Just Wait Till Monday!

Sunday, Sunday.  I am approaching the end of my Sunday.

Relax, guys! Monday isn’t that bad!

I feel it is wrong to spend all or even part of Sunday dreading Monday.  I feel I should be able to find enough to appreciate during the week that weekends are not my only enjoyable times.  I mean, think about it:  what kind of a life is that, when you hate five days and only like two.  And you can’t even completely like one of the two, because the dreaded specter of Monday haunts the second weekend day.  What’s that all about?

This sounds like some half-baked philosophy more suited to Lame Post Friday than Wrist to Forehead Sunday.

I have had an active Sunday.  I went on a long run up College Hill, running longer than I did last weekend.  I went grocery shopping.  I mowed the front and back lawns then spent some time hacking and pulling some of the overgrown stuff out back.  I cooked a semi-elaborate dinner, making up the recipe as I went along.  I have not really cooked in a long time.  I watched several movies while re-reading  Regency romance by Georgette Heyer the mistress of such things.

Now I have made a blog post of questionable interest but at least 200 words.  My next goal is to find something to enjoy on Monday.  And to make a better blog post.  I hope you will stay tuned.

Still Scattered, Still Saturday!

I am going to make a fast Scattered Saturday Post and get back to enjoying my evening.  Maybe with another glass of wine.

I went for a run earlier this morning and eventually made my Lame Post Friday post.  More importantly, I wrote out a few post cards to send.  Regular readers know I like to send out a few postcards every week to folks who might need a pick-me-up.  I have not sent any for the past two weeks, so I felt happy to do so again.

I throw in a picture of the post office, just to add an illustration.

When I went to mail the post cards, I went on to Little Falls, NY, because I had to drop off a couple of catalogues I had borrowed from Mohawk Valley Funerals and Cremation.  Since this brought me past the turn-off to Dolgeville, I decided to visit Dolgville on my way back.

In Dolgeville I stopped at Stella’s Styles, a delightful consignment store I have been at before.  Alas, once there I felt disinclined to purchase anything, although I did see a  couple of fancy evevening bags I coveted.

Shortly after returning home, I joined my friend Kim for a tasting at Valley Wine and Liquor in Herkimer.  Three Brothers Winery in the Finger Lakes, yes!  After the tasting, we stopped at the Waterfront Grille for a full glass of wine.

Back home, I made some popcorn and watched as episode of Svengoolie on DVR.

It was Godzilla on Svengoolie.

I must decide what to watch next, but for right now I feel perhaps disproportionately pleased with myself for making my Saturday blog post on Saturday.   Hey, I gotta take my  wins where I can.

Decorations Past, Future Plans?

I am not waiting for my dining-room-table-top to boot up and get to WordPress, I am pecking in one letter at a time with the stylus on my Tablet as I sit lounged on my comfy couch.  Full disclosure: I am not as comfy as I might be, because I keep doing crap to irritate my back.  I know, I know:  lift with my legs, not my back!

Anyways, it is Friday morning, and I thought I would try for some semblance of a blog post.  A comment yesterday complimented me on my Christmas decorations.  I confess, they are not great this year, but I can share some pictures of previous years and call it a Throwback Thursday Post.

Look at all our toys!

2017 was a good decorating year, it seems.

A less cluttered arrangement.

It is nice to look at these pictures and think, “Maybe next year…”  Then again, I think I thought that last year.

Backing up from the previous shot.

I have long had it in my head to get my house thoroughly cleaned and organized.  I make a little progress, then get discouraged and slack off.  I suddenly have the thought that it is time for New Year’s Resolutions. Could I use this sort of motivation to jump start my efforts?

Hmmm… This could start me off on a whole big thing on New Year’s Resolutions, which have become a kind of a controversial topic.  Sounds like a good idea for Lame Post Friday, a post I hope to make later.  We shall see.

Tired Today, Tired Tomorrow?

I always think I am going to come up with a better blog post tomorrow, but Tired Tuesday often follows Monstrous Monday, doesn’t it?  I am tempted to justify myself with the argument, “Well, it’s not tomorrow, is it?  It’s today!”  You know, like the signs you sometimes see in bars, “Free Beer Tomorrow!”

I could go off on a philosophical riff here, about how we are always waiting for tomorrow, for something better in the soon-but-never-quite-gets-here future.  I rather doubt I could come up with anything profound, and anyways, I like to save the half-baked philosophy for Lame Post Friday.

In the meantime, I would like to come up with a reasonably entertaining blog post today.  I went for a walk this morning, as I usually do.  I wish I could have taken pictures for an illustrated Pedestrian Post, but my phone does not take good pictures in the dark.

