Category Archives: Wrist to Forehead Sunday

What? No Sunday Swoon?

I am beginning to think I need a different feature to replace Wrist to Forehead Sunday.  Lately I do not possess the requisite oomph to swoon, dramatically posed with the back of one wrist to my forehead, on a handy chaise lounge or elsewhere.  I know some of you are asking, how much energy does it take to swoon?  Very little, I confess, for an ordinary swoon.  But for a Wrist to Forehead Sunday swoon, I need to be dramatic!  Surely you understand (it seemed a good moment to call you Shirley).

Now there is a dramatic swoon!

I throw in a picture from my Media Library to pep things up.  It is from Mad Love, a delightfully creepy movie.  I am ready to start watching Halloween movies.  I do not have Mad Love on DVD, but I think it is still on my DVR from when I recorded it off TCM.

This is me being dramatic.

Here is the picture I was looking for when I found that one of the swoon.  I am the one in blue, wrist to forehead, sobbing,  “Oh shame!  Oh degradation!”  It was in Dirty Work at the Crossroads, a,1890’s melodrama directed by my husband, Steven, at Ilion Little Theatre in 2013.  It was a fun scene to play, but it took a lot more energy than I seem to have these days.

So basically I need something for Sunday similar to Tired Tuesday, only I can’t think of anything alternative.  I do like alliteration.  Then I ask myself, what is my problem that I have to have so many days when I can’t seem to make a decent blog post.  What’s that all about, me?

In the meantime,  it seems I have blathered on for almost 300 words (isn’t “blathered” a word? my autocorrect wants to change it to “slathered”). I say that is not bad.  I’ll work on making a better blog post tomorrow.

Columbo, Can You Help Me Now?

I am not having a Wrist to Forehead Sunday today for the simple fact that I am too tired to raise my wrist that high.  Wow, how pathetic is that?  What a big, lazy baby I am!  I mean, how much trouble is it to swoon dramatically?  Too much, apparently.  So I sit on the couch, trying to make some post, any post.

“One more thing.”

As I type (one letter at a time with the stylus), I am looking at an episode of Columbo on DVD.  I love Columbo.

Earlier today I went for a run.  I went grocery shopping, made some things for my week’s lunches, and fixed a tasty dinner for my husband, Steve, and me.  I suppose I could have come up with OK blog posts about any of those activities.  Hmmm… nope.  They just don’t move me.

I know, I know, one must not wait for inspiration nor to be in the mood to write.  We have been over this.  Can I think of anything new to say about it?  How about this:  this blog is my hobby.  I do it because it is fun.  I enjoy it.  Sometimes it is more of an effort than others, but I find that I am usually happy that I have made the effort.  It is like running in that respect:  you have to put up with the crap runs to get to the good ones.

Oh dear, that sounds like some of my blog posts are crap posts.  SAY IT AIN’T SO!!!

The point I was going for was that I like to blog about what moves me at the moment.  At the moment, I do not feel particularly moved.  However, I have managed to rattle on for over 250 words.  Steven has started another episode of Columbo.  I would like to watch it.

Lost Love’s Labour?

Can I make a Wrist to Forehead Sunday Post?  I am feeling like swooning on a handy chaise lounge, dramatically posed with the back of one wrist to my forehead.  Of course I have no such chaise lounge available. What I do have is a dreadful case of Post Play Letdown.  Yes, it can kick in thus soon after the end of the play.

Full disclosure: I am mostly feeling happy right now.  I was in a play!  And people liked it!   It mostly went well.  I remembered most of my lines.  What more could I ask for?

Me, wondering what else I could ask for.

I feel very relieved that I have no rehearsals to go to in the coming week.  I feel strongly inclined to never put myself in the position of having to have to go to rehearsals ever again.

People who know anything at all about theatre people know this is a lot of hooey.  Not have to go to rehearsal?  That would mean I would never do any form of theatre again.  That’s crazy talk!

In fact, after the performance as most of the cast enjoyed food and drink at Mangia Macrina’s Pizza in Little Falls,  NY (just to sneak in a plug of s local business), the subject of murder mysteries came up.  OK, I brought it up.  But several people expressed interest.

