I Don’t Just Wine

I am going to make a Throwback Thursday Post and work on having more Mohawk Valley Valley Adventures tomorrow. Any objections? I thought not.

I wish I was there!

From January 2017, I found this picture of Prospect Falls Winery in Prospect, NY. I love that place! I see by their Facebook page they are open. Not this minute, but tomorrow. There’s an adventure I could get into.

Beer is good, too!

Here is a picture of my husband Steven and me at Woodland Farm Brewery in Utica, NY. That is another site I’d like to visit again.

I think we look nice.

These hot flappers are my friend Kim and I at a Prohibition Party at Gerber 1933 Tavern in Utica. They are temporarily closed, according to their Facebook page. Oh, I hope they re-open soon! I will be there, whether or not I can dress in 1920’s clothes.

And there’s always booze.

I was looking for another picture of 1920’s clothes, but I found this one of the proprietors of DikinDurt Distillery in Herkimer, NY. I believe they are still open at their Smith Road location, as well as being available at some local liquor stores and bars. It is some very fine stuff.

I guess this has been a fairly alcohol-soaked Throwback Thursday Post. But I never drink and drive. In future posts I’ll look to share some sober adventures as well.

In the meantime, I am over 200 words. Happy Thursday, everyone!

I have been sitting here, clicking back and forth from “Add new post,” thinking that I just cannot write another post about not being able to make a proper blog post. Which is silly, because of course I can; I do it all the time. Additionally, it is Monstrous Monday. Why shouldn’t I make another post of monster pictures and random remarks? Yet, I feel I should be making more posts about the Mohawk Valley.

A common complaint.

My lack of Mohawk Valley Adventures is really getting on my nerves. It is largely because of these COVID times. My beloved community theatres are dark. Some of my favorite local businesses are closing their doors, we hope temporarily. Community events are rare or virtual. Why am I going on about this? We all know it.

This was in The Emporium in Herkimer, taken during a past adventure.

The other reason for my lack of adventuring is that I went back to work. My body and brain really got used to sitting home. And, it just this minute occurs to me, I am NOT used to learning a new job. I was over nine years at by last job. No wonder I am so tired!

I’m buried in difficulties!

Or am I just making excuses?

I suppose I am. However, I have gotten up to 200 words, my rather arbitrary goal. I will look about me for more local topics for future posts. As always, I hope you’ll stay tuned.

Here I Am! I Hope!

I think I found a way to get back to Classic Editor.  I start a post, save it, get out of it, find it under “all posts,” and then I can click on “Classic Editor, ” and here I am!  I do not know if this will continue to work, but I will enjoy it for today at least.

My computer woes continue.  My laptop turns on, but I cannot get it out of Airplane mode.  I thought surely I would be able to, since I have done so before. But even after calling myself Shirley, I failed (get it?  Airplane? Surely/Shirley? Well, I thought I was funny).  Additionally, I can no longer get onto WordPress on my phone.  And there was a picture in it I wanted to use. Rats!

Here I am!

I remembered I had shared the picture to Facebook so downloaded it to my Tablet from there. Phew!  I may catch up with technology at last!

This is a selfie taken after my run yesterday.  I know, I finished my challenge of 34 minutes for 34 days and then take a selfie (remember that?).  I did not even take selfies all 34 days.  I don’t like taking selfies.  But I felt like taking one yesterday. For one reason, it had snowed and I hoped some had stayed on my hat.  No such luck, but I snapped the pic anyways.

I thought I might crash and burn after my 34 days, but I have not quite done that.  My runs have been shorter and not every day, but I am still getting out there.  I may even make a Running Commentary Post again soon.

In the meantime,  I see I am over 250 words.  I think I will call this a Tired Tuesday Post and drive on.  Full disclosure: I actually got a lot done today, but it would probably make a dull post.  I’ll try for a good Mohawk Valley Adventure tomorrow.  As always, I hope you’ll stay tuned.

As October Wears On…

So pretty!

I have spent a good deal of time this October admiring the scenery. I feel grateful that whatever else is going on in my life, I have had more opportunity to do this than in previous years. “Whatever else” is really not as heinous as it might be. Merely, I am on furlough from my job and may soon hear I am terminated. I add that for clarification’s sake.

