Heelpath and End Zone

He’s a handsome fellow.

On a recent Saturday afternoon, Steven and I hit a couple of local watering holes.  We started at Heelpath Brewing Company at the Frankfort Marina.  I keep thinking I will do a pint or a flight of draft beer, seeing as it is a brewery, after all.  Then I order Rustic Ridge Winery Untamed Red, because yum.  Steven got Untamed White.

“What shall we drink to?”  I asked.

“How about that elf?”  Steven suggested.

“That’s a troll,” I said.  We drank to it, and I took a picture of it.

As you can see, the Christmas decorations were still up.

After enjoying a glass or two of wine as well as some good conversation with the bartender and other patrons, Steven and I drove back to Herkimer.  We still felt like being out and about so stopped at the End Zone Pub and Grub.

The bartender whose name escapes me.

We had a great conversation about wine with the bartender.  Of course we sipped a little wine while we talked. I thought I had made a note of the bartenders name, but I can’t remember which notebook I had at the time.  Before we left we took a picture of two nice young ladies we were also chatting with.

I don’t remember their names either.

Incidentally, this is the post I started to write five days ago and just could not finish.  I don’t know that the final version was worth waiting for, but at least the picture of the troll is cute.

Pre-Christmas Breakfast Out

Yes, I’m still thinking about Christmas.

In the midst of our pre-Christmas gyrations, Steven and I found time for breakfast at The Knight Spot in Frankfort, NY.  We had a tasty meal, and I took a couple of pictures of their Christmas decorations.

Here’s Steven, all happy and no longer hungry.

I had a breakfast sandwich on a hard roll with bacon, egg and cheese.  Steven had eggs over medium with bacon and rye toast.  He gave me a piece of his bacon.  We both enjoyed coffee.

The highlight of the visit for me was the decoration in the bathroom, a figurine of Santa Claus in an outhouse.  I made sure to get a picture.

Who doesn’t love Santa on the potty?

We do not go out to breakfast as often as we used to when we both worked retail hours.  I miss that but not enough to go back into retail.  I will enjoy the day off breakfasts out that I get, though!

The Knight Spot is located at 264 E. Main St., Frankfort, NY, phone number 315-894-4054.  They are open 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday,  7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.  They are great for lunch and dinner as well.

Run, Shop, Drink, It’s Scattered Saturday!

I have had a WONDERFUL day, and I will now attempt to make a Scattered Saturday post about it.  I have a number of pictures to share, so if my words are less than wonderful, I am certain my readers will forgive me.

This picture courtesy of Steve.

This is me finishing the Reindeer Run 5K in Little Falls, about a step behind Santa Claus. I think I may have been able to pour it on a little more and beaten the kid, but I did not try.  Perhaps if I had tried I would have failed.  But it was a fun run.

Love those alpacas!

The Reindeer Run was part of Christmas in Little Falls.  After I had showered at the YMCA and had a good breakfast at Il Caffe, we did some shopping.  My favorite stop was at Paca Gardens.

My photos here came out a little blurry.

After shopping, we were fortunate enough to catch a performance of a puppet play of “A Christmas Carol.”  It was awesome! We loved it!

A zombie nutcracker?

Later on we went to a wine tasting at Valley Wine and Liquor in Herkimer,  NY.  I took a few pictures of their holiday decorations,  which I hope to share in a later post.

Steven was the only one who deigned to smile.

After the tasting, we went for a couple of drinks at Heelpath Brewing Company at the Frankfort Marina.  It was fun!

I have not gone onto depth on any of our activities today, but perhaps future blog posts can fill in the gaps.  In the meantime,  Happy Saturday,  everyone!

Great Music, Great Food!

Yesterday at work, I noticed a co-worker’s t-shirt read, “Support local music.”  I thought that was definitely something Mohawk Valley Girl should do.  What I didn’t know was that opportunity awaited me that very night!

I had suggested another shop and dine evening, with the dinner part at Fratello’s Pizzeria in Frankfort,  NY.  When I got home from work, Steven told me Phil Arcuri was playing there from 6 to 8 p.m. Perfect!

