Lame but Happy on Friday

Almost my sentiments.

Today is my first earned Friday in a long time.  I worked 40 hours.  Yes, yes, many folks worked more than 40 hours and I am sure many worked harder.  I bow to their superior dedication and motivation, and yet I feel that I have earned the glass of wine I am currently enjoying.

The picture above shows a picture our friend Tracy gave Steven for his birthday one year.  At the time, we all lived in the same town and went out almost every Friday night.  Steven and Tracy’s husband, Ron, worked at the same place, which had payday every other Friday.  Sometimes, they would come up with variations on TGIF.  Their favorite turned out to be Thank God It’s Friday And Pay Day.

I just now took that picture of the plaque.  Then I backed up and took a picture of the wall it is on, just because we have a lot of things on our wall.

I may need to take close-ups of some of these.

Steven and I spent some of our Friday sitting on our front porch.  It is lovely to be home with my beloved husband.  And yet, I will be delighted when it is safe again to go out and sit at a bar, enjoying my friends as well.

Like this!

Here are Tracy and I at the Waterfront Grille in Herkimer, NY.  Here’s hoping she can return one day soon for a repeat performance!

On the same visit.

And here is a picture of Tracy and Steven, taken the same day.

So this is my Lame Post Friday.  Happy memories of Friday’s past, hopes for happy Friday’s in the future.  That is a common theme these days.  However, I would like to say that today is a happy Friday, too.  I hope it also is for you.

Into Every Life, a Little Lame Will Fall

How fortunate that it is Lame Post Friday.  For one thing, I do not have much to say.  For another, I cannot find any of my styluses and am fat fingered typing.  Yes, my fingers are as fat as the rest of me.   Additionally, I have been drinking red wine. Don’t  judge me, it’s Friday night and I go back to work on Monday!   Oh, OK, judge me I don’t care.

Yes, I return to my place of employment on Monday.  Now days of the week will once again have meaning.  It will be fine.  After all, one needs to work for a living (one being me, of course).

That will count as my half-baked philosophy for the week.  As for my random observations,  it has just gotten dark, cloudy,  and windy outside.  Yikes!  Earlier it was warm and a trifle humid.  Steven and I sat on the front porch and enjoyed ourselves quite a bit.

So now I have fulfilled the requirements of Lame Post Friday:  random observations and half-baked philosophy.  If only I could think of a good headline, I would be reasonably content.   Hmmm… nothing is coming.  Oh well, as that great philosopher Mick Jagger said, You can’t always get what you want.

Incidentally, the weather is getting loud and threatening.  Yikes!

Crazy Old Lame

I was about to make my Friday Lame Post when I decided to mix things up a little with a few pictures.  Accordingly, I put on some better footwear and ventured outside. A couple of neighborhood kids were riding their scooters up and down the street. I stayed out of their way. However, looking at my reflection in my Tablet before I got to camera mode, I realized I was in full Crazy Old Lady regalia. I start, therefore, with the last picture I took, just to give us all a laugh.

This doesn’t even show my sweatpants and sandals!

Yes, I have quarantine hair. Regular readers may remember I was supposed to get shaved for a St. Baldrick’s fundraiser,  only it got cancelled when all the schools were closed.  I shall patiently wait for my favorite stylist at Hot Spot Salon and Spa in Herkimer.

But I digress.  The main thing I wanted was a picture of a tree on my street which is just starting to get leaves.  I love the delicate green color.

I’m afraid you can’t see the color very well.  I will have to try again when the light is different.  In the meantime, I got a few more pictures that are worth sharing.

Preview of Coming Attractions.

This will be a tulip, if it does not get eaten before it blooms.  I also took a picture of some peonies that are just sprouting.

I think all the green stuff is daisies.

Going out back in search of more photo ops, I tried to get a shot of the sky plus a couple more trees.

I like it.

Next to our garage are some pink flowers that are coming up nicely.

We originally purchased the plant at a garden show at the Herkimer House in Little Falls, NY

These flowers have inexplicably migrated across the lawn, so I took a picture of them too.

Even prettier close up, if you’ll pardon the dead leaves.

So this is my Friday post.  I feel a little pleased with myself and can only hope the neighbors do not judge my crazy old lady appearance too harshly.

