Was I Chilling Out?

I’m back to my old tricks of late, foolish posts, but, as a co-worker likes to say, you’ll have that. At least, with this blog you will. I make no apologies but mention it with perhaps a bit of sheepishness. I intend to bill this as a Tired Tuesday Post, because I was in fact too tired to attempt event anything foolish.

Yesterday was the coldest day so far this winter. How the times have changed! I remember when Steve and I lived in the North Country (Norwood, NY to be exact). We would have stretches of days when the temperatures did not make it above zero. Oh, how happy we were when we got a heat wave of 2 degrees, and when we got to double digits — woohoo! And when we had to or wanted to leave the house (apartment), we damn well did and made no bones about it.

So much for the trip down memory lane. As the cliche goes, that was then and this is now. My point in bringing it up is that I blame yesterday’s tiredness on being cold all day long. My place of employment is not well insulated, and there is are large doors that open and close at irregular intervals. YES, I am happy I have a job! Please don’t start with the Just-Be-Thankful-Thats. You know who you are, and I find it a singularly annoying thing to hear.

Anyways, I have blathered on for at least 200 words (over 250 by the time I get to the end of this paragraph). Perhaps I should apologize about the dull content of the post. Bitching about winter weather in Central New York. How singularly unoriginal. I’ll blame it on brain freeze.

Late Monsters, Silly Post

It has not really been a particularly monstrous Monday. My struggles with depression continue. Still, there is no point in bogging down the blog with my petty complaints. Let’s see if I can find a good monster in my Media Library.

He is scary. I like him.

That is as far as I got on Monday. Well, what is wrong with a few late posts anyways? I suppose I could think of a few things, but we’ll let that slide.

Oh, this is Nosferatu, as many of you no doubt know. It has been 100 years since that wonderfully frightening silent movie made its first appearance. 1922. Regular readers may remember that 22 is my favorite number. It ought to bode well for the year, yet I confess to some feelings of trepidation (my $4 word for the morning).

Where was I? Ah yes, Monstrous Monday

Why choose a favorite? Can’t I have them all?

For the record, it is a lot easier to maneuver through my Media library on the laptop (dining-room-table-top, as regular readers may recall). Not to mention the joy of ten-fingered typing (sentence fragment, sue me).

Speaking of who can pick a favorite…

OK, three pictures, 200 words. I call that respectable. Now I have to finish getting ready for work. I hope you have enjoyed my silliness. I have. I find it alleviates the depression referred to in the first paragraph.

In Haste and By the Way

So I made Saturday’s post on Sunday, and here I am early Monday morning, trying to make Sunday’s post. Not too early, though, so I don’t have a lot of time to make a really good post. These things happen, and we must make the best of them.

What I wanted to share was this: Steve and I both got parts in Game Show, the next play at Ilion Little Theater. Yay and yikes! Can we learn our lines? Will we successfully develop believable characters? Will the Mohawk Valley weather allow us to get to rehearsals? For the answers to these and other burning questions (they are likely to be burning questions, because I will no doubt have another hot flash), tune in to the next post of Mohawk Valley Girl.

Rats!

I was doing so well posting every day, then last night I just fell asleep on the couch without posting. Now I have a dreadful headache from sleeping with my neck bent the wrong way. I shall try the effects of a hot shower in a bit, but I first thought I would post a quick little apology for missing a day.

Hmm…. I hope nobody reads my headline and thinks my house has rats. I do like to indulge in plays on words. Anyways, that gives me something to be thankful for: we don’t have rats and haven’t even seen any mice for a long time (hope I haven’t just jinxed myself).

So I guess yesterday was a Blogger’s Sick Day, even though I wasn’t exactly sick. I’ll try for a better blog post later. We did have a couple of Mohawk Valley Adventures yesterday.

Late Post, Random Pics

As so often happens, Monday’s good intentions went to hell on Tuesday. So here I am on Wednesday morning with not enough time for a real post but a few random pictures to share. I just now took the pictures. Does that count as Doing Something? Let’s pretend it does.

Aren’t they cute?

Steven has been after me to take a picture of the frog on the left. He purchased it from an artist friend.

I’d like to take a few detail shots.

Having more ambition than me, Steven Christmas-ized our mantle. You see the ghost had gotten into the, so to speak, spirit of things. Bonita is still working on her outfit.

You had me at Vincent Price.

Steven gave me the Vincent Price Pumpkin Spice coffee for an anniversary present in October. He put the bag around the bottle with the witchy stopper for photo op purposes, but I neglected to take the picture till just now.

Full disclosure: I may be late with my Wednesday post as well, because we plan to make our usual trip to Fratello’s in Frankfort, NY for food and music. Phillip Arcuri is playing.

I Like Vincent Price

Once a long time ago when we were looking for a movie to watch, my husband Steve started reading to me a description of a Vincent Price movie coming up on TCM. An adaptation of a story by Edgar Allen Poe, directed by Roger Corman, also starring etc etc

“You had me at Vincent Price,” I interrupted. I thought I was pretty cute to say it, but perhaps I flatter myself.

We recently watched two Price/Corman/Poe collaborations (if Poe can be said to collaborate when he is dead and all they did was use his story, taking considerable liberties with it). I would like to do real movie write-ups on them, as I have done with other cheesy horror movies, but that will not happen this morning. For one reason, I remember very little about The Tomb of Ligeia. For another, I am typing in this Monstrous Monday Post on Tuesday morning (regular readers knew I was not entirely done with late blog posts). I do not have a lot of time.

