Oh Crap! I Hit Publish Before I Thought up a Title!

I have waited till too late on a Saturday night to make anything but a short, foolish Scattered Saturday post.  Of course, it is not that late an hour for most people; 8:13 p.m. used to feel fairly early for me, too.  However, I have been up since 5:30 a.m., which, regular readers may recall, is sleeping in for me.

Where was I?  Ah yes, nowhere in particular.  I went for a pretty good run this morning, in spite of 10 degree weather (according to the blinky sign in front of Trinity Lutheran Church on German Street). I felt sufficiently bad-ass about that.  Full Disclosure: it was not a bad run at all; I wore sufficient layers that only my face was cold.

Later in the day, Kim, Steven and I went to Meeples Mug House in Little Falls for Brainstorming the Bard, an event for LiFT, the Little Falls Theatre Company.  We aim to bring summer Shakespeare back to the Little Falls area.  More about that endeavor soon!

One of my favorite spots!

The weather was rather frightful, so our event was not as well attended as we had hoped.  Also, after we met, we did not go out to dinner as I had wanted to.  Going home was the more sensible choice.

Of course I relaxed once I was home.

I took this picture to send to Kim, because she gave me the socks and I was not sure she had noticed I was wearing them.  She had noticed.

Back home, I cooked baked macaroni and cheese.  Steven and I watched a Svengoolie we had DVR’d, and now I am listening to Snapped while I type this (as Truman Capote once said, that’s not writing, that’s typing).

Now I am up to date and over 250 words.  Happy Saturday,  everyone!

Lame Without Parole

I pause in my viewing of Snapped to make this week’s Friday Lame Post.  Incidentally,  this is a really good —

I was about to say a really good episode, which I have not seen before, when I got distracted by another twist in the case at hand.  I just can’t get enough murder and mayhem.  Now it is a commercial, so perhaps I can progress on my blog post.

Of course as soon as I typed that I went blank. What else can I expect on Lame Post Friday?

OK, that episode is over.  Before I get all absorbed in the next one, I have a not so random observation to share.  In fiction, when somebody gets murdered, many people have a motive.  It is much more interesting that way.  When I write a murder mystery, my victim is usually a real slime bucket and few are sorry that he or she is dead.

In real life, however, murder victims are often nice people.  They are kind and loving parents, siblings or spouses.  It’s the murderer that is the real son of a bitch.

I guess this observation falls under the heading No Shit, Sherlock.  Well, what does anybody expect from me on Lame Post Friday?

Will My Post-Christmas Letdown Cause Me to Snap?

I continue to work through my post-Christmas letdown with a Wrist to Forehead Sunday post.  I so much prefer the Christmas weeks I have more time off work, but as I often observe, you can’t have everything.

My favorite!

We have been looking at Snapped for most of the day.  It is a great relief to me to get back into murder and mayhem after all those uplifting Christmas movies Steven has been watching.  Oh, OK, I like Christmas movies and specials, too.  Of course my favorite is How the Grinch Stole Christmas,  narrated by Boris Karloff.  That neatly straddles my love of Christmas and my love of classic horror.

One of my all time favorite pictures.

Perhaps we will watch this one again later this evening.  In the meantime,  I feel I must bring this post to at least 200 words.  Perhaps another illustration would help.

A handsome picture, to be sure.

Here is another mash-up of my two favorite holidays.  I hope to make both last all year.

Bonita will help me in my ambition.

One more picture illustrating my obsessions.  You see my skeleton with Christmas gear in the foreground.   In the background is a Santa Claus who is actually only half there!  Do you find that creepy?  If so, you’re welcome.  Happy Post-Christmas Letdown,  and how many days till Halloween?

What Would Peter Cushing Do?

I’m thinking all I can manage right now is a Non-Sequitur Thursday post.  We had our final rehearsal for Fabulous and Fatal,  the murder mystery we are presenting to benefit the Herkimer County Historical Society tomorrow night.  Yikes! Then Steve and I had some dinner at Salvatore’s in Herkimer.  Now we are home, looking at 20/20 on OWN, and feeling a little sorry we did not tune in earlier sooner,  since it is a case we also saw covered on Snapped.

