I Don’t Just Wine

I am going to make a Throwback Thursday Post and work on having more Mohawk Valley Valley Adventures tomorrow. Any objections? I thought not.

I wish I was there!

From January 2017, I found this picture of Prospect Falls Winery in Prospect, NY. I love that place! I see by their Facebook page they are open. Not this minute, but tomorrow. There’s an adventure I could get into.

Beer is good, too!

Here is a picture of my husband Steven and me at Woodland Farm Brewery in Utica, NY. That is another site I’d like to visit again.

I think we look nice.

These hot flappers are my friend Kim and I at a Prohibition Party at Gerber 1933 Tavern in Utica. They are temporarily closed, according to their Facebook page. Oh, I hope they re-open soon! I will be there, whether or not I can dress in 1920’s clothes.

And there’s always booze.

I was looking for another picture of 1920’s clothes, but I found this one of the proprietors of DikinDurt Distillery in Herkimer, NY. I believe they are still open at their Smith Road location, as well as being available at some local liquor stores and bars. It is some very fine stuff.

I guess this has been a fairly alcohol-soaked Throwback Thursday Post. But I never drink and drive. In future posts I’ll look to share some sober adventures as well.

In the meantime, I am over 200 words. Happy Thursday, everyone!

A Dramatic Post for Throwback Thursday

How about a Theatre Throwback Thursday Post? For one reason, I miss theatre! Of course, I would probably feel too tired to go to rehearsal these days. And who knows how good my brain would be about learning lines. Then there are the myriad problems inherent in putting together a show…

I DON’T CARE!!!

I want to be on stage again. And I want to go to rehearsal with fun people and build characters, establish relationships and backstory, come up with great bits… The whole process, problems and all. I hope to have it back one day.

In the meantime, I will share a few theatre memories and call it a blog post.

Back to LiFT with Rubbed Out at Ruby’s, an interactive murder mystery written by me and beautifully brought to life by a great group of actors.

I could go on and on, but I see I have met my self-imposed goal of 200 words. I know I have shared these memories before. No doubt I will share them again. I hope before too long I have a chance to make some new ones.

Throwback Local

I started to write a blog post while at work (while on break, I need hardly add), but I am going to make a Throwback Thursday Post instead. Is that too much past after a Way Back Wednesday? I don’t care.

This time I will scroll through my Media Library. I do not promise to throw back very far. In fact, as usual, I make no promises at all. I am going to look for pictures beginning with p, for past, or maybe n p, for no promises.

Mmmmm… coffee.

Here is a p that is also a plug for a local business, Joseph Putrello Coffee Barista Bar on Genesee Street in Utica, NY. This is also an example of not throwing back very far, because they opened fairly recently.

I could go for some local music about now!

Here is a great p: local musician Philip Arcuri. He is performing at Fratello’s Pizzeria in Frankfort, NY, just to plug another local business (and p for pizzeria!).

A great band to dance to!

More local music for my last p: one of my all-time favorite bands, The Posers. We have had some wonderful times dancing to their tunes and hope to do so again one day soon.

I see I am over 200 words. I shall hit Publish and daydream about local coffee and music. Happy Thursday, everyone.

Spunky, Movie, Murder, Melfe’s

I think I can manage a Throwback Thursday Post. I apologize that I have not been living up to my claim of being “totally fun” lately (my logo still says that, doesn’t it?). I comfort myself that many find unrelenting cheerfulness annoying. Thus I look on the bright side of being unable to look on the bright side. Be that as it may, let us get on with the post.

Look at that adorable overbite!

Looking back to January of 2017, I found Spunky, a dog we had for a sadly short time. That basket was not meant to be a dog bed, but Spunkman went over and climbed right in. I would love to adopt a dog in 2021.

Who says you just can’t get a head?

In January 2018, I did not share any personal pictures. I picked a silly still from one of my favorite cheesy horror flicks.

Great read.

