Current Run, Old Selfies

I had thought to do a Running Commentary Post this morning, as a change from Pedestrian Posts.  I thought of it while I was running.  Unfortunately, I did not run by any places I have pictures of in my Media Library.  Ever since I started putting pictures in the blog, I hate to have a post without one.  Then I thought, I’ll take a selfie after the run.  That will do.  I forgot to.  There is no point in taking a selfie now; I ran almost three hours ago.  I’m showered and dressed.  Anyways, my phone is across the room charging.

A selfie after a run four years ago.

I am not very photogenic.  In October 2020 I took a challenge to exercise for 34 minutes every day for 34 days to raise awareness for the 34 million Americans who suffer from diabetes.  As part of the challenge, you were supposed to take a selfie and post it on Facebook with some information about diabetes.  I did not take 34 selfies, but I took a few.  Also, some days I walked instead of running.

Today I ran for just over 20 minutes.  It felt pretty good.  Before I ran, I said to myself, “I don’t wanna run!  I’m not gonna run!”  Then I put on my gear and ran anyways.  It felt pretty good, surprisingly enough.  It was still dark when I started out, so I enjoyed seeing some Halloween lights.  As it got lighter, I could see other decorations.  Sometimes a good run involves distracting yourself from the fact that you are running.  Luckily I did not distract myself so much I tripped on the sidewalk and skinned up my knee. Yes, I have done that, the last time while walking.  I am not the most graceful creature on God’s green earth.

Also from October 2020.

I add a selfie where I look a little more cheerful.  My friend is Mookie Wilson, a bat my late, beloved husband Steve won in a claw machine back in the late ’80s.  My sister Diane suggested the name.  Mookie Wilson has hung on light fixtures in many of our residences over the years.

I guess I haven’t said a whole lot about my run, but I am over 350 words.  Score!  As always, I thank your for tuning in.

A Few Sights of the Season

Now I can do my Waste Not Want Not Wednesday Post, and we can pretend it is not early Thursday morning (I said we CAN pretend, I didn’t say you had to! Sheesh!) (you know who you are).  These are just a few pictures I took on walks.  Perhaps today I will take a walk and take some more for a real Pedestrian Post with Pictures (preview of coming attractions).

They smelled pretty good, too!

I took this during one of my cool-down walks after a run, because I was so surprised to see lilacs blooming in October.  I later noticed something somebody shared in a Facebook comment saying how sometimes lilacs would bloom late and why.  Of course I did not read the whole thing, nor further research the matter.  I just enjoyed the sight of the flowers.

LOOOOVE the changing leaves!

Here is a more familiar October sight:  beautiful colored leaves!  I do know why this happens; I read it somewhere and had it explained to me by a biology student, but I shall not burden my readers with the knowledge.  For one reason, I might remember it wrong and look even more foolish than I normally do.

I tried to get a closer look.

This is not as good a shot as I had hoped, but I did say Waste Not Want Not.  I actually took the tree pictures a week ago (I just checked on my phone; you see I do research some things).  There are more colors to see now.  I’d better take that walk, while the colors are still here!

Tired But On Time!

At least it is the end of the day Tuesday.

I promised myself I could use this picture if I made my Tired Tuesday post on Tuesday.  Bribery often works with me.  Unfortunately, just because I log onto WordPress and start typing does not mean I have anything to say.  I know, when has that ever stopped me?

I typed that in (I once again quote Truman Capote: “That’s not writing that’s typing”) then could not think of another word to type.  Perhaps I should not have put both the play and dinner in the same blog post for Sunday.  Perhaps I should be having more Mohawk Valley adventures to write (type) about.

They were pretty.

I threw in a picture before I got any more bogged down in “shoulds.”   This is a shot of my Black-Eyed Susans from August 2018.  The patch has since overgrown with weeds and stuff.  Not a yellow bloom to be seen. I plan to cut the whole thing down and start over again.  Not today, of course, but possibly by the weekend.  Then I can have another Lawn Order post.

Where will the road lead me?

Another kind of post I have not made lately is a Running Commentary.  For one reason, I have not been running.  I hope to begin again soon.  In the meantime I have been walking every morning.  Perhaps a Pedestrian Post is in order.

For today, however, I am over 200 words.  It will have to do.  Full disclosure:  I have been fighting a vague headache most of the day, and I think it is winning.  However, it is the end of the day.  We shall see what tomorrow will bring.  I hope you will stay tuned.

I Ask Myself…

Every other day blogger?  I guess that is what I am for now.  And here I am Friday morning, ten finger typing on my Chromebook, which I still cannot navigate handily but is becoming more familiar. I sip Irish Breakfast Tea and ponder my day.  Will I do anything blogworthy?  Perhaps.  I had a rather blogworthy Wednesday, but did I write about it?  Um, no. Once again I ask, what the hell, me?

I like old buildings against a grey sky.