We sat at the bar, right across from where Phil was going to play, and ordered wine and food.  I got angel hair pasta with a meatball.  Steven got the shrimp basket with fries. Yum! We both brought leftovers home, and I am really looking forward to eating mine!

He is a great musician!

Arcuri plays great tunes from the ’60’s and ’70’s.  I chair danced to most of them and sang along with the ones I knew the words to.  I was not the only one singing along.

Another angle.

I took a few pictures of Arcuri, but I did not manage to catch his smile.  It is a pleasure to watch such a talented musician who is so obviously enjoying himself.  I’m sure everyone there was having fun.

My delightful date for the evening.

I took a picture of Steven.  He tried to take one of me, but the Tablet would not cooperate.  I finally managed to take an ussie (I’m better at ussies than selfies, but not really good at either).

I guess we don’t look too bad.

We had a wonderful time.  I look forward to the next time we hear Phil Arcuri, and to our next great meal at Fratello’s.

Fratello’s Pizzeria is located at 158 E. Main St., Frankfort, NY, phone number 315-894-8484.  They are open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday.  You can follow them on Facebook to find out when Phil Arcuri is going to be there again!

Scattered and Slacker Saturday

A pause in my Saturday gyrations to make a Scattered Saturday post.  I went for a run this morning,  thinking to do a Saturday Running Commentary post.  It was a pretty good run.  I am looking forward to the Reindeer Run 5K in December in Little Falls NY. But I need to do Running Commentary posts sooner after the run.

Later in the morning, Steven and I went to a Craft Fair at the Ilion- Frankfort VFW, sponsored by the Ladies of the Moose, who no longer have a lodge.  We returned later with our friend Kim.  There was also a stop at Stuff the Bus, a drink at the End Zone Pub and Grub and some wine tasting at Valley Wine and Liquor, all in Herkimer.

Well, this is what happens sometimes on a Saturday (oh, OK, other days as well).  I am too tired to make a decent blog post.  I want to get on with the bra off, sweats on, wine drinking, movie watching, couch sitting, knitting or crocheting portion of the evening.  Is that too much to ask?  Perhaps it is.  No matter.  For what it is worth, this is my post for the day.  I hope you will all tune in tomorrow.

Murder, Wine, Just Another Scattered Saturday

I shall attempt a Scattered Saturday post,  but no promises. I am still tired and shaken after what turned out to be a wonderful theatre experience with Fabulous and Fatal, our murder mystery at the Travel Lodge in Little Falls to benefit the Herkimer County Historical Society.

Quite frankly, I expected to wake up hung over.  However, I did not, and remembering how much I actually drank, that is not surprising. I nursed my Cabernet Sauvignon, because I was performing.  Incidentally,  the performance went awesomely.  I will write more about it when I have some pictures to share.

This morning I went for a run.  Later we had some breakfast at Mona’s in Mohawk.  Later yet we went to a wine tasting at Valley Wine and Liquor in Herkimer.  Yum!  Then it was a quick trip to the Marina in Frankfort, NY and a drink or two at Heelpath Brewing Company.  Untamed Red by Rustic Ridge Winery in Burlington Flats.  Yum!

Now we are home, having arrived at the bra off, sweats on, wine drinking, movie watching portion of the day.  What Halloween movies will we watch?  I may list them tomorrow, having a Saturday and Sunday Cinema post.  As always,  no promises,  but I hope you will all stay tuned.

Lots of Stuff on Scattered Saturday

Ah yes, I must make a blog post today. I think I can manage a Scattered Saturday post.

We slept in till a little after six.  Full disclosure: I spent a good deal of early morning time wishing I could sleep, but I got in a couple of REM cycles.

I ate some breakfast and did a load of laundry before I went for a short run.  On the run I got inspired to decorate our porch by looking at other folks porches. However, before doing anything to my own porch, I went to a rummage sale at Mohawk Reformed Church.

After helping my husband, Steve, hang lights and get our witch and ghost set up (we want to put out further decorations,  but this was enough for day one), I went to the New 2 You Consignment Store in Ilion, NY.  I found a fabulous dress for our upcoming murder mystery.

