Just Writing Another Late Post

Yes, I did it again.  I failed to make my blog post on the day intended.  That’s two days in a row I did that,  although I suppose regular readers noticed that. I am going through a really rotten writing period (oh how I wished I could think of a word with an “r” sound to be alliterative!).

The answer, of course,  is to Write, Just Write. If I can’t write one thing, I can try something else, as long as I am getting words on paper or screen. So here I am, getting words on screen.  Good words?  Entertaining words?  I don’t ask for miracles.  I just write.

I scrolled through my Media Library twice looking for these pictures

We had a very nice Sunday with deck sitting before it rained followed by a few good movies.  We had a mini Judith Anderson film festival, with And Then There Were None and Laura. Then we continued the murder theme with Columbo.  We only have one season of on DVD.  I would like to have the entire series.

I don’t remember this shot from the movie, but it is a good picture of Anderson.

This one is from Laura..

I always say this is the real love story in the picture, and I don’t think I spoil anything by saying that, in case you never saw the movie. By the way, if you never saw the movie, I highly recommend it.

Sorry, no pictures of Columbo,  although I thought I had one.  Anyways, this will have to do for my Sunday post.  On the brighter side, for me at any rate, this is a three day weekend.  Will I get anything useful done?  Will I have a Mohawk Valley adventure?  Will I make my Monday post on Monday?  For the answers to these and other questions,  stay tuned to Mohawk Valley Girl.

Scatterbrained on Scattered Saturday

I completely forgot to make my blog post yesterday.  I have no excuse, or at least none I am going to offer. Instead, I sit here Sunday morning, typing away (one letter at a time with the stylus, because it is just so much more comfortable on the couch), and hoping, as usual, for the best.

I went for a long run yesterday morning, almost an hour.  I do love a long run, because I have a better chance of getting a dose of those endorphins I hear so much about.  I did not seem to get any yesterday, but at least I felt pleased with myself for running so long.  I was thinking about running the Falling Leaves 14K in Utica later on in September.  Right now I am re-thinking it, but we’ll see how I feel after today’s run.

After the run I did a load of laundry, which I hung out on the line.  That and the run were my only accomplishments of the day. However, as my husband Steven and I lounged on the deck, as we did for a considerable amount of time,  it was nice to watch the clothes flap in the breeze.

Eventually we went to Salvatore’s, one of our favorites,  for something to eat.  Back home, we watched a couple of movies.

Hmm… I guess we did not do enough to qualify for a true Scattered Saturday. Oh well, you’ll have that, especially when it’s me we’re talking about.  I must get this published, late as it is, and get on with my Sunday.

Am I Lame? Or Just a Lush?

Ah yes, Lame Post Friday (why did my predictive text thingy not offer me “Post Friday” when I typed in “Lame”?  I’m just asking). I have had a long-ish week.  Not as bad as some, not as onerous as others, and I am SO ready for a three day weekend!  OF COURSE  I am grateful for said weekend.  I KNOW some people do not get one.  For heaven’s sake, I used to be one of those people,  get off my back about the gratitude already!  Sheesh!

Where was I?  Ah yes sitting on my deck, trying to make some semblance of a blog post before the wine really kicks in and I fall asleep.   Don’t judge me.

We started our evening at a wine tasting at Valley Wine and Liquor in Herkimer, NY.  So fun!  I would in fact like to write a whole blog post about it so will say no more now.  After sipping some wine we  went to the End Zone Pub and Grub on North Main Street, where we had some more wine and a little food.

There is not much else to tell about my Friday.  Only that my predictive text thingy does not seem to be offering such responsive suggestions as it has in the past.  I really must get back to ten-fingered typing.  In the meantime, this will have to do for this week’s Lame Friday Post.   I hope you are all having a delightful start to your weekend.

Dressing Up For Throw Back Thursday

How about a Throw Back Thursday post?  For one reason, I am once again brain dead.  Full disclosure: I had a moment earlier when I considered waiting till tomorrow morning to make today’s post.  However, as I wait for my husband to NICELY fix dinner (he is such a keeper!), I thought, I can do this.

I would look so good in that dress.

I went to the first month I used pictures in this blog and picked this one.  It was a costume display outside of Boscov’s at Sangertown Mall in New Hartford, NY.  We don’t get out that way very often, but this was definitely worth the trip.

We were ACTING!

Since it is currently August, I went to August 2017 and found this wonderful cast photo from Shakespeare’s The Tempest, as performed by LiFT, the Little Falls Theatre Company.  I’m the one in the purple cape and yellow tights. I just love a colorful costume.

This was a post-parade pic.

Going to August 2018, I found this gem, actually taken in July 2018.  It is a member of LiFT  who participated in the Canal Days Parade in Little Falls, NY. She was also in  The Tempest,  a truly delightful young actress.

A more recent picture.

This last photo only throws back to July 2019.  I was looking for something with more costumes, and came across some shots of Ilion Little Theatre at the Doodah Parade,  which was part of the Ilion Days festivities.

I hope you have enjoyed my stroll (or was it more of a hop scotch?) down Memory Lane.  I personally am looking forward to my next opportunity to put on a costume.  I hope somebody will take a  picture that I can include in a blog post.

Monsters But Very Little Brain

Since Monstrous Monday did not work out, I thought I would indulge in some Mid-Week Monsters.  At least it will not be a Wuss-out Wednesday post.

I love the side-eye.

I open with a shot from The Brain That Wouldn’t Die,  as an ironic comment on the fact that my brain has apparently died.  I blame allergy season.  Yet I hope to bestir my meager brain to some activity, since I have a murder mystery to finish writing (preview of coming attractions).

I like to think I’m one of them.

