Post Christmas Lame-Down

How about a classic Lame Post Friday post complete with random observations and half-baked philosophy.  I put a period instead of a question mark, because that is what I intend to do regardless.

I quickly throw in a picture to pep things up, since in fact I have neither random observations nor half-baked philosophy to share. This is a picture from a Christmas Past, when my (late) husband Steve and I put out most of our Christmas decorations every year.  I have not had a greatly decorated Christmas in years; in fact, even when Steve was still around we had kind of fallen off in the decorating department.  However, my purpose today is not to lament such shortfalls as will sometimes happen.

I had meant to bring down our collection of stuffed Santas this year but did not quite get around to it.  It hardly matters since nobody comes to visit my humble abode.  Perhaps that will change in 2025.  One can but hope.  And clean one’s house just in case.

I am afraid this has turned out to be a rather dull post, but  that happens sometimes.  I hope my readers can at least enjoy the pictures.  I hope your Christmas was grand, and your Post-Christmas Let-Down is not too bad.

A Little Light in my Life

Now we’ll pretend it’s still Saturday, and I will not apologize for making yet another late post.  Sometimes apologies are appropriate and sometimes they are just tiresome.

I went with my sister Cheryl and her delightful grandchildren, Sheppie and Evie, to drive around the villages and look at Christmas lights.  We began in Frankfort, NY, where there is a lovely display at the Marina.  I pointed out Heelpath Brewing, but we did not go in for a libation.  We got out of the car to get a closer look.

This was the best picture I took.  I quickly discovered that my Tablet is not best suited to take pictures at night.

You see what I mean.

I think the kids are in this shot too, but it is hard to tell. In any case, they soon decided it was too cold to get out of the car, and we drove on.

We drove through Frankfort into Ilion, where I knew a few good places to see some lights.  Alas, I did not get any pictures.  We went on into Mohawk, where we especially admired the street lights, then to Herkimer, where I also knew of a few good displays.

It was a nice little post-Christmas interlude. I confess I have had less of a Post-Christmas Letdown than in previous years, probably because, as regular readers know, this has been a difficult year for me.  I am not whining about this (I hope) but merely making an observation of a small silver lining.  I continue to count my blessings, in which my family ranks high on the list.  Thank you, Cheryl, Sheppie and Evie!

Yes, He Brought Me Coffee

Hello, and welcome to another late post, made around five in the morning, ten finger typing on the lap top. I have not even had coffee yet but expect my husband Steven to bring me a cup when he gets himself one right along here.

Last night I began to made a Tired Tuesday Post and just did not want to do it. For one reason, all I wanted to do was whine about how stressed and depressed I felt. For heavens’ sake, many, many people are stressed and depressed. I do not have any more reason to feel so than anybody else, considerably less than some. And from me, it is getting dull.

One thing I did to help myself last night was to go for a run. It was not a bad run. It was certainly not a long run. It felt as if I was running fast, for me. Unfortunately I had my Garmin on and was discouraged to find that fast for me is just under a 13-minute mile. Well, what am I so discouraged about? I am not racing against anybody.

On the brighter side, quite literally, a few people still have their Christmas lights on. Tradition has it we should leave our decorations up till January 6, you know, Twelve Days of Christmas. I have long wanted to throw a Twelfth Night Party. For one reason, it would postpone my Post-Christmas Letdown. For another reason, I like to give a party.

I see I have rambled on for more than 250 words. By my rules for me, that is more than respectable for a Late Tired Tuesday Post. I wonder if I should also categorize this as a Non-Sequitur Post. Or add a category of Just Babble On Till 200 Words Category. Any thoughts?

I’m Not a Monster

This will either be a Wuss-Out Wednesday or Mid-Week Monsters. I wonder if I could be suffering from a post-Christmas letdown. Really, I feel quite ashamed of myself for being in any kind of a bad mood, let alone sliding into depression and despair. My life is not all that bad, especially when I look at what others are going through. Additionally, there is the thought that we must do what we can to improve our own circumstances.

