I’m in a Cheesy Play!

Yesterday I went to a rehearsal for the play I was unexpectedly asked to take part in:  Where’s the Cheesecake?  by Angela Harris.

Angela Harris, a resident of Little Falls, NY, also wrote Strike Story, the incredibly well-researched reader’s theatre play which gave LiFT, Little Falls Theatre Company, its start.  I got to participate in that production when a cast member could not make certain performances.  Perhaps you read a few of my blog posts about it.  Harris has also written several short plays about the ongoing adventures of Mac Blac, “Little Falls’ only professional problem solver.”  I saw one of the plays three years ago, at the Little Falls Cheese Festival.  I probably wrote a blog post about that too.  At least, I hope I did.  When I was asked to take a part in the latest adventure, I jumped at the chance!

This episode is done as a radio play.  We stand up and speak into microphones. Sound effects of doors closing and chairs moving help set the scene.  Oscar Stivala, as The Man with the Horn adds atmosphere. I loves me some Oscar Stivala!

The play takes place right before the Little Falls Cheese Festival and, obviously, involves a cheesecake.  More than that I will not say, because I do not want to give away any salient plot points.  I will say it is very mysterious and a lot of fun.

It’ll be more dramatic when we’re in costume.

Where’s the Cheesecake? will be presented on Saturday, July 14 at 11:30 a.m. at The Shop, 590 E. Main St., Little Falls,  as part of the Little Falls Cheese Festival.  The Cheese Festival is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Main Street.  Come buy some cheese and see a play!

A Few More Ball Pics

In lieu of my usual Tired Tuesday post (in a shining example of Freudian slip and wishful thinking, I almost typed “Wuss-out Wednesday”), I will continue sharing pictures of the Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs’ Purple in the Park for March of Dimes last Saturday night.  As I mentioned, it was a great time for a good cause, Mohawk Valley adventuring at its finest.

Note the lights coming on; I was up past my usual bedtime!

They painted the March for Babies logo on the field.  I was a silly wizard at the March for Babies event in May.  Perhaps you read my blog posts about it.

Must learn to focus my Tablet better.

I tried to get a shot of the outfield.  As you can see, I’m nobody’s photographer.  I hope to practice and get better, maybe even learning to use my digital camera.  In the meantime, I crave your indulgence.

No, I did not get their names. My bad.

This was early on, as you can see by how clean their pants are (why DO ball players wear white?).  I don’t know what these fellows were looking at or talking about.

I really could have used a zoom feature!

In the foreground are the Visitor Bleachers.  Behind them, we saw a few people sneaking a long distance view of the game.  I think they must live nearby, because I saw them leaving and returning by a path through the trees.

The tennis courts were recently redone.

This was the view behind us.  I did not mention yesterday that we were on the Sky Box, a really cool place to sit.  It is right over the Dawgs’ dugout.

So these are the rest of the pictures I took.  At least, I took a few more, but these were the best of the bunch.  I still have not said a whole lot about the game or about the March of Dimes, but, you know, it is Tired Tuesday.

Just a Bit about the Ball Game

Play ball!

On Saturday Steven and I went to Veterans Memorial Park in Little Falls to watch the Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs.  The occasion was Purple in the Park for March of Dimes Mohawk Valley.  Perhaps some of you read my post about my purple outfit for the occasion.  I realized I neglected to mention two things about my ensemble:  I wore all the purple beads I got at March for Babies a few weeks ago (at the end of the event I snagged a half dozen strings nobody seemed to want) AND I put purple in my hair.  But this post is not about me; it is about the Diamond Dawgs and the March of Dimes!

Full disclosure:  All I’m really doing is sharing the pictures I took on Saturday and typing a few words about them.  I felt I should not do another Monstrous Monday after the string of foolish blogs I have been doing.  Am I not Mohawk Valley Girl?  I must write more often about the Mohawk Valley!

Note the purple beads and bracelet. The beads are like the ones I wore. I did not wear a bracelet. Missed a bet!

Information was available about the March of Dimes and the great work that they do.

We were going for a Rambo-esque pose.

Adding excitement to the event was a homemade t-shirt shooter which shot March of Dimes t-shirts into the crowd.  I particularly liked the miniature baseball bat trigger.

The woman of the hour!

