Is It Halloween Yet?

Yesterday I thought surely I would be able to make a Lame Post Friday Post (I don’t mind it when I call myself Shirley). And here I am, Saturday morning, wondering why I didn’t.  Then again, sometimes “why?” is not a particularly helpful question to ask.  Far better to go ahead and just correct the error to the best of one’s abilities.  At least I have coffee.

A friendly face with a friendly beverage.

I just scrolled through my Media Library till I found a coffee mug.  I am not using this lovely mug today, a favorite of my late husband Steve’s, but I do not scruple to use it year round.  In fact it is almost time to start using Halloween mugs since for me the Halloween season begins immediately after Labor Day.

Speaking of Halloween, I need to start cleaning my house more thoroughly.  My sister Cheryl suggested I throw a Halloween party, as I have been known to do in the past.  That is, Steve and I threw them, but I feel sure I  am capable of hosting a party on my own.

Witchy would be happy to welcome folks to my house.

There are other reasons to get my house cleaned up and my act together. I will not list them here, although they may constitute some half-baked philosophy suitable for a Lame Post Friday post.  However, I see I am over 200 words.  I feel a Lame Post is best kept brief.  I shall strive for Some Sort of a Saturday post later.  As always, I hope you’ll stay tuned.

About That Party…

I guess workday mornings before work are my times to make blog posts these days as my Tablet continues to foil me and my body rebels from sitting up at the dining-room-table-top.  What’s up with that, body?  My mind seems to be giving me a few problems too.  Just now the word “sitting” was underlined in blue and it took me a few minutes to figure out where the extra “t” was (I had typed “stitting”).  Then I left out one set of “in” in “dining room” and I had to ponder which “in” it was, the one in “din” or the one in “ing.”

Be all that as it may, here is some semblance of a post to try to start my week on the right foot.  In my last post, I was requested to share pictures of my costume from Friday, when my friend Kim and I went to a Halloween party featuring our favorite band, The Posers.  I had a little problem there and this is the best I can come up with this morning.

I think it is a kind of a cool shot.

This is my shadow in the parking lot of Ilion Elks Lodge, before we went into said party.  You can at least see that I am wearing a cape and have a bat on my head.  I only got one picture of the band.

They are awesome, yes!

We had a fun time at the party, dancing to a lot of great tunes.  I had not brought my Tablet with me, because I did not want to worry about it when I was on the dance floor (it is still taking OK pictures for me at least).  I had my phone in a little bag looped on a scarf around my waist.

And I see I am up to 300 words (more with this paragraph!).  I call it respectable for a Monday morning.  Once again, I will strive to improve as the week wears on.

What Am I Supposed To Be?

Prior to 5 a.m. and prior to work is not the appropriate time to make a Lame Post Friday post.  I’m just saying.  However, I am sitting here, grateful for my first cup of coffee, and determined to make a blog post so it will be at least three days in a row.  Yesterday in my title I threatened to make this blog All Lights, Camera, Murder! All The Time, but I am not yet ready to actually do so.  For one reason, I neglected to take any pictures at last night’s rehearsal.  It was not really all that memorable.  Speaking of memorable, I need to get to work learning my lines.

It’s hard to get a shot of the whole band.

My dilemma today is what to wear tonight.  My friend Kim and I plan to go to a Halloween Party at Ilion Elks Lodge, featuring our favorite band, The Posers.  That shot is from an evening they played there last January.

I usually have little problem coming up with a costume.  I have a large collection of costumes and costume pieces from previous Halloweens and plays I was in, in addition to a lot of stuff I have picked up along the way, just waiting for the opportunity to use them.  Tonight, however, the temperature is supposed to be unseasonably warm.  The Elks Club, with all the people sure to attend the party, will probably be steaming.  Even if not too bad, once we start boogying down to the great sounds of The Posers, I will no doubt begin to sweat.  The black velvet gown and red-lined cloak, which is my go-to costume as a common or garden ghoul, will not be that comfortable.

If only I had a long enough blond wig, I could go as Lady Godiva (I just said that with the devilish intention of giving some of you an unfortunate mental image) (you know who you are).  I suppose I could wear what I wore to the DooDah Parade some years ago.  As I recall, I mentioned in a previous blog post that I put that outfit together merely with the intention of keeping cool.

Bonus! I could wear my tiara!

My problem with that is, people would ask me what I was supposed to be, and I do not know what I could tell them.  On a float in a parade (I always insist on riding in the Doodah Parade), viewers are forced to draw their own conclusions.  Being me, of course, I suppose I could make something up.  So my assignment for today is (1) figure out what I am supposed to be in the above get-up or (2) come up with something else.

In the meantime, I have (pre-1) come up with a respectable-length blog post for the third day in a row.  I like to celebrate every small win.

