More Weekend Walking

Here is Day Two of Pictures Taken On My Walk.  I took another walk this morning but did not take any further pictures.  So under the heading Waste Not Want Not, I share a few more taken yesterday.

Is it the first or the last?

The lone Black-eyed Susan appealed to me.  I saw some other patches with more blooms, so I don’t know if this one is just getting started or just ending.  My own Black-eyed Susans have not done much this year, but my whole yard is kind of a lost cause.  Let us not dwell on such depressing topics.

Pretty!

I am try to be circumspect when taking pictures of other people’s yards.  You know, not include identifying things such as numbers or names. Therefore, I was happy to get this shot of just flowers.  Of course, Google Maps shows no such compunction, but I am no Google (cue jokes about my googly eyes).  But I love these colorful blooms.

On the uncultivated side, we have these.  I first tried to get a shot of a lone Morning Glory but could not get a good angle so went for the profusion of… whatever these are.

I do enjoy my weekend walks, when the sun is up and I can admire flowers.  Additionally, sometimes people are walking their dogs.  I like to pet a dog.  Tomorrow I am back to walking in the dark.  However, I still have a few more unused pictures from Saturday.  As always, I hope you’ll tune in.

Wayback Walk after Wuss-Out?

So yesterday was a true Wuss-out Wednesday as I neglected to post at all. In my defense, shut up, explanations are tiresome. I am sitting at the dining-room-tabletop prior to five Thursday morning, and my main feeling is gratitude for coffee. I went for a half-hour walk so am torn between making a Pedestrian Post and a Way-back Wednesday Post. Since I would like to retain the option of making a Throwback Thursday Post later, I shall attempt the former.

I do love flowers.

Full disclosure: I still have not upgraded my WordPress account so cannot add new pictures. Here is one from a walk I took in July 2017, making this a Way-Back Wednesday as well as a Pedestrian Post. This is the extent of my ability to multi-task (unless cleaning my oven while I sleep is still a thing) (older readers get that). Fuller disclosure: I did not see this on this morning’s walk, although I did walk by this building. For one reason, it was still dark. However, if I had troubled to look, I could probably report on whether the purple flowers are there once again. I did not. Judge me if you are so inclined.

Here is a funny from a walk in July 2018. It was actually a cool-down walk after a run, just to make me feel a little sad to remember I have not been running since May. I found it on the sidewalk and took it home, taking this picture, because it amused me so much. I told my husband Steve it was probably for him, and his girlfriend had left it there for me to deliver.

I see I have not yet said anything about today’s walk. Oh well, it wasn’t such a much anyways, and I am almost at 300 words (that sentence put it over). I feel oddly pleased with this post, but perhaps I flatter myself. No matter. It’s time to get myself a little more coffee.

Tired Tuesday During Dateline

But at least I got through Tuesday.

Once again, the little devil on one shoulder whispered the I did not have to make a blog post and indeed would be happier if I did not. I happen to know that little devil is a big fat liar (although sometimes her arguments are convincing). So I thought I would just see what I could come up with, during commercials of a live television (as opposed to DVR’d) episode of Dateline we are watching.

It jumped up.

I thought another picture would be nice and found this Johnny Jump-up from April 2021. I have not seen evidence of any coming up so far this year, although we do have a number of crocuses. I hope to plant more flowers as we get further into spring.

This is becoming a rather disjointed post (Non-Sequitur Tuesday?). That is because I have only been typing (one letter at a time with the stylus) during commercials. It is an absorbing episode, although I am finding it interesting for other reasons than the murder. Oh, I am interested in the murder, you know me and murder! But I am intrigued by the characters of the people involved, by what they are saying, and by how I am getting quite a different impression from the one they seem to think they are making.

For example, and this has happened in more than one case, the friends of the murdered woman are all saying how wonderful she was, so sweet, everybody loved her. Then we hear some of the stuff she did, and I think, that wasn’t very nice! Oh, I know: nobody is all one thing or the other. A wonderful person can do not nice things.