And so it goes.  One show ends, another one starts.  How soon does it start?  We shall see.  As always, I hope you’ll stay tuned.

But Is It a Reasonably Entertaining Post?

It’s not easy being me, but it is reasonably entertaining.

That is a favorite saying of mine (one which I made up myself, I add, because I feel rather pleased with it).  I do not know if this week’s Wrist to Forehead Sunday post will properly illustrate it, but I can only try.  It is after 6 p.m., late in the day for me, at least on a Sunday.  It has been a stultifyingly hot and humid day (oh, stop playing that miniature violin; heat is a legitimate problem for me).  I have not gotten done all I had hoped.  OK, I have gotten done very little of what I had hoped.  Why DO I  get my hopes up?  It is very silly of me.

Where was I? Ah yes, Wrist to Forehead Sunday, the day on which I feel inclined to swoon, dramatically posed with the back of one wrist to my forehead, on the chaise lounge which I hope one day will grace my house.  In the meantime,  a couch or bed will have to do.

I went for a run this morning (I believe I mentioned it in my Saturday post, which I made late) (why do I insist on calling attention to my numerous late posts?).  I have done an unusual two loads of laundry, one clothes, one towels.  I went grocery shopping.  I went to the liquor (I guess I ought not count that under the heading of Useful Things).  I tried to make guacamole (that might be worth a whole blog post).  I chopped celery and radishes, made a salad, and fixed tomorrow’s lunch.  I washed the dishes I dirtied in doing so.

Well, all of that does not sound reasonably entertaining,  even to me.  But here is a question: why did autocorrect change “chopped” to “stopped”? Chopped is definitely a word.  Why would anybody stop celery and radishes?  Points to ponder.

In the meantime,  I see I am over 300 words.  Reasonably entertaining words? I can only hope.  I cordially invite you all to tune in tomorrow, when I hope to make a Pre-Rehearsal Post.  All Love’s Labour’s Lost All The Time,  remember?

More a Scattered Post than a Scattered Sunday

I had a little trouble with WordPress over the weekend with the result that I last posted Friday morning (Thursday’s post, by the way) and it was not actually posted. It seems I neglected to click on something to confirm something, blah blah woof woof.  I am so in the wrong century.  The main thing I have gained from the computer era, and this occurred in the last century,  is the perfect summation of my life:  Operator Error.  One good thing is that I find myself perfectly set up for a Wrist to Forehead Sunday Post.

I’m the tough one brandishing the pitch fork.

However, rather than continuing to lament my ills, I wanted to share this blast from my past that showed up in my Facebook Memories.  It is Much Ado At the Zoo, when LiFT, Little Falls Theatre Company presented Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing at the Utica Zoo in 2016 (do I really need to tell anybody it is Shakespeare’s? Oh, I suppose I do).

Right now I should be studying my lines for Love’s Labour’s Lost, which we are doing this year (perhaps you read one of my blog posts about it).  I will read through them before I go to bed.

In other news, I went running this morning for the first time in two months.  It went pretty well. I enjoyed it.  I wanted to make a Running Commentary Post, only I did not solve my WordPress problems till later in the day, and the moment had passed.

I see I am over 250 words.  I think I will bill this as a Scattered Sunday.  I hope I have done all the right things and can continue to post on a daiy basis.  Then again, a little uncertainty adds interest to my life.  Happy Sunday, everyone!

Many Adventures, Not Enough Posts

Here it is, late (for me) into a Sunday evening,  and I have made neither a Saturday nor a Sunday post.  Wrist to Forehead Sunday indeed.  But before I swoon and faint dead away, I will attempt a Preview of Coming Attractions, because I have had a few Mohawk Valley Adventures recently. I hope to make fuller blog posts in the coming days.

Who doesn’t love a pig with a sheep and a crow on top?

Thursday I went to A Little Touch of Country,  a lovely gift shop on South Washington Street in Herkimer, NY.  I definitely want to write more about them.

Fun lady, fun wines!

Valley Wine and Liquor in Herkimer has been having tastings every weekend, and I have been to several.  I take tasting notes, so I really ought to write more about them.

I love that dog!

I mentioned the Doodah Parade in Ilion. Well, here are a few more participants.  I did not take a whole lot of pictures, but I took enough for another blog post.