I throw in a random picture to pep things up.h  I am going to call this my Lame Post Friday post, so the pressure is off.  This was taken during a walk on Main Street in Herkimer, NY, the former Christ Episcopal Church and Herkimer County Courthouse.  The latter is part of Herkimer’s Historic Four Corners, which regular readers know I love to walk or run by.  I walked by them the other day but did not make a Pedestrian Post mentioning it.  See, I have all kinds of things I could write blog posts about, I just don’t.  What’s that all about?

Do Not Enter my brain; it could get scary.

Another landmark I passed on Wednesday’s walk.  I do love to defy a Do Not Enter sign.  Oh, don’t worry; I never do it in my car.  Sheesh!

Will I see any of these any time soon?

I close with a bit of hope for spring.  I’m afraid my crocuses will have a hard time showing up this year, because dead leaves from last fall lie thickly on my lawn.  Once again I neglected to put down more crocus bulbs, as I have intended to do every year since I moved in (2005).  That is, I put some down in 2005 but have never done so again.  I am not even going to ask myself why not.

However, this bit of nonsense is now over 300 words, so I say, good enough for Lame Post Friday. I adjourn for another cup of tea.

From a Swoon-like Position

I once again try to make a blog post from my phone, as I did Thanksgiving weekend (perhaps you read that post). I am lounged on my couch after a singularly lazy Sunday. Then again, why not a Wrist to Forehead Sunday post? To a casual observer, I look like I might just have swooned, dramatically posed or otherwise.

I need to get a closer shot.

I took that picture when I walked to the post office yesterday. I usually go through Meyer’s Park in Herkimer, NY, where I live (I add for the benefit of any reader just tuning in). I meant to take a few more pictures and make a Pedestrian Post, but couldn’t make up my mind on any.

An excellent musician.

Here is another picture I took but had not used in the blog yet. It is local musician Tom Maneen, who I enjoyed seeing at Frattello’s Pizzeria in Frankfort last Wednesday.

My phone does not seem to tell me how many words I am up to. No doubt I have just not clicked in the right place. Regular readers know that most of my problems can be explained with the words Operator Error.

I say no matter. This makes three days in a row that I have posted at least something. I will let that content me. Now then, how to add categories and tags…

Walking Back to the Blog

I have not posted in two weeks (I did the math: 14 days, then I looked at a calendar).  It just got easier and easier NOT to post!  And here is a philosophical question (whose answer will be half-baked, no doubt) suitable for a future Lame Post Friday post (if I can manage to keep posting that long):  why are good habits so hard to get back to and bad habits so easy?  I can go a week or two without eating chocolate (I can’t tell you the last time I actually did that, but I’m sure I can), then one little bite and I’m all, “YUM!  Why did I ever stop this?”

Full disclosure:  right now as I ten-finger type on my dining-room-table-top, I am a bit,  “This is awesome!  Why did I ever stop this?”  Yet I cannot guarantee I will be here tomorrow morning at this time doing the same thing.  But, as I said, these questions are for Lame Post Friday.

The current state of my blog.

As I often do at these times,  I throw in a picture to pep things up.  On Sunday (today is Tuesday, but the way; I mention it because my WordPress timestamp does not always jive) I took a walk with my camera, taking a few pictures, thinking to make a Pedestrian Post.  These rotting pumpkins caught my eye. I thought it was a brave smile, such as I feel myself giving these days (my teeth are in about as good shape).  At least this one has not started molding on the inside.  I once saw a really scary one with its mouth wide open to a black interior.  Alas that I had no phone or tablet with me at the time.

A nice place. I should join.

My walk continued and eventually I went past the Herkimer Elks Lodge, the site of my recent theatrical triumph (I feel I do not flatter myself as I give most of the credit to my fellow actors), Lights, Camera, Murder!  Imagine my chagrin when I discovered there were several other murder mysteries with the same title.  These things happen, I suppose, and I have heard you cannot copyright a title.

Why isn’t he in his cell? Is it a jail break?

Because I am still (let’s face it: almost always) in Halloween mode, I took a shot of the ghost of Chester Gillette peeking out of the 1824 Jail.  I guess it is not technically a ghost, but I think it has a nicely creepy air to it.

I see I am over 400 words.  That is long for one of my posts!  I hope I can get back into daily blogging. I may even waste a post detailing why I was away for so long, but as I often note, explanations are tiresome.  I sincerely thank you for tuning in.

I Suppose This Is a Blog Post

Oh dear.  I thought that when I made my Monstrous Monday Post on Monday, I was beginning a week of on-time posts. It did not take long for that to fall apart as I failed to post on Tuesday.  Now I am sipping coffee on Wednesday morning (THANK GOD for coffee!), and thinking I should attempt some semblance of a blog post.

