Lame Without Parole

I pause in my viewing of Snapped to make this week’s Friday Lame Post.  Incidentally,  this is a really good —

I was about to say a really good episode, which I have not seen before, when I got distracted by another twist in the case at hand.  I just can’t get enough murder and mayhem.  Now it is a commercial, so perhaps I can progress on my blog post.

Of course as soon as I typed that I went blank. What else can I expect on Lame Post Friday?

OK, that episode is over.  Before I get all absorbed in the next one, I have a not so random observation to share.  In fiction, when somebody gets murdered, many people have a motive.  It is much more interesting that way.  When I write a murder mystery, my victim is usually a real slime bucket and few are sorry that he or she is dead.

In real life, however, murder victims are often nice people.  They are kind and loving parents, siblings or spouses.  It’s the murderer that is the real son of a bitch.

I guess this observation falls under the heading No Shit, Sherlock.  Well, what does anybody expect from me on Lame Post Friday?

Do Not Forgo the Memory

Regular readers (if I still have any) (I hope I do!) know that I rarely forgo Lame Post Friday.

OK, this is usually something I would confine to a parenthetical comment, but this being Lame Post Friday, I will give it its its own paragraph. “Forego” with an “e” means to go before, to precede.  “Forgo” means to give up or go without. I learned that just now,  when my computer told me both spellings were correct (well, not in so many words, but it did not underline or autocorrect either version). I pulled out my dictionary and looked it up.

And now you know how old school (which sounds somewhat better than just “old”) I am:  I use an actual dictionary.  It is a large red book: Random House Webster’s College Dictionary (New York, 1991).  It was given to me many years ago as a Christmas present from some friends who knew I wanted to be a writer.

Ooh look, I just related this post back to Christmas.  But now I am thinking about the friends who gave me the dictionary, a couple we were very friendly with when we lived up north, in the Potsdam and Norwood, NY area.  We pretty much lost touch with them when they left the area, although we exchanged Christmas cards and eventually re-connected with the wife on Facebook.  Sadly, she died from cancer a few years ago.

This has gotten rather melancholy for a Friday Lame Post, but I think it is important to remember friends.  So, a lexicographical note and a memory.  Sounds like a Friday post to me.

Be of Good Beer

Note to self: Do not go to the bowling alley for a beer with the guys after work.  Oh, it was fun, and the bowling alley has a very pleasant bar, but one beer easily turns into three when generous co-workers start buying rounds. It actually could have been four or five, but we passed our last upside down shot glasses over to guys with harder heads.  For feeling like a fatty so much of the time, I am kind of a lightweight when it comes to beer.

So here I am Saturday morning making my Lame Post Friday post.  We’ll, what could be more lame than my excuse for not making a post yesterday?  After all, I have been known to drink and type before.  Unfortunately, I have also been known to drink and fall asleep on the couch, which is what I did last night.

I must make a further note to myself to make my Saturday post sometime in the afternoon.  We have plans with our friends Jim, Phyllis, and Kim.  I can pretty much guarantee the wine will flow.

I guess I am showing myself as quite the lush.  It could be true, but I do not always over-indulge.  But when one is hanging out with friends and having a lot of laughs…  In other words, no promises.

Pre Reindeer Run Post

I had such high hopes of NOT having Lame Post Friday.  I don’t know why; I almost always do have Lame Post Friday,  and I often do not apologize for it.  At least, I have not exactly apologized yet.  However, that line about high hopes might be so construed.

No matter.  Blog posts must be made.  At least my blog posts by me.  I have several things I could make a blog post about.  I hope to make blog posts about them in the coming days.  For right now, though, I think I have used up all my oomph for the day.  All I can do right now is worry about the Reindeer Run 5K tomorrow.

The Reindeer Run 5K is part of the Christmas in Little Falls.  Many sales and events are part of the day.  I hope to participate in some of them after I run.  But first I must run.

Weather reports threaten rain but with warmish temperatures.  By warmish I mean 43 degrees.  45 is my cut off for shorts and short sleeves.  What are they giving me with this 43?  I mean, 45 is obviously an arbitrary cut off. One day I apparently ran in long sleeves and leggings, sweated, and decided it should have been short sleeves and shorts.  Was it 45 degrees?  I don’t remember!

So I shall spend the rest of my Friday night dithering.  Tomorrow I shall make my decision (spoiler alert: I am leaning towards shorts and short sleeves).  I may even write a blog post about it. As always, I hope you’ll stay tuned.

Some Semblance of Christmas Decorations

Earlier I had great ambitions of doing a real post, taking pictures of the Christmas decorations my husband Steven has put up. Later on I had thoughts of completely wimping out and trying to do two posts tomorrow instead.  Now I am tapping one letter at a time into my Tablet with the stylus, hoping to come up with some semblance of a Lame Post Friday post.

I just don’t imagine he could actually crack a nut.

I thought I would pep the post up with a picture I took last night at Jamo’s, where Steven and I had supper last night.  Steven threatened to try to sneak this guy out under his coat, but he was only joking. He does have a nice collection of nutcrackers, but none of this size.

I hoped the lights outside would not be too obtrusive.

Here is another shot of Jamo’s. I do love Christmas decorations.

I took another picture of Jamo’s decorations, but it turned out blurry.  I guess some people have blurry vision later on a Friday evening, but that is no reason to add to anybody’s lack of focus.

I have a few tentative plans for Mohawk Valley Adventures on Saturday.  I hope to write some good blog posts about them.  In the meantime,  Happy Friday, everyone!

