Weight Loss Goals? What Weight Loss Goals?

The day after making a yummy salad with locally grown produce, we sent out for pizza, wings AND cookies from Salvatore’s Pizzeria in Herkimer. On the brighter side, I can give another shout-out to a local business.  On the darker side, my weight loss goals become merely weight loss daydreams.

It was Steven’s idea.  No, it really was!  I did not try very hard to dissuade him.  In my defense, Steven’s appetite is so capricious these days, when he actually gets a yen to eat something, I feel I ought to encourage it.  Additionally, we like to support a local business.  Stop laughing at me for rationalizing!  As if YOU never eat pizza (you know who you are).

Where was I?  Ah yes, feeling full and happy.  We got a small garlic pizza with sausage and black olives, chicken wings Siciliano, and two large chocolate chip cookies.  I had one slice of pizza and three wings, and, yes, I ate a cookie.  I make no promises regarding the leftovers.

We got delivery, which is always prompt and friendly.  Many of us have been sending out for food more often since the pandemic.  You can get that little frisson of virtue from supporting the local economy.  We are not sending out as often as we did in previous months, so I felt happy to do so today.

I am planning an extra long run tomorrow.  Additionally,  I still have a salad and other vegetables in my refrigerator.  I will get back on the path to my weight loss goals!  In the meantime,  I confess to having enjoyed this evening’s little detour.

Salvatore’s Pizzeria and Restaurant is located at 650 1/2 W. German St., Herkimer, NY, phone number 315-866-2600.  You can Like them on Facebook.  I certainly did!

Scattered Movies After Garage Sales

Yeah, those eyes don’t look crazy!

I pause in my Saturday movie viewing to make a blog post.  I had thought to make a Scattered Saturday Post but did not take any pictures.  My friend Kim and I visited a some participants of Herkimer Village Wide Garage Sales.  It was too hot to thoroughly enjoy the exercise, although we did make a few fun purchases.  After that, we had lunch at Salvatore’s Pizzeria in Herkimer.  Ah, the air conditioning!

I returned home to find my husband, Steven, watching Remember the Titans, a very uplifting movie. Alas, I cannot find any pictures to share.  As I often say, I am not adept at these things.  We went on to a more guilty pleasure with Malice.

Oh dear, I should have included a spoiler alert!

Ah, I managed to add a photo from Malice.  We are currently watching The Bad Seed, as you may conclude from the first image in this post.  I guess there is not a theme to our movies this evening, nor even a connection from movie to movie.  However, I can content myself with the reflection that we agreed on each selection.

“May I have this dance?”

We have not discussed which movie to watch next, but I make bold to share images from House on Haunted Hill,  one of our all time favorites.  I can’t say we will watch it, but we might.

In the meantime,  I am over 200 words, so I feel free to say, Happy Saturday!

Looking Back at and Forward to Mohawk Valley Adventures

How about a nice Throwback Thursday post?  I only hope I do not repeat something I have recently thrown back to.  As usual, no promises.

Hubba, hubba! Or do I flatter myself?

This is from April 2017.  These are my friend Kim and I at a Prohibition Party at Gerber’s 1933 Tavern in Utica, NY.  I have some better 1920’s clothes and accessories now.  I hope for a chance to wear them sometime.

Same place, different hotties.

And here are my friend Phyllis and I at the same place a few months later.  It was a delightful interlude each time.

So Sweet! And not just the people.

Here are my husband Steven and our friend Margaret, at Margaret’s business, the So Sweet Candy Cafe in Utica.  You can get lots of yummy sweets and treats there!

Another shot of favorite people at a favorite spot!

Here are Steven, our friend Thom, and Kim at Salvatore’s Pizzeria and Restaurant in Herkimer.  I have mentioned this place many times and will no doubt plug them again soon.

I may be biased, but I think we’re a handsome couple.

Once in a while I get a selfie to turn out right.  This was taken one evening at Fratello’s Pizzeria in Frankfort,  where we had gone to eat good food and enjoy good music from local musician Phil Arcuri.