OK, I just scrolled all the way through my Media Library twice looking for a graphic of 20/20.  How do I not have such a graphic? No matter, I suppose.  Only, a blog post pops more with illustration. I wonder if I can find something else.

No, I can’t.

“Then what am I doing here?”

I realized anything could work on Non-Sequitur Thursday,  so I hit on this shot of Christopher Lee as The Mummy.  He looks rather sad.  I don’t remember seeing this movie, but cannot be sure I haven’t seen it.

“I want my mummy!”

I guess he does not necessarily want his mummy, but I thought it would be a funny caption.  There is a window nearby out of which Michael Meyers looks.  I must get a picture of it.

“Haven’t I been in another blog post like this?”

Regular readers will not be surprised that I close with Nosferatu.  I say anything goes on Non-Sequitur Thursday.  If only I can think of a catchy title…

Apparently My Brain Would Die

Once again we did not watch enough movies for a Sunday Cinema post.  I had high hopes when we enjoyed  The Haunting (1963) fairly early on.

I had to scroll through my Media Library twice to find this.

I figured I might as well share a picture, to pep the post up.  After the movie we put it on Snapped while Steve fixed us some food, and we kind of got stuck on it.  Full disclosure: I’ve also been reading an Agatha Christie book.

A perennial favorite.

In the meantime, it is Wrist to Forehead Sunday.  I proudly posted on Facebook this morning my intention to be useless and not worry about it.  I was half right.  I was useless but a little worried about things I have not gotten done.  Perhaps I could still do something before bed.  Then again, I still haven’t finished that book…

Love the side eye.

There are also other movies to be watched. The Brain That Wouldn’t Die (1962) is what caught my eye first just now.

Is it clear by now that I am a little brain dead?  I took a decongestant earlier.  Drugs!  Either they don’t work at all, they work but dope me up, or they don’t work but still dope me up.  In this case, I feel marginally decongested as well as doped up, so I have to call it a win.

I am over 200 words, making my Sunday post on Sunday,  so I’ll call that a win too.  I hope to see you all on Monstrous Monday.

Billy Wilder, Can You Help Me Now?

I thought of making another Running Commentary post,  but that was much earlier today, while I was actually running.  Going for a run was about the extent of my usefulness for the day.  Well what do people expect out of me on a Sunday, anyways?  Regular readers know I often spend the day looking for a chaise lounge to swoon upon, dramatically posed with the back of my wrist against my forehead (hence the feature Wrist to Forehead Sunday).

Speaking of dramatic poses…

I shall attempt to peel my wrist off my forehead long enough for a Sunday Cinema post.   Earlier we watched Sunset Boulevard,  with Gloria Swanson and William Holden.  It was directed by Billy Wilder.  I suggested we continue the Billy Wilder theme with Double Indemnity.

They are an unsavory pair in this flick.

There are Fred MacMurray and Barbara Stanwyck.  Edward G. Robinson plays a supporting role,  my favorite character in the picture.

Steven wanted to take a break from movie watching, so I have a little time to ponder our next cinematic feature.

Classic.

We could continue the Billy Wilder theme but on a lighter note with Some Like It Hot.

Two of my favorites.

Another Billy Wilder movie we love is Witness For The Prosecution.

I haven’t reached my breaking point yet.

Or we could forget Billy Wilder and movies, and just watch Snapped.

Now I Can Watch Snapped

Hello, and welcome to the Easter Edition of Wrist to Forehead Sunday.  It feels wrong to be swooning onto a chaise lounge,  posed dramatically with the back of one wrist on my forehead on this holiest of Christian holidays.  Full disclosure: I do not own a chaise lounge, and I am sitting on my couch,  typing one letter at a time into my Tablet with the stylus, the way I did yesterday.  What is it with this extreme reluctance to sit up straight in a dining room chair and type with both hands into a laptop like a normal writer?