Reflecting on those last two sentences does not always help. Sometimes it snowballs the mood, because of the added guilt and feeling of What-the-hell-is-the-matter-with-me? I am not currently experiencing such a snowball, so there’s that.

Kafka knew from monsters.

I was searching my Media Library for a monster picture, just to take a break from whatever we might call the preceding paragraphs, when I came across a quote I like. I was just questioning whether I should continue this admittedly foolish post. Kafka obviously feels I should. So there.

Now there’s a monster who never did any writing. He is from The Brain That Wouldn’t Die, one of my favorite cheesy horror movies. I wonder if I can talk Steve into watching cheesy horror movies for New Year’s Eve. Or we could go with the classics. Classic horror movies, of course.

He is fine, yes.

I see I am over 200 words, so I feel I have met my minimum standard. I am also feeling some improvement mood-wise. As I observed on Sunday, monsters often help.

Sometimes Monsters Help

I do not know why I feel so tired. I have accomplished very little today, and even less in the area of writing. I know, the only thing to do is to pick up a pen and write. Or a stylus and start picking out one letter at a time. So this is my Wrist to Forehead Sunday Post.

I throw in a picture to pep things up. I love this shot of Elliott Ghoul. The reflection makes it look like he is holding a Santa Claus doll. My Christmas decorations stay up till at least January 6th. I would really like to have a fabulous 12th Night party, but this is clearly not the year for that.

This post is becoming a little disjointed, but I guess I have kind of a spooky Christmas theme going on. Above is our skeleton Bonita, in last year’s Christmas outfit. In the background you can see Santa Claus and Darling Duck.

I am strongly tempted to grow my hair out.

One more Christmas monster picture. I wonder if I can blame today’s post on my Post-Christmas Letdown. Hmmm…. sounds like a lame-ass excuse to me. All I can do is hit Publish and hope for the best. As always, thank you for tuning in.

Still Christmas? Time to Move On?

Not bad feet if I do say so.

Here is my view for the evening.  Astute viewers will see that my leggings are Christmasy while my slippers are neutral yet fun.  That is symbolic of my mood right now: reluctant to give up Christmas yet cognizant of the necessity to do so, and ready to have fun.

Right now I am sitting on my couch having a wonderful time with my husband Steven and our friend Kim. I must — or at least I very much want to — make a blog post, but it is difficult to do so while also participating in the conversation.

I guess that could make this a Wrist to Forehead Sunday post.  I am having a nice time but may be unable to make a blog post. What to do, what to do?

I guess it need not escalate to swooning proportions.

Here are the jingle bells.

I thought I would include for comparisons sake my view on New Year’s Eve.  Same leggings, different slippers.  I was wearing the jingle pair last night and part of today.  Steven is having a hard time letting go of Christmas and I guess so am I.

My main focus right now is to make my blog post today.  I have had far too many days of making a post in the early hours of the next day, and even a couple of shamefully missed posts. It is a new year. A new chance for me to make 266 consecutive posts (leap year, you know).  I love a new year and a new start.

OK, it is five days into the year (my  WordPress timestamp may say six, but I daresay that is not important). More didactic sorts (you know who you are) may say that renders my new start late and therefore ineffective.

I cannot deal with this sort of naysayers.  All I can say is Happy Sunday, and I hope to see you all on Monstrous Monday.

Will My Post-Christmas Letdown Cause Me to Snap?

I continue to work through my post-Christmas letdown with a Wrist to Forehead Sunday post.  I so much prefer the Christmas weeks I have more time off work, but as I often observe, you can’t have everything.

My favorite!

We have been looking at Snapped for most of the day.  It is a great relief to me to get back into murder and mayhem after all those uplifting Christmas movies Steven has been watching.  Oh, OK, I like Christmas movies and specials, too.  Of course my favorite is How the Grinch Stole Christmas,  narrated by Boris Karloff.  That neatly straddles my love of Christmas and my love of classic horror.

Perhaps we will watch this one again later this evening.  In the meantime,  I feel I must bring this post to at least 200 words.  Perhaps another illustration would help.

Merry Day After Christmas

Ho ho ho!