No photo description available.
Dramatic, yes?

The above is an image from The Tomb of Ligeia, which we watched last Sunday. I finally managed to copy it from Facebook but could not figure out how to make it larger.

Creepy movie, yes.

Oh crap, I did not realize the image had “THEMONSTERCHANNEL.COM” printed over it. There may be a way to get rid of it, or I could look for another image. But look at the time. I need to get a few other things done before I leave for work. Additionally, I am over 200 words. That is better than I have been doing lately. This must do for my Monstrous Monday Post. Bring on the rest of Tuesday!

Late Post, Tired Shout-out

So I did pretty good for a few days at posting every day, then last night I went to bed unblogged. In my defense I voted and had rehearsal. Additionally, I got very little sleep Monday night and had a frustrating day at work. Then again my work day could have been worse, and I slept better last night. Under the heading Count My Blessings.

Where was I? Ah yes, making Late Tired Tuesday Post. How about a brief shout-out for our murder mystery, which is this Saturday (yikes!).

These posters are up all over town.

Donate to Murder, written by me by the way, is interactive dinner theatre, in which the audience gets to meet the characters, ask questions and try to solve the mystery, while enjoying a delicious meal catered by Dominick’s Deli. The event, which is a benefit for the Herkimer County Historical Society, takes place at Herkimer Elks Lodge, doors open at 5:30 p.m. with dinner at 6:30 p.m.

I guess all the information in the preceding paragraph is in the poster. I guess I’m still a little tired.

Fun Party, Late Post

For this week’s Monstrous Monday Post, I thought I would share a few pictures of the Boo Bash at the Herkimer VFW last Saturday. Unfortunately, after I had downloaded the pictures from my camera, I was too tired to finish the post on Monday. So I thought I could finish it the next day and market it as a Tired Tuesday post. And now here I am Wednesday morning and still nothing published. Judge me if you are so inclined.

Steven especially liked the Reindeer antlers.

Our friend Tracy was visiting us from out of town. At her current job she is known as a woman who wears many hats. She decided to embrace it for her costume and wear almost every hat she owns. I should have taken several views, because you can’t see all the hats. I missed a bet!

I liked Steve’s had, too.

Steven kept it simple with a Halloween sweatshirt and pumpkin hat. I walked around snapping a few pictures of the decor.

He looks as if he’s making a little bow.

Nice centerpieces.
The bartender said this was his brother.

The DJ was from Bug Country, a local country radio station. He kept the party going with door prizes and good music.

He was fun.
A closer look at his costume.
He brought a couple friends.

There were a lot of fun costumes, but I only got a picture of my favorite. During the costume competition, I was among the people chanting, “Bridezilla! Bridezilla!”

Her groom was pretty cool, too.

After I took the picture, Bridezilla laughed at herself because she was smiling behind the mask. There were a lot of reasons to smile. It was a fun night.

Why in the world did it take me three days to make a post about it? Discuss amongst yourselves.

Fighting Lightheadedness and Autocorrect

I guess posting in the morning is a thing with me these days. Right now I am fighting the lightheadedness that periodically plagues me, but you’ll have that. (You know what else you’ll have: autocorrect putting capital letters where you don’t want them! I hope I manage to go back and fix them all) (And yet autocorrect let stand “fiz” for “fix”) (but I digress).

Where was I? Ah yes, making a Throwback Thursday Post, although since it is actually Friday morning (although my WordPress timestamp may not agree), we could also call it a Non-Sequitur Thursday. Or even Lame Post Friday! But let us not get bogged down in labels.

I contemplate myself.

This is only throwing back to June, when I ran in the Pride Stride 5K in Little Falls, NY. I am no hand at taking selfies.

I’m in the background of this one.

Here is a theatre throwback! It is Matt Powers mingling with the audience in Secrets at Suiter House, a murder mystery we did to benefit the Herkimer County Historical Society.

I’m not in this one.

This is a weird shot from December 2020, which of course was a kind of a weird time, for me and for others. I was taking a walk trying to get pictures of Christmas lights when I saw this leftover Halloween ghost. Or was it?

I see I have reached 200 words (in another officious autocorrect action, that almost read “00”). Score! I do not always reach that self-imposed goal these days. I hope you enjoyed my pictures. Thank you for tuning in.

My Brain is a Lame Metaphor

I am not even going to apologize for making my Lame Post Friday post on Saturday morning. I have been missing a day here and there, and I feel bad about that. Apparently not bad enough to go ahead and post every day, but these things happen.

This morning I feel drained. We had a full day yesterday. We plan more shenanigans today. I am just now taking my first sips of coffee. I feel a glimmering of life returning to my body if not my mind.

The fact is, I have once again been having the damnedest time writing. I just squeezed that second paragraph out, wringing it from my brain drip by painful drip (side note: autocorrect made (“brain drip” be “raindrop.” I hate officious editors!). It also took some effort to make that a metaphor instead of a simile. I prefer metaphor.

Speaking of metaphor, here is a longtime saying of mine. When somebody says, “You catch more flies with honey than vinegar,” I say, “You catch the most flies of all with a pile of shit.” After they stop laughing, I say, “And who wants to catch flies?” Also, “Give me a metaphor, I’ll beat it till it screams.”

Well, that’s 200 words. Autocorrect made “200” be “00.” Everybody’s a critic!