Who, us? Kill our husbands?

Saturday night, my friend Kim and I participated in a fundraiser for the historic Herkimer County jail.  We impersonated local murderesses from the past.  I KNOW my readers want to hear about that! Or do I flatter myself?  No matter, I see I am over 200 words.  Phew!  And I will just have to owe you one for Saturday.  Put it on my tab.

Just Another Slacker Sunday

I tried to make a blog post earlier but once again ran afoul of my Media Library.  I said to hell with it and was going to trust my luck in the morning but decided to give it one more try.  Imagine my delight when I found I could select Classic Editor.  Will it help me make a better post? We shall see.

It has been something of a Slacker Sunday.  I went for a two mile walk but not till later in the morning.  Still later I did a load of laundry.  Just now I finally made my lunch for tomorrow.  Other than that, I watched movies and read a novel.

The post I started to write was a Sunday Cinema post, since we had enjoyed one of my favorites, Severed Head Sunday.  That was when I got bogged down searching my Media Library for pictures I was quite certain I had shared before.  Only after I failed to find them did I think, why should I repeat myself this way?  Obviously I have talked about these movies before.  Do I have anything new to say about them?  Quite possibly I do, but we will not find that out tonight.

So I guess this is yet another post about Why I Can’t Make a Blog Post Today.  Talk about repeating myself!  What the hell, me?  On the brighter side, I am over 200 words and tomorrow’s lunch is made.  That makes this less of a Wrist to Forehead Sunday.  I’ll just get back to dreading Monday.  Once again, thank you for tuning in.

I Should Make a Better Blog Post

I can hardly have a Wrist to Forehead Sunday when I have Monday off, can I? I mean, isn’t that the main reason we feel inclined to swoon, dramatically posed with the back of one wrist to our forehead (I feel better if I explain it every time): the thought that we return to the work-a-day world tomorrow? I should feel relaxed and happy, shouldn’t I? Then again, when have I ever done what I should?

The only thing I got done today was the grocery shopping, which was actually kind of a big deal, since I blew it off last Sunday. I went around eight this morning to beat the crowd, but I didn’t finish putting away all the groceries till just now. In fact, since my bottle of shampoo is sitting at the bottom of the stairs waiting for me to take it up the next time I go, one could argue that I still haven’t put them all away. Hey, at least the ice cream made it to the freezer.

I spent most of the day reading a romance novel. In my defense, it was by Georgette Heyer, the queen of Recency romance. Perhaps that is not much of a defense, but I do what I can. Judge me if you are so inclined.

I went for a walk just before finishing putting the groceries away. You see, I started to make this post, realized I had very little to say and thought to do a Pedestrian Post. Additionally, I thought it might help me sleep better. I had tried to take a walk first thing this morning but cut it short, because my stomach was upset. Unfortunately it was a very uneventful walk.

Dull days make for dull blog posts. On the brighter side, if you could call it that, now that I have made a dull blog post, I have a reason to swoon, wrist to forehead fashion. If you have continued reading thus far, thank you for tuning in.

Columbo, Can You Help Me Now?

Another Sunday and once again I feel inclined to swoon, dramatically posed with the back of one wrist to my forehead, on a handy chaise lounge. Regular readers may recall that I have no such lounge. One must make do with what one has.

I have been enjoying my day, alternately sitting on the front porch and watching movies while knitting. My only disappointment has been that it was not a rainy day as predicted. I do love a rainy Sunday with movies. Then again, because it did not rain, we were able to sit out on the porch.

My Sunday date.

I am once again watching an episode of Columbo on DVD. Columbo seems like a Sunday thing to me. Older readers may point out that Columbo was originally part of a Sunday night series of mystery movies. MacMillan and Wife was part of the series but did not have the same staying power. I first got into Columbo when he returned to the air in the late ’80’s.

So much for my stroll down TV Memory Lane.

I only have the first season on Columbo on DVD (see previous remark about making do with what one has) but would like to eventually have the whole series. Then I could watch an episode every Sunday. Of course I would not want to blog about it every week.

For this week, however, I see I am over 200 words. Score! As always, I shall try for a better blog post tomorrow.