That was not a very good paragraph. I don’t know where I think I am going with this blog post, but I say that is OK on Lame Post Friday.

One of my favorite places.

I have visited Pumpkin Junction in Sauquoit twice this year, and I may go again tomorrow. I plan to go adventuring with my friend Kim, and we have not made definite plans yet.

Last week’s adventure.

Last Saturday we went to Iron Rock Brewing in Little Falls. It was so much fun, I wouldn’t mind going again. Or there is always Copper City Brewing in Rome.

I was there in September for the Mini-Maker with Roman Runners.

Or Heelpath Brewing Company in Frankfort.

I totally forgot this bartender’s name.

Scenery, pumpkins, beer, or maybe wine, as Kim is drinking in the photo above. I look forward to a fun Saturday. Now I shall get back to enjoying my Friday. Thank you for tuning in.

Winesday for Mohawk Valley Girl

The duck says, have a glass of wine!

Is it really Wednesday?  My week is dragging by so slowly, I was afraid we would be stuck for a few days on Tuesday.  However, I thought I might try something new:  a Winesday Post.  Full disclosure:  I am enjoying a glass.  Judge me if you are so inclined.

See? A nice small glass!

I add a picture of the glass I am using, because it is from a local business, Prospect Falls Winery.  I LOVE Prospect Falls Winery!   I must get there again soon.  As I type that, I realize there are a lot of places I want to go to soon.  I need more Mohawk Valley Adventures!

Two of my favorite people!

These are our friends Phyllis and Jim.  The wine often flows when we get together, at least for Phyllis and me!  It is not just places I want to visit again, it’s people!

Another person, another place!

Here is my friend Kim at Heelpath Brewing Company in Frankfort,  NY, drinking wine from Rustic Ridge Winery in Burlington Flats.

Same place, different wine.

And here I am, along with Jeff, the proprietor.  I am drinking Untamed Red, from Rustic Ridge.  Kim’s is Sweet Little Blond, appropriately enough.

I think Winesday is a pretty good day, and I hope it makes a reasonably entertaining blog post.

A Productive Lame Post Friday

This is my last weekday off till Labor Day, since I return to work from my latest furlough on Monday.  I spent a good part of the day running here and there to research an article I hope to write for Mohawk Valley Living magazine. I thought I could write a whole blog post about my gyrations.  I have a number of pictures I can share.  However, as the evening wears on, I feel increasingly less inclined to do so.

Then again, it is Lame Post Friday.  How about if I share some of the pictures but do not worry if there are not as many words.  Oh, who am I kidding?  Once I start sharing the pictures, I ought to come up with plenty of words.

I love research.

My first stop was the Oneida County History Center in Utica.  They were very helpful.  While there, I realized that some of the pottery I was researching was on display at Fountain Elms, part of Munson Williams Proctor Institute.  Accordingly,  I headed back down Genessee Street.

Mmmm… beer steins.

I did not stay there long, although I was tempted to grab a bite at their Cafe.  Next time, I hope!  Instead, I took a drive to Little Falls, to Showcase Antiques.  First I did stop for a bite at Ann Street Deli.  I was hungry and needed a pick-me-up!

One photo of many.

I found the particular display I was looking for and had a delightful conversation with one of the owners.  I also looked all around the shop and took a few pictures unrelated to my project at hand.

How could I not take a picture of Schulz and Dooley?

It was a productive and enjoyable day.  Now I have a lot more writing to do.  It should be fun.  In the meantime,  Happy Friday, everyone!

Typing Away on Slacker Saturday

Oh dear, I have the type-it-in-backspace-it-out disease.  I have not been afflicted with that in a while.  This is only going to be a Slacker Saturday Post anyways, so I will just keep typing and hope for the best (as Truman Capote once said, “That’s not writing, that’s typing”).

I went for an extra long run this morning up a kick-butt hill. I actually felt pretty good afterwards, although my knees hurt abominably when going up and down stairs for at least an hour.  I must do some knee-strengthening exercises.  My Mom told me a few.  I hope I can remember what they were.

I wrote some post cards but did not get around to walking them to the post office till it was too hot for me to enjoy the walk.  I had seen a garage sale on Facebook so decided to drive to the post office then to the sale.