It is kind of fascinating, walking in the dark.  Things look mysterious.  I like to go by houses that have lights on.  Otherwise, I feel I am the only soul awake, and I get lonely.  This happened especially when I was at my previous job and took my morning walks around four (or was it around the block?) (teehee).  Now I don’t start work till eight so take my walks around six.

Hmmm… I’ve a feeling my walks are more interesting to me than this blog post will be to my readers.  Oh dear.

The best thing to do with a foolish post is to cut it short.  I am, in fact, over 250 words.  Let’s see if I can do any better on Wednesday (see:  I did not say “tomorrow”).

I Guess I’m on the Cusp

It seems I am no longer a daily blogger.  I do not like that.  I like to be a daily blogger.  With that in mind, I am sitting at my dining-room-table-top on Friday morning, hoping to make a Throwback Thursday post.  Then later today I can make a Lame Post Friday post, and go on from there.  I have a recent history of dropping the ball on weekends, so we shall see.  A little suspense adds interest to my week.

So pretty!

I throw back to November 2016 and a lovely bouquet sent to me by my husband, Steve.  He recently sent me another bouquet, but I have neither my cell phone nor my Tablet handy to take a picture, and anyways, that would not be much of a throwback, being just earlier this week.  Then again, some people feel 2016 is not so long ago either.  I cannot deal with these deep questions so early in the morning.

So sweet!

Another picture from 2016:  our sweet, dearly missed poocher, Spunky.  I was watching the National Dog Show yesterday and simply longing for another dog of my own.

Time to be merry!

Let me take a break from melancholy with a Christmas muppet picture.  I feel Thanksgiving is a fitting start to the Christmas season, with Santa Claus anchoring the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.  One of my favorite Christmas movies, Miracle on 34th Street, begins on Thanksgiving.  I happened to catch that movie recently.  I am ready to feel Christmasy, are you?

I hope everybody had a lovely Thanksgiving, by the way.   As for this blog post, I am going to bill it as a Non-Sequitur Thursday, seeing as I am having Throwback Thursday on Friday morning, and I cannot decide between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Not a Lame Walk, But Maybe Lame Photography

I thought I would try for the Pedestrian Post I missed earlier this week, in lieu of my usual Lame Post Friday post.  Accordingly,  I armed myself with my smarter-than-me phone and set out shortly after supper.  I have done several of these picture walk posts in Herkimer, NY, and knew my adopted hometown would not disappoint.

My first photo op was the Grand Colonial Bed and Breakfast at 122 West German Street.  Unfortunately I was across the street and did not get a good shot.  So Herkimer did not disappoint,  but my camera did.  Most likely it was operator error as usual.

This is from my Media Library. I’ll try to get a full view later.

Continuing with my walk, I crossed Main Street and started down the lovely walkway over what used to be a hydraulic canal.  It is a wonderful re-purposed space, which, alas, I also did not get a good picture of.

Also from the Media Library and not the view I wanted.

I took a turn halfway down the path and walked down a sidewalk with few photo ops.  It was then I remembered I had been going to go to Mohawk Community Market on Main Street for the Grand opening on their newly renovated downstairs.  Well, it will still be renovated in days to come.  I’ll get there soon (preview of coming attractions).

Continuing my walk, I noticed the signs on the parking lot to the county office buildings.  Regular readers know that I can rarely resist entering where it says not to.

Oh, sure, THIS picture comes out!

I went out the entrance and the wrong way down Mary Street but did not take pictures of those signs.  Then I was on Main Street, heading towards my beloved Herkimer Historic Four Corners.

You can only really see two of the corners.

I tried, once again unsuccessfully, to get a picture of Suiter House.  By now I am too lazy to search my Media Library for one of those.

I had better luck with the 1834 Jail.

I could not resist a shot of the graveyard at Herkimer Reformed Church.

It was a very enjoyable walk.  I may take another one soon, if for no other reason than to get pictures of the things I missed.

I Feel Beastly

The beauty part about getting up way early is that even when you oversleep, you still have time to do a few things.  The beast part is choosing which things to give up (see what I did there?).  So, no walk this morning, but I hope some semblance of a blog post.  Some would argue that the walk is more essential, but while there is a vague chance I will take a walk after work, if I blog after work (which indeed I hope to do), it will be Friday’s post, not a late Thursday post.

