The Blog that Needed a Brain

Note to self: go back to writing blog posts on breaks at work.  Once again I am tired and brain dead.

Maybe I could borrow some of his.

I haven’t used The Brain from Planet Arous in a while.  Cue unkind remarks about how I haven’t used my own brain in even longer (you know who you are).

This is how I may look by tomorrow.

I feel I may turn into a zombie.  I will be an old-school, slow-moving zombie, not one of those new-fangled sorts that run right along (full disclosure: I have never seen any movie or tv show with that sort of zombie, but I’ve heard).

Great side-eye.

Since I feel so brain-dead, I am a little envious of The Brain that Wouldn’t Die.  We were thinking of watching that flick yesterday but went another way.  Maybe this weekend.

“A Monstrous Monday post without me? SAY IT AIN’T SO!”

As Nosferatu just observed, this is a Monstrous Monday post. I had not said so, but I am sure my clever readers already figured that out.  It seems to be taking me a long time to get to 200 words, and I am having difficulty in selecting monsters from my Media Library.

Ooh, look, I am at 200 words, without doing much besides whine about how tired and brain dead I feel.  I hope the monsters helped pep things up.  Happy Monday, all.

Making Do on Wrist to Forehead Sunday

It is Wrist to Forehead Sunday,  and one reason for that is that I am posting on my Tablet.  Not only am I sitting here typing one letter at a time with the stylus, I am limited to pictures I have in my Media Library or ones I have taken with the Tablet.  I have had a Cinema Sunday but I do not have sufficient pictures for a blog post of same.

This is what we mean by Wrist to Forehead.

It’s funny how I can have a perfectly enjoyable day yet have nothing to write a blog post about.  I mean, who wants to hear about my doing laundry and grocery shopping?   Oh, well, I guess sometimes I can think is something to say about mundane chores.

I know how he feels.

I often say there are worse things than being bored.  However, I am talking about my job, not my blog.  I do not see any problem with being bored while I am doing my job, as long as I am doing it right.  But it would be very bad of me to bore my blog readers.  That is not the point is writing a blog, I assure you.

“You boring? Say it ain’t so! “

Oh, look I do have an appropriate picture, because right now we are watching The Wolf Man on a DVR’d Svengoolie.  I loves me some Svengoolie.

He looks mean.

And for good measure, here is Bela Lugosi as Bela the Fortune-teller in The Wolf Man.  Who coukd be uncheered by Bela Lugosi?

Ah Truman, You Were Right

I tried, I really tried to make my Saturday blog post on Saturday.  I wrote this much:

It is way past the time I usually make a blog post, and past my usual bedtime as well.  I went to a fundraiser for Team Rebecca of America’s Greatest Heart Run and Walk. We danced our butts off to our favorite local band, The Posers.  Now I am tired.

I wish I had some pictures to share, but I did not bring my Tablet.  I knew I would want to dance a lot and did not want to worry about leaving a device unattended.

Oh dear, I don’t know that I can make a full blog post now.  I am SO ready for bed.  Additionally,  I did not do much of anything else today so cannot make a Scattered Saturday post.  What the hell, me?

And that was as far as I got. As Truman Capote once said, that’s not writing, that’s typing.  Anyways, I realized it was after midnight so I would be making Saturday’s post on Sunday anyways, so there you have it. I am out of bed much later than usual, even for a Sunday, and I have a full day of chores ahead of me.  Will I do them all?  Will I do any of them?  A little suspense adds adds interest to my day.

In the meantime,  I am going to call this a Slacker Saturday post and drive on.  I shall drink some more coffee, and I hope you are all having a delightful weekend.

Lame Me Entertain You

I never ask myself to do much on Lame Post Friday.  Right now I am sipping wine and watching movies with my husband, Steven.  We started with The Bad Seed and moved on to House on Haunted Hill.

Check out the crazy eyes!

Steven always remarks on how right away you can buy the little girl as a killer, although the other characters never seem to catch on.  Both of us would like to see a version where Rhoda really seems to be the sweet, wonderful child people seem to think her.  At least the above Rhoda is not as creepy as the girl in the Rob Lowe remake.

I had such high hopes for it.