From January 2019 I choose a picture of local historical interest. I love local history. I love murder, too.

Alas, no steel-toed work boots for me.

My photo from January 2020 represents a shout-out to a local business and a sad note for me. Every January for the past nine years, I have gone to Melfe’s Shoes in Ilion, NY, for new work shoes. Alas, I no longer work at a factory. Melfe’s carries other shoes as well. Last spring I got some great sneakers there. I shall have to stop in and see if they have anything suited to my current position. That would make a good blog post.

This brings me to January 2021 and over 250 words. Yay me. I hope to see you all tomorrow for Lame Post Friday.

Christmas Past Post

As the Grinch famously said, “Tomorrow is Christmas. It’s practically here!”

Since it is also Thursday, I chime in with a Throwback Thursday picture. This jolly old elf made his first appearance on our mantle in 2016. We acquired him from the Herkimer County Historical Society. It is, in fact, only half a Santa. He had blown into their yard during a windstorm. They posted him on Facebook, but nobody claimed him. I am certain I have told this story before, but as I often say, reduce, reuse, recycle.

This picture is from December 2017, a close-up of a busier area of decoration. I have mentioned that we were more elaborate in previous years. Perhaps we will be more so in the future. I started to put “No doubt,” but in fact I have my doubts. However, my purpose now is not to dwell on doubt but to enjoy Christmas Eve with a Throwback Thursday Post.

I skip ahead to December 2019. I think all of these decorations were acquired prior to that year. A few of them are still out. It is my way of making Christmas last all year. Oh, don’t start on how making Christmas last all year is about giving and goodwill etc (you know who you are). I KNOW THAT!!! I hate those holier than thou sorts.

I close with another shot from 2018. This Santa is in front of our fireplace this year. He is a Throwback piece himself; my mother found him for us in an antique shop in Pennsylvania while she was visiting my sister.

Who Me? Be Silly?

Even a Yeti needs to put her feet up sometimes.

I do not know why this stupid Block Editor will not center my caption. It is very annoying, and detrimental to my self esteem to reflect that I cannot figure these things out. Additionally, I am REALLY ready to return to ten fingered typing.

And now I am.  I moved to my seldom-used laptop, carefully poised on my dining room table.  It must, it must continue to work while I am on unemployment, because my login and password are saved to the site where I put in for my weekly benefits.  Of course there are workarounds if I lose them or the laptop dies, but I am so unmotivated to follow them.  Enough of my computer woes.  I was about to make a Throwback Thursday Post, hence, a picture from December 2016.  The leggings are still intact, but I have completely worn out the awesome slippers.

It is a tradition for Steven to get me slippers for Christmas.  I always need them, and he picks such good ones.  It is hardly a throwback to show the ones he got me last year.

Recently seen in this space; recently heard in my house.

Incidentally, once on the laptop I switched to Classic Editor, and fixed the first illustration and caption.  Now my opening paragraph does not make any sense, but I will let it stand.  It will make a kind of a Non-Sequitur Thursday out of it.  In fact, today is kind of a non-sequitur for me, because I was thinking, “Ooh, a Throwback Thursday would be nice, but maybe I can have a Way Back Wednesday.”  Then I said, “Idiot, it IS Thursday!”  I should stop calling myself an idiot.  It is not very nice of me.

You see, it isn’t nice to call people idiots.

Now we’re really mixing things up:  Friday?  Tuesday?  I don’t know what day it is!  And this post is getting sillier and sillier.  But why not?  There are worse things to be.

Speaking of silly…

Here is one more Throwback picture, the Reindeer Run 5K in Little Falls, NY, from December 2017.  I am the silly one in the middle.  The Moose made a reappearance at the Turkey Trot 5K recently.  I fear there will be no Reindeer Run this year.  Perhaps I could do my own personal run.  I have a reindeer poncho, and I can use Map My Run on my phone to make sure I go for 5K.  I’ll be sure to make a blog post about it, with selfies.

