Great Saturday, Late Post

What a Scattered Saturday I had!  It included everything but making my blog post (I bet you thought I was going to say “everything but the kitchen sink”)!  So here I am, up earlier than usual on a Sunday morning, trying to take up the slack.

I got up earlier than usual yesterday morning, too, with the result that I went running in the dark.  I had last run on Thursday, and that run was terrible. It had me questioning my ability to make the Reindeer Run 5K in Little Falls in December.  Well, not seriously questioning it.  More like questioning how well I was going to run it.

Well, yesterday’s run was AWESOME!  I felt my running mojo was BACK!  I even added 10 percent to the length of my run, which I had not planned to do till Sunday.  I thought it would be a great run to make a Running Commentary post about.

Unfortunately,  when I got home, I had a headache.  I felt rather ill-used about this, especially since I had purposely NOT tied one on on Friday (despite making my blog post about wine).  I had a volunteer commitment at 10 (please be there by 9:30), so this was a problem.  I took some OTC painkillers and heated up my face thing.  I have this face mask with herbs my Mom got me. You heat it in the microwave and lie down with it.  It’s not always the miracle I’m hoping for, but it always feels good.

The headache didn’t entirely leave me, but I was ready at 9 when my friend Kim picked me up to go to the Character Brunch fundraiser for RCIL.  I will definitely write more about that later, with pictures!

After I got back home,  Steven and I went out to the Waterfront Grille in Herkimer for a late lunch.  Another fun time I hope to write more about! Then it was home and on to the Halloween movie watching portion of the day.

Alas, this was when I fell asleep.  Not right away, of course.  I knitted, finishing a Halloween colored scarf, and enjoyed some Halloween entertainment.

And now I have completed another late blog post.  I am quite determined to make my Sunday blog post today.  We’ll see how I do.

Wining on Friday

Ah, wine.

My friend Bruce is always commenting on Facebook that it is wine time.  At this point in my Friday, I am inclined to agree.  I unexpectedly spent an extra two hours at work.  While I am very grateful for the overtime, I am TIRED!  Oh, don’t tell me to not complain, complaining is a time honored tradition for many of us, and a usually reliable method for letting off steam.

Where was I? Ah yes, Lame Post Friday.  I know, yesterday’s post was not exactly able bodied (isn’t that the opposite of lame?).  When have I ever hesitated to make multiple foolish posts in a row?

Another example of wine time.

Looking through my Media Library for more illustrations to pep up the post,  I came across this one of my husband, Steven, enjoying a glass at the Waterfront Grille in Herkimer, NY.  What, did you think I was drinking alone?  Full disclosure: I have enjoyed a solitary beverage on occasion.  Today, I join my husband in a glass (he got in first, then I saw if there was room for me).

I’m only a little hidden by Tracy’s glass.

I had to search for a picture of myself with wine.  That is because I am usually the one taking the pictures. This is our friend Tracy and me on  different visit to the Waterfront Grille.

Well, that’s three pictures and over 200 words.  I call that OK on a Lame Post Friday.  Happy Weekend,  everyone!

Will My Next Post Be From Jail?

Oh dear.  As I was sitting here trying to think of something to write a blog post about, the phone rang.  Not recognizing the number on my Caller ID on TV,  I let the machine pick it up.  It turns out, I am being sued by the Social Security Administration. At least, the first part of the recorded message was cut off, so maybe my husband, Steven, is the one being sued.

Obviously I am now too stressed to make a proper blog post.  I didn’t know government agencies sued people. I thought they garnished your wages or threw you in jail (as a side note: when people talk about garnishing wages, am I the only one that flashes on sprigs of parsley?). Perhaps I should listen to the message again…

Filing a lawsuit AND an arrest warrant.  And the beginning of the message was not cut off; they just didn’t say who the message was for. They told me to press one now, but obviously I could not do that, since I had not picked up the phone at the time.

Anyways, it gave me three paragraphs of a blog post.  I think I’ll still be able to sleep tonight as well as avoid stress eating over a potential lawsuit or arrest. But I will definitely keep you posted on any further developments.

A Few Fabulous Photos

A truly fabulous cast!

