Who Likes Monday? Or Spiders?

Mondays are hard.  At least for me they are, and I know a lot of people feel the same way.  On the other hand, many people do not work Monday through Friday, and for them Monday holds no terrors.  Similarly, Friday holds little joy.  What I am worried about here is that what I write may not resonate with a sizable number of readers.  Then again, when have I ever felt like one of the majority?

Why am I arguing with myself?  Where do I think I might end up?  I have no answers to these questions.  Quick, throw in a picture of a monster!

Eeeeeeeee!

Lots of people are freaked out by spiders.  I confess to not being particularly bothered by them (see what I mean about being in the minority?).  For example,  this morning I saw one dangling from the ceiling where I work.  I let it live.  I considered trying to catch it and let it go outside, but it was pretty cold out today.  I don’t know how well spiders do in the cold.

One of my favorite hats.

And here I am with a spider on my head.  I picked up this sweet fascinator at a yard sale to benefit H.A.L.O., Helping Animals Live Organization, a cat rescue operation based in Little Falls, NY.  They are hosting an open house this Saturday.   You can visit their Facebook page for more information.

Oh look, I am over 200 words.  Sufficient for a Monstrous Monday, I think.  I hope you will tune in tomorrow, when I will try for something better than a Tired Tuesday Post.

I Also Have To Write Something

So posting daily did not last very long.  I picked up my Tablet to make a post yesterday but felt too blank and sad.  I thought if I gave it a try this morning (Monday) I might meet with success.

Hmmm… So far, not much.

Isn’t this awesome?

I came across this in my Facebook On This Day.  I find it inspiring.  However, as we all know, inspiration is not enough.  You also have to write something.  I have a few projects in various stages of development:  a new novel and a couple of mysteries, one not involving murder.  I’ll share more about that one later (preview of coming attractions).

For right now, I am up to 100 words, halfway to my self-imposed minimum for a blog post, and I fear I have neither informed nor entertained.  What can I do about that?

What am I doing, emphasizing that this post is late?

I peeped into my Media Library and found this.  My Monday obligations are looming in my peripheral vision, urging me to finish this post and get on with the day.  Am I in fact clinging to Sunday by making my Wrist to Forehead Sunday post?  I think not, but perhaps I flatter myself.

In any case, I have achieved 200 words of this nonsense.  I hope you will all tune in later for my Monstrous Monday Post.

I Should Make a Better Blog Post

I can hardly have a Wrist to Forehead Sunday when I have Monday off, can I? I mean, isn’t that the main reason we feel inclined to swoon, dramatically posed with the back of one wrist to our forehead (I feel better if I explain it every time): the thought that we return to the work-a-day world tomorrow? I should feel relaxed and happy, shouldn’t I? Then again, when have I ever done what I should?

The only thing I got done today was the grocery shopping, which was actually kind of a big deal, since I blew it off last Sunday. I went around eight this morning to beat the crowd, but I didn’t finish putting away all the groceries till just now. In fact, since my bottle of shampoo is sitting at the bottom of the stairs waiting for me to take it up the next time I go, one could argue that I still haven’t put them all away. Hey, at least the ice cream made it to the freezer.

I spent most of the day reading a romance novel. In my defense, it was by Georgette Heyer, the queen of Recency romance. Perhaps that is not much of a defense, but I do what I can. Judge me if you are so inclined.

I went for a walk just before finishing putting the groceries away. You see, I started to make this post, realized I had very little to say and thought to do a Pedestrian Post. Additionally, I thought it might help me sleep better. I had tried to take a walk first thing this morning but cut it short, because my stomach was upset. Unfortunately it was a very uneventful walk.

Dull days make for dull blog posts. On the brighter side, if you could call it that, now that I have made a dull blog post, I have a reason to swoon, wrist to forehead fashion. If you have continued reading thus far, thank you for tuning in.

W(h)ining About Monday

Who me? Drink wine?

I thought I would open with a picture. In fact, it has not been a particularly heinous Monday. However, I am tired and disinclined to make anything but a Monstrous Monday Post. Can I find any good monsters to share? We shall see.

She’s so fine!

This, of course, is Bonita, our year-round skeleton who lives in our living room. This was her October outfit. I found the hat at a rummage sale. I think it is for a small dog. The black tulips, which I’m afraid do not show up very well, were made by my clever theatre friend, Jerry, for a murder mystery called Spring into Murder.

Another friend.

This is Harold Ghoul (get it?). I got him at a neighbor’s yard sale. I don’t know what they used to call him.

That says it all.

This is not turning out to be much of a blog post. I guess my bottom line is, I don’t like Mondays. I am embarrassed to admit it, because it is such a cliche. I hate to follow the crowd! Unless the crowd is drinking wine. Teehee.

Yes, It Was Monday

Every Monday is another chance to have a fabulous, productive week. And every Monday evening I feel Just Too Tired To Do Anything. I don’t even know if I can manage a Monstrous Monday Post.

An embarrassingly common emotion.

Oh crap now I am having trouble with this WordPress editor. I couldn’t get the cursor to the left to start a new paragraph; it wanted to stay center. Now I am two to three lines below the picture and afraid to try to erase the space. And why does autocorrect only want to correct some of my typos? These are the questions that haunt me on Monstrous Monday.

Now the bastard won’t let me add another picture! What the hell?

Maybe it would help if I screamed.

Regarding the caption above, in The Tingler (yes, autocorrect, Tingler, not Tingles. Sheesh!), directed by William Castle and starring Vincent Price, only screaming could save you from the terrifying Tingler. I am not sure screaming out my frustration would have a similar effect, although I know some find such behavior helpful.