Lame Laundry Observations

Even though the days blur one into the next, I cling to my Lame Friday Post.  For one reason, at least today I have an excuse.

Today I made a number of random observations, because I was sitting in my car outside the local laundromat, where I was washing towels and comforters.  The comforters needed a larger machine than mine, and the towels needed hot water, which my machine is not fond of.  I was writing a letter to a friend, and what better to write about than my fellow laundromat patrons.

I dubbed one guy Drew Carey, because he was heavy-set, had a crew cut, and wore geeky glasses.  He folded his laundry on the premises, which I know other laundramats frown upon, seemed to be doing his entire wardrobe,  and pulled his mask down under his chin.  I felt sympathetic regarding the middle observation, about the entire wardrobe, because I, too, used to wait until I was out of clean underwear.  Full disclosure:  sometimes I bought new.

Another observation was of a guy who I used to work with (no names!).  He did not wear a mask.  I always thought he was a big fat jerk.  But I try not to judge.

I noticed a lady with a long grey braid carrying in sheets of the same pattern I was washing.  A young-ish man (meaning he looked younger than me, at least) kept pulling his sweatpants up as he made trips between his pick-up truck and the laundramat.

My snarky comments continued, but the friend I was writing to might read my blog post, and I don’t like to spoil things for her.  Additionally, I see I am approaching 300 words,  so I hope that is sufficient for Lame Post Friday.  I hope to see you all on Saturday, whatever sort of post it turns out to be.

Not Useful But Perhaps Entertaining

Yes, my days are blurring one into another, as the Quackenbush Quarantine (as my husband Steven dubbed it) continues.  And yet I will indulge in Lame Post Friday.  For one reason, it is difficult to make a post that is not at least somewhat lame these days.  If I was a more talented and imaginative writer, my posts would be better, and here we come to the ugly truth about me.

But never mind that.  Let me just make a blog post and try to be as entertaining as possible while I do it.

Quarantine hair and turkey neck, what’s a blogger to do?

This morning I tried to make a mask from a sock, using a recipe I got from Facebook.  I was not impressed with my results, but of course I took a picture, for the amusement of others.  I may not be a particularly useful sort of person, but at least I am good for a laugh.

At least I am trying to do something to shield my fellow human beings from whatever germs I may have.  I try to stay home as much as possible and to keep my distance when I do go out.  But this is nothing new and entertaining to add to my Lame Friday Post.  What can I add in the categories of random observations and half-baked philosophy?

I guess I got nuthin’. This is nothing unusual.  However, I am over 200 words.  A lame post is best kept short.  Will I come up with something better for Saturday?  Time will tell.  Time is certainly a blabbermouth (a joke I have made before,  but I am rather proud of it).  Happy Friday, all.

Pre 5K Post?

Yes, I am making my Friday post early Saturday, morning.  I just couldn’t make  Lame Post Friday post on Good Friday.  I imagine I have done so before, but of course I am too lazy to go back and check.  Additionally rendering Lame Post Friday inappropriate,  I do not go back to work on Monday after all.  Did I mention that on Thursday?  That is when I found out (again, too lazy to go back and check).

On the not so lazy side, after I publish this, I shall go running.  I hope to do a virtual 5K, sponsored by Rock City Runners of Little Falls, NY.  I may have mentioned this before:  I register  on Run Sign Up Dot Com, pay $10, which benefits Little Falls Food Pantry; run 5Ks all on my own, and upload my results… somewhere.

The uploading is what mystifies me.  Upload what where?  Type 38:52 into… some website?  I pulled that number out of the ambient air as a guess as to how long it will take me to run 5Ks.  I feel quite foolish and ignorant,  but that’s me,  an ignorant  fool.

Never mind.  I am approaching 200 words and the bottom of my coffee cup.  Let’s get this dog and pony show on the road (of course I do not run as fast as either of those nice animals).  I may not know how to upload results, but I can write a blog post about them. As always, I hope you’ll stay tuned.

There’s Always Someone

As time loses all meaning for some of us, I make bold to have my usual Lame Post Friday.  For one reason, I return to work Monday, so Friday will once again mean something.  Not as much as it once meant, with bars and restaurants closed, and wine tastings cancelled at the local liquor store.

