Legs Were Broken!

It has totally been a Slacker Saturday today!  In my defense, I have been recruiting my energies for tonight’s performance of Morning’s at Seven at Ilion Little Theatre, which opened last night.  At least one of my loyal readers is interested in knowing how things went (Hello, Granny K!), so here it is:

WE ARE STARS!!!!!

Just felt like being dramatic (SO appropriate for a drama queen like me!).  But I will say that after the usual opening night jitters, the first performance went very well.  The audience seemed to enjoy it immensely, and we got some very kind compliments afterward.

Don’t we look about to kick some community theatre butt?

First we had to take the traditional pre-performance cast selfie.  At least, that is Kaylynn’s tradition.  She is the beautiful lady in the immediate foreground.  I have worked with her on other plays and murder mysteries, and she is always such a joy.  While I’m at it, I must give a shout-out to the entire cast and crew.  Oh, you don’t really want me to put everyone’s name, do you?  This isn’t an Oscar speech, after all.  Come see the show, and you can read all about us in the programme (the computer is underlining “programme,” but I wanted to give it the pretentious spelling) (and not for nothing, but why is is “pretentious” and not “pretencious” when it is “pretence”?  I mean, I can see why it is not “predendous” from “pretend,” because that would be silly) (But I digress).

I suppose some readers might want to hear a little more about last night’s performance.  Well, I will confess right off the bat that I messed up.  Almost big time.  First I forgot the end of a line, which my cast-mate needed to give her line.  Then I started to skip almost a whole page of necessary information.  In both instances, I caught myself and disaster was averted. I was, however, quite mortified.  For one reason, I am good at learning lines and am often the one to save others who find themselves in difficulties.  For another reason, THAT WAS THE SCENE I KNEW BEST!!!  I suppose I needed to look over my lines a few more times. 5,483 times is obviously superior to 5,479 times.  Let that be a lesson to me.

However, as I said, the audience seemed to enjoy the performance a lot. They were a wonderful audience: ready to laugh and be pleased.  I tell you, there is nothing better than being on stage and hearing sincere laughter.  I guess not so much if you are doing, for example, a Shakespearean tragedy, but this is a charming comedy.  And I believe the entire cast was charming.  I encourage local readers to come and see for yourselves.  Tell them Mohawk Valley Girl sent you.  And if I steered you wrong, feel free to break my leg.

Why Not Add Monsters?

It’s going to be a Slacker Saturday post, and I may not even pep it up with monster pictures.  Oh, who am I kidding?

I would probably take it as a compliment.

As long as I’m doing a foolish post, why not add monsters ?  Come to think of it, that might make a good title.

I am sitting on my couch , typing into my Tablet, one letter at a time with the stylus,  and as usual getting a kick out of the predictive text function.  I felt pretty okay for most of the day, particularly this morning,  when it was raining.  But then I took a nap on the couch and woke up with a headache .  I’m drinking water,  in case dehydration is a factor.  At least the water tastes good .

“Do you come here often?”

Speaking of hydration… here’s a guy who’s all wet.

I did go adventuring with my friend Kim earlier. It would be a good idea to write about that, but I just can’t do it with a headache .  Sorry.  I didn’t mean to whine.   Then again,  I do always say, go with your strengths.

I thought mentioning candy would be appropriate, since tomorrow is Easter.

I actually clicked on Joan Crawford accidentally when I was scrolling through my Media Library looking for one more monster.  I see I am over 200 words.   I say that’s okay for a Slacker Saturday .

Damn Laptop

Oh, I am in a bad mood now!  I was all set to make a Saturday Cinema post with illustrations when my laptop blacked out AGAIN! I hate computers. So here I am , on my tablet, typing hunt and peck with a stylus.  Not conducive,  to say the least .

I was having such an enjoyable evening too.  But one must deal with the circumstances at hand, and blog posts must be made.

I haven’t had the greatest Saturday,  but it has had its moments.  I had a good run as well as a not bad walk.  I wrote seven post cards, got some grocery shopping done, and cooked a not bad dinner.

We are currently watching horror movies,  cheesy and otherwise.  We’re on the third one so far.  I hope to get to at least one more.

Oh dear, less than 150 words.  How slowly it goes one letter at a time . Quick, Cindy, think of something else to say. …  Nothing comes to mind.

What I really need to do is get some real writing done.  It hasn’t happened yet this weekend.  But I cling to my rule of All Writing Counts.  Seven post cards is, I feel, not bad.  Additionally,  I made a brief note in the TV Journal .  I could write more there as the evening progresses .

In the meantime, I am at last over 200 words.  I’m going to call this a Slacker Saturday and drive on.

Agatha to Axes, it’s Slacker Saturday

I have not had a Slacker Saturday post in a while, and I have certainly had a slacker day today.  My husband, Steven, and I just hung out and relaxed.  We watched a few movies, though, so I will attempt a Saturday Cinema post before going back to relaxing.

Where, or where can I get a hat like that?

We started our viewing with Death on the Nile, a star-studded Agatha Christie which I love.  The above picture is Angela Lansbury in the truly delicious role of Salome Ottorbourne, writer of lurid romance novels and murder suspect.