This is not exactly a monster, except by the axiom that people are the worst monsters, but it seemed appropriate since I just mentioned my murder mystery.  A new season of Deadly Women  starts soon.  I am looking forward to it.

Isn’t she hot?

Here is a deadly woman as well as a monster of the human variety.  It is our friend, Ellen McQueeney in Amy Fisher: The Musical.  This was back in the 1990’s.  We did not see the show but were delighted that Steven’s former classmate starred (please note: NOT his “old classmate”).

THIS is the size of brain I need!

I wanted to end with a monster of the monster variety and was lucky enough to come across The Brain From Planet Arous.  So I begin and end with a brain, having written this entire post without particularly using mine.  See what I did there?

Short and Thunky

I had two wonderful long runs this past weekend.  Did I write a Running Commentary post about either one? NO!!!  I had a short, thunky run this afternoon.  Get ready for a short, thunky running commentary post.

The easiest thing to do after working all day is to talk yourself put of running.  However, I did not indulge in such craven behavior today but went straight upstairs to put on running clothes as soon as I got home.  I was going to run my usual weekday run: left on German Street to Caroline, then down Caroline, up Margaret, and down Henry for as long as I can stand it before going up Bellinger to home.  I confess that sometimes I do not get very far down Henry at all.

I really did want to run today,  because Saturday’s and Sunday’s runs had felt SO good.  I thought I had my running mojo back and everything was going to be great.  In fact,  I was not particularly surprised to find out I was wrong about that. What do I think I am, a gazelle?  Of course not. I am an overweight middle-aged lady with creaky bones and a bad attitude.

However, one thing I can do is persevere.  At least for a while.  Right away my run felt thunky.  I felt chunky.  And not very spunky.  Sorry, folks, I just felt like throwing in a couple of rhymes just then.

As I reached Caroline,  I realized I did not want to do the run I had set out to do. Traffic was with me, so I crossed Caroline.  I would run to the end of Caroline, which loops around. I would follow the loop.  Full disclosure:  I did not know how long I would be able to persevere.  I had not set out with a definite goal of how long to run. Naturally I hoped that I would hit the I Can Rock This stage and enjoy a medium or even a long run.  I do not ask myself for miracles.

And I did not get miracles.  I did not even get to rock this.  However, by virtue of making a couple of strategic turns, I managed to run for 22 minutes.  I call that not bad for a Tired Tuesday.  And I am over 350 words.  I call that not bad for a Tired Tuesday post.

Scenes from Saturday

Here’s a peaceful view.

I was going to do a Monstrous Monday post but accidentally hit Upload Files instead of Media Library.  So here is a picture I took from the deck at Newport Marketplace on Saturday.

A little too much sun, I’m afraid.

While at the Marketplace,  a gentleman recommended we check out the Newport Town Tavern.  It was right down the road, so why not?

Kim and Steven, enjoying a beverage.

We only stayed for one, but it was a very pleasant stop. Our first stop in Newport had been the Main Street Ristorante and Gift Shop, where we had a nice lunch before browsing the shop.

We had fun here too.

Just to include all of Saturday in this post, I will mention that before we left Herkimer we stopped by Valley Wine and Liquor for a wine tasting.

It was a nice little display.

In addition to wine, Kim and I sampled some hard lemonade.

Kim and the lemonade lady.

I cannot find the notebook where I noted the name of the lady pouring the lemonade.  The lady pouring the wine declined to be photographed.

So this is my post.  A few disjointed sentences about some random photos.  I’m going to call it a Muddled Monday and drive on.  As always, thank you for participating.

I Drank and Typed

Sunday, Sunday. Nobody will mind if I make a foolish post on Sunday.  For one thing, I can call it Wrist to Forehead Sunday.  I am not, in fact, feeling particularly Wrist to Forehead-y at the moment.   I have been relaxing, enjoying a beverage of questionable moral fiber, and I am most inclined to make yet another foolish post.

We are watching Hush, Hush.., Sweet  Charlotte, one of up our favorites of the psycho biddy genre.

Steven is just about ready to fall asleep.  I personally am ready to stretch put and close my eyes.  This hardly matters. The point is to enjoy enough of a movie tonight to be part of a fun evening.

I do enjoy to watch a movie that I have previously been told NOT to watch.  I do not always do it in a case where I have been told NOT to watch. As it happens, right now, I am enjoying some scenes of a movie we were not supposed to watch.

That was as far as I got last night. It all makes sense to me except for the part about being told not to watch a movie.  Who ever told me NOT to watch Hush…Hush, Sweet Charlotte (I’m not sure where the … goes and I am too lazy to check)?  Bette Davis, Agnes Moorehead, Cecil Kellaway… there could be no possible objection!

I imagine there could be an objection to this blog post, but I offer no excuse.  I must get on with my Monday.

Scattered or Slacker? Who Knows or Cares?

OK, this will be a Slacker Saturday post, because it is late in the day, and I do not want to be another post behind.

I am sitting on my deck, relaxed and happy. Steven and I had a delightful day with our friend Kim. We went to a wine tasting at Valley Wine and Liquor in Herkimer, to lunch at the Main Street Ristorante and Gift Shop in Newport, to shop at Newport Marketplace, then for a drink at Newport Town Tavern.

After that  we returned to Steven’s and my house, where we sat on the deck and chatted some more about upcoming murder mysteries, among other topics.  We had a delightful time, as always with Kim.

After Kim departed to fulfill other commitments,  Steven and I adjourned to our living room, where we watched Curse of the Blair Witch .followed by The Blair Witch Project.  I am SO ready for the Halloween movie watching portion of the year.

I see I am NOT up to 200 words.  It will have to do for a Slacker Saturday.