And here is the mover and shaker behind the event: the wonderful Laura Powers.  It was her husband, Matt, wielding the t-shirt gun.

I’m going to call this post a Preview of Coming Attractions, because I have not used all my pictures.  Perhaps tomorrow I’ll add the rest and tell a little more about the game.  Go, Dawgs!

Purple Prose about Purple Clothes

It has been another Saturday where I have not done enough to warrant a Scattered Saturday post, and I have waited too long after my run to make a decent Running Commentary post (my run wasn’t such a much anyways).  Instead I offer another Getting Ready post (which I need to come up with a better name for).  At least I am amused myself by my gyrations in finding something to wear.  Others can point and laugh or roll their eyes in self-satisfied superiority.  Whatever floats your boat. I try not to judge.

Tonight’s Event is Purple in the Park with the Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs in Little Falls, NY.   The aim is to all wear purple to raise awareness of the March of Dimes.  Regular readers may remember that I dressed as a wizard to participate in the March for Babies.  I was not a purple wizard, although I guess I could have been. I briefly considered wearing the purple graduation gown that was my back-up wizard costume to tonight’s event.  Then I decided to dress like a normal person, or as much of a normal person as possible.  After all, I can only work with what the Good Lord gave me.

I wanted to wear a large purple t-shirt with some bright-colored shorts I’ve had for years.  Alas, I could not find one.  That’s what I get for falling behind on my laundry. I knew I had a purple patterned button-down shirt that would work.  Could I find that?  Of course not!  I nervously eyed the clock and wondered if I had enough time to do a load of laundry.  I did not.  In searching for some purple, any purple, I found the button-down shirt.  Yes!  I even went so far as to iron it.

What pants to wear?  The shirt looks better untucked, so baggy shorts would not make me happy.  Spandex would be OK, since the shirt covers my fat butt (don’t judge).  I sent Steven out to my car, where my knee-length grey bicycle shorts were.  Full-disclosure:  they have been in a bag with other work-out clothes in my vehicle for about two weeks now, waiting for me to go to the YMCA after work.  In my defense, many of the days I have not gone to the Y, I have gone running.  Anyways, this is not a fitness post, stop judging my work-out habits or lack thereof.

Naturally I was able to find three purple earrings (I have three ear piercings) (cue jokes about holes in my head).  Yes, they all had to do with wine.  As they say, I gotta be me.  I was delighted to also find purple ankle socks.  I hope my blue little canvas sneakers do not clash too wildly, but it seems to warm for black sneaks and my white ones are too ratty.

For more information on tonight’s event, click on the link above.  If anybody local reads this in time, come on out!  Wear purple if you can; if not, at least you can cheer on the Diamond Dawgs!

Mid-Adventure Scattered Saturday Post

Just time to make a Scattered Saturday post before I am off on more adventures!  I slept in till a leisurely 6:30 a.m. and had an equally leisurely morning.  My one bit of ambition was to write a few post cards and walk to the post office and mail them.  As usual, I walked a long way home to get more exercise.  It was a nice walk, and I considered making a Pedestrian Post to get my blog done earlier in the day.  Unfortunately, I had waited too long for the walk and did not have time.

Steven’s and my good friend, Tracy, arrived around Steven’s lunch time.  After I got him back to work (I dropped him off, because we intend to pick him up later), Tracy and I visited for a while then took off on some Mohawk Valley Adventures!

We started at Valley Wine and Liquor’s, for a tasting of wines from Thousand Islands Winery, which incidentally, is near where Tracy lives.  We had a nice chat with the young man pouring as well as sipping a little wine.  I was delighted to hear that the liquor store will begin carrying my favorite Thousand Island wine, Cabernet Sauvignon,  next week.  I was also interested to hear the winery is coming out with a dry red blend soon.  I’ll be looking for that!

Next, Tracy and I went to Little Falls, where we made several stops:  Prima Donna’s Boutique, Mohawk Valley Center for the Arts, Rochette, Little Falls Antique Center, and Huckleberry Letterpress.  We had lots of nice chats and saw lots of nice merchandise.  I found myself mysteriously not in a mood to buy anything, but Tracy made a few purchases.

Back in Herkimer, we were feeling peckish so went to PK’s Pub, where we both had yummy salads.  Tracy had a slice of homemade Peanut Butter Pie for dessert, but I managed to behave myself.  For now.  No promises for later.

