The More You Complain, the Lamer the Blog Post

Now my stomach is giving me grief!  I just sat here, staring at the blank “Add New Post” screen, thinking, I CAN’T have three blogger’s sick days in a row!  But apparently I can.  For one reason, I do not want to do two posts tomorrow.  I have a busy day planned.  Yes, wine is involved, judge me if you life, I do not at all care.

I had one of the best dinners I have had in a while at my Mom and Dad’s house.  I think I ate a little too much.  Or something else might be going on.  My stomach has, in fact, been giving me grief off and on all week.  I just haven’t complained about it in this space, because, quite frankly, I have been complaining about everything else and just had not gotten to it. My older sister, Victoria, told me that the more you complain, the longer God lets you live.

How hard can it be to make a post on Lame Post Friday anyways?  A couple of random observations, some half-baked philosophy, and hit publish.  My random observation is:  I have not been writing enough, but I have been obsessed with doing puzzles.  Pencil puzzles, like crosswords, cryptograms, etc.  My half-baked philosophy is that I probably like the puzzles because they occupy my mind and keep me from thinking about things.  Who wants to spend time thinking about things?  Not me!

Oh, my stomach is really, really upset.  I need to stretch out, and I cannot type lying down.  Suddenly this seems like Wrist to Forehead Friday:  I will swoon onto my couch (I don’t have a chaise lounge) in a manner most dramatic, and hope to be better in time to make a Scattered Saturday post.

I Need Some Nosteratu

The obligatory psycho eyes!

Hey, it’s Lame Post Friday! I have not shared monster pictures all week, so I thought I might indulge tonight.  I open with a monster of the human variety (using the term “human” loosely), the murderous Rhoda in The Bad Seed, as played by Patty McCormack in the 1956 movie. She is shown with her mother, played by Nancy Kelly, who does a good bit of scenery chewing herself.  Steven and I are watching the movie now.  I wanted something cheesy, familiar, and fun.

I did not mean to make a real movie blog post about The Bad Seed.  I merely mention it to set the scene, as it were.  It is the end of a long week, and I am tired.  I need some Nosferatu.

“Ah, fresh air!”

Here is the picture I always think looks as if it is in front of Little Falls Antique Center at Canal Place.  Just to give a little local flair.  For a little more local flair, I am sipping some Reisling from Merritt Winery in Forestville, NY.  I have not been there but have sampled the wine at tastings at Valley Wine and Liquor in Herkimer, NY.

I just flashed on Dracula, saying, “I never drink… wine”  (of course he pronounced it “vine”).  That is where the vampire and I differ.  Therefore I will close with a picture of Frankenstein, “Drink!  Good!”  Come to think of it, he may have been talking about gin.  Well, one must make do after all.

Tea is good, too.

This is Boris Karloff in 1931’s Frankenstein, on a break.  Just to complete the scene, we are now at the point in The Bad Seed where the characters are drinking gin and tonic.  Damn, that’s one of my favorites!  Well, wine is good, too.  Happy Friday, everyone!

It’s Lame Post Friday and I Want Monsters!

OK, I typed in that headline, went to my Media Library, and said, “I can’t use that!” to every monster picture I saw.  What the hell, me?  Why don’t I just take a blogger’s sick day and drive on.  All I want to do is knit and watch true crime television anyways. And now I have to go turn the meatballs again.

There.  I was cooking with wine, and now I’m letting the bowties cook for another ten minutes.  I could do a cooking post, since I am getting a little creative, but, dammit, I’m in the mood for monsters.

OK, they haven’t made the monster yet, but what an atmospheric shot.

I do like a grey shot of a cemetery.  And just look at all those crooked gravestones.  I always heard that when a gravestone was tipped, it meant the soul that had been buried there walked. I say cool, although others may say it’s just erosion.  I try not to argue with such people.

I’m not sure what he’s doing, but he is definitely more ambitious than I am this evening.

Here’s the monster!  Yes, he is Frankenstein’s monster or The Monster, not Frankenstein.  I personally do not have a problem with anybody calling him Frankenstein, although I think “Frankie” is a little precious.  However, I am not the arbiter of these things.

Sometimes we all need a little help from a friend.

To round things out with three pictures, here is The Monster having a tea break.  Ah, tea.  Perhaps I will have a cup.  After my glass of wine. It is Friday, after all.