I’m afraid I am too tired to chase down the thought and express it properly. Oh yeah, that’s right: Tired Tuesday. I hope I don’t Wuss out on Wednesday.

Thank You, Media Library

I shall try for another Throwback Thursday Post, hoping for some cooperation from my Media Library.

A note of hope!

Here is a cheerful picture: a crocus in my yard in 2018. I had a few crocuses in my backyard, before the Monday/Tuesday nor’easter hit. Tuesday afternoon, after I took my walk, I spied a lone purple crocus in my front yard, defying the snow. I took a picture with my phone, which, alas, I am unable to share at the current time.

This is the tree which dropped a major portion of itself on the power line, causing the outage which enlivened (or made hideous) our Tuesday/Wednesday. Thanks a lot, tree! I always liked you!

These will cheer me up!

I usually content myself with three pictures, but I wanted to end with flowers. The daisies will not arrive for a while yet, but I hope they grow in a similar profusion when they do.

I guess some would say 2018 is not throwing back very far. Then again, sometimes last week seems a very long time ago and second grade feels like yesterday. What’s that all about? A question, perhaps, for Lame Post Friday. As always, I hope you’ll stay tuned.

Weather or Not…

How about a nice Throwback Thursday Post. I put a period instead of a question mark, because I am going to make the post in any case.

Yikes!

This is a picture from March 2017. It makes me a little sad, because according to forecasts, I may be able to take a similar picture on Saturday. And I don’t want to! I want spring! Oh well, there is no point in whining; we must deal with the weather that comes.

Better rain than snow? Maybe, maybe not.

Here is July 2017, after a rathe boisterous rain storm. I don’t think the picture captures it very well, but I believe there was mud everywhere. I include it to show a different season of troublesome weather.

And then there are flowers.

This is what I want! This is my front yard in May 2017. Our first spring in this house, 2006, we had one lone yellow tulip. Without putting in more bulbs, we have yet been blessed with more tulips. One of these years I will up my bulb game, and then we’ll see some blooms!

I hope to start having Mohawk Valley Adventures again soon and write blog posts about them. However, if we receive a similar amount of snow to the above picture, it might not happen this weekend. I suppose the suspense adds interest to the end of my week.

Will I Plant Flowers?

Time for a quick Throwback Thursday Post, if my Tablet will cooperate. It is beginning to move as slowly as my brain sometimes does. Yikes!

Pretty!

Here is a picture from June 2020 and my last container garden. I could not get it together in 2021 (why does that goddam autocorrect always lop off the 2? It even did it just now when I was going to finish that question with “at the beginning of numbers”). It brings to mind one of my favorite New Year’s cartoons, which features this dialogue :

First guy: What do you think the new year will bring?

Seccond guy: Flowers.

First guy: Why do you think that?

Second guy: Because I am planting flowers.

I still wear the same leggings, socks, and sneakers.

This is another shot from 2020 (again witth the disappearing 2!) (Twice!). Perhaps it would have been better to continue with the flower theme, but the image of leisure rather appealed to me. I may not have much lounging time in the foreseeable future. However, in a few months I hope to find time to plant a few flowers.

Wrist to Flowers

Yesterday’s 10K really took it out of me. Could I be getting old? SAY IT AIN’T SO!!! More likely I do not lead a healthy enough lifestyle. Be that as it may, I am feeling too drained for anything but a quiet Wrist to Forehead Sunday Post. Luckily, I have a few pictures of my backyard to brighten things up.

Going out my back door yesterday, I saw our Brown-eyed Susans were going great guns.

As usual, flowers cheer me up. I still feel tired but not nearly so ready to swoon (you know, dramatically posed with the back of one wrist against my forehead). The coming week looms ahead of me, a threat or an opportunity? Time will tell. Time is certainly a blabbermouth.

In the meantime, I am almost up to 200 words. With six pictures, I call that a respectable blog post. Thank you for tuning in.