After Death on the Nile, I was in the Agatha Christie mood so suggested we watch Ten Little Indians (1965) ,which I had DVR’d from TCM recently.  This is not to be confused with And Then There Were None (1945), which we own on DVD.  Both are based on the same book, of course.  However, in the 1945 version, the characters are on an island, as they are in the book.  In the version we watched today, they ride a cable car up a mountain.  I looked but could not find a picture of the movie we saw today.  How’s that for slacking?

Now we are watching a favorite of ours: Strait-Jacket (1964).  A William Castle thriller starring Joan Crawford as an ax murderess, how could I not love it?

Severed heads can be such bed hogs.

I suppose we should have saved it for a Severed Head Sunday.  I haven’t had one of those in a while either.  As for today, I feel my slacking off has extended to my blog post.  But at least I have included a couple of pictures. I’ll close with another of Joan.  Happy Saturday, everyone.

This is representative of the sort of editing some of my blog posts probably need.

What Do You Want from Me on Slacker Saturday?

I realized as I wrote my blog post last night that I was NOT having a Lame Post Friday, which I almost always do.  I was just so excited to write about the cheese play and use the pictures I took.  So now I feel free to make a Slacker Saturday post.  At least I’m making the post on the day I’m publishing it (according to my real calendar, not my WordPress timestamp, apparently).

The cheese play, Where’s the Cheesecake?, when very well.  We got a lot of laughs.  I had a little bit of cheese at the Little Falls Cheese Festival, but it was so warm, I did not want to stay long.  We went to Ruggiero’s Trattoria, sat at the bar in the air conditioning, and had a couple of drinks and a slice of pizza.  Then we came home and I fell asleep on the couch. We’ve been watching movies ever since.

It doesn’t sound like such an exciting day, does it? Well, I enjoyed it.  Oh, we also took a short walk to the post office and back to mail my weekly post cards. As I went into the post office, I ran into the man who is going to direct Fallen Angel, the play the Herkimer County Historical Society is going to put on at Ilion Little Theatre.  I told him to talk to Steven (who was waiting for me on the sidewalk) about auditioning.  So I may have some theatre news about that on a blog post soon (preview of coming attractions).

I see I am over 200 words.  Phew!  That’s enough for a blog post!  Thank you for tuning in, and I hope to see you all on Wrist to Forehead Sunday.

Scattered or Slacker, It’s Saturday

I’ve never been so popular the whole town would chase me.

I pause in our viewing of Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956) to make my Scattered Saturday post.  I had been going to do a Saturday Running Commentary, and we took a nice walk, making a Pedestrian Post perfectly eligible.  But I thought waiting till later in the day and posting during a movie would be fun, too.

My run was actually very good, even though I woke up with a headache.  I had coffee, Gatorade, and water before the run.  The headache did not slow me down but neither did it go away during the run.  You’ll have that sometimes.  After writing a few post cards, Steven graciously agreed to go for a walk with me.  We first walked to First Source Federal Credit Union to deposit a check, going by way of some construction at the end of our street, so we could check the progress.  I think it’s going to be a while.

We cut through Meyers Park to get to the post office.  Before I mailed my cards, I noted on the bulletin board a program at the Herkimer County Historical Society to be given by Sue Perkins, society director, on Wednesday, June 20 (preview of coming attractions).  I told Steven I would like to go.

“What’s it about?”  he asked.

“I don’t remember, but Sue Perkins, Historical Society, that’s all I need to know.”  I later noted in the paper it is about how Herkimer used to look vs. how it looks now. I am quite interested.

After the post office, we stopped at Basloe Library, then went home.  A short time later we left again to pick up a prescription of mine at The Medicine Shoppe in Illion, with Steven making a quick foray into Ilion Wine and Liquor.  My headache still had not gone away, so I laid down for a while when we got home again.

I guess we did not do such a lot to make this a really good Scattered Saturday post. Maybe more of a Slacker Saturday?  No matter. There are movies to be watched and wine to be enjoyed.  Happy Saturday, everyone.

Slacker Saturday, But Let’s Have Some Champagne.

Well, no Saturday Running Commentary, because I didn’t run; no Scattered Saturday, because I didn’t do a whole lot; no Slacker Saturday, because I at least did a little something; no Saturday Supper, because, oh I just don’t feel like retailing that whole thing I put together for our evening meal.  I guess maybe it is a Slacker Saturday, though, at least blog-wise.  Oh, who am I kidding?  I did a little something but it was certainly little enough to make a Slacker Saturday post perfectly eligible.

The weather was supposed to be a whole lot worse than it actually was. It was bad enough to keep me close to home.  I did venture out to do some grocery shopping, but I did not patronize a distinctive local store such as I love to highlight in this space.

I also ventured out to Valley Wine and Liquor in Herkimer for a Korbel and Chambord tasting.  That is, Korbel Champagne and Chambord Raspberry Liquor, mixed together.  I also tasted the champagne by itself.  It was Brut, which is dry, which is what I like.  I bought some.  Steven and I may mimose tomorrow.  We already have some orange juice in the fridge.  Or I may just sip it from a flute.  I love sipping champagne from a champagne flute.

We are currently watching Deadly Women, an ID (Investigation Discover) original series, On Demand.  It is sufficiently cheesy to be appropriate for a Slacker Saturday.  I would like to watch a movie next. I wonder if we could find something suitable to write tomorrow’s blog post about.  Time will tell.  In the meantime, I hope you are having a lovely weekend.
