Too Busy to Blog?

So yesterday was a Wuss-out Wednesday,  blog-wise.  I went for a walk in the morning and a run in the afternoon.  I had a Mohawk Valley Adventure of going to Fratello’s Pizzeria in Frankfort for music and food.  And I took some pictures of crocuses in my back yard.

But I did not make a blog post about any of it.  What the hell, me?

Now it is Thursday morning, and I contemplate the coming day with dread.  How’s that for a little bit of melodrama?  I need to get over myself.  Never mind, let’s get on with the blog post.

I knew it wouldn’t be a great picture, but I had to try.

On my morning walk, I admired the full moon.  Full disclosure:  I like to see the moon at whatever phase it is in.

I love to see them every year!

I felt the need to take pictures of all the crocuses that were there.  It occurred to me that some people might shame me for it (you know who you are): “We all know what a crocus looks like.  We see them every year.”  Like how some people don’t want to keep seeing pictures of the snow.  I can’t worry about those people now.

They were awesome.

This is the new to me band I heard at Fratello’s:  Gridley Paige Naked and Scared.  I loved them.

So once again I give you a blog post about what I could have written a blog post about.  At least it was over 200 words.

Monday Mosey

I think I have used that title before.  However, I took a few pictures while walking earlier so I thought a Pedestrian Post with Pictures would be nice.  Just a little change from Monstrous Monday.

The main reason I wanted to walk was to mail a letter I forgot to take with me when I left the house this morning.  I thought if I brought it to the post office by five it would still go out today.  Additionally, I was going to meet my friend Kim for a libation.  We both had kind of a rough day and wanted to commiserate.

After some commiseration and conversation at the End Zone Pub in Herkimer, she went on to a meeting, and I walked home.  When I had first set out, I had thought I might take a couple of pictures but encountered no photo ops.  On the way home, however, I noticed some snowdroos.

Pretty!

I think there are some white violets in the shot as well.  I do love flowers.

Preview of Coming Attractions.

When I passed Basloe Library I noticed some green poking up.  I look forward to seeing them grow and bloom.

Two handsome buildings.

As I continued up Main Street, I was struck by the Episcopal Church  (now sadly closed) and the Herkimer County Court House.  The latter is part of my beloved Herkimer Historic Four Corners.  The picture does not quite do them justice, but I tried.

It was a pleasant little walk.  I took a slightly longer walk before work this morning, but the lighting was not so good for pictures then.  I do enjoy a walk, and I hope my reader’s enjoy reading about it.  Once again, thank you for tuning in.

An Unexpected Walk

Yesterday I left the house about twenty minutes before five with a plan to go shopping then to Fratello’s for food and music (it was Wednesday, guess I’m back to my Wednesday night thing), and I said, “Oh no.  It is too beautiful out.  Go for a walk, Cindy.  Even a short walk. Go for a walk.”

I did not have to work very hard to convince myself.  I locked the bag with my notebook and Tablet (I try never to go anywhere without a notebook) in the car and went back inside for my Garmin (I figured I might as well track the walk and record it in the Fitness Journal).  I kept my phone with me so I could take a few pictures along the way.

I was soon sorry I had not changed into better sneakers.  I was wearing a pair of the little canvas ones that are oh so cute but offer no support.  I further realized I was not even wearing a matched pair.  You see, I have several pairs because I used to buy them whenever they went on sale at K-mart (autocorrect does not recognize K-mart as a word. Sad!), and they get mixed up.  Both sneaks were blue, but one was clearly more worn than the other.  Never mind, just keep walking.

This one didn’t turn out so good,

I knew there were snowdrops on a yard down the street, because I had seen them when I was running.  Full disclosure:  I did not know they were called snowdrops.  My mom told me when I referred to “those little white flowers.”

I quite agree.

Not a flower, but a good sign I felt like sharing.  I must get down to Basloe Library and get one for my front lawn.

My favorite!

I was quite jealous when I saw somebody else’s crocuses were blooming.  I saw some tiny green shoots in my own yard, so I hold out hopes for my own.

I enjoyed my walk very much and look forward to more, with more spring growth!

