Pre-Haunting Post

I’ve posted before rehearsals and performances.  I guess tonight’s event is in the nature of a performance for me, but to be seasonal, I chose the above title for this week’s Scattered Saturday post.  I must soon begin fixing my unruly hair for the Haunted Historic Four Corners Tour.  I will get home late and will no doubt be tired.  I will be happy I already did my blog post.

I got up just prior to six, and it was still dark out when I went for a run.  I was happy to wear the reflective vest (“road guard vest” is what we army folk call it) my sister Cheryl gave me some time ago. It had been raining and was just beginning to sprinkle again as I walked my cool-down.  Full disclosure:  I meant to do a Saturday Running Commentary post but got distracted with, well, Saturday.

I don’t know if I mentioned that Steven is feeling poorly, but of course I won’t say much, because, you know, HIPAA.  But I had to pick up a prescription for him so headed to the Medicine Shoppe in Ilion.   After getting that, I stopped in to the handily located Ilion Wine and Spirits.  Barefoot Pinot Noir, yes, please.  I felt fortunate to be able to take a left out of that parking lot and headed a short way down the road to Moose River Coffee and Beer Belly Bob’s.

I went into the coffee shop first and got a 12 oz cup of the smoothest coffee ever and a raspberry-filled cookie.  While I nibble and sipped, I worked on my latest attempt at finishing a novel.  I am still at the note-writing stage.  I know who’s going to die and how, but not sure who the killer is.  Perhaps a character I have yet to invent.  But already I’ve said too much.  It is a mistake to talk to much about stories while you are writing them; you can talk yourself out of writing them.

After savoring the last drop of coffee, I went into Beer Belly Bob’s for some beer.  I told them I was disappointed about yesterday’s tasting being postponed.  They were sorry about it as well.  I got some stuff I know I like the taste of.  In fact, I am enjoying a can now (don’t judge me).

The only other thing of note I have done thus far is accompany my friend, Kim, to Ilion Little Theatre, where we borrowed accessories for our costumes tonight.  We are impersonating a couple of murderesses from the 1800’s.  She is a new one (to us), whose name escapes me, while I am reprising my iconic role of Roxy.  I hope to talk more about the haunted tour tomorrow.  As always, I hope you’ll stay tuned.

A Brain With No Beer?

I really wanted to make today’s blog post about beer.  Beer Belly Bob’s was having a tasting, and I need to get more beer anyways.  I always feel more secure when I have beer in the fridge, even now that I rarely drink it.  Unfortunately, the scheduled tasting was cancelled.  I’ll have to get over there and purchase some beer for the fridge, but I just didn’t have enough oomph to leave the house again tonight.

Do I have enough oomph to make a blog post? The answer has to be yes, of course.  It helps that today is Lame Post Friday.

Only I don’t have a blu-ray.

Yes, we are watching The Brain That Wouldn’t Die (1962), which I believe I referenced in a blog post earlier this week.  It is one of my favorite cheesy movies.  I need more cheesy movie watching in my life.

That reminds me of a few guys I used to date.

I just thought I’d throw in a picture of the monster from that movie, perhaps to distract from the fact that this is a particularly lame Friday post.

I was just looking all through the pictures on Beer Belly Bob’s Facebook page, but I did not see any that would particularly enhance today’s post.  What to do?  Admit I am lame and move on?  Or search obsessively for a photo that fits?  Or just throw in a picture I like, hit publish and get back to enjoying my Friday?  I think you know what I am going to pick.

“What are you bothering me for?”

You just knew I was going to pick Nosferatu, didn’t you? Happy Friday, everyone.

Scattered Saturday is Back!

Today I went Mohawk Valley adventuring with my friend, Kim, and I will attempt to give a brief overview of our gyrations.  I may try to write more blog posts, detailing individual stops, but for now I must just type off the top of my head and try to hit Publish soon.  I have more Saturday I’d like to enjoy.

She picked me up at one and we went to a wine tasting at Valley Wine and Spirits. I may have mentioned yesterday that Swedish Hill Winery was going to be there, and they have sweet wines, which Kim likes.  As it turned out, they also have dry wines, so everybody was happy.  We couldn’t think of any other place to go in Herkimer at the time, so we headed to Ilion, NY.

Our first stop was Beer Belly Bob’s.  Kim wanted to purchase some Ubu for a friend.  I found out after she got it that Ubu is from Lake Placid,NY, so I heartily approved that purchase.  I wanted to go further afield and buy some Corona but decided to delay that purchase.  From there we went next door to Moose River Coffee, because I thought a cup of their especially smooth brew would revive me.

Our next stop was Cornerstone Consignments, where Kim found an adorable purse and two pair of earrings.  Then I suggested we go to New 2 You Consignment Shop, where Kim bought several sweaters.  That woman is always cold.  We hit Young’s General Store and Ace Hardware on our way out of town. They were having a luau, which they have had before but I missed.

As I type this, I am inclined to type more about each stop.  However, I feel these places would be better served by individual blog posts.  I hope I can follow through on such a thing.  In the meantime, I’m going to call this an acceptable Scattered Saturday post.  I hope you were somewhat entertained.

Wrist to Forehead, Then to Bed

Did that sound like a little mini-poem or just like I was whining?  Maybe a whiny little poem?  Well, I will try not to make this a whiny blog post, and I probably will not go STRAIGHT to bed after I hit Publish.  Just saying.

“But I LOOOOVE you!”

This picture is from Mad Love starring Peter Lorre, Frances Drake, and Colin Clive.  That’s Lorre and Drake in the picture.  Colin Clive played Dr. Frankenstein in the James Whale directed Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein.   I have seen Mad Love a few times now, and I notice new things each time.  One reason for that is I am continually distracted by something or other each time I watch it.  Last night it was conversation with my husband.  Don’t tell Peter Lorre, because in Mad Love, he got really angry with Frances Drake for favoring her husband over him.  I’m no Frances Drake, so I could probably get away with it, but there is no point in taking a chance.

Yes, it seems I am resorting to my new thing of putting up pictures and rambling on.  Then again, I often do talk about movies on Wrist to Forehead Sunday, so let’s just go with it.  I did not watch any movies today, because I was invited to my sister Cheryl’s house for swimming and a cook-out.  Fun!  I love getting together with family!  I made a macaroni salad to contribute to the feast, so I guess I could have done a cooking post.  I missed a bet there!

Oh, and I went to Beer Belly Bob’s in Ilion and got some Yuengling to bring, so I can also give a shout-out to a local business.  That’s Route 51 Beer Belly Bob’s Discount Beverage  Center, 70 Otsego St., Ilion, NY, phone number 315-895-0936.  It’s a great place to purchase beer and other beverages.  The also have tastings sometimes.  As I was paying for today’s purchase, I noticed they are having one Thursday, Aug. 31.  I may have to go and write a blog post about it (preview of coming attractions).

Now it seems that I am having more of a Scattered Sunday post.  Non-Sequitur Sunday?  I say no matter.  I am over 350 words.  I call that more than respectable.   If I could find another picture to end the post with, I would feel content.

No, that is not my thigh. I got cans of Yuengling today.

I stole this picture from the D.G. Yuengling & Son, Inc. Facebook page.  I figured they wouldn’t mind, because it is advertising.  It is very good beer, if you like beer, which I do. Happy Sunday, everyone.