In the first scene, the little girl looks out the window and notices a dead cat.  She says it in such a creepy, undead, movie psycho voice, I immediately retired all hopes of a classy suspense feature.  Still, I watched it till the end, I’ll give it that.  I will not voluntarily watch it again, but I sat through it once.

We moved on to House on Haunted Hill, an all-time favorite of ours.  I shared a picture from it yesterday.  However, I have other pictures I can use.

This was my cover photo for a while.

The actress on the left is a really good screamer.  I think the one on the right wore roller skates and was pulled along by stage hands.

I love a good director!

This, of course, is William Castle, coaching one of his actresses, or perhaps posing for a publicity still.  We LOVE William Castle. Some call his movies cheesy, and perhaps some of them are (although that is a selling point for me! ), but Castle loved what he did and had a sincere desire to entertain people.

I have that in common with Mr. Castle.  I hope I have entertained my readers.  Happy Friday, everyone!

Romance with Victor and Harvey

How about a nice Throwback Thursday post.  I use a period instead of a question mark, because I am going to attempt it anyways.

Yikes! I think I have improved with age.

I am not sure when this picture of Steven and me was taken, but it was probably around 1990.

I’m afraid this one is a little blurry.

Here is a more recent pic, taken at the Copper Moose Ale House in Little Falls,  NY, sometime in 2019, I think.  I guess that is not throwing things back very far, but it continues the Steve and Cindy theme.

This is not me and Steve.

This is still a throwback, because it is an old movie, but I might be veering into Non-Sequitur Thursday territory, going from personal to movie pictures.  Then again, this is another romantic couple, Judith Anderson and Vincent Price in Laura, one of Steven’s and my favorite movies.

“Shall we dance?”

Here is a not so happy couple from House on Haunted Hill,  another favorite.

I may as well admit that I have given up hope of making a coherent blog post and am just sharing pictures and hoping to get to 200 words.  I am also hoping that my readers will be at least mildly entertained.

He means business, but I am not having his nonsense.

Back to Steven and me for one last throwback photo.  This is us in Harvey at Ilion Little Theatre in 2012.

Now I am over 200 words.  Throwback or Non-Sequitur,  I hope you are all having a lovely Thursday.

But Is This a Tiresome Post?

I am over halfway through the week and pretty damn happy about it.  But what to write about for my Wuss-out Wednesday post?  I have many things on my plate these days: two or three murder mysteries, summer Shakespeare, St. Baldrick’s Day, the Boilermaker 15K,  AND cleaning my dirty house, making daily blog posts, writing that novel…

Amidst all this, I am still battling my health or lack thereof.  I am becoming more familiar with Genesee Street in Utica from driving to specialists for diagnostic tests.  More I must not say, because, you know, HIPAA.  Also, as I often point out, it can be tiresome to hear people go on about their health and other problems.

You know, I say that, and I fear I do get tiresome sometimes, but there are other times when somebody tells me about their life, and I am quite interested.  Sometimes I learn something about diagnosis and treatment, or get some insight into family dynamics.  In short, I like to hear stories about people.  That is one reason I listen to gossip (judge me if you are so inclined).

Ah, now I have made this a Mid-Week Middle-aged Musings post.  I haven’t had one of those in a while.  Perhaps tomorrow I can give an update on one of my above-mentioned projects.  If I make any progress.  A little suspense adds interest to my week.

I Almost Forgot, I’m Gonna Be Bald!

Long time readers may remember that I have previously participated in St. Baldrick’s Day events.  That is, I got my head shaved to help raise funds for cancer research.  Thanks to the generosity of my family, friends and co-workers,  I raised enough money to not feel foolish in front of the other bald people.  Oh, I know, every little bit helps, and as long as I bring something, I have nothing to be ashamed of.  I still don’t want to look like I’m just cadging a cheap haircut.

Look how cute I’m going to look! Or do I flatter myself?

This is a picture of me after the last time I got my head shaved,  in 2016.  I think it looks better once it starts to grow back some, but bald is just so striking.

The problem I have is that I hate asking people to donate.  There are just so many people raising money for so many causes, most of them very worthy (I can’t bring myself to say they are ALL worthy, but I will not go so far as to name any I found less than worthy) (I’m sure it wasn’t yours) (oh dear,  I can get myself into trouble this way).