Keeping one eye on the time and the other on my word count, I think I must end this post now.  We have further adventures to enjoy!  I hope everybody’s Saturday is going as well.

A Prohibition on Bald Dogs? It’s Non-Sequitur Thursday!

While I am stealing others’ ideas for my blog posts, I thought I might try for a Throwback Thursday today.  After all, I had fun making my Wordless Wednesday post.  Why not stick with it?  I think I have some pictures of the past in my Media Library.  If I mix them up a little, maybe this can be a Non-Sequitur Thursday as well.

When your cute little dog wants to take over your yarn basket for a bed, you let him.

First I strike a melancholy note with a picture of our dear, departed Spunky.  I was just thinking about Spunky earlier today.  Once when a four-year-old girl met him, she called him “Skunky.”  As a matter of fact, he was not the nicest smelling pooch ever, but we loved him.  Now I am feeling sad, so I will find a picture of a different sort.

Now there’s a nefarious bunch!

Here is the cast for Rubbed Out at Ruby’s, the interactive murder mystery that LiFT Theatre Company put on at the Overlook Mansion in Little Falls last February.  It was set in the 1920’s. I was just thinking this morning that I am having a kind of a craving for more 1920’s.  I want to find a new ’20’s outfit, dress up in it and go somewhere.  Maybe just to a party or a prohibition theme night at a bar (I went to one of those once).  I wonder if I still have that picture…

The real hottie on the left is my friend, Kim. I’m wearing the tiara and the red boa.

I’ll tell you what I really miss is my short hair!  I want to do another St. Baldrick’s Day event and shave it all off again.  I just love the look of hair growing back from bald.  I think it looks so sophisticated.

I just love doing a St. Baldrick’s Day.

I last did a St. Baldrick’s Day event in the spring of 2016.  I think I’m due for another one.  My only problem is, I hate asking people for money.  I know it’s not for me, but it’s still money they might prefer to spend on something else.  Well, I am not currently signed up for one, so I do not have to worry about it yet.  I’ll keep you posted, by writing a blog post about it, of course.

Apparently I Can Still Write a Little

You know how I say writing begets writing?  That the more you write, the more you will write.  Well, that is true, I suppose, but, you know what, after you write and you write and you write, sometimes you get tired.  That is where I am at.

Oh, I wrote today.  First I started a letter to my friend, Marsha, whose birthday is coming up. I intended to go to Huckleberry Letterpress in Little Falls to get her a card, which I still have reasonable hopes of sending out in time to arrive not too awfully late.  I also wrote a bit on my novel.  That makes 19 days in a row of working at least a little bit every day on it.

After work, I drove straight to Little Falls and had a lovely visit at Huckleberry Letterpress.  The couple that own it are so nice!  I got a nice card for Marsha and enough material to write my (late) article for Mohawk Valley Living magazine.  After leaving Huckleberry, I walked up Main Street and found The Sandwich Chef.  I thought a cup of tea would taste awfully good, and I was write.

While I sipped my tea, I worked a little more on my letter to Marsha, telling her a little about Huckleberry and the Sandwich Chef.  I took a few notes about the Chef as well.  I told the lady I would probably write a blog post about it (um, hopefully a better post than this one).

I got home, grabbed my laptop and went to work.  I wrote an article about Huckleberry Letterpress.  I wrote a shorter one about The Sandwich Chef.  Steven read both and said they sounded OK.  I emailed them out.  Phew!

Then I thought, “I can’t write any more!  I can’t do a blog post!  IT!  WON’T! WORK!”

But I see now that it did.  Happy Wednesday, everybody.

I Jingle All the Way

So I ran the Reindeer Run 5K in Little Falls this morning.  Slowly, of course.  At least I didn’t walk, and I was out there doing it.  And I retained enough breath to shout out silly remarks to fellow runners, volunteers, and people along the course watching.  I like to think I amused a few people.  Steven took a picture of me before I left, because we both rather liked my outfit.

Ready to rock and roll!

Yes, the jingle bells on my reindeer antlers chimed the whole way.  At one place in the course, we ran out a road to a truck, then turned around and ran back.  I shouted encouragement to all the runners ahead of me (which was most of them) as they ran by me after they turned around.  I said things like, “Looking good!”  “You got this!”  “Good job!”  “See you at the party!”  and, my own personal favorite, “Jingle all the way!”

