These Old Broads are Ready for Broadway!

One more rehearsal till opening night! That is of Four Old Broads on the High Seas at Players of Utica.  Rehearsal last night went not too bad.  We are having fun, and I think the audience will have fun too, and that is the whole point, yes?  Yes.

Beatrice is telling us what’s what. She’s like that.

Most of the pictures I take while I am on stage do not come out very well, but regular readers know how Waste Not Want Not I am.

One of the more successful photo bombs.

This selfie almost always comes out pretty good.  The other selfies I take not so much.  But one must persevere.

Miss Tequila Mockingbird at Miss Dolly Parton!

I have not said much about the plot of the play, or our characters other than that four of us are old broads and one is a drag queen.  Well, I don’t like to give anything away.  I say, let it all unfold for the audience.  Also, I am tired out with all this rehearsing and being something of an old broad myself (yes, it’s typecasting) (and my character is kind of an idiot, so make of that what you will).  But I must plug my latest theatrical endeavor!

Four Old Broads on the High Seas will be presented Friday through Sunday, July 25 through 27, 7:30 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, at Players of Utica, 1108 State St., Utica, NY.  All tickets are $15. For more information call 315-724-7624.

Picture Me in a Play!

In the play I am in at Players of Utica, Four Broads on the High Seas, my character keeps snapping pictures, much to the annoyance of the other characters.  The beauty part of that is, I get some pictures I can use in a blog post.  Sometimes I also take a picture when I am not on stage, like this one of our esteemed director:

Doesn’t she look nice?

I take a couple of ussies in the course of the play, some of which definitely turn out better than others.  I delete the bad ones, but I will share some of the good ones.

A little blurry, but we’re all smiling!

I loved this shot, because I went to take a picture of me and the fabulous fellow, and my friend jumped right in.  It was a great character thing to do.

Another smiling trio!

The one in the middle is actually a stage crew member who was standing in for a cast member who is on vacation.  She is a young chick that actually did a great job of playing an old broad.  I got her permission to use this picture in the blog post, because I thought it was a good one.

I haven’t said much about the plot of the play, but then I don’t want to spoil anything for local readers.  I’m afraid this blog may become All Old Broads All The Time, but you’ll have that.  As always, I hope you’ll stay tuned.

I’m In The Play!

I had meant to make a Pre-Rehearsal Post, then thought maybe a Post-Rehearsal Post would be better, because I could take a picture of said rehearsal.  Of course I neglected to do so.  Never mind, I’ll just bill it as a Tired Tuesday post and drive on.

I hope at least some of my readers will be interested to find out that I got a part in Prescriptiom: Murder, the play I auditioned for at Ilion Little Theatre last week (perhaps you read my blog post about it).  I was very excited to be offered the part I wanted:  the wife that gets murdered!  I have two scenes, then I can spend the rest of the play in the dressing room crocheting.  I had a similar experience in And Then There Were None, back in 2011, before my blogging days.

A scene from auditions.

Here are two actors that are also in the cast, reading for two different parts from the ones they got, but I wanted to throw in a picture to pep things up.  I’m tired, remember?

The read-through went pretty well.  I am looking forward to working with the other actors, some of whom I have worked with before, some I have not.  It is one woman’s first play ever!  I will certainly do more blog posts about the play, eventually turning this blog into All Prescription: Murder All The Time.  Of course I hope you will stay tuned.

Rehearse Yesterday, Skate Another Day?

I missed making my Tired Tuesday post but perhaps could manage a Wuss-out Wednesday.  We shall see.  Yesterday I should have made a Post Rehearsal Post about  Curtains for Frangelica, the murder mystery we are presenting this Saturday at New Hartford America Legion.  I reminded myself at least eight times to take a picture of rehearsal for a blog post but alas did not.

But we did rehearse and will present the murder mystery.

Just to give another shout-out, Curtains for Frangelica will be presented Saturday, Jan. 25, at New Hartford America Legion.  For tickets call 315-736-7041.  I believe they still have seats available.

Rehearsal last night went pretty well, so it is too bad I did not take a couple pictures to make a full post about it, because I do not have much else going on.  I did write a short article for The Daily Sentinel, which they said was OK, about the ice rink at the Frankfort Marina.  I guess that would be a good thing for Mohawk Valley Girl to say something about.

Too cold for anybody to skate the day I was there

I was disappointed but not surprised to find nobody there skating when I went to get a couple pictures.  For one reason, it was before school let out.  For another, it was quite cold.  I may try to find a pair of ice skates and take advantage of one of the village rinks.  It would make a good blog post (preview of coming attractions).  Don’t get your hopes up to see a picture of me looking foolishly awkward on the ice, though.  How could I take a selfie at such a time?

