Waterfront Lunch

On Saturday after I got home from the RCIL Character Brunch,  I told Steven it was too nice a day to sit home.  I suggested we go somewhere for a drink where we could look outside at the beautiful fall weather.

“And get something to eat,” he said.  Who am I to object to that?

We ended up at the Waterfront Grille in Herkimer, where we like to sit at the bar and order appetizers.  Saturday, however, we got lunch.  I had the Wrap of the Day, which was crab salad, with cole slaw. Steve had Soup and a Half Sandwich, split pea and egg salad respectively.  I tried his egg salad.  Yum!  My sandwich was yummy too.

I forgot to ask her name, but she was a great bartender.

I asked the bartender to pose for a picture with Steven, for my blog post.  Then Steven took one of me.

I don’t remember what was in my hand that got cut off.

As we sat enjoying our wine, the bartender put upside down shot glasses by us, to show somebody had bought us another round.  It was Rocky, the owner, who was sitting at the other end of the bar.  How nice was that!  Steven wanted to purchase one of the shot glasses for his collection.  Rocky agreed to let us have it for a very attractive price.

Steven’s new shot glass.

I guess I didn’t do such a good job getting an uncluttered picture.  Oh well, that’s my life.  It was a nice souvenir from great lunch. I can’t wait till we go there again!

The Waterfront Grille is located at 800 Mohawk St., Herkimer NY, phone number 315-717-0700.

Great Saturday, Late Post

What a Scattered Saturday I had!  It included everything but making my blog post (I bet you thought I was going to say “everything but the kitchen sink”)!  So here I am, up earlier than usual on a Sunday morning, trying to take up the slack.

I got up earlier than usual yesterday morning, too, with the result that I went running in the dark.  I had last run on Thursday, and that run was terrible. It had me questioning my ability to make the Reindeer Run 5K in Little Falls in December.  Well, not seriously questioning it.  More like questioning how well I was going to run it.

Well, yesterday’s run was AWESOME!  I felt my running mojo was BACK!  I even added 10 percent to the length of my run, which I had not planned to do till Sunday.  I thought it would be a great run to make a Running Commentary post about.

Unfortunately,  when I got home, I had a headache.  I felt rather ill-used about this, especially since I had purposely NOT tied one on on Friday (despite making my blog post about wine).  I had a volunteer commitment at 10 (please be there by 9:30), so this was a problem.  I took some OTC painkillers and heated up my face thing.  I have this face mask with herbs my Mom got me. You heat it in the microwave and lie down with it.  It’s not always the miracle I’m hoping for, but it always feels good.

The headache didn’t entirely leave me, but I was ready at 9 when my friend Kim picked me up to go to the Character Brunch fundraiser for RCIL.  I will definitely write more about that later, with pictures!

After I got back home,  Steven and I went out to the Waterfront Grille in Herkimer for a late lunch.  Another fun time I hope to write more about! Then it was home and on to the Halloween movie watching portion of the day.

Alas, this was when I fell asleep.  Not right away, of course.  I knitted, finishing a Halloween colored scarf, and enjoyed some Halloween entertainment.

And now I have completed another late blog post.  I am quite determined to make my Sunday blog post today.  We’ll see how I do.

Wining on Friday

Ah, wine.

My friend Bruce is always commenting on Facebook that it is wine time.  At this point in my Friday, I am inclined to agree.  I unexpectedly spent an extra two hours at work.  While I am very grateful for the overtime, I am TIRED!  Oh, don’t tell me to not complain, complaining is a time honored tradition for many of us, and a usually reliable method for letting off steam.

Where was I? Ah yes, Lame Post Friday.  I know, yesterday’s post was not exactly able bodied (isn’t that the opposite of lame?).  When have I ever hesitated to make multiple foolish posts in a row?

Another example of wine time.

Looking through my Media Library for more illustrations to pep up the post,  I came across this one of my husband, Steven, enjoying a glass at the Waterfront Grille in Herkimer, NY.  What, did you think I was drinking alone?  Full disclosure: I have enjoyed a solitary beverage on occasion.  Today, I join my husband in a glass (he got in first, then I saw if there was room for me).

I’m only a little hidden by Tracy’s glass.

I had to search for a picture of myself with wine.  That is because I am usually the one taking the pictures. This is our friend Tracy and me on  different visit to the Waterfront Grille.

Well, that’s three pictures and over 200 words.  I call that OK on a Lame Post Friday.  Happy Weekend,  everyone!