The Lame at the End of the Tunnel

For being the last day of a four day week, today felt kind of like a four week day.  I am sure many people felt the same way.  Oh, it was not a horrible day.  I don’t mean to whine.  At least, I guess I am whining, but I hope not to be too tedious about it.  A tedious work day need not lead to a tedious blog post.

The fact is, I am not feeling Friday.  As a Monday through Friday worker, I expect to feel happy on Friday.  This is not an unreasonable expectation.  Should I not be filled with pleasurable anticipation of a weekend wherein I do not have to go to work?  I don’t mind my job, it is a good job and all that, but I do not have one of those thrilling careers where you just can’t wait to get to work in the morning.  I’ll tell you what:  I have never in my long life of employment had a job that was better than a day off.

Ooh, here’s some pleasurable anticipation for me:  I just heard a rumble of thunder!  I have been wanting a thunder storm since… oh hell, I almost ALWAYS love a  thunder storm.  I hope we do not lose power.  For one reason, this laptop needs a new battery.  Let this be a reminder for me to order one.

Here is a self-fulfilling prophecy for you:  I typed in that headline, not in fact seeing any light at the end of the tunnel (full disclosure:  the tunnel I am in is not even that dark).  It was the only play on words involving “lame” that I could come up with.  Then I started typing about what a dour, dank day I was having.  And then I heard the thunder and everything got a whole lot better!  Turns out lightning is the light at the end of the tunnel.  Who’da thunk it?

Some didactic sort is now saying, “You said LAME at the end of the tunnel, not LIGHT.”  I say that’s a pretty lame argument, but that’s OK, because it goes right along with my lame blog post on Lame Post Friday. All of a sudden, I’m feeling Friday again!

Snapped, Wine, Who Cares If I’m Lame?

I read on Facebook that it is National Wine Day.  Of course, I believe very little of what I read on the internet. However, I decided to give Facebook the benefit of the doubt and poured myself a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon.  Ooh, do I love Cabernet Sauvignon!  After one sip, I returned to Facebook and typed in a status saying so.

Another thing I read on Facebook was a promo by Oxygen, sharing all these tweets from people saying how their Sundays involve wine and Snapped.  I was naturally inclined to believe this, since that is how many of my Sundays progress.  How pleasant to feel that I am not alone in my tastes!  Then I thought, why should Sunday have all the fun?  Snapped is on Oxygen as I type and sip.  Aaaahhh…. Friday.

Additionally, it is the Friday beginning a three-day weekend for me.  Alas, my dear husband works all three days, as I’m sure others do as well.  Please do not attempt to shame me.  I intend to enjoy my days off with a minimum of guilt.

I am, unfortunately, feeling a trifle guilty about my continued foolish posts.  Lame Post Friday, of course, is my beloved institution, but this has been a bad blogging week for me.  I thought briefly about making another Running Commentary post, since I went running again.  Yay me, running two days in a row! I DESERVE this delicious glass of wine!

In the meantime, one episode of Snapped is getting over and another about to begin.  I prefer to watch and knit over continuing my Lame Friday Post.  For another reason, foolish posts should at least be brief.  Happy Friday, everybody.

I’ll Be Lame for the Concert!

I pause in my gyrations of trying to get ready for An Evening with America to make a Flustered Friday post. If I have time.  I may start it now and finish it after the concert.  I am pausing not so much because I am dedicated to making my blog post right this minute (I AM dedicated to making my post, of course, just not necessarily right this minute), but for the sake of sitting in front of a fan and cooling off for a minute before I attack the wardrobe problem again.

As I have often observed, it is not easy being me.  My weight loss goals seem further away than ever — and I thought I was being so GOOD this week: no candy, no cookies, no ice cream! A lovely blouse I purchased recently, after trying it on to be sure it is not too tight in my upper arms, turns out to be, you guessed it, too tight in my upper arms.  As well as elsewhere.  I bought it recently, and according to the scale I have not gained weight since then, but….  Maybe my scale needs new batteries.

To make matters worse, I started hot flashing.  I can’t wear leggings!  I can’t wear a camisole under that white shirt!  I can’t wear that black top!  I can’t wear anything!  AAAAAAUUUUUGGGGHHHH!  Oh, OK, I did not scream.  I just came downstairs to, as I said, cool off.  Sitting still in front of a fan is quite effective for that.  I highly recommend it.