After I got home, we were both hungry so went to Salvatore’s in Herkimer for lunch.  Then it was on to Heelpath Brewing Company at the Frankfort Marina,  then to the End Zone Pub and Grub in Herkimer.

We came home after that and are watching television.  Once I finish this I can knit. I do love to knit and watch television.  My only question is: true crime or old movie?  A little suspense adds interest to my evening.

Beer, Wine, Pizza and a Late Blog Post

There I was, all pleased with myself for making Friday’s post on Friday,  and now here I am, making Saturday’s post on Sunday.  Raise your hands, everybody who saw that coming.  I, for one, did not.

Yes, every time I try to turn over a new leaf, I think I will succeed with no backsliding.  You would think experience would teach me something.  But there is no point in repining, nor in making another post lamenting the fact that it is late.  How about a fast Scattered Saturday post?

I went running early, before it was completely light out.  My two favorite times of day are when it’s not quite light and when it’s not quite dark.  It was not a long run, but it felt good.

After a shower and breakfast, I headed to New Hartford, NY, to Party City.  I did not find the 1920’s wig I sought (at least not for the price I was willing to pay),  but I bought a lot of other cool stuff. I went straight home, having enough time to write my post cards and get them to the post office before it closed.

The adventure of the day was going to Heelpath Brewing Company at the Frankfort Marina.  I shall certainly write more about that.  Then we went to Fratelli’s in Frankfort for some pizza , another place I’ve been meaning to check out.

That was enough excitement to give me a whanging headache, which was why I just couldn’t make my post.  Was it too much beer and wine?  Perhaps the combination of beer, wine, candy and pizza?  I will enjoy my pleasures in more moderation today and hope to make Sunday’s post on Sunday.

Slacking on a Semblance of a Post

I was going to have a Scattered Slacker Saturday post.  I have done a few things this weekend so far and thought I could write some semblance of a post merely listing them. However, as I sit here typing one letter at a time with the stylus on my Tablet I must confess, this is not so. I do not want to make a blog post at all!!!

I can only hope it has been a while since I have done a post about “I Can’t Make a Blog Post Today,” because that is just about all I am up to today.  How utterly dreadful of me. But why should I worry?  It has happened before and will happen again.  As usual, we must make the best of things.

Today has been a day of highs and lows for me.  We had a great couple of performances as Mummers Along the Mohawk.  Additionally, I enjoyed some musical performances at the Great American Irish Festival in Frankfort,  NY.  Why should I not write a blog post about one of those things?

For one reason, I am tired.  I went running this morning and did a load of laundry which I hung out on the line.  It has been a hot and humid day.  I continued to have Mohawk Valley Adventures after the aforementioned performance. And I am not feeling in the happiest mood for reasons too tiresome to mention.

Well, never mind my unhappy mood.  These things change with the passage of time.  I have made, as I hoped, some semblance of a blog post.  I will attempt a better blog post tomorrow.   As always,  I hope you’ll stay tuned.

Once Again, About to Break a Lame

The Mummers, minus me.

Hello and welcome to Lame Post Friday.   I have to get ready soon for our Mummers performance at the Great American Irish Festival in Frankfort NY.  I am, as usual before a performance, eager and nervous.  It is a combination not good for my stomach, but I just love it.  Drama is my life!

In the meantime,  blog posts must be made, at least my blog posts by me.  Other bloggers of course must follow their own rules.  Lucky for me it is, as I mentioned earlier,  Lame Post Friday.

I think blog posts are better with monsters.

I thought I would throw in a monster or two.  This fight is symbolic of the fight in my stomach between nerves and anticipation.  You can decide which is which.

Me and some theatrical friends.

I thought I would also include a picture of me being theatrical.  This is from a murder mystery we did a few years ago.  Of course a murder mystery is a different kind of performance from a Mummer’s play.  I like all kinds of theatrical endeavors.

And another monstrous picture to round things out.

I thought I would end with Peter Lorre and Vincent Price reminding me not to lose my head.  Good advice.  Now I’m off to get my costume together.  Then I’ll break a leg!