It’s a Mystery

OK, we’re going to call Wednesday a true blogger’s sick day.  I came home from work early but even after a nap felt unable to make Wednesday’s post, even a Wuss-Out Wednesday.  Thursday morning, I thought to make Wednesday’s post, felt truly awful, called in sick, did not make the post.  Judge me if you are so inclined.

I apologize for going on about my health issues, but these things do happen, maybe even to you (perhaps not to YOU, you know who you are) (although you might just be lying about it) (never mind all that).  Where was I?  Ah yes, trying to do another Post-Rehearsal Post.  Once again I neglected to take pictures.  Perhaps I could re-share pictures from previous murder mysteries and bill this as a Throwback Thursday Post.

Pretty good gams for a woman my age, or do I flatter myself?

OK, this is not a murder mystery per se.  It is me as a character from Rubbed Out at Ruby’s, a murder mystery presented by LiFT, Little Falls Theatre Company in 2017.  We were asked to bring our characters to a Ritz and Ragtime fundraiser at a Rutgers Mansion for the Landmarks Society of Greater Utica.

Here is the entire cast.

At a recent event at The Renaissance Pub in Little Falls, NY, I ran into a cast member of this mystery, and she was interested in reviving the show, if we could find a suitable venue.  Who me, want to portray a rich lush in a 1920’s speakeasy?  Yes, please!

A totally different mystery.

Just to avoid making this an All Ruby post, I add a picture from A G.R.A.V.E. Mystery, presented in October 2017.  One of the suspects from that mystery is again a suspect.  I often work with the same people, because they are just so good to work with.

So I end on a positive note, feeling happy with my cast members.  I hope to give more information about Curtains for Frangelica, but for now, I am merely pleased that I am over 300 words.  Still feeling a little icky but hopeful for tomorrow.  Once again, I thank you for tuning in.

I Oversleep, But I Post

I overslept, my coffeemaker is taking a long time to brew, and my eyes have that filmy thing going on which blinking only helps temporarily.  Sounds like a good basis for a late Tired Tuesday post.

I neglected once again to take a picture of last night’s rehearsal for a proper Post-Rehearsal Post.  It was a disappointing rehearsal, because two cast members were absent.  They both had good reasons, and the three of us that were there read through the script twice.  We meet again tomorrow (Thursday) when I fear I will not be present.  Oh dear.

Random picture to denote passage of time while I get coffee.

I am in fact using the same coffee cup as yesterday but feel it is excessive to use the same picture two days in a row (the eye film thing almost made me miss that I had at first typed “feet” for “feel”).  I will confess that I am not feeling well and have not felt well all week.  Nothing serious, I’m sure, just severe allergy symptoms getting me down, I think.  I feel a little bad whining about it. Not bad enough not to whine, apparently.

Fun picture to distract from my whining.

So we have another placeholder post.  Why is this better than no post at all?  Discuss amongst yourselves.

I Wuss Out on my Post Rehearsal Post

Wuss-out Wednesday follows Tired Tuesday,  we all know that.  Or I could call this All Shooting at the Grange All The Time. Full disclosure: I am ready to call it a day and go to bed, with or without a blog post.  What, me go to bed without making a blog post? Say it ain’t so! Additionally,  I am working on my Tablet with a stylus pen that does not work as well as some I have worked with.

Might as well share this again.

I think I heard they have sold out for Saturday.  This is bad news for some cast members who had loved ones who would like to see the show.

When I was better about getting rehearsal shots.

I put in a picture from another murder mystery rehearsal, because I did not get any pictures of tonight’s activities.  I hope to get pictures tomorrow,  when we plan to rehearse at the Grange.

From my Media Library,.

The Grange will look different tomorrow.  They will have tables set up for that sold-out crowd.  We must decide where we will do our part.  Actually I use the term “our” lightly as I do not have an actual role in Saturday’s script.

So this is my Wuss-out Wednesday Post for the week.  Thank you for tuning in.

Not a Promising Blog Post

What the hell? I just typed in about two paragraphs worth of words, and they are nowhere to be seen!

That is what I ten-finger typed on my laptop (regular readers may recall that now it is exclusively a dining-room-tabletop) after attempting to make a Pre-Rehearsal Post. With the laptop there tends to be a delay, especially when I type fast, as I often do. So I just let my fingers fly then wait for the words to magically appear. Today they did not. In frustration, I typed in the preceding paragraph and gave it up till after rehearsal.

Now it is after rehearsal, and I am reclined in by bed, pecking in one letter at a time with the stylus on my Tablet, which is what I have sadly become used to doing. I am also sadly becoming used to making post after post about, well, nothing in particular. I must do something about that, but I can’t seem to think of any steps I can take right now.

The best thing I can think to do is bill it as a Tired Tuesday Post and hope that tomorrow I can come up with something better than Wuss-Out Wednesday. But as regular readers know, I never make promises about these things.