This post is going to be heavy on pictures, but I think that will be acceptable, because they are fabulous pictures!  These were taken by the Herkimer County Historical Society of Fabulous and Fatal, the murder mystery we put on as a benefit last Friday (perhaps you read a few of my blog posts about it).  Things did not go as rehearsed, because one actor decided at the last minute not to participate.  But that is the excitement of live theatre!  We made it work.  The audience was entertained, and we had fun.

Steve and I: the couple that plays together, stays together!

Who says a drag queen can’t have a beard? I think he’s pretty!

For that matter, who says a drag queen can’t be a woman!

And here is a true Drama Queen!

“J’accuse!”

I end with a most dramatic shot.  They say a picture is worth a thousand words.  I certainly hope that is true, because I have not attained my usual 200 words. I’m going to call it OK for a Tired Tuesday.

Chillaxing with Joan and Others

I understand the frustration,

I was scrolling through my Media Library,  looking for a picture I was sure I had from The Invisible Man starring Claude Rains. Then I found this lovely shot of Joan Crawford in Straitjacket, which we watched earlier.  I said this morning that Steve and I were going to spend the day “chillaxing,” a word I had never actually used in a conversation before.  Then I noted that chillaxing would be best enjoyed with an actual ax.

What a waste to not let the great Rains use his face!

Here’s my boy Claude, with the lovely Gloria Stuart.  The movie also features another favorite of ours, Una O’Connor.

“Somebody’s been sleeping in my bed!”

I couldn’t find Una, but here’s another picture of Joan in Straitjacket.  You may have guessed by now this is going to be a particularly foolish Monstrous Monday post.  I only feel happy to be posting on Monday and not early Tuesday morning.

We had a fun weekend, and I took today off for rest and recovery.  I don’t know how wisely I used my time, but we have enjoyed watching a few Halloween movies.

Now there’s a good use for an ax!

Now that my murder mystery is over, I hope to get back to more and better writing.  Starting with tomorrow’s blog post.

Happy Birthday, Bela!

I cannot figure out how to get pictures from my Tablet to my blog.  That could have something to do with the amount of wine I have been drinking.  Hey!  It is my anniversary!  Don’t judge, there, Judgy McJudgerson!

I thought I could do a Sunday Cinema, but I guess it will be without illustration. I’ll have to owe you some pictures.

We started out with White Zombie, (1932), because it stars Bela Lugosi, and Oct. 20 is his birthday.  How cool is that, that I got married on Bela Lugosi’ s birthday!  I only knew I did years later. Full disclosure: we were not that nuts about the movie.  It was kind of slow and boring, to us anyways.

We went with something more fast moving next: Plan 9 from Outer Space (1959).  I know, many count that as The Worst Movie Ever.  I say they are wrong,. I have argued this before and will again,  no doubt.

Steven fell asleep by the end of the movie,  so I put in Nightmare Castle (1965).  It is pretty creepy. I love a cheesy Halloween movie.  I hope to do a better post with pictures at some future date.  In the meantime,  I am quite content to be lounged on the couch, typing in one letter at a time with the stylus on my Tablet. Happy Anniversary,  me!

Murder, Wine, Just Another Scattered Saturday

I shall attempt a Scattered Saturday post,  but no promises. I am still tired and shaken after what turned out to be a wonderful theatre experience with Fabulous and Fatal, our murder mystery at the Travel Lodge in Little Falls to benefit the Herkimer County Historical Society.

Quite frankly, I expected to wake up hung over.  However, I did not, and remembering how much I actually drank, that is not surprising. I nursed my Cabernet Sauvignon, because I was performing.  Incidentally,  the performance went awesomely.  I will write more about it when I have some pictures to share.

This morning I went for a run.  Later we had some breakfast at Mona’s in Mohawk.  Later yet we went to a wine tasting at Valley Wine and Liquor in Herkimer.  Yum!  Then it was a quick trip to the Marina in Frankfort, NY and a drink or two at Heelpath Brewing Company.  Untamed Red by Rustic Ridge Winery in Burlington Flats.  Yum!