Murder, Wine, Just Another Scattered Saturday

I shall attempt a Scattered Saturday post,  but no promises. I am still tired and shaken after what turned out to be a wonderful theatre experience with Fabulous and Fatal, our murder mystery at the Travel Lodge in Little Falls to benefit the Herkimer County Historical Society.

Quite frankly, I expected to wake up hung over.  However, I did not, and remembering how much I actually drank, that is not surprising. I nursed my Cabernet Sauvignon, because I was performing.  Incidentally,  the performance went awesomely.  I will write more about it when I have some pictures to share.

This morning I went for a run.  Later we had some breakfast at Mona’s in Mohawk.  Later yet we went to a wine tasting at Valley Wine and Liquor in Herkimer.  Yum!  Then it was a quick trip to the Marina in Frankfort, NY and a drink or two at Heelpath Brewing Company.  Untamed Red by Rustic Ridge Winery in Burlington Flats.  Yum!

Now we are home, having arrived at the bra off, sweats on, wine drinking, movie watching portion of the day.  What Halloween movies will we watch?  I may list them tomorrow, having a Saturday and Sunday Cinema post.  As always,  no promises,  but I hope you will all stay tuned.

Lots of Stuff on Scattered Saturday

Ah yes, I must make a blog post today. I think I can manage a Scattered Saturday post.

We slept in till a little after six.  Full disclosure: I spent a good deal of early morning time wishing I could sleep, but I got in a couple of REM cycles.

I ate some breakfast and did a load of laundry before I went for a short run.  On the run I got inspired to decorate our porch by looking at other folks porches. However, before doing anything to my own porch, I went to a rummage sale at Mohawk Reformed Church.

After helping my husband, Steve, hang lights and get our witch and ghost set up (we want to put out further decorations,  but this was enough for day one), I went to the New 2 You Consignment Store in Ilion, NY.  I found a fabulous dress for our upcoming murder mystery.

After I got home, we were both hungry so went to Salvatore’s in Herkimer for lunch.  Then it was on to Heelpath Brewing Company at the Frankfort Marina,  then to the End Zone Pub and Grub in Herkimer.

We came home after that and are watching television.  Once I finish this I can knit. I do love to knit and watch television.  My only question is: true crime or old movie?  A little suspense adds interest to my evening.

I Plan to be Fabulous

One thing I re-learn constantly is Don’t Make Plans.   They never work out.  I could offer countless examples.  No wait, I can’t.   If I offer examples you can probably count them. Once again I indulge in hyperbole.

Tonight we had rehearsal for Fabulous and Fatal,  the murder mystery we are presenting as a fundraiser for the Herkimer County Historical Society on Oct. 18.  We brought costumes and props, so I PLANNED to take pictures for this blog post.  Did I take any picture?  Of course not!

In my defense, nobody was completely in costume. A couple of actors tried on a few pieces, but there was no real photo op.  Alas.  However, we discussed complete costumes,  and I believe we will all be, yes, fabulous.

In hopes of making this a better blog post,  I will include a couple of pictures of props that previously appeared in this space.

I may not wear pearls, but my lips might be this red.

I rehearsed with this glass in my hand.  Full disclosure: I had wine in it.  I may very well have wine in it next Friday as well.  Judge me if you are so inclined.

There may be moustaches involved, but bow ties are not planned.

This is the other side of that glass.  I love this glass.  It was a gift to me from the cast of Leading Ladies,  the play I directed at Ilion Little Theatre in — goodness, was it 2016?

I see I am over 200 words.  Regular readers know I consider that respectable for a blog post.

Fabulous and Fatal will be presented Friday Oct. 18 at 5:30 p.m. at the Travel Lodge in Little Falls, NY.  Tickets are $30 for dinner and show, available at Herkimer County Historical Society,  315-866-6413.

Scattered Saturday In Progress

If I don’t make my blog post now, I will probably miss today.  But what to write a blog post about, that is the question. I actually have a few possibilities, but none currently move me.  Oh, I know, I know: one must not wait for “inspiration” nor yet write what one “feels like” writing.  Well, this blog is my own personal hobby for my own entertainment and enlightenment…

Oh, that feels like a terribly selfish thing to say.  I hope nobody stopped reading in a huff.  Of course I also write for the entertainment of others; otherwise why publish on the internet for all to see?  OK, let’s try to entertain.

I went for a run this morning.  It was chilly but not too bad.  My favorite part was seeing people’s Halloween decorations.  Back home I wrote a few post cards. I waited till nine to take them to the post office, so I could continue on to a rummage sale at Christ Episcopal Church in Herkimer, NY (where I live).

