All Dressed Up for Non-Sequitur Thursday

Oh, the days when I have Mohawk Valley Adventures and then feel too tired to write about them!  It is for just such an emergency that Non-Sequitur Thursday was invented (by me).

I got home from work, showered (I have the sort of job you shower after, I mention for the sake of those who did not know or had forgotten), and put on a cute outfit (although I daresay I flatter myself).  Steven and I had planned on shopping and dining.

We went to Rose Quartz Stand.  I had a gift certificate I had won at a Herkimer County Historical Society fundraiser.  We took a long time walking around and deciding.  I will probably return for even more Christmas shopping (and a little shopping for me).  After making our purchases, we walked down the sidewalk to Jamo’s for dinner.  Yum!

Now we are home relaxing.  I hope to write more about both our stops later.  In the meantime,  here is a brief shout-out to two Herkimer businesses.

The Rose Quartz Stand is located at 105 Mohawk St., Herkimer NY, phone number 315-868-5199.  They are open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday,  11 a.m. to 5 p.m, Saturday, closed Sunday and Friday.

Jamo’s Restaurant and Bar is located at 123 Mohawk St., phone number 315-866-1746.  They are open 4 to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday,  11 a.m. to 9 p.m, Saturday and Sunday.

Waterfront Lunch

On Saturday after I got home from the RCIL Character Brunch,  I told Steven it was too nice a day to sit home.  I suggested we go somewhere for a drink where we could look outside at the beautiful fall weather.

“And get something to eat,” he said.  Who am I to object to that?

We ended up at the Waterfront Grille in Herkimer, where we like to sit at the bar and order appetizers.  Saturday, however, we got lunch.  I had the Wrap of the Day, which was crab salad, with cole slaw. Steve had Soup and a Half Sandwich, split pea and egg salad respectively.  I tried his egg salad.  Yum!  My sandwich was yummy too.

I forgot to ask her name, but she was a great bartender.

I asked the bartender to pose for a picture with Steven, for my blog post.  Then Steven took one of me.

I don’t remember what was in my hand that got cut off.

As we sat enjoying our wine, the bartender put upside down shot glasses by us, to show somebody had bought us another round.  It was Rocky, the owner, who was sitting at the other end of the bar.  How nice was that!  Steven wanted to purchase one of the shot glasses for his collection.  Rocky agreed to let us have it for a very attractive price.

Steven’s new shot glass.

I guess I didn’t do such a good job getting an uncluttered picture.  Oh well, that’s my life.  It was a nice souvenir from great lunch. I can’t wait till we go there again!

The Waterfront Grille is located at 800 Mohawk St., Herkimer NY, phone number 315-717-0700.

Good Thursday Dinner

Today I post a brief shout-out to a local business, one of our favorite go-to spots:  Salvatore’s in Herkimer, NY.  When I got home from work today, my husband, Steve, said he wanted to go out or send out for dinner.

“I want to GO out,” I said.

I took my shower and got on the computer to check my email and other notifications.  It was still early for dinner, but we were both hungry.  Soon enough I was ready to go.  Salvatore’s is not that far from our house, but I drove.

I love autumn decor.

I had noticed the fall decorations last weekend when I ran this way.  I made sure I brought the Tablet so I could get a picture.

We both had a glass of Chardonnay with dinner.  I got a Chicken Greek Wrap with pasta salad while Steven enjoyed Chicken Tenders with ranch dip.  I had a couple of bites of Steve’s chicken.  Deep fried!   Yum!  It was with difficulty that I limited myself to just two bites.  This is why I have rarely meet my weight loss goals.

We both took home leftovers.  That is one of my favorite things about eating out.  On the way out, I took a couple of pictures of the decor.

I need some pumpkins and corn stalks for my front porch.

It was a lovely supper.  And now only one more day till the weekend!