Now we are home, having arrived at the bra off, sweats on, wine drinking, movie watching portion of the day.  What Halloween movies will we watch?  I may list them tomorrow, having a Saturday and Sunday Cinema post.  As always,  no promises,  but I hope you will all stay tuned.

What Would Peter Cushing Do?

I’m thinking all I can manage right now is a Non-Sequitur Thursday post.  We had our final rehearsal for Fabulous and Fatal,  the murder mystery we are presenting to benefit the Herkimer County Historical Society tomorrow night.  Yikes! Then Steve and I had some dinner at Salvatore’s in Herkimer.  Now we are home, looking at 20/20 on OWN, and feeling a little sorry we did not tune in earlier sooner,  since it is a case we also saw covered on Snapped.

OK, I just scrolled all the way through my Media Library twice looking for a graphic of 20/20.  How do I not have such a graphic? No matter, I suppose.  Only, a blog post pops more with illustration. I wonder if I can find something else.

No, I can’t.

“Then what am I doing here?”

I realized anything could work on Non-Sequitur Thursday,  so I hit on this shot of Christopher Lee as The Mummy.  He looks rather sad.  I don’t remember seeing this movie, but cannot be sure I haven’t seen it.

“I want my mummy!”

I guess he does not necessarily want his mummy, but I thought it would be a funny caption.  There is a window nearby out of which Michael Meyers looks.  I must get a picture of it.

“Haven’t I been in another blog post like this?”

Regular readers will not be surprised that I close with Nosferatu.  I say anything goes on Non-Sequitur Thursday.  If only I can think of a catchy title…

Planning Ahead After Not Planning Supper

How about a fast shout-out to one of our favorite local businesses instead of my usual Wuss-out Wednesday.  It has not been the best of Wednesdays for me, largely because my body kept thinking it was Thursday. I hate these time warps, especially when I have to keep reminding myself that I am NOT one day closer to Friday (those of you who work weekends,  don’t hate on me, just substitute “next day off” for Friday).

When I came home, my husband Steve told me he had not gotten anything out of the freezer for supper.  I suggested a few meals, but I pretty much knew where he was headed.  I only felt bad for making a delivery person come out in the rain.  Then again, these are the hazards of the job.

We called our beloved Salvatore’s, getting chicken wings Siciliano and a small antipasto salad.  The good thing about these choices is (1) I can take leftover salad for my lunch tomorrow and (2) I can grab a leftover chicken wing tomorrow after work before we hustle off to rehearsal.  You see how I think ahead.  You might almost suspect I have my act together.  Nah!

Salvatore’s is located at 650 1/2 German St., Herkimer, NY, phone number 315-866-2600.

Respectable Run for a Tired Tuesday

I went running today in hopes of making a Running Commentary post.  Also in hopes of burning a few calories and getting closer to my weight loss goals.  Well, I blew the progress toward the weight loss goals by eating a few very delicious treats.  I have no regrets. Let’s see how I do on the blog post.

I did not get right to the run, as I prefer to do.  In fact,  I thought I had talked myself put of it.  Instead, I found myself putting on running clothes and gathering a load of laundry. My favorite multi-task is to out a load in the washer and run while it washes. Actually,  it is one of my only multi-tasks. Most of the time I can barely task, but let us not discuss my shortcomings.

Soon I was plodding down the sidewalk, feeling as if I had not run for days.  It has only been two, but I have not been running nearly enough.  I made up my mind to continue.  For one reason, I couldn’t take my shower till the washer was done.  This is why it is my favorite multi-task.

It was a beautiful warm, sunny day.  Perfect fall weather.  I enjoyed looking at the changing leaves and at people’s Halloween decorations.  I also enjoyed looking at my shadow when the sun was behind me.  How slender I looked!  What legs!  Of course, the angle of the sun elongated me into a far more flattering silhouette than I deserve.  Never mind that; it kept me running.

It was not all that good of a run.  For the most part I was tired and wanted to stop. However, I persevered for 24 minutes plus a 10 minute cool down walk.  I consider that respectable for a mid-week run.  Similarly, this post is now 300 words.  I say, respectable for a Tired Tuesday.