I thought I would share a few images of Christmas, to help those of us who are working through post-Christmas letdowns.  Some prefer to go cold turkey (or just eat cold turkey leftover from Christmas dinner) (sorry, couldn’t resist).  I’m going with slow withdrawal this year.

The Santa pictured above has been in my parents’ house since before I was born.  My husband, Steven, has threatened to steal it for as long as he’s been seeing me.  No luck so far, but we have amassed our own collection of old fashioned Santa’s.

Mrs. Santa seems to be a woman after my own heart.

Here are our guys.  This photo is from December 2016, so I guess this is a Throwback Thursday post now.

Pretty!

Here is my parents’ Christmas tree all lit up on Christmas Eve.  I love looking at their tree and seeing the ornaments through the years: the old glass ones we’ve always had, ones that we made in school (Oh, Mom, you didn’t keep THAT one!), ones we’ve given them…

Mom made this arrangement of garland, balls and wreath, and did not think too much about it till my sister Cheryl said, “Oh, you just had to sign your work!”  After that, it did seem pretty obvious that it spells “MOM.”  Mom would have changed the window, but we insisted she keep it that way.  Why shouldn’t she take credit for a house well decorated?

We don’t take our decorations down till at least New Year’s.  I suppose the cold turkey contingent mentioned earlier has theirs down already.  Oh well, to each his own, as the old lady said when she kissed the cow!

Monsters Usually Help

“Am I late?”

When in doubt, open with a vampire.  I came across a new picture of one of my favorite guys earlier today on Facebook and downloaded it.  I should have known it would immediately come in handy when I realized I don’t have a whole lot to blog about today.

The fact is I am deep in the throes of a massive Post-Holiday and — even worse — End of Vacation letdown.  But I am uncomfortably conscious of really being someone “with nothing to complain about.”  I put it in quotes, because it is kind of a cliche.  Now it is not only post-Christmas and Back to Work that is bothering me, it is that everything I type in sounds so stupid to me! Have I suddenly lost all ability to write?  SAY IT AIN’T SO!!!

It’s no use:  I am down and, as I often say, sometimes you just have to feel that way until you don’t feel that way any more.  In the meantime, there is no point in dragging others down with me.  I’ll throw in a couple more pictures, maybe make a couple jokes, and call it a Tired Tuesday post.

I just peeked back at Facebook, and this cute card from the 1950’s caught my eye.  After all, I’m not ALL about monsters, murder and mayhem.

However, since I am somewhat about monsters, murder and mayhem, I end with a picture of Horror Hotel (1960), which I recently found out is also known as City of the Dead, although it is really more of a village.  But I digress.

So this is my New Year’s Day Tired Tuesday post.  Here is a Freudian typo for you: I first put “Tried Tuesday.”  Get it?  I TRIED to make a decent blog post.  I shall try again tomorrow.  As always, I hope you’ll stay tuned.

Wrist to Forehead But Fun

This may be an unusual Wrist to Forehead Sunday post in that I do not feel particularly wrist-to-foreheady (yes, computer, I know that is not a word, yet I do not believe I shall confuse any of my readers).  The obvious reason for that is that I do not have to go to work tomorrow. Yay, me.  Please don’t hate on me, those of you who do.

Since I do not have to work tomorrow, Steven and I went out to have drinks and appetizers at a local watering hole.  I took my Tablet with me, hoping to take some pictures for blog and other purposes.  Unfortunately the first place we tried has been closing on Sundays as of late.  The second place was too busy and crowded. How’s that for opposites?

Finally we went to Lombardo’s Pizzeria in Ilion, NY, where we had a couple glasses of wine and some food.  It was a fun interlude.  Next we went to Asteroga Ale House in Herkimer, where we had another drink and a pleasant conversation with another couple at the bar. Alas I did not take any pictures.  Here is where I fall far short in comparison with other bloggers. Judge me if you will.

Now we are home for what I like to call the bra off, sweats on, movie watching portion of the day.  Or we may watch an episode or two of Snapped.  In any case, I have kept my post-Christmas letdown at bay for yet another day.  Happy Sunday, everyone!