Late on Friday, Ambitious for Saturday

So Thursday I managed a foolish post while tired, but I could not accomplish such a feat on Friday.  I know I proclaimed Wednesday Lame Post Friday,  but I think I will have to dub it Wuss-out Wednesday and have another Lame Post Friday today.  Uh, yesterday.

Today, in fact, is Shop Small Saturday,  a holiday tailor made for Mohawk Valley Girl!  I have actually been saying lately, ” EVERY Saturday is Shop Small Saturday for me!  I hardly ever shop big!”  That said, I plan to make a few local stops today, perhaps even venturing out of Herkimer into Frankfort, Ilion, Mohawk, and Little Falls.  Hmm. That may entail quite a number of stops. We’ll see.

However, there are other things I need to accomplish. I must get some writing done other than a late, lame blog post. It would be a good idea to run. And there is always my house that needs a lot of cleaning…

I think more coffee is first on the agenda.  We’ll make this post a little shorter than my usual, and I’ll try to make up for it later.

Late, Lame, and Like a Friday

It turns out yesterday was Wuss-out Wednesday.  I fell asleep on the couch without making my blog post.  I have been wanting a lot of sleep lately (cue jokes about my sorely needing beauty rest).  Well, yesterday was kind of like Friday, because I am off work today, so why don’t I dash off a traditional Lame Post Friday post, with random observations and half-baked philosophy.  Traditional kind of fits, too, since today is Thanksgiving.

One random observation I have been making lately is that people are putting up their Christmas decorations.   I LOVE Christmas decorations!  Some folks say it is too early, please can we wait till after Thanksgiving.  This leads me neatly into some half-baked philosophy.

Quite frankly, I can see the point of the Please Wait crowd.  I have been known to speak sternly to those that start talking about Christmas in October.  “Halloween!” I beseech them, “Wait till after Halloween!”

We could go on to ponder how we got to be in such a rush, or why some of us feel the need for three months of Christmas, and how much of this is a profit making scheme of big retail.  Oh, that sounds like a lot of trouble for a late post.

Anyways, I want to go running, and I believe it is not currently precipitating, so I need to get while the gettin’, as they say, is good.

Is a Lame Post a True Crime?

Hello and welcome to Lame Post Friday.  As I logged into WordPress, the words, “Stay tuned for Lame Post Friday” were in my head.  I was actually thinking of waiting till tomorrow and making two posts, as I have done a regrettable number of times. But, no, I am awake and post I must (as I proofread this, I felt an impulse to put, “I am awake and a post I must make,” but I never like doing Yoda talk just to make a rhyme.  Did I do right?  Discuss amongst yourselves) .  Unfortunately,  once again, I got nuthin’.

My sinus infection seems to have morphed into a bad, bad cold.  Why does a cold sometimes feel like the most debilitating illness possible?  I’m guessing that it usually does not, but some of us are bigger babies than others (yes, I mean ME).

So I spent most of the day lounging around or trying to nap, and feeling grateful that I was not at work, where lounging and napping are frowned upon,  to say the least.  Later on I felt well enough to go to a wine tasting at Valley Wine and Liquor and to dinner at Salvatore’s in Herkimer.

Now I am at home and half watching a Dateline: Secrets Uncovered which I believe I have seen before.  I know I have seen a Snapped and read a book about the case involved.  I do love true crime.

So here is my extremely lame blog post.  As always, I will try to do better tomorrow.

Someplace to Go on Friday Night

Here sit I, trying to make my blog post before we head to New York Mills (I don’t have to put NY for New York Mills,  do I?  Is there, for example, a New York Mills, Connecticut?) (and why didn’t my autocorrect fix Connecticut?  It fixes everything else!) (is it even spelled right now? I googled it).

Where was I?  Ah yes, waiting till it is time to go to the theatre (pronounced “thee-ah-tah” and said with a gesture).  We are going to see a friend in a school play.  One might argue (if one wished to annoy me) (you know who you are) that it will be an auditorium, not a theatre.  I will disagree, but I am no hand at argument.

That could actually be a good topic for a blog post: how it is THEATRE even if it is not in a building labelled theatre.  Then again, doesn’t that one sentence say it all?

In the meantime,  I want to make my blog post now, because I am sure to forget if I leave it till later.  Luckily, it is Lame Post Friday.  I think this post has been nothing if not lame.  But I bet the play will be fun.  I hope to make a blog post about it tomorrow.

Wining on Friday

Ah, wine.

My friend Bruce is always commenting on Facebook that it is wine time.  At this point in my Friday, I am inclined to agree.  I unexpectedly spent an extra two hours at work.  While I am very grateful for the overtime, I am TIRED!  Oh, don’t tell me to not complain, complaining is a time honored tradition for many of us, and a usually reliable method for letting off steam.

Where was I? Ah yes, Lame Post Friday.  I know, yesterday’s post was not exactly able bodied (isn’t that the opposite of lame?).  When have I ever hesitated to make multiple foolish posts in a row?

Another example of wine time.

Looking through my Media Library for more illustrations to pep up the post,  I came across this one of my husband, Steven, enjoying a glass at the Waterfront Grille in Herkimer, NY.  What, did you think I was drinking alone?  Full disclosure: I have enjoyed a solitary beverage on occasion.  Today, I join my husband in a glass (he got in first, then I saw if there was room for me).

I’m only a little hidden by Tracy’s glass.

I had to search for a picture of myself with wine.  That is because I am usually the one taking the pictures. This is our friend Tracy and me on  different visit to the Waterfront Grille.

Well, that’s three pictures and over 200 words.  I call that OK on a Lame Post Friday.  Happy Weekend,  everyone!