Fun Time on a Sunday

Here is a quick shout-out to Waterfront Grille in Herkimer, NY.  My husband Steven and I were having a delightful time sitting on our deck but eventually decided a change of scenery would be nice.  Hence we headed for 800 Mohawk Street and looked for a seat at the bar.

Steven naturally drank a toast to me.

We sat at the bar and ordered appetizers, my favorite thing to do.

I tried to get a couple more pictures of the wider view.

Through the screen but interesting.

A better view.

I admired a baby a man was holding.  He also had a little girl,  who was very taken with the view.  I tried to get a shot of the family catching Li’l Diamond.

Here they are!

No, here!

Eventually I only wanted a shot if our bartender.

Here are Dawn and Steve.

We had a delightful afternoon.  I hope to visit the  Waterfront Grille again soon.  Perhaps we will even go on a boat cruise. I believe a variety of tours are  available.

Another Yummy Interlude

We needed to get my husband Steven a ticket for the Great American Irish Festival in Frankfort, so we headed to the Price Chopper in Little Falls.  Of course I cannot go to Little Falls for just one thing, so we also got a mid afternoon snack at Ruggiero’s Trattorio.

One of my favorite places for drinks and food.

We have eaten there before.  Our favorite place to sit is the bar, which is where we sat today.  We had some Chardonnay.  I got a bowl of French Onion Soup while Steven had a slice of pizza.  I had a bite or two of his pizza.  It had sausage, peppers and mushrooms. Yum!  I adored my soup. It felt so good on my stomach!

Steven enjoying a sip or two.

A fellow sat two seats down from us at the bar and gave the bartender a bottle of blueberry beer.

“I have to love a guy who pulls a bottle of beer out of his pocket.” I told him.

He told us how he likes to try different kinds of beer, but you often have to purchase a six- or twelve-pack at a time, so he sometimes gives some away to people he thinks will like them.  I referred him to Beer Belly Bob’s in Ilion, because he has a rack where you can mix and match a six-pack of craft beers.

We had a fun time there. I also got a picture of our bartender Carly.

A good bartender with one of my favorite names.

Ruggiero’s Trattorio is located at 546 E. Main St., Little Falls, NY, phone number 315-823-1414.  They are open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m to 9 p.m., Sunday noon to 7 p.m.

Another Yummy Meal

I continue my posts about last Saturday’s Mohawk Valley Adventures with yet another shout-out to one of my favorite local spots, Salvatore’s in Herkimer, NY.

After leaving Little Falls after the Cheese Festival,  Steven, Kim and I were feeling peckish.  Salvatore’s sounded good.  As we walked in we saw our friend Thom, who played The Man With The Music in Where’s the Cheese Monger?, the Cheese play I referenced in yesterday’s post.  Of course we all sat together.

My dining companions.

Thom had a slice of pizza and a beer.  I had a chicken wrap sandwich with pasta salad.   Steven had a fish sandwich with fries.  I completely do not remember what Kim had, but she drank Moscato while Steven and I enjoyed Chardonnay.

As we sat there, Thom said something to Salvatore behind the corner.

“Are you THE Salvatore?”  I asked.  I had never met him.  Naturally I wanted to take a picture.

The man responsible for many great meals!

We had a fun time as always.  I know I have given many shout-out to Salvatore’s.   At least it makes a change from whining about how I can’t make a blog post today!

Salvatore’s is located at 650 1/2 West German Street,  Herkimer NY, phone number 315-866-2600.  They are open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Love Those Posers!

I had a great time last night having a delicious dinner with good friends and listening to a great band.  The dinner was at The Brass Tack in Frankfort, NY and the band was The Posers.  Today’s post is going to be mostly the pictures I took.

I think I needed a bigger flash.

Normally I would be boogying down to the sound,  but there didn’t seem to be a whole lot of space on the patio. I ventured out to take a few pictures, though, and danced my way back to our table.

I got a couple shots of the band, but they didn’t turn out so good, because of them being backlit.  Everybody was having a great time.  I took a few crowd shots, which people seemed delighted to have me do.