I Guess I’m on the Cusp

It seems I am no longer a daily blogger.  I do not like that.  I like to be a daily blogger.  With that in mind, I am sitting at my dining-room-table-top on Friday morning, hoping to make a Throwback Thursday post.  Then later today I can make a Lame Post Friday post, and go on from there.  I have a recent history of dropping the ball on weekends, so we shall see.  A little suspense adds interest to my week.

So pretty!

I throw back to November 2016 and a lovely bouquet sent to me by my husband, Steve.  He recently sent me another bouquet, but I have neither my cell phone nor my Tablet handy to take a picture, and anyways, that would not be much of a throwback, being just earlier this week.  Then again, some people feel 2016 is not so long ago either.  I cannot deal with these deep questions so early in the morning.

So sweet!

Another picture from 2016:  our sweet, dearly missed poocher, Spunky.  I was watching the National Dog Show yesterday and simply longing for another dog of my own.

Time to be merry!

Let me take a break from melancholy with a Christmas muppet picture.  I feel Thanksgiving is a fitting start to the Christmas season, with Santa Claus anchoring the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.  One of my favorite Christmas movies, Miracle on 34th Street, begins on Thanksgiving.  I happened to catch that movie recently.  I am ready to feel Christmasy, are you?

I hope everybody had a lovely Thanksgiving, by the way.   As for this blog post, I am going to bill it as a Non-Sequitur Thursday, seeing as I am having Throwback Thursday on Friday morning, and I cannot decide between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Flowers for a Blog Post?

As Saturday grinds on (not as grindingly as work days do, obviously), I wonder if I  have the wherewithal to make a Scattered Saturday or even a Slacker Saturday Post.  We shall see.

One anecdote I thought to include occurred to me on this morning’s run.  Full disclosure: it was neither as long nor as strenuous a run as I have done recently.  One does what one can, which is often less than others may deem one is capable of, but that is not what I meant to write about this evening.

As I ran along German Street in Herkimer, NY this morning, I stopped ever so briefly to pick up a bright yellow marigold blossom with mere inches of stem attached.   One sometimes encounters broken-off flowers of this sort.  I like to pick them  up when I can.

It reminded me of a time when I picked up a lily blossom.  I thought as I ran on that if things got to be too much for me, I could lie down with the lily resting on my chest, making a tableau.  I was not forced to resort to such measures but found a dime to pick up as I ran on.  When I got home, I handed the flower and the coin to my husband, Steven, saying, “Could you trim the stem of this lily and put it in some water?   Here’s a dime for your troubles.”

I confess to being highly amused with myself.  Today I handed the marigold to Steven with a similar request but had no tip for him.  Sometimes he is a rather ill-used husband.

And that is my Saturday blog post for this week.  It may not be such a much, but at least I did it on Saturday.  And no, I do not expect flowers for such a feat!

Where Would I Have Walked?

I thought that instead of making a Tired Tuesday post, I would take a nice walk, take some pictures, and do a Pedestrian, such as I have not done in a while.  Unfortunately, it started raining just as I was about to start my walk.  It has not stopped yet.  There is every chance I will take a walk in the morning, but it will still be dark, making pictures ineligible (I’ve tried).  Perhaps I could share a few pictures from previous walks and talk about where I would like to walk to next time.

Graveyards are always interesting.

Here is a picture from August 2020, taken at my beloved Herkimer Historic Four Corners.  It is Herkimer Reformed Church.  I am fascinated by the graveyard.  Old gravestones are always so evocative.  Many of my walks and runs do take me by the Historic Four Corners.

I love a grey sky!

Here is my own neighborhood in August 2021, on an evening similar to tonight.  This picture, of course, was taken before the storm.  If I had gone for my walk earlier, I might have taken such a picture today.  However, it is a useless exercise to pine for what might have been.

I think it is looking a little worse these days.

This picture is from August 2018.  I often walk or run on Washington Street and see this former school.  I am always so sad to see a building go to waste.  Wouldn’t it be nice if somebody bought it and made it into something fun, like an arts center or antique mall?  I have neither the wherewithal nor the business expertise for such a project.  I don’t even know if the building is in good enough shape for any use, but it is fun to speculate.

Pretty!

I close with a picture from my own backyard in August 2018.  The Black-Eyed Susans are still there, although there are some other uninvited  plants growing there as well.  Perhaps I can get a picture of them tomorrow.  I would also like to cut a few to put in a vase in my house.