It was, my friend, it was.

I close with a ghoul I downloaded some years ago but rarely share. I confess my day was not as bad as some. However, I found it tiring. But at least I managed a 200 (or so) word blog post. Happy Monday, everyone.

Another Sunday, Another Swoon

It is my first real Sunday since October. I must get up and go to my new job tomorrow and work a whole week. Yikes! On the one hand, it will be nice to get into a routine, to feel the rhythm of Monday through Friday, to once again be gainfully employed. On the other hand, Yikes!

One way to ensure a pretty bad Monday.

There is some satisfaction in being able to post that picture again. I can only hope my new job is pleasant enough that I do not really feel like that. It is early days yet. The uncertainty makes this a true Wrist to Forehead Sunday.

That’s me, with my wrist actually on my forehead.

I am trying to take my mind off my troubles with a little murder and mayhem. I cannot possibly scroll through my Media Library again looking for a logo from Snapped. I still have a few things to do to prepare myself for my work week.

As soon as I recover from my swoon. It is, as I said, Wrist to Forehead Sunday. Perhaps now that I have a job, I can afford to purchase that chaise lounge for future swoons.

I Love Vampires on Monstrous Monday

A sentiment often shared.

If I had stuck with retail hours, perhaps Monday would be less heinous.  However, Friday would be less joyous.  We make these trade-offs in life.  This by way of introduction to another Monstrous Monday post.  My life is not so horrible, by the way.  I feel happy to have gotten through Monday. I do not worry about what Tuesday will bring.

“Pull the string! Pull the string!”

This is Martin Landau as Bela Lugosi in Ed Wood, a tour de force performance in an excellent movie.  I will be watching that movie again soon, as it is one of my favorite Halloween movies.

No Smoking, but he is smoking hot!

This is related in a twisted way.  Martin Landau plays Bela Lugosi,  who is well known for playing a vampire.  Here is a well known vampire, Blackula.  It’s a good flick. I would like to have it in my collection.

“I bid you velcome.”

To cap things off, here is Bela Lugosi himself as Dracula.  That brings things to a nice conclusion, I think.  Maybe not, though.  Maybe I should have closed with Boris Karloff, to hook into the first image.   Oh dear.  Well, we cannot always do the ideal thing.  At least I have made my Monstrous Monday post.

It Will Probably Be a Monstrous Monday

Here’s a funny thing: in the past I have been posting at 4:30(ish) in the morning because I am posting late for the day before. Today I am posting early for TODAY!  I call that progress.  You see, I got up early for a different reason (not worth recounting), so I have a few minutes extra time, which I will not have tonight, so…

Still, this isn’t going to be much of a post.  I cannot completely disrupt my morning routine, or this will be an even more Monstrous Monday than usual.  I don’t even know how far down my Media Library I will scroll to find a few monster pictures to post.  Lame Post Monday?  Let’s not call it that; it only reminds me how far away Friday seems (which is not a completely bad thing, since I have a murder mystery on Saturday I am still getting ready for).

“You’re just getting up? It’s almost my bedtime!”

I’m thinking vampires hate summer, because they must spend more time hiding from the sun.  Then again, maybe they like the extra sleep.  I do not purport to know how a vampire feels, although I do not rule out guessing for the sake of fiction.

“Put my head back, you monster!”

Not exactly a monster, but two horror movie icons, Peter Lorre and Vincent Price (yes, I know I did not need to tell some of you).  It is an appropriate picture for me, because this week I may be running around like the proverbial chicken with its head cut off (writer’s trick:  you can use a cliche if you insert the words “the proverbial” in there; it’s kind of like “sic” but more hip) (or do I flatter myself?).

I know just how he feels. Come to think of it, I know pretty much how she feels, too.

A splash of color and a big ape to close this week’s Monstrous Monday post.  I gotta run now; I’m missing my Local on the Ones.  I feel more secure once I’ve heard the weather report.

That’s Not Writing on Monstrous Monday

Now I remember why I so often have Monstrous Monday.  I am TIRED on Mondays!  And I want to make my blog post quickly and watch Dateline on OWN.

Nobody does. What am I complaining about?

All day at work today I thought about writing.  At least, throughout the day, off and on, I thought about writing.  I thought about writing my blog post.  I thought about writing the next murder mystery.  I thought about writing my next article for Mohawk Valley Living magazine.  I thought about writing a novel.  That last was more of a vague thought; for the others I actually formed words in my head I intended to put on paper.  However, as the writing books so helpfully point out, thinking about writing is not writing.

When it came time for break, the only thing I could manage was a few jottings in the food journal I am keeping this month.  I am writing down everything I eat, any exercise I get, and when I get a headache or feel light-headed.  I hope to do it for a month and look for patterns.  Being me, it is more likely that I will (a) forget to write things (b) lose the journal (c) get tired of the whole thing (d) start adding all kinds of commentary, thus obscuring the information and losing the purpose (e) any or all of the above.  But that is strictly by the way.  The point is: I am not writing enough.  Bad writer!  Get to work!

But… DATELINE!!!

Will I tear myself away from the television?  Will I continue to watch Dateline (full disclosure:  I have been giving it half an eye while I type this post) (as Truman Capote once said, this isn’t writing, it’s typing)?  Will I attempt to write WHILE watching Dateline?  A little uncertainty adds spice to my evening.  In the meantime, I think I need one more picture of a monster if this is to count as a Monstrous Monday.

“Are you going to write, or do I have to get tough?”
