Wuss-out Wednesday With Witches

I can’t wait to put her out again this year!

I was afraid I would have another Blogger’s Sick Day.  Then I thought I could manage a Mid-Week Monsters post.  Unfortunately I made a Monstrous Monday post.  Dare I have too many monsters?  So I thought a Wuss-out Wednesday post would be OK.  Still, pictures always dress up a post.  That was when I thought of Wednesday Witches.  How could I resist?

Today’s first witch is one of our own porch decorations.  We found her at Pumpkin Junction in Sauquoit,  NY.  I will be glad to go there again this year!

Witches love to make shadow puppets.

One problem is that I do not seem to have many pictures of witches in my Media Library.  I must step up my picture game.  Still, who doesn’t love Margaret Hamilton?  Many consider her Wicked Witch of the West in The Wizard of Oz to be the quintessential hag.

A few members of a scary coven.

This is from Horror Hotel, one of my favorite Halloween movies.  These are truly evil witches, not fun, friendly brew mama’s like the one in the first picture.

I cast a spell on you!

I suppose some of you were making jokes about me being a witch (perhaps spelled with a b) since reading the headline (you know who you are).  Well, this is me at the Ilion Days DooDah Parade in 2018.  It is actually my wizard outfit, but I substituted the witch’s hat, because it was a sunny day and I wanted the brim.

I think Wednesday Witches may become a semi-regular thing.  Any thoughts?

Monsters But Very Little Brain

Since Monstrous Monday did not work out, I thought I would indulge in some Mid-Week Monsters.  At least it will not be a Wuss-out Wednesday post.

I love the side-eye.

I open with a shot from The Brain That Wouldn’t Die,  as an ironic comment on the fact that my brain has apparently died.  I blame allergy season.  Yet I hope to bestir my meager brain to some activity, since I have a murder mystery to finish writing (preview of coming attractions).

I like to think I’m one of them.

This is not exactly a monster, except by the axiom that people are the worst monsters, but it seemed appropriate since I just mentioned my murder mystery.  A new season of Deadly Women  starts soon.  I am looking forward to it.

Isn’t she hot?

Here is a deadly woman as well as a monster of the human variety.  It is our friend, Ellen McQueeney in Amy Fisher: The Musical.  This was back in the 1990’s.  We did not see the show but were delighted that Steven’s former classmate starred (please note: NOT his “old classmate”).

THIS is the size of brain I need!

I wanted to end with a monster of the monster variety and was lucky enough to come across The Brain From Planet Arous.  So I begin and end with a brain, having written this entire post without particularly using mine.  See what I did there?

Mid-Week Monster Movies

Do I have a feature called Mid-Week Movies?  Looking back, I see I have another post thus titled.  Anyways, we watched two movies tonight and since I got nuthin’ else, here goes.

Full disclosure: sometimes I feel like the Blob, or at least a blob.

I DVR’d The Blob sometime ago, as I usually do when I see it is on TCM.  It is one of our perennial favorites.   Since I am quite ready to begin the Halloween movie watching portion of our year, it was a good choice for tonight.  Oh, who am I kidding?  I am ready to watch Halloween movies at all times.

It’s scary!

To continue with the monster theme (ooh, could this post be Mid-Week Monsters? ), I suggested Little Shop of Horrors, by which I mean the original Roger Corman flick, NOT the musical.  Steven graciously agreed.  That was very nice of him, because in general he is not as big a fan of the cheesy stuff as I am.

My favorite character is Gravis Mushnick.

We are tired after our movie viewing and will probably go to bed soon.  I’m sorry this is not a more riveting description of the evening, but you’ll have that.  At least, with my blog you will.  I guess I’ll close with one more monster picture.

“You were looking for a monster?”

Naturally I wanted to use my favourite,  Nosferatu.  I may even watch that movie again soon.

More Tired than Terrified

Oh dear, I’m afraid this is going to be a Tired Tuesday post.   I have no real excuse to be tired, but there it is.  Oh, I know what.  I didn’t have a Monstrous Monday this week  I’ll make this a Terrifying Tuesday post,  just to keep things alliterative.

Not from my personal collection, unfortunately.

This was the first monster picture I came across in my Media Library. I’ve never seen the movie,  but perhaps it will come my way one day.

“Won’t you step into my parlor, ” said the spider to the fly.

She looks pretty terrified,  I would say.  I think this is Phantom of the Opera with Claud Rains.  I remember it being an OK telling of the story.  My favorite part was the end, but I won’t give that away.

It’s a scary part!

Here is a picture from one of my go-to movies, Horror Hotel.  It has another name I can’t think of offhand (it’s not so easy to look stuff up on the Tablet) (oh I suppose YOU can do it with ease) (you know who you are).

“Gimme a bite!”

I close with a truly terrifying sight.  Didactic types (again, you know who you are) might argue that this merely Bruce, the mechanical shark, but I bet those teeth are really sharp.  I don’t need to say this is from JAWS, do I?  Perhaps I do.  It was a definitive movie of its time, but its time was over 40 years ago.  Yikes, I’m old!