In the meantime, I am over 300 words and hope my readers have been at least mildly entertained.  I hope to go for a real blogging walk soon.

More Weekend Walking

Here is Day Two of Pictures Taken On My Walk.  I took another walk this morning but did not take any further pictures.  So under the heading Waste Not Want Not, I share a few more taken yesterday.

Is it the first or the last?

The lone Black-eyed Susan appealed to me.  I saw some other patches with more blooms, so I don’t know if this one is just getting started or just ending.  My own Black-eyed Susans have not done much this year, but my whole yard is kind of a lost cause.  Let us not dwell on such depressing topics.

Pretty!

I am try to be circumspect when taking pictures of other people’s yards.  You know, not include identifying things such as numbers or names. Therefore, I was happy to get this shot of just flowers.  Of course, Google Maps shows no such compunction, but I am no Google (cue jokes about my googly eyes).  But I love these colorful blooms.

Lots of flowers!

On the uncultivated side, we have these.  I first tried to get a shot of a lone Morning Glory but could not get a good angle so went for the profusion of… whatever these are.

I do enjoy my weekend walks, when the sun is up and I can admire flowers.  Additionally, sometimes people are walking their dogs.  I like to pet a dog.  Tomorrow I am back to walking in the dark.  However, I still have a few more unused pictures from Saturday.  As always, I hope you’ll tune in.

Wayback Walk after Wuss-Out?

So yesterday was a true Wuss-out Wednesday as I neglected to post at all. In my defense, shut up, explanations are tiresome. I am sitting at the dining-room-tabletop prior to five Thursday morning, and my main feeling is gratitude for coffee. I went for a half-hour walk so am torn between making a Pedestrian Post and a Way-back Wednesday Post. Since I would like to retain the option of making a Throwback Thursday Post later, I shall attempt the former.

I do love flowers.

Full disclosure: I still have not upgraded my WordPress account so cannot add new pictures. Here is one from a walk I took in July 2017, making this a Way-Back Wednesday as well as a Pedestrian Post. This is the extent of my ability to multi-task (unless cleaning my oven while I sleep is still a thing) (older readers get that). Fuller disclosure: I did not see this on this morning’s walk, although I did walk by this building. For one reason, it was still dark. However, if I had troubled to look, I could probably report on whether the purple flowers are there once again. I did not. Judge me if you are so inclined.

Teehee!

Here is a funny from a walk in July 2018. It was actually a cool-down walk after a run, just to make me feel a little sad to remember I have not been running since May. I found it on the sidewalk and took it home, taking this picture, because it amused me so much. I told my husband Steve it was probably for him, and his girlfriend had left it there for me to deliver.

I see I have not yet said anything about today’s walk. Oh well, it wasn’t such a much anyways, and I am almost at 300 words (that sentence put it over). I feel oddly pleased with this post, but perhaps I flatter myself. No matter. It’s time to get myself a little more coffee.

PS. Now it is 5 a.m.

Thank You, Media Library

I shall try for another Throwback Thursday Post, hoping for some cooperation from my Media Library.

A note of hope!

Here is a cheerful picture: a crocus in my yard in 2018. I had a few crocuses in my backyard, before the Monday/Tuesday nor’easter hit. Tuesday afternoon, after I took my walk, I spied a lone purple crocus in my front yard, defying the snow. I took a picture with my phone, which, alas, I am unable to share at the current time.

Scary tree?

Another view from 2018: Frankentree in our front yard. He is even bigger and more monstrous now, but there is considerably less snow.

Now this is a scary tree!

This is the tree which dropped a major portion of itself on the power line, causing the outage which enlivened (or made hideous) our Tuesday/Wednesday. Thanks a lot, tree! I always liked you!

These will cheer me up!

I usually content myself with three pictures, but I wanted to end with flowers. The daisies will not arrive for a while yet, but I hope they grow in a similar profusion when they do.

I guess some would say 2018 is not throwing back very far. Then again, sometimes last week seems a very long time ago and second grade feels like yesterday. What’s that all about? A question, perhaps, for Lame Post Friday. As always, I hope you’ll stay tuned.
