Is It Really Lame Post Friday?

It is that awkward moment on a Friday when I do not even feel capable of a Lame Post Friday post.  On the one hand, I do not care.  We are having a FUN evening, drinking wine and watching television.  On the other hand, I feel guilty, because I am a supposedly daily blogger.  I have committed myself to publishing something at least mildly entertaining every day.  Can I do so today?  We shall see.

Earlier this week I posed a philosophical question I find appropriate to today’s post:  Do I cut myself too many breaks?  I am going to go out on a limb and say NO.  Not most of the time.

Obviously,  one could argue this.  One could argue that I deserve no breaks at all.  After all, if I was given no breaks, I would be obligated to make a decent post each and every day.  It is quite possible that I am indeed capable of such behavior.  By cutting myself said breaks, I am willfully keeping myself from living up to my full potential as a blogger.

There are a number of arguments against this stance.  The main one that attracts my present attention is:  Is living up to my potential as a daily blogger really such a worthy goal?

Of course there are a number of other arguments to consider.  For example,  how many breaks do I deserve?  If I did not cut myself any breaks, would I in fact live up to my full potential as a daily blogger?   Am I in fact capable of never cutting myself a break? What in fact is my full potential as a daily blogger?

OK, it is fairly clear that I can continue to ask any number of questions.  I have read the advice that it is OK to ask questions in writing,  but one should immediately go on to answer them.  Do I always follow advice?  We know I do not.  Was it even good advice?  That is a question deserving of its own Friday Lame Post.

Lame Me Entertain You

I never ask myself to do much on Lame Post Friday.  Right now I am sipping wine and watching movies with my husband, Steven.  We started with The Bad Seed and moved on to House on Haunted Hill.

Check out the crazy eyes!

Steven always remarks on how right away you can buy the little girl as a killer, although the other characters never seem to catch on.  Both of us would like to see a version where Rhoda really seems to be the sweet, wonderful child people seem to think her.  At least the above Rhoda is not as creepy as the girl in the Rob Lowe remake.

I had such high hopes for it.

In the first scene, the little girl looks out the window and notices a dead cat.  She says it in such a creepy, undead, movie psycho voice, I immediately retired all hopes of a classy suspense feature.  Still, I watched it till the end, I’ll give it that.  I will not voluntarily watch it again, but I sat through it once.

We moved on to House on Haunted Hill, an all-time favorite of ours.  I shared a picture from it yesterday.  However, I have other pictures I can use.

This was my cover photo for a while.

The actress on the left is a really good screamer.  I think the one on the right wore roller skates and was pulled along by stage hands.

I love a good director!

This, of course, is William Castle, coaching one of his actresses, or perhaps posing for a publicity still.  We LOVE William Castle. Some call his movies cheesy, and perhaps some of them are (although that is a selling point for me! ), but Castle loved what he did and had a sincere desire to entertain people.

I have that in common with Mr. Castle.  I hope I have entertained my readers.  Happy Friday, everyone!

Stay Hydrated, and Get Plenty of Lame

I spent today home from work, trying to nurse my sick self while waiting for the antibiotics to kick in.  Now it is time I made my Friday Lame Post,  and I ain’t got much, brain or otherwise.  Perhaps I can share a few Friday-ish pictures.  Might be lame, but that’s OK, considering the day.

A bartender whose name escapes me and my husband Steven.

What could be more Friday-ish than happy hour?  This picture was probably not taken on a Friday, but we can pretend it was.  It is the Waterfront Grille in Herkimer,  a classy place to imbibe and dine.  Of course, I was going nowhere tonight,  but I can dream of future, un-sick Fridays.

Smiling at the speakeasy!

This is me and realtor Jay Groah, one of the real movers and shakers in the greater Utica area.  We are at Ritz and Ragtime Gala, a fundraiser for the Landmarks Society of Greater Utica.  I loved my dress, although my wig left something to be desired.  I thought I was pretty clever to say my headband was more That Girl than It Girl.

I love this picture.

OK, this picture really was taken on a Friday night.  It was Fabulous and Fatal, the murder mystery we did for the Herkimer County Historical Society at the Travel Lodge in Little Falls.

At the end of the last paragraph, I was at 222 words, one of my favorite numbers.  And now I am over it.  How lame of me, but what did you expect?

Judge Me If You Are So Inclined

TGILame Post Friday.   I am sitting on the couch in my living room, wishing for another glass of wine and wondering what I can say for this week’s Lame Friday Post.

We had a delightful evening:  wine tasting at Valley Wine and Liquor in Herkimer followed by dinner at Salvatore’s in Herkimer.  Yes, an entire Herkimer post.  Judgy types might be happy that I did not drive too far while imbibing.  Or they may judge me anyways, merely for imbibing.  I cannot control how other people judge.  I can only assure those concerned that we tasted a small amount and enjoyed only a glass or so with dinner.  Hence my desire for more wine now.

Oh dear, now I have been talking about my wine intake, and that will imply that I am taking in too much.  I have taken quizzes on “Are You an Alcoholic?” and there were questions like “Have you been upset about people asking how much you have been drinking?”  and “Have you gotten defensive about people saying you are drinking too much?”

Alas, bringing up the subject at all will make some readers believe I am quite the lush (you know who you are).  All I can say is:  For heavens’ sake, it’s Friday.  Why can’t I have a drink and talk about it in my blog post?

Ooh, look at that.  I am over 200 words.  I call that OK.  Happy Friday, to those who drink and those who do not.