Late for Throwback Thursday or Wayback Wednesday

Wednesday was a real Blogger’s Sick Day.  I had one of those migraines where the only thing I could do was lie around and have a headache.  For Thursday I have no excuse, unless it was my ongoing struggles with depression.  You would think I would be used to it by  now, and being a fairly high-functioning depressant (or do I flatter myself?) still be able to get things done.  At least more things.  I did do a couple of things but hesitate to list them because (1) there weren’t that many and (2) they were late.

Never mind all that, it is early Friday morning, and I need coffee.

A little blurry, but cool mug, yes?

I paused before getting coffee to take a picture of the mug I am using.  It was Steven’s mug (my late dearly missed husband, I add for anybody just tuning in), so I celebrate a memory as I sip.  I am, of course, using Halloween mugs this month.  I have too many coffee mugs in general, but NOT too many Halloween mugs!

They were a delightful couple.

I share the picture of Bridezilla and her consort, because I dreamed about her last night.  In my dream, I was telling somebody about the costume, and, as happens sometimes in dreams, we were watching it as I was telling it.  Only then she looked all different and was in a different costume, as also happens in dreams.  Don’t tell Dr. Freud on me!

He was looking good!

Bridezilla and the above picture were at a Halloween party at the Herkimer VFW in 2021.  We had a great time.  Another attendee told us me and Steve were the best couple.  How sweet!

She was the Woman of Many Hats.

Our friend Tracy was visiting at the time.  She dressed as herself:  a Woman Who Wears Many Hats, because she does, if you see what I mean.  Nobody took a picture of me.  I was just a common or garden ghoul.

One more scary picture couldn’t hurt, might help.

So I guess this is a Wayback Wednesday or a Throwback Thursday post.  We’ll see if I can be on time for Lame Post Friday, but no promises.

Monsters or Memories?

I am having a difficult time getting myself to do anything.  However, I persevere in trying.  I paid a few bills today, worked on organizing papers, took a couple walks, and drove to Cherry Valley, NY, in search of something to write about for Mohawk Valley Living magazine (preview of coming attractions).  But it doesn’t feel like I got a whole lot accomplished, and I spent a good deal of time feeling unmoored. Never mind that last sentence, let me get on with attempting some semblance of a blog post.

“I’ve fallen and I can’t get up!”

This is how I feel, only not so skinny.  I have put on a few pounds recently.  I have not been running or walking.  In addition to having a nagging cold, I fell down my front steps and hurt my back.  The back is feeling a little better, though, so I may ignore my cough and try a run tomorrow.

This was a great evening.

I move from monsters and moaning to memories with a shot of my recently dedeparted husband, Steve, on Richfield Springs Scenic Railway.  I would like to go on that again.

Isn’t he cute?

Here is a monstrous memory:  Steven in costume at the Halloween Party at Herkimer VFW in October 2021.

So this is my Monday blog post: a couple monsters, a couple memories, and a little moaning about my ills. As always, thank you for tuning in.

Never Mind Monday; How About Monsters?

Mondays are problematic for me. Oh, who am I kidding? Every day is a problem for me.  I’M a problem for me!  However, I am sure regular readers are aware of this.  I shall get on with my Monstrous Monday Post.

Reap away, buddy!

This was a decoration at a Halloween party we attended at the Herkimer VFW last October.  He looks like he is giving a little bow.  In greeting?  Acquiescence? Acknowledgement? There is not enough evidence to draw an accurate conclusion.

I think he is just so cute!

This adorable skeleton was a present to me from my husband, Steve.  I named him Bonaparte.  The mug advertises a murder mystery we put together to benefit the Herkimer County Historical Society.  I need to finish writing one we plan to put on in September (preview of coming attractions).

Mine is definitely not that big.

I finish with a movie monster, The Brain from Planet Arous.  I have not come across this fellow in my media library in a while.  I like to use this picture when I am feeling particularly brain dead, as I often am these days (cue jokes about how I am mostly brain dead most of the time).

I see I have gotten to 200 words. Score! I hope to see you all again on Tired Tuesday.

Monsters Help Me Over the Hump

Believe me, I saw the hump!

I promised myself I could do a Mid-Week Monsters Post, and I especially wanted to use the photo above. I really don’t have a whole lot to say other than, “Yay, I’m over halfway through the week!” But that’s all right, because all I have to do is find monster pictures in my Media Library. Yay monsters!

They were a lovely couple.

Instead of a movie monster, I share Bridezilla and her Groom from the Halloween party at Herkimer VFW last October. After they posed, Bridezilla had to laugh at herself, because she was smiling for the picture behind her mask, as if we could see her.

Another cute couple.

Continuing with non-movie monsters, here are our skeletons Bonaparte and Bonita. Bonita is in her Halloween outfit. It is just about time for her to put on her Easter outfit. And for us to put away our Christmas decorations, although I don’t like to rush into anything.

Death takes a bow,

This handsome fellow was also at the Halloween party at the VFW. I thought it would be a good picture to close with since he seems to be taking a bow. As a well-known theatre geek, I love a good curtain call.