That was a long paragraph .  Anyways, I don’t want to be making a blog post at all; I want to watch Snapped and crochet.

I had a dream last night in which I had reached the end of my rope.  I kept saying, “I have reached overload.  I cannot do anything else.”  And I felt horrible.   I felt, in fact, like swooning onto a chaise lounge etc. etc.

When I considered the dream this morning (I know, it doesn’t take a psychological genius to figure out where it came from), all I could think was , “For heaven’s sake,  I don’t have that much on my plate!  Other people have a LOT more to deal with.”  In short, I advised me to get over myself.  I offer myself that same advice now.

“Get over yourself , Cindy.  And watch a little Snapped.”

I hope the rest of you are having a lovely day.

Psycho to Snapped on Wrist to Forehead Sunday

I have not watched enough movies for a proper Cinema Sunday, yet I am having too good a time for a real Wrist to Forehead Sunday.  Not an unmitigatedly wonderful time, mind you.  But let us not dwell on the negative.

Isn’t she pretty?

We just watched Psycho (1960). For being so popular, I must say it is one of my least favorite Hitchcock movies.  It is so ponderous.

It is a pretty creepy stare, no?

However, it is an entertaining enough flick.  We enjoy it once in a while.  I wanted to watch The Birds (1963), because this morning, a veritable horde of birds was making a lot of noise in our back yard.  A few were flying around, but most were perched in the tree just behind our deck.  They were luckily quiet when I left for the grocery store later on.

The birds I saw this morning were not so large.

But rather than watching another movie, I want to watch the new episode of Snapped, which I am in fact missing as I type this.

Who doesn’t love Snapped?

I couldn’t find my Snapped logo in my Media Library, so I just went to their Facebook page and looked for a Snapped picture.  This was the first one I saw.

And now I see I am over 200 words.  Score!  And I am making Sunday’s post ON Sunday (Freudian typo:  I first put “Sinday”).  Can I have broken the habit of late posts?  Time will tell (time is certainly a blabbermouth).

Documentaries and Murder, What’s Not to Like?

It’s either Wrist to Forehead Sunday or Sunday Cinema, and I choose the latter.

We started out with A North Woods Elegy: Incident at Big Moose Lake, a documentary about the murder of Grace Brown by Chester Gilette in 1906.  Steven got it for me at the Herkimer County Historical Society a couple of years ago.  I love local history.

The fellow that wrote this was one of the commentators.

I could not find a photo from the actual DVD, so I include one of some of the source material. I have this plus a couple other books about the case.  I am hoping to acquire Chester Gilette’s diary sometime.  I checked it out of Basloe Library in Hekimer once and read it, but I think it would be a good addition to my collection.

After Elegy, I was in the mood for another documentary, so I suggested the only other one we have on DVD, Curse of the Blair Witch (1999), which is one of the extra features on the Blair Witch Project DVD.  We did not go on to watch The Blair Witch Project, as we usually do, because Steven was not in the Halloween mood (as I almost always am).

I’m going to start saving sticks that fall off the trees in my yard and tie them together in figures for Halloween decorations.

Yes, every time I watch The Blair Witch Project, I say, “Why don’t they just follow the stream?”  I still find it entertaining, and I admire the alternate narrative technique.

We continued the documentary theme of the day with a couple episodes of Snapped, which Steven fixed us some yummy BLTs on Heidelberg Bread, made right here in Herkimer, NY.  I do loves me some Snapped on a Sunday.

It wouldn’t be Sunday without at least one episode.

Steven was more in the mood for a movie, so I suggested Laura (1944), one of my perennial favorites.  It is a break from documentaries, but I felt in the mood to see it again.  Vincent Price as a suave leading man type, Judith Anderson as one of my favorite characters, a stylish noir.  I’m enjoying it.

One of my favorite couples.

And now I have missed a portion of the movie while making this blog post.  No matter.  It is one we pop in often, and blog posts must be made.  Happy Sunday, everyone.