Well, maybe that explains why I’m so tired.  In any case, I am over 250 words now, so I’ll call this a post.  Happy Tuesday,  everyone!

Mid-Week Mood

It’s the type-it-in-backspace-it-out disease.  I grit my teeth (metaphorically speaking; I live in danger of cracked teeth on account of my unfortunate dental grinding at night) and try to keep typing.  Welcome to another Wuss-out Wednesday post.

What I kept backspacing out was any mention of the down mood that has been plaguing me.  I hate to mention it, because what the blankety-blank do I have to complain about?  The stern voice inside me says, “Just quit whining and get on with things.” Alas, I do not respond well to such bracing treatment.

On the other hand, perhaps some of my readers have down moods and might like to feel that they are not alone.  When somebody tells me they are in a down mood, I usually respond with sympathy.  Why do I not treat myself with such gentleness?  Ah, that calls for some half-baked philosophy more suitable to Lame Post Friday.

There’s a director who got into his work.

I thought a random silly picture would pep things up.  It also cheers me up.  Who could be uncheered by William Castle?   What other pictures can I find?  I’ll check my Media Library.

But sometimes I am piddle puttering.

Here’s another bit of silliness,  given to me by my sister Cheryl.

This is not exactly a monster picture

I add this not because it is silly, but because it is a good reason for me to keep making posts, however foolish they may be.  Maybe I’ll close with something silly, though.

Who, me? Silly? SAY IT AIN’T SO!!!

I’m in a better mood now.  As always,  thank you for tuning in.

A Post with Character?

I am getting totally used to this Tablet posting.   Unfortunately,  that is pretty much all I’ve got to say this evening.  The other problem is I don’t know how to download new monster pictures for a Monstrous Monday post.  Shall I go with previously seen creatures, as I have on numerous occasions? Or just go with some Monday Middle-aged Musings?

“Did somebody mention Monstrous Monday?”

You know that given a choice I will almost always go with my beloved Nosferatu.

In Sunday’s post, which I cravenly made earlier today, I mentioned finding a new approach.  Well, when I got to work,  I decided  to write.   I opened my notebook to a fresh page and started a new novel.  Ahem, what actually happened was I said to myself, “OK, let’s start our novel.”  After a minute or two of thinking,  “Oh, crap,” I started making up character names.  I put a few notes next to most of them.

I really don’t think this such a bad start.  After all, it is all about the people,  as far as I’m concerned. I just need to make them more than names and notes.

Now here’s a character, if you like.

I try to make my characters more than just pretty (or handsome) faces.  I figured this picture combined the Monstrous Monday theme with my novel update.

No Smoking? But this guy is smoking hot!

Just to end on a monster,  here’s one who is also a great character, Blackula!

As for my blog, this post is over 250 words.  Happy Monday,  folks!

My Brain Escapes Me

“A blog post, you say? What a haunting idea.”

First I sat here trying to start a blog post suitable for Lame Post Friday.   It should not have been too onerous a task.  However,  my brain escapes me.  Ooh, that would make a good title.  It doesn’t incorporate the word “lame,” but you can’t have everything (cue remarks on how my brain implies lame as in “lame brain”).  Then I sought an illustration to spark some words.  I see it worked.

Or am I just stalling making my blog post?

I was looking for another monster picture (although I guess Vincent Price is not exactly a monster, but I’m sure you see what I mean) when this picture caught my eye.  My sister Cheryl gave it to me, saying it sounds like the sort of thing I would say.  Here’s a funny thing: on my Facebook On This Day recently,  I saw a friend had shared that saying to my timeline for the same reason.

Scream! Scream for your life!

Here we go: Vincent Price AND a monster,  specifically The Tingler.  I loves me some William Castle.

Full disclosure: I am not doing much howling myself.

Since I couldn’t think of anything else to say just then, I sought another picture.   Now I am over 200 words.  Happy Lame Friday.

Mid-Week Monsters to Cheer Me Up

Yes, I have the type it in, backspace it out disease.  I am going to combat it with — you guessed right!  — MIDWEEK MONSTERS!!! If monsters can’t cheer me up, nothing can!

Mmmm… I haven’t had shark steak in years.

The warm weather makes me think of summer, so here is one of my favorite summertime monsters:  Bruce, the title baddie in JAWS (1975).  What a fun flick, and a good story on the making of (as seen, for example in True Hollywood Story, which I used to watch all the time back in the early ’00’s).

Ooh, Peter Graves and Beverly Garland! Wait a minute, I don’t know who Beverly Garland is, although the name sounds familiar.

I don’t believe I ever saw this movie, but I find this to be a delightfully cheesy poster.  And, look, it was produced and directed by Roger Corman.  Its cheesy bonafides are confirmed!

Check out the RDA at the top of the poster!

Here is a bloody poster, from a Hammer Horror Flick.  I enjoy these movies, although they are more gory than my usual taste.

A creepy pic, to symbolize my responsibilities creeping up on me.

You just knew I would include a shot of Nosferatu (1922), didn’t you?  Andnow time is getting away from me, so I sign off.  The monsters did cheer me up.  I hope they had a similar effect on you (Freudian typo:  I put “cher” me up.  If I could turn back time!).