Nobody seemed to mind the heat and humidity.

One of the friendlier tables.

We sat inside, in the air conditioning.

Jim, Kelly and Phyllis.

Steve and Jim.

We drank good wine, ate yummy food, heard great music, and had a lot of laughs.  I think I need more dinners with friends in my life!

The Brass Tack is located at 458 Acme Rd., Frankfort,  NY, 13340.  Phone number is 315-894-7996.

Pre Posers Post

I was going to wait till I got home to write about The Posers, our favorite local band.  Then I thought of how tired I might be and then I will be six (I really feel I have lost count) posts behind. This way, I don’t make things any worse, and if I do make another post later, I come out ahead.  I won’t get our hopes up about that, though (yeah, right, like anybody HOPES to read more than one Mohawk Valley Girl post in a day!).

Where was I?  Ah, yes, waiting with some impatience to go to The Brass Tack in Frankfort,  NY to hear an awesome band.  To make things even better, we are meeting our friends Phyllis, Jim and Kelly. I LOVE getting together with friends!

I have never been to the Brass Tack but have long wanted to.  It is a very popular spot, so I expect to be quite delighted. The lady that took my reservations was very friendly, so that bodes well.  I hope to do another post about the dinner.

I further hope to make a post about the band.  They play all this great music from the ’80’s and always seem to have such a fun time doing it.  We usually dance our butts off (and I have a lot of butt to dance off!).

So perhaps this has been a dull post about how I am soon to have a wonderful time.  Sorry about that.  I’ll go for a more exciting post later.

Good Late Lunch

I pause in my Saturday gyrations for a blog post about a local business.   My friend Kim and I went for a late lunch to Salvatore’s in Herkimer.  Yum!

We both were bold enough to order wine:  Chardonnay for me, Moscato for Kim.  I got the special, a chicken wrapini with peppers, bacon and boom-boom sauce.  Kim got a steak and cheese wrapini.  We both got pasta salad for our side.

My husband, Steven, did not join us, so I got a dessert to bring home to him.  Chocolate cake to die for!

The dessert case was getting quite depleted by the time we left.

After I took a picture of the dessert case, I thought I would take a couple more for blog post purposes.  I asked out waitress to pose.

I foolishly did not get her name.

Then I asked for a picture of the young man who is often around.  He insisted on taking one with the waitress.

I asked them to pose in front of the pizza ovens.

The waitress asked for a second shot.

This is a nicer picture.

I said next time I would take candid shots of the staff in action.  They were OK with that idea.

Salvatore’s is located at 650  1/2 German St., Herkimer,  phone number 315-866-2600.  They are open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday,  11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Wrist to Forehead But Fun

This may be an unusual Wrist to Forehead Sunday post in that I do not feel particularly wrist-to-foreheady (yes, computer, I know that is not a word, yet I do not believe I shall confuse any of my readers).  The obvious reason for that is that I do not have to go to work tomorrow. Yay, me.  Please don’t hate on me, those of you who do.

Since I do not have to work tomorrow, Steven and I went out to have drinks and appetizers at a local watering hole.  I took my Tablet with me, hoping to take some pictures for blog and other purposes.  Unfortunately the first place we tried has been closing on Sundays as of late.  The second place was too busy and crowded. How’s that for opposites?

Finally we went to Lombardo’s Pizzeria in Ilion, NY, where we had a couple glasses of wine and some food.  It was a fun interlude.  Next we went to Asteroga Ale House in Herkimer, where we had another drink and a pleasant conversation with another couple at the bar. Alas I did not take any pictures.  Here is where I fall far short in comparison with other bloggers. Judge me if you will.

Now we are home for what I like to call the bra off, sweats on, movie watching portion of the day.  Or we may watch an episode or two of Snapped.  In any case, I have kept my post-Christmas letdown at bay for yet another day.  Happy Sunday, everyone!