The party afterwards was at Ed and Bud’s Bar and Grill on Main Street in Little Falls. I had been by Ed and Bud’s many times but never stopped in.  I must make that a priority now.  For one reason, the race director and volunteers were drinking Tom and Jerry’s, a traditional Christmas drink.  It looked so good, but of course I did not have my wallet on me.

After the race, I walked back to the YMCA, where the race had started.  I was feeling the cold by now, but walking up a couple of hills stretched my leg muscles out pretty good.

A highlight of the race was the Moose on the Loose.  The Moose was at many events associated with Christmas in Little Falls, and people were encouraged to take selfies with her and post them on social media.  Those who did so could win prizes.  When I confessed to the Moose that I could not do so, she whipped out her phone and took one.

We were all in high spirits at the beginning of the run.

The Moose met me near the end and ran in with me.  Alas, I started my sprint too soon, thinking the ending was closer than it was.  Then I panicked.

“I’m not going to make it,” I whined.

“Yes you are!” said the Moose and another runner who was just a little ahead of me.  Of course I did make it.  As usual, I felt terrific once the run was over.  I’m looking forward to the next Little Falls run.  And to the run I intend to take by myself tomorrow.  Or the next day.  But soon.  I like to run.

Running But Not Writing

We are just a few days away from the Reindeer Run 5K in Little Falls, NY!  I ran yesterday, did not run today, will run tomorrow, and either take a long walk or a short run on Friday.  Today I went to the Christmas in Little Falls website and made a note of when and where the race begins.  Yes, I was not clear on these things when I signed up.  I suppose I must have noticed it when I filled out the form, but I neglected to make a note of it (what a surprise, me not organized! Say it ain’t so!).

A lot more stuff is going on in Little Falls on Saturday besides the run.  I have not decided yet what, if any, other events I will attend.  Right now I am more concerned with making sure I have some good sports bras clean.  And deciding whether I should wear reindeer antlers or a Santa hat when I run.  Either one might fly off when I sprint it out at the end.   I guess my sprint is not all that fast compared to other runners, but I do pick up the pace a little.

So my tiredness from Tired Tuesday continues.  Likewise my extreme reluctance to write.  I don’t know what it is, but I can’t seem to make myself put pen to paper and move it.  Now that I have written that, I think I would like to put that to the test.  It is all very well to keep typing in a blog post, but I do not feel that I am writing.  For one reason, this is kind of a lousy blog post.  Well, I’ll just call it Wuss-out Wednesday and drive on.  I’ll let you know on Thursday if I have any luck with the pen.

Little Post About Little Falls

Can I just say, once again, that I love Little Falls.  My husband Steven and I recently had a memorable visit there, one worthy of a longer blog post than I contemplate making here.  Judge me if you like.

We drove what we call the back way from Herkimer, along Route 5S.  This took us by the Humane Society, Fort Herkimer Church, and Lilah’s Foster House.  I had to point the last one out to Steven, as he was unfamiliar with Lilah and her work with homeless animals.  I am not real familiar with it myself, but I accompanied my friend Kim to the House one night when she went to adopt a sweet kitten.

Going over the bridge and turning right to Canal Place, we easily found a place to park and went into Prima Donna’s Boutique.  I hoped to write about the place for Mohawk Valley Living magazine.  While there, Donna recommended we check out Huckleberry Letterpress on Main Street.  Before doing that, however, I took Steven into Rochette, in the space formerly occupied by The Mustard Seed.  From there we wandered past Ole Sal’s Creamery and looked over the antiques in that building.  As we left, I said perhaps we could return for ice cream.  I’m hoping we’ll do that soon, because, yum.

Before and after visiting Huckleberry Letterpress (we told the guy Donna sent us), we walked up and down Main Street, making notes of various businesses to return to at some point.  High on that list is Copper Moose Ale House, one of my favorite dinner spots.

Regular readers may have noticed that I did not post yesterday.  For that I am truly sorry and will offer no excuse. At least, perhaps later I will offer a lame one later, when I write for this week’s Lame Post Friday.  A little uncertainty adds interest to my day.