I did not have any Mohawk Valley Adventures yesterday.  I did go for a half-hour walk in the morning, as I do most mornings.  My reasons are several:  I hope to improve my physical health, keep my weight down, and alleviate my depression.  I know I could have put “physical and mental health,” but I wanted to make it sound like two different reasons.

I suppose I could have (and still could) make a Pedestrian Post, but those are so much better with pictures, and it is usually still dark when I take my walks.  I further suppose I could search my Media Library for pictures previously taken of places I walked by.  After all, I can only walk by so much in a half-hour walk, even if I start in a different direction each time.  I only have so many directions to pick from.

I am realizing I suppose a lot in these posts that are not really posts.  I suppose I could write this, I suppose I could write that…  I comfort myself once again with the reflection that writing about not writing is still writing.  I am going to bill this as a Tired Tuesday Post and drive on.  First I will throw in a picture, just for fun.

Not what I saw on yesterday’s walk, but who doesn’t love a rainbow?

Past Pedestrian Pictures on Tired Tuesday

Oh it is Tired Tuesday.  I do not see why I should feel so tired, although I have a couple of educated guesses.  Never mind those, I always question self-diagnoses anyways.

I went for a nice walk earlier, snapping pictures on my smarter-than-me phone, in hopes of doing a Pedestrian Post.  I got some good ones, but then I remembered I still had a couple I had taken on a previous walk.  Under the heading Waste Not Want Not…

Some flowers still bloom!

This outside Basloe Library in Herkimer,  NY.  I have not had a container garden in the last few years, but when I see an urn of flowers, I start planning for next spring.  Then I start thinking of all the things I have to do to make the plan happen and get bogged down in discouragement and remember that my plans all go to hell anyways.  Still, I might be able to make something happen.  One must not give way to despair.

Well, this is what happens to me on Tired Tuesday:  I can’t share an innocent picture of flowers without starting to whine and cry about something.  I really need to get over myself. Quick, share another picture.

Sometimes I see red.

This was also outside the library.  I love the red against the white.  Maybe I could plant a tree like that in my yard (see, there I go making plans again).

Now that I look at it, not the best shot. Oh well.

This was in Meyers Park.  There are a lot of trees there,  in various stages of color.  I took a picture of a different tree there tonight, I mention as a preview of coming attractions.  Tomorrow I may use some of the pictures I took today’s (I think I took enough for two posts), but I have rehearsal for He Laughed Himself to Death,  so no promises.

But Who’s Keeping Score?

I just did not want to make a blog post last night, so here I am, back to making my Lame Post Friday post on Saturday.  I just got up and have barely had a sip of coffee.  There, I just took another sip.  That helped.

A true Lame Post Friday post includes random observations and half-baked philosophy.  But as I sit in my living room (lounged on the couch, pecking in one letter at a time with the stylus on my Tablet, as I often say, hoping to give a picture), there is not much to observe.  Of course,  an observation does not have to be something you currently see.  It could be something about human nature you have been thinking about.  Or would that be half-baked philosophy?

This is silly.  Maybe I should throw in a picture to pep things up (thus giving you a real picture, no doubt more effectively than a word picture of me on the couch) (and probably a good deal more attractive).

They are keeping more than an eye on you.

This is one of a few pictures I took on a walk for which I never wrote the intended Pedestrian Post.  It is of Basloe Library in Herkimer,  NY, one of my favorite places.  I may go there this morning.  For one reason, their computers are a good deal more reliable than my dining-room-table-top (of which regular readers have heard me complain) (YES, I am grateful that I have a computer at all! Sheesh!).

My babbling has brought me to over 250 words.  Score!  Although I suppose I have not said very much.  Rats!  But, while late, it is Lame Post Friday.  Score!  I shall quit while I am ahead.

A Couple of Pictures, Not Much of a Post

Once again I have left it till too late in the evening to make a proper blog post.  Oh, wait, it is Tired Tuesday!   I am inadvertently appropriate.  What is my excuse the rest of the time, you may ask. I will explain: shut up (with thanks to S. J. Perelman) (look him up) (or just wonder).

Where was I?  Ah yes, tired Tuesday.  My original plan was to go running and make a Running Commentary Post, using for illustration two pictures I took on Sunday’s cool down walk.  I felt too tired to run (what a surprise) but managed a walk, thinking to make a Pedestrian Post .  I took pictures on the walk and had some interesting narration in my head.  But it is too long, which may be surprising for a 20 minute walk but not when you remember how much I like to talk.

I don’t know that I really captured the light.

I cut to the chase with the first picture from Sunday.  I was struck by how the sun seemed to zero in on that one patch of color.

More than just a patch!

Walking up a dead end street, I found some more color.  I spend a lot of time during the fall just staring at the trees knowing the beauty will not last.

I see professional and amateur photographers sharing their work on Facebook, and, yes, it is much better than mine.  But I make bold to share my little contribution and hope you are all enjoying the season.