Oh dear, that sounded like whining about what is really a very small inconvenience to me, all things considered.  I can just hear people gearing up to say things like, “First world problems,” or, ” It’s better than catching the coronavirus,”  or the dreaded, “Just be thankful that…(you have a job, you can order take-out, the liquor store is open, etc).”  Here is a not so random observation:  it is really difficult to say anything without it being the wrong thing to say according to to someone.

Anyways, I will still be in a time warp next week, because I have Good Friday off.  And what a weird Easter we are all going to have!  At least, those of us who mark the holiday.  I am going to count that as another random observation.

If I could come up with some half-baked philosophy,  this would be a complete Friday Lame Post.  For that, I hark back to my first observation.  It is always wrong according to someone.  It is never enough, according to someone.  So there is no point in worrying if we are good enough.

As I typed that, I was assailed by the thought that this blog post is not good enough, even for Lame Post Friday.  Alas, the thought came from me.  Does that make me someone?  Discuss amongst yourselves.

Addendum:  Apparently I am not going back to work till Monday the 13th.  But I’ll let this post stand, because, well, I’ve already gotten a couple of Likes on it.  You know what a Like junky I am.

Lame Pictures, Lame Post

This will not be a typical Lame Post Friday post.  For one reason, it is not a typical Friday,  a phenomenon being experienced by many of us.  In fact,  I daresay most of us, because even if you are at work, things are hardly typical.  But why am I telling us what we already know and are tired of thinking about?  My bad.  On with the post.

Can you see the buds?

When I took my walk to the post office, I brought my Tablet but did not think I would take any pictures.  After all, I can’t post about my walk every day, can I?  No, really, do you think I can?  Then I saw buds on some trees and tried to get a picture.  Perhaps I should have zoomed in.

Again, I should have zoomed in.

My own crocuses have not appeared, but I took a picture of somebody else’s.

Dammit, you can’t see the buds here either!

This is a magnolia tree which will look magnificent as the season progresses. I’ll make sure to take another picture then.  Next, I crossed the street to try to get a picture of some little white flowers.  I must learn the names of these things.

Oh dear, another one that looked better in real life.

I think I must up my picture-taking game.  On the other hand, I’m going to consider this OK for Lame Post Friday.  Yes, times are atypical, yet I will still take advantage of the calendar.  Happy Friday,  all.

Sorry, But I’m Not Apologizing

I guess we all knew this was going to be a Wrist to Forehead Sunday post.  I went running this morning yet did not feel a Running Commentary post welling up within me. Likewise, no amount of movie watching has made me inclined for a Sunday Cinema post.  These things happen, I suppose.

The fact is, I feel not the slightest obligation to apologize for a foolish post during this stressful time.  Clearly, to run around having Mohawk Valley adventures would be irresponsible.   I am more than willing to risk my own health.   Alas, as is so often the case,  it is not only about me.

So shall I spend the next week or two hiding behind the Corona Virus (or as I prefer to call it, Covid 19) and posting only the lamest material?  That could happen.  I maintain it is the right thing to do, because some people are entertained by my nonsense, and entertainment is a definite service in times of quarantine.

Of course I will attempt to publish the most amusing posts possible.  I fear not much is possible today,  hence my Wrist to Forehead status.  On the other hand,  I am having a fairly enjoyable Sunday.  One cannot have everything.  Even if I have a dreadful day, I will strive to have a better blog post tomorrow.

Porch Sitting Preview

The Mohawk Valley really warmed up today, with highs close to 70!  Steven and I actually sat on our front porch for a while.  I took a few pictures.

I LOVE grey skies!

We did not know how long we would be able to sit out, because ominous storm clouds were moving in.

These are even better!

As I moved off the porch to get this shot, I reassured a couple of kids playing soccer that I was photographing the sky, not them.  They were not too worried about it.  Then Steven said, “Take a picture of the soccer players!”  I asked them, and they said OK.

They had some pretty good moves, but I was unable to capture any.

We enjoyed sitting watching the clouds move in and the kids play soccer.

The porch roof kind of blocks this one.

The clouds moved in further…

And further!

Eventually it started raining.  We kept sitting on the porch, even when the rain blew in on us.  We did not get too wet. Then it stopped raining, and we felt vindicated.  When the wind started to feel a little chilly, we came back inside.

It was wonderful to sit on the porch in warm temperatures.  The weekend is supposed to be cold, but we know the overall trend will be warm.  Come on, spring!