On the way to the sale, I passed another sale.  I stopped at that one afterwards.  All I bought at the first one was a glass of lemonade.  At the second I found a cute Halloween decoration, and I petted a puppy.  Yay!

Back home, I wrote a little on my novel and watched television.  Not at the same time.  Now I am relaxing on the deck with my husband and enjoying the cool of the evening (when everything is gettin’ kind of groovy) (no, wait, that’s something else).  Happy Saturday, everyone!

Looking Back at and Forward to Mohawk Valley Adventures

How about a nice Throwback Thursday post?  I only hope I do not repeat something I have recently thrown back to.  As usual, no promises.

Hubba, hubba! Or do I flatter myself?

This is from April 2017.  These are my friend Kim and I at a Prohibition Party at Gerber’s 1933 Tavern in Utica, NY.  I have some better 1920’s clothes and accessories now.  I hope for a chance to wear them sometime.

Same place, different hotties.

And here are my friend Phyllis and I at the same place a few months later.  It was a delightful interlude each time.

So Sweet! And not just the people.

Here are my husband Steven and our friend Margaret, at Margaret’s business, the So Sweet Candy Cafe in Utica.  You can get lots of yummy sweets and treats there!

Another shot of favorite people at a favorite spot!

Here are Steven, our friend Thom, and Kim at Salvatore’s Pizzeria and Restaurant in Herkimer.  I have mentioned this place many times and will no doubt plug them again soon.

I may be biased, but I think we’re a handsome couple.

Once in a while I get a selfie to turn out right.  This was taken one evening at Fratello’s Pizzeria in Frankfort,  where we had gone to eat good food and enjoy good music from local musician Phil Arcuri.

I can’t wait to go hear this guy again!

I feel happy now, looking forward to enjoying more good times at local businesses.  Of course I will stay home and safe — and keep others safe! — for as long as it takes.  But how happy I will be when I can go Mohawk Valley Adventuring again!

Scattered Sunday? Or Time to Swoon?

I don’t see why I should not have a Wrist to Forehead Sunday post.  We’re all stuck home, trying not to spread Covid-19 (such a comfort to call it by a name not shared by a beer or a typewriter).  Nobody can reasonably expect me to have a real Mohawk Valley Adventure.

In fact, I did leave the house, but I hope not in an unsafe fashion.  I went for a nice run this morning.  Later I went to a big box store (no need to name names) for yarn.  Then I went to Little Falls to take a walk along the canal.  I hope to write about it for Mohawk Valley Living magazine.  I hope they like what I will come up with.  In any case, it was a pleasant walk.

After walking and taking a few pictures,  I returned to Herkimer to buy groceries.  I observed a few bare shelves, but I managed to get most of what I was looking for.  I was exceptionally happy to return home for the bra off, sweatpants on, movie watching portion of the day.

I have been enjoying my day but feel a bit guilty about not making a good blog post.  Shall I swoon onto a handy chaise lounge,  posed dramatically with the back of one wrist to my forehead?  I shall decide as time goes on.  I wonder if I could manage a selfie of same for tomorrow’s blog post.

No Scatter to my Saturday

Regular readers know I love to run around on a Saturday having Mohawk Valley Adventures to write about.  Everybody in the country knows we are all on at least semi-quarantine due to the corona virus. What, I ask you, is a blogger to do?

I also want to just mention that I rather resent the naming of thus virus.  Corona is one of my favorite beers AND and of my favorite typewriters!  I guess it has another name, Covid-19 or something.  I admit I have not been keeping up with things.

In any case, I have enjoyed my Saturday, even if I have not done anything blog-worthy.  I went for a run, I wrote a few postcards, I took a nap.  Eventually, Steven and I settled down to watch movies.  I finished a scarf and started an afghan.  I must go somewhere tomorrow to get more yarn.

For a while now I have been saying that I could use a weekend of just hanging out.  Now I have it.  And I realize a couple of weeks of same would be even more welcome.  Oh well, you can’t have everything.

I will strive to have real subjects to post about in the future, even with the national emergency of the C virus.  For today, I hope this will be enough.  If it is or if it isn’t,  happy Saturday all.