I see I am over 250 words.  That, by my convoluted rules for myself, is respectable, especially for a Lame Friday Post.  I hope your weekend is beginning more smoothly than mine.  I shall post further updates as events warrant.

Lame Headache, Monster Pictures

If this was not Lame Post Friday, I might be tempted to have another Blogger’s Sick Day.  I left work early with a migraine.  It’s better now, but I still have a naggy little headache.  So much for my health woes.  Let’s post some monster pictures.

“You think YOU have a headache!”

Earlier today, I observed that my hair has grown out to the point where I either have to cut it or spend more time growing it before I will like it again.  I also thought it made kind of a square shape on the top of my head.  So I thought I probably looked like Frankenstein, and that made me feel happier about it.  My work friend, Karen, said my hair has been looking nice lately and pointed out that hair does need to be cut on a regular basis.  I personally want to do another St. Baldrick’s event and be bald.  Maybe in 2019.

Maybe Dr. Frankenstein should have put this brain in his monster.

This is a shot from The Brain From Planet Arous (1957).  I seem to remember it is a very silly movie, but since my brain is kind of throbbing, I thought it was appropriate.

One more picture and I’ll sign off.  Hmmm…

Everybody needs a little help sometimes.

I think if somebody would have offered that monster a nice cup of tea, a good many rampages could have been avoided.  Perhaps I shall have a cup of tea myself, although I do not feel inclined to go on a rampage at this time. Happy Friday, everyone!

Add more Monster Pictures and Keep Typing!

“You called?”

I am having a Nosferatu kind of a day.  By that I mean that I just feel like opening my blog with a picture of my favorite guy (uh, I mean my second favorite guy.  Obviously Steven is my FAVORITE guy).  And since it is Lame Post Friday, I shall. Oh who am I kidding?  When I feel like putting in a picture of a vampire, I do.  That is one of the things that makes blogging such a fun hobby.

I have had quite a day.  Work was stressful, but that was mostly my fault.  Fortunately, this is not a blog about work.  After work, I went and worked out.  It did not go as well as I could have hoped, but you’ll have that.  I feel certain that my body derived some benefit from it.  After coming home, having my usual recovery beverage of chocolate milk, and showering, I went out on a mission.

My mission was to find artificial tulips for props for Spring Into Murder.  I went to every dollar store in the area and then to Wal-Mart (I know, these are not the kinds of stores I normally plug, but in the interests of accuracy, I mention them).  I met success at my last stop.  If I have success in constructing the props, perhaps I will write a blog post titled Adventures in Tulips.

In the meantime, this is my Friday Lame Post.  Unfortunately, I see now that my picture of Nosferatu is completely unrelated to my post.  What to do?  Add more monster pictures and keep typing!

But the full moon is not until Sunday!

In fact, I do not intend to howl tonight.  I am sitting on my couch, chatting with my husband, and watching Dateline.  I believe another episode will follow, or at least one will be available on another channel.  I would like to crochet.  I think one more monster picture and I will be on my merry way.

Next Friday, I think I’ll go dancing!

Dinner Indecision on Lame Post Friday

Full disclosure:  I was supposed to cook.  Well, with one thing and another (one thing being working out after work, another being going to a tasting at Valley Wine and Liquor with my friend Kim), I wasn’t ready to start cooking till about 20 minutes before Steven was due home.  Only I didn’t feel like cooking.  I wondered if Steven would be interested in going out to dinner.  I kind of thought he would not be.  I wasn’t sure I was.  I had put on a cute outfit to go to the tasting (although I daresay I flatter myself), but I was also looking forward to the bra off, sweats on portion of the day.  And the wine drinking portion of the day.

At least I could do something about the latter.  I poured myself a glass of Chardonnay, put Snapped on the television, and awaited events.  In due course, Steven came come.  He didn’t mind that I had not started cooking but did not immediately commit to going out.

“Let’s have a glass of wine and think about it,” he suggested.

“I’ll make a quick blog post,”  I said.

He said, “A blog post about whether we’re going out to dinner or not?”

So that is what my blog post is about.  I think we are going to Salvatore’s in Herkimer.  As soon as I finish my wine and Steven gets changed.  I hope he puts on a cute outfit.