Hate the Heat, Love the Flowers

And yet I am not becoming noticeably smaller.

I am not a fan of summer. Sun worshippers can feel free to hate on me but all I can do is shake my sweaty head, very slowly. Oh, just listen to me whine! I am starting to hate on me myself!

Please ignore the weeds.

One good thing about summer is flowers. We started out ten years ago with one humble Black-eyed Susan, purchased at a sale to benefit Herkimer County Humane Society. Just look at them now!

The Brown-eyed Susan’s just magically grew. They have expanded as well. I just can’t bear to cut them back.

Our Rose of Sharon is not as bloom-filled, much to our disappointment.

I see one flower!

Other Roses of Sharon (Rose of Sharons?) In the neighborhood are more colorful. If it becomes cool enough for a comfortable walk, I will try to get a few pictures for a future post.

In the meantime, I have managed to make a post of, well, not quite 200 words (I keep clicking on the counter up top to check). And it was not too painful (at least for me to write; obviously I cannot speak for any possible readers). Ah, there is 200. Keep cool, everyone!

Running to be Ready

It was a little faster than a Tuesday Trudge but not fast enough for a Tuesday Trot, but this is my Running Commentary Post. I often say that what I do is called running only by the most generous definition of the term.

I was quite determined to run today, despite the heat and humidity, because I am gearing up for the Pride Stride 5K in Little Falls this Saturday, June 12. It is part of the Little Falls Pride event hosted by Little Falls Community Outreach. I do not expect to run very fast, but I expect to have fun. And it is a cause I like to support.

Knowing I will not run very fast led the devil on one shoulder to say things like, “It doesn’t really matter if you run or not. Why torture yourself in this heat? It probably won’t even help.” I ignored such ignoble thoughts.

The humidity was pretty horrible. It was like trying to run through bath water. Or maybe dirty dish water. Breathing was not much fun. Never mind. Persevere. I veered a little way into a lawn to sniff some lilacs. That was nice. Some lilac bushes are over, but these two bushes were nice.

On my drive home from work, I had noted some nice bushes of light pink peonies. I planned to run by those and take a sniff. I did not remember exactly where they were, so it was a nice surprise when I saw them.

I kept glancing at my Garmin. It tells me what rate I am currently running, which leads to some disappointment. For example, I vary from a 15-minute mile to bursts as fast as a 10-minute mile (I know, not very fast in the ultimate scheme of things). So it is an average. So my Garmin may say I am running at a 12:20 pace, but 13 minutes have passed and I still haven’t gone a mile!

However, I try not to worry about how fast I go. I usually try to run for a certain length of time, not a specific distance. Today I ended up running for 24 minutes, 1.8 miles. In addition to smelling lilacs and peonies, I petted one nice dog. I was running through Meyer’s Park and saw a dog I had petted before.

“There’s that nice dog that likes to be petted!” I said, sprinting across the grass. The dog looked happy to see me and sat sweetly while I petted her and called her a good dog. I also greeted her person and wished him a nice day, to which he responded in kind.

It’s a Blooming Blog Post!

I think I have used that title before, but I like it.

It is a hot, muggy day in the Mohawk Valley. I did not run, I did not walk. Well, I walked. Just out into my yard, to take a couple of flower pictures for a blog post.

Pretty, yes?

And still no captions. What the hell, WordPress? And yes, autocorrect, I DID want to say “hell” not “he’ll.” Sheesh!

Where was I? Ah yes, admiring my rhododendrons. It is nice I have at least one kind of flower in my backyard. I have not done my container garden nor any of the yard gardening I had planned.

My front yard is looking fairly cheery, too.

I am delighted with my peonies. They have such a lovely scent. The daisies are delightful, too, if a little out of control.

Then I backed up (carefully, because with my luck lately I might back into something and land on my ass) to get a shot of both.

I do not despair of having some semblance of a container garden. Perhaps this weekend I can work on it. Maybe I could muster some ambition to do something about it after work. No promises, but that would make a pretty good blog post