Cheered by Murder Mysteries

I wrote another sentence on the post I just couldn’t seem to write yesterday.  Now I am going to have my usual Lame Post Friday.  I feel sure many of my readers have been expecting it.

A happy couple, and may I say a handsome one.

I am sitting here with my dear husband Steven, and it is a little difficult to make a blog post when we keep wanting to talk.  We started reminiscing about murder mysteries, starting with the most recent, Fabulous and Fatal.  Above is a picture of the two of us, looking fabulous (or do I flatter myself?).  I should share a picture of the whole cast.  That was a great show.

As much fabulousness as allowed by law!

There are more murder mysteries on the horizon.  A plan is afoot to revive Rubbed Out at Rubies  to benefit RCIL.  More informative about that later!

Who killed Benny the Bootlegger?

There will be a couple of cast changes, and I intend to find another outfit. I’ll post more pictures as soon as I have them.

This is an even better cast photo.

My writing struggles continue, but it certainly makes me feel better to think about murder mysteries.  I may have to write a few new scenes for Ruby’s.   Then maybe a new murder mystery…

I’ll keep you posted!

Lame Without Parole

I pause in my viewing of Snapped to make this week’s Friday Lame Post.  Incidentally,  this is a really good —

I was about to say a really good episode, which I have not seen before, when I got distracted by another twist in the case at hand.  I just can’t get enough murder and mayhem.  Now it is a commercial, so perhaps I can progress on my blog post.

Of course as soon as I typed that I went blank. What else can I expect on Lame Post Friday?

OK, that episode is over.  Before I get all absorbed in the next one, I have a not so random observation to share.  In fiction, when somebody gets murdered, many people have a motive.  It is much more interesting that way.  When I write a murder mystery, my victim is usually a real slime bucket and few are sorry that he or she is dead.

In real life, however, murder victims are often nice people.  They are kind and loving parents, siblings or spouses.  It’s the murderer that is the real son of a bitch.

I guess this observation falls under the heading No Shit, Sherlock.  Well, what does anybody expect from me on Lame Post Friday?

Do Not Forgo the Memory

Regular readers (if I still have any) (I hope I do!) know that I rarely forgo Lame Post Friday.

OK, this is usually something I would confine to a parenthetical comment, but this being Lame Post Friday, I will give it its its own paragraph. “Forego” with an “e” means to go before, to precede.  “Forgo” means to give up or go without. I learned that just now,  when my computer told me both spellings were correct (well, not in so many words, but it did not underline or autocorrect either version). I pulled out my dictionary and looked it up.

And now you know how old school (which sounds somewhat better than just “old”) I am:  I use an actual dictionary.  It is a large red book: Random House Webster’s College Dictionary (New York, 1991).  It was given to me many years ago as a Christmas present from some friends who knew I wanted to be a writer.

Ooh look, I just related this post back to Christmas.  But now I am thinking about the friends who gave me the dictionary, a couple we were very friendly with when we lived up north, in the Potsdam and Norwood, NY area.  We pretty much lost touch with them when they left the area, although we exchanged Christmas cards and eventually re-connected with the wife on Facebook.  Sadly, she died from cancer a few years ago.

This has gotten rather melancholy for a Friday Lame Post, but I think it is important to remember friends.  So, a lexicographical note and a memory.  Sounds like a Friday post to me.

Be of Good Beer

Note to self: Do not go to the bowling alley for a beer with the guys after work.  Oh, it was fun, and the bowling alley has a very pleasant bar, but one beer easily turns into three when generous co-workers start buying rounds. It actually could have been four or five, but we passed our last upside down shot glasses over to guys with harder heads.  For feeling like a fatty so much of the time, I am kind of a lightweight when it comes to beer.

So here I am Saturday morning making my Lame Post Friday post.  We’ll, what could be more lame than my excuse for not making a post yesterday?  After all, I have been known to drink and type before.  Unfortunately, I have also been known to drink and fall asleep on the couch, which is what I did last night.

I must make a further note to myself to make my Saturday post sometime in the afternoon.  We have plans with our friends Jim, Phyllis, and Kim.  I can pretty much guarantee the wine will flow.

I guess I am showing myself as quite the lush.  It could be true, but I do not always over-indulge.  But when one is hanging out with friends and having a lot of laughs…  In other words, no promises.

Pre Reindeer Run Post

I had such high hopes of NOT having Lame Post Friday.  I don’t know why; I almost always do have Lame Post Friday,  and I often do not apologize for it.  At least, I have not exactly apologized yet.  However, that line about high hopes might be so construed.

No matter.  Blog posts must be made.  At least my blog posts by me.  I have several things I could make a blog post about.  I hope to make blog posts about them in the coming days.  For right now, though, I think I have used up all my oomph for the day.  All I can do right now is worry about the Reindeer Run 5K tomorrow.

The Reindeer Run 5K is part of the Christmas in Little Falls.  Many sales and events are part of the day.  I hope to participate in some of them after I run.  But first I must run.

Weather reports threaten rain but with warmish temperatures.  By warmish I mean 43 degrees.  45 is my cut off for shorts and short sleeves.  What are they giving me with this 43?  I mean, 45 is obviously an arbitrary cut off. One day I apparently ran in long sleeves and leggings, sweated, and decided it should have been short sleeves and shorts.  Was it 45 degrees?  I don’t remember!

So I shall spend the rest of my Friday night dithering.  Tomorrow I shall make my decision (spoiler alert: I am leaning towards shorts and short sleeves).  I may even write a blog post about it. As always, I hope you’ll stay tuned.