So much for an introduction to a Non-Sequitur Thursday Post.  I am sitting at my laptop (dining-room-table-top, as regular readers may recall), ten-finger typing, sipping greatly appreciated coffee

And that was when I said, “Oh crap, I didn’t plug in my phone,” followed by “Oh crap, where did I put my phone?”  I retraced my steps (how many steps could I have taken; I just got up!).  Luckily my phone, unlike my Tablet, retains its original charging chord so will easily reach 100 percent by the time I go to work.  I only hope I remember to put it in my backpack, which, as anybodywho knows me will readily believe, is not a given.

As you may have guessed by now, I got nuthin’.  What a surprise.  I think I will throw in a picture to pep things up, slap on a catchy title, hit Publish, and drive on.  I hope to see you all later on Lame Post Friday (thank God I made it to Friday!).

I admit I have had catchier titles.

May be an image of one or more people and text that says 'Smile it's...FRIDAY FRIDAY'

Oops, I put a Friday meme on a Thursday post.

I Was Gonna Make Espresso!

Alas, it seems I can’t get through the week without missing at least one blog post. Yesterday I just couldn’t do it. I am not sure I can do it today, either, as I sit on my couch sipping chamomile tea and wondering if I shouldn’t call in to work. I am suffering stomach problems but do not wish to burden you or gross you out with details.

The sad thing, to me at least, is that I managed a half hour walk when I first got up. I used the Map My Run app on my phone (it isn’t just for running, it turns out) (and I still feel a little weird using a 21st century word like “app”) and shared the results on Facebook. Won’t that be a little assymetrical, going for an ambitious (for me) walk then missing work? Come on, chamomile tea! Be a miracle cure!

In the meantime, I am afraid this will have to do for my Thursday post, or rather my excuse for not making a Thursday post. Hey, it’s kind of a lame excuse, and here we are on Lame Post Friday! It! Could! Work!

Side Note: “It! Could! Work!” is from the glorious Mel Brooks movie, Young Frankenstein. If you have not seen it, do.

P.S. It Is also a Non-Sequitur Thursday Post.

Was It a Self-Indulgent Run?

I thought I would do a Running Commentary Post. For one reason, I went running. As I freely admit, what I do is called running only by the most generous definition of the term. However, I was out on the sidewalk moving my feet and putting in effort. I feel I deserve some credit at least.

It was a pretty afternoon with bright sunlight and bare pavement. The temperature was less inviting, but I put on leggings, long sleeves, gloves, and a knitted headband. This would be fine. I set out with modest goals and high hopes of meeting them.

I had reckoned without the wind. Where did that come from? And did it have to be right in my face? Apparently it did, because it seemed to change direction almost every time I did. I don’t think I felt it at my back the entire run. I know this is not logical, but how do you explain it? We all know I do not run fast enough to create my own wind resistance.

The best I could do was to keep plodding along as best I could. I decided 15 minutes would be acceptable. It was more than a mile. Stop judging me! I told you in the first paragraph I run slow! My cool down walk was also shorter than usual, eight minutes instead of ten.

As I walked my cool down, I told myself I could feel good about getting out there at all. Then, being me, I questioned whether I was being self-indulgent or at least unambitious. Was I, in essence, giving myself one of those despised Participation Trophies? As I type this in now, I feel these questions are best left for Lame Post Friday, the proper home for half-baked philosophy.

In the meantime, I have made my Tuesday post on Tuesday. At the risk of being self-indulgent, I say, “Yay, me!”

Columbo, Can You Help Me Now?

Can I make my Tired Tuesday Post on Tuesday? Probably not, but I shall try.

I loves me some Peter Falk.

We are watching an episode of Columbo which we DVR’d off MeTV. Oh good God, autocorrect changed MeTV to Meth! I’m watching television not smoking crack! Or is meth different from crack? I don’t know about these things.

That is as far as I got on Tuesday. Now it is Wednesday morning, and I am typing frantically (with ten fingers on the laptop) (which is really a tabletop, since it is permanently ensconced on the dining room table; if we move it at all it will cease to function) (just to give you the picture), trying to get to 200 words. Words do come more quickly with ten fingers. Is my brain moving any faster? Probably not. Let’s not ask for miracles.

Looking ahead, I will probably be making my Wuss-out Wednesday post Thursday morning, since we are planning to go to Fratello’s Pizzeria in Frankfort, NY, tonight to enjoy music by Phillip Arcuri. Yay! Similarly, Thursday’s post will be made Friday morning, because we are heading to Rome to see family. But that is appropriate for Non-Sequitur Thursday, so I am not deterred. Friday, however, may not be Lame Post Friday, because it will not really be Friday for me. Alas, I work Saturday. I am trying not to let the thought color my week too gloomily.

And now I have rattled on for 200 words. Score! Next time I will try for 200 good words, but, as I said, let us not ask for miracles.