In the meantime, I see I am over 400 words.  That is a lot for a foolish post.  No matter.  I shall hit Publish and look forward to Lame Post Friday.  As always, I hope you’ll stay tuned.

Beer, Murder, Vote!

So I’m sitting here, idly scrolling down Facebook and half-listening to 20/20 on OWN, and I suddenly think, “Crap! I have to make my blog post!”  In my defense, I have had a lot on my mind today.  Oh, well, we all have our problems. I will sort mine out sooner or later, one way or another.   In the meantime, I think a Throwback Thursday Post will be nice.

This is my husband, Steven, at the Ommengang Brewery in Cooperstown, NY.   We were having some lovely adventures that day.  God willing, we will have more.

Not quite the usual suspects.

I have shared this memory before: A G.R.A.V.E. Murder, one of the interactive murder mysteries we put on to benefit the Herkimer County Historical Society.  I am supposed to be writing a virtual one, for these COVID times, but so far I am not meeting with success.

This is from November 2018.  We always feel proud of ourselves for voting. This year Steven voted via absentee ballot, which I obtained and delivered for him, while I voted early (perhaps you read my blog post about it).

I think that makes a nice variety of memories.  Maybe I can go about making some new ones tomorrow.  As always, I hope you’ll stay tuned.

Is this Post Classic? Or Just Horror?

As I was looking through my Media Library for something for a Throwback Thursday Post, I came across this gem. I have been watching a lot of Halloween movies lately. Of course, I love Halloween movies all year long. The above picture, in case you didn’t know (and I feel so badly for you if you do not!), shows Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing, and Vincent Price .

Gotta get me an outfit like that.

This is a shot from Mark of the Vampire, which I watched last night. It features Lionel Barrymore, another favorite of mine and not just for horror movies.

Anybody could lose their head sometime.

I add in Peter Lorre and Vincent Price. I am following the theme of horror classics, but I seem to be a little disjointed about it. Am I disjointed enough for this to be a Non-Sequitur Thursday Post? You decide.

I can’t choose!

I need to get back to the movie watching portion of my evening. As you may have guessed, I prefer the classic flicks. Perhaps I can write more about specific movies. In the meantime, Happy Thursday, and Happy Halloween Movie Viewing!

Revisiting Area Skeletons

How embarrassing. I just realized I never gave a title to yesterday’s post. I could add one now, if I could think of one (not a sure thing). Only some bloggers already Liked it. Maybe they would not like it as well with a title. These are the things I worry about.

Be that as it may, I need to make today’s blog post. I thought I would try for another Throwback Thursday. This is Thursday, isn’t it? I am in a dreadful time warp these days. But what better state than a time warp to visit the past? If I find one, I’ll let you know.

Murder to Leading to Silly… I Love Theatre!

What’s in the box?

For this week’s Throwback Thursday Post,  I looked in my Media Library at September 2019.  I was gearing up for Fabulous and Fatal,  the interactive murder mystery we presented to benefit the Herkimer County Historical Society last October.  The box shown was an important prop in the story.

It was given to me by the cast of Leading Ladies, the play I directed for Ilion Little Theatre in 2016.

One of my all-time favorite casts.

Drawing your attention to the costume worn by the “lady” on your far right, I just mention that it is a costume piece I have owned many years and used many times.

Definitely more silly than scary.

I wore the caftan to be a silly wizard for an event for the March of Dimes in May 2018.

I was probably the silliest.

Once again, I was associated with some wonderful people.  This is the thing when you go to do anything theatrical:  theatre people are awesome!

I wore the caftan again that year for the Doodah Parade for Ilion Days.  I rode on the float for Ilion Little Theatre.

More fun theatre people!

As the song says, there’s no people like show people!  I hope soon I will be able to make more theatre memories,  if for no other reason than that I will need something to throw back to in 2021!