Later on I left the house again.  I stopped at Hot Spot Salon and Spa to drop off a flier for Fabulous and Fatal,  the murder mystery to benefit Herkimer County Historical Society.  I was at the Hot Spot last night getting a haircut and pedicure.  I’m quite beautiful now, or do I flatter myself?

Later on, my husband, Steve, and I went with our friend Kim to taste wine at Valley Wine and Liquor in Herkimer. Yum!

In a short while, I have to get ready for Ritz and Ragtime at Rutger Park in Utica, the fundraiser I mentioned yesterday.  Incidentally, I am sipping Pumpkin Spice coffee from Utica Roasting as I type this.

I hope to take some pictures later of the fundraiser.  I hope I won’t have too much of a Wrist to Forehead Sunday to make a post.

Fun Thursday at the End Zone

I see that last Thursday I did not blog about going out to eat.  Was it last Thursday?  Perhaps it was another day, and I am looking at the wrong blog posts.  My point is that one day recently,  I came home from work and Steven said, “I want to send out or go out for dinner,  and I said, “GO out!”

The same thing happened today.  We ended up at the End Zone Pub and Grub in Herkimer and had a very nice time.

We arrived about twenty till five, ordered wine and asked if the kitchen was open.  The owner told us it would be at five, when his son arrived.  We sipped our wine and bided our time.

Eventually I got a cheeseburger and Steven got chicken tenders with fries.  I helped him eat his fries.  While we sipped and ate, we talked about plays, movies, the Oscars, and playing darts.  Two other patrons were playing darts at the time.

As we left, I told the owner I wanted to get a picture of him and his son for a blog post some time.

“Do you want to do it now?” he asked, and called his son out.

The men responsible for our good time.

After I got that shot, I took a couple more.

My date for the evening.

The dart board.

I thought it made for a fun Thursday night.  One more work day to get through before the weekend!

A Peek at the Past with Cindy and Steve

OK, so my post this morning counted for Wednesday,  and this is my Thursday post,  made on Thursday (despite what my WordPress timestamp might say), so I’ve got that going for me.  I thought I would indulge in a Throwback Thursday,  using pictures from my Media Library.  Hey, I’m making the day’s post on the day; let’s not ask for miracles.

This was a while ago.

Here is a shot I go back to again and again.  It is Steve’s and my wedding day in 1990 (1990? Yikes!).   These days we prefer to drink champagne from a flute.  Live and learn, I guess.  I also prefer the drier stuff these days, although I cherish memories of good times with Asti Spumante.

Yes, I am giving him The Look.

Maybe I will make this a Steve and Cindy Day.  For one reason,  I love this picture of Steve and me in Harvey at Ilion Little Theatre in 2012.  I’m Veda Louise Simmons; Steven is Dr. Chumley. A great theatre memory.

I should have found a better wig.

I include this one, because it is one I haven’t shared as often.  I am portraying the ghost of Roxalana Druse at the 1834 Jail in Herkimer, NY.  It was a fundraiser for the Herkimer County Historical Society.  I shamefully forget what year.

Steven and I have had some fun times together.  But we will have to take a few more pictures, for blogging purposes, if nothing else.  In the meantime,  I hope you have enjoyed my Throwback Thursday post.

Am I Lame? Or Just a Lush?

Ah yes, Lame Post Friday (why did my predictive text thingy not offer me “Post Friday” when I typed in “Lame”?  I’m just asking). I have had a long-ish week.  Not as bad as some, not as onerous as others, and I am SO ready for a three day weekend!  OF COURSE  I am grateful for said weekend.  I KNOW some people do not get one.  For heaven’s sake, I used to be one of those people,  get off my back about the gratitude already!  Sheesh!

Where was I?  Ah yes sitting on my deck, trying to make some semblance of a blog post before the wine really kicks in and I fall asleep.   Don’t judge me.

We started our evening at a wine tasting at Valley Wine and Liquor in Herkimer, NY.  So fun!  I would in fact like to write a whole blog post about it so will say no more now.  After sipping some wine we  went to the End Zone Pub and Grub on North Main Street, where we had some more wine and a little food.

There is not much else to tell about my Friday.  Only that my predictive text thingy does not seem to be offering such responsive suggestions as it has in the past.  I really must get back to ten-fingered typing.  In the meantime, this will have to do for this week’s Lame Friday Post.   I hope you are all having a delightful start to your weekend.