That was as far as I got last night, before my fatigue overtook me and I cravenly went to bed.  Now it is Wednesday morning, and I shall finish my Tuesday post with a link to my St. Baldrick’s Day Fundraising page.  You might like to take a look, if only to see the silly “before” picture I used.  If you would like to make a small donation to cancer research, I shall be extremely grateful.

Misunderstood on Monstrous Monday

I felt better enough to get through the day at work today, but I do not feel better enough to do more than a Monstrous Monday post.  How disgustingly whiny of me.  Quick, bring on the monsters!

That’s it! I should have a beer!

It wasn’t really all that bad of a day.  Last week was much harder to get through.  So I’ve got that going for me. And it’s only Monday.  I have four more days for things to improve.  How’s that for a good spin on it’s being Monday?

“What do you mean I have to go to work again tomorrow?”

I think Nosferatu looks surprised.  And scary.  Regular readers know he’s my favorite.

“This is a good monster!”

Actually, I think in the movie Gene Wilder calls Peter Boyle a “good boy.”  Like Frankenstein’s monster, I am misunderstood.  One might think this blog would explain me, but that is not likely to happen.  Never mind that now. We are not talking about me today; we are looking at monster pictures.

Most of us don’t, Monster.

I happened across this quintessential Monstrous Monday picture.  Yes, I have used it many times.  What can I say?  Some things bear repeating.

Wrist to Forehead Sick Day

I am sorry if it is tiresome to hear a grown blogger continue to moan and groan about a sinus condition.  Here I am, moaning and groaning away.  And just barely trying to make a blog post.  This will never do.  Maybe I can pep up the post and myself with a few pictures.

“Oh woe is me!”

Here is our skeleton Bonita, in a true wrist to forehead pose.  I don’t know what a skeleton has to get so dramatic about, but then, she may have all sorts of worries to which I am not privy.  I try to give my toys their privacy.

“Oh shame! Oh degradation!”

And here I am, with my wrist to my forehead in a wonderfully dramatic moment from Dirty Work at the Crossroads, an 1890’s melodrama my talented husband Steven directed at Ilion Little Theatre.  Goodness, was it almost seven years ago?  How the time flies.

Threaten me with an axe, will ya?

I was looking for Joan Crawford with an axe, because I have a splitting headache, but I came across this axe pic first (see what I did there?  axe pic, like pick axe?  well, I thought it was funny). This is me and a few others in Roxy, a play about a local historical murder.  For those of you who don’t know, that is my husband (in the play, obviously it’s not Steven) threatening me with the axe, but he is the one that ends up getting chopped.  Good memories.

I will be happy when this sinus infection is just a distant memory.  In the meantime,  I’ll try to make a better blog post tomorrow.

Shakespeare to Svengoolie to Julie

The Blogger’s Sick Days continue, but there is light at the end of the tunnel, although there is always the possibility that it is an oncoming train.  Be that as it may, I am sitting on my couch, watching a DVR’d episode of Svengoolie and hoping to make some semblance of a blog post.

Svengoolie is showing Creature of the Black Lagoon.

I have been feeling marginally better.  Whereas on Friday, my head was in pain, today it was more lightheaded.  Comforting myself with the fact that having been on antibiotics for at least 24 hours I was not contagious (although I believe sinus infections are not contagious to begin with),  I went to the second session of Brainstorming the Bard at Meeples Mug House in Little Falls.

We made a little more progress in our quest to bring Shakespeare back to Little Falls this summer.  I shall blog more about that later (ooh, here’s a Freudian typo: I first typed “bore” instead of “more”).

In the meantime,  how about a couple more pictures of the Creature?  I just love a good monster movie.

“You look a little different from your match.com picture.”

Julie Adams certainly was a lovely young lady.  She was so gracious to fans of this movie all her life.  I was very sad to hear when she passed away fairly recently.

And here she is in later years, still lovely and gracious.

I’m afraid this is not a particularly Scattered Saturday post.  Then again, my health, Shakespeare,  Svengoolie,  Julie Adams.  It will have to do.  Happy Saturday,  everyone!