I can’t wait to go hear this guy again!

I feel happy now, looking forward to enjoying more good times at local businesses.  Of course I will stay home and safe — and keep others safe! — for as long as it takes.  But how happy I will be when I can go Mohawk Valley Adventuring again!

Just Another Day of Quarantine

After logging onto WordPress at least three times, I found that no blog post was forthcoming.  I know, I know, blog posts don’t just happen; you have to WRITE them.  Well, here I am, early Wednesday morning, trying to do just that.

My sister Diane approved Monday Punday and further suggested Tuesday Cruise Day. I could take a walk, run or ride, and blog about that.  That would have the charm of rhyme over my usual features of Running Commentary and Pedestrian Post.  Accordingly,  I went for both a run and a walk.

My walk was to the post office, because I had written a few more post cards.  I took a long walk before arriving home.  I put my Tablet in a bag.  It was a lovely shoulder bag purchased at Paca Gardens in Little Falls, NY, just to throw in a plug for a local business. Alas, it was snowing and I got no pictures.

Returning home, I read a book, looked at Facebook, watched some movies.  I called Salvatore’s Pizzeria and Restaurant in Herkimer for dinner.  Yum!  Later I heard it was National Take-out Day.  We got delivery, so perhaps it did not count.  Perhaps we should do real take-out tonight, just to be sure.

I see I am over 200 words, so I guess I’ll call it a Tired Tuesday post and hit Publish.  We’ll see if I can do better than a Wuss-Out Wednesday post later today.

Salvatore’s for Supper

Today Steven and I decided to help our local economy and one of our favorite restaurants by ordering in.  Eating a delicious dinner we did not have to fix was strictly by the wayside.

Steven called Salvatore’s Pizzeria and Restaurant in Herkimer and ordered lasagna, which is on special on Thursdays (I never like to call places on the telephone).  When Steven asked what they had for dessert that two could share, they suggested chocolate spoon cake or strawberry cheesecake.  I voted for spoon cake! Yum!

Delivery did not take long, and we were soon enjoying our food.  Alas, I did not take a picture.  That’s a habit I have never gotten into: taking a picture of my food before I eat it.  I know others do, because I see it when they share the pictures to Facebook.  I think it is supposed to be a good dieter’s thing to do, because it makes you more aware of what you eat.  So much for my weight loss goals!

It was a delicious supper.  I encourage everyone to support local eateries by ordering delivery or take out.  I’m going to make a list of local places for us.

Salvatore’s Pizzeria and Restaurant is located at 650 1/2 German St. In Herkimer, NY, phone number 315-866-2600.  You can check out their specials on Facebook.

Snapped to Svengoolie, What’s Next on Scattered Saturday?

I guess I did enough stuff today to qualify for a Scattered Saturday post, but I did not take any pictures, so it will not be such an exciting post as it may have been.

I went for a run this morning.  I have been running all week, but I hope not to be so remiss in the future.  For one reason, I am registered to run the Boilermaker 15K in July.   Training for that will no doubt rate a Running Commentary post.  We shall see.

Later on, my friend Kim and I went to Stella’s Styles in Dolgeville, NY.  I have been there a few times, bit Kim never has.  Alas, we were so busy shopping that I neglected to take any pictures.  This means we must make another road trio to Dolgeville, right?

Back in Herkimer, we went to my house to pick up my husband, Steven.  While we waited for him to get ready, Kim drank a 1911 Hard Cider which Steven and I had purchased after a tasting at Beer Belly Bob’s Route 51 Discount Beverages in Ilion, NY.  I sipped a glass of Black Ink Red Blend, purchased at Ilion Wine and Spirits.

When Steven was ready, we went to Salvatore’s Pizzeria and Restaurant in Herkimer for a yummy dinner.  We love that place!

Now we are sitting here watching Snapped.  We may move on to a DVD’d episode of Svengoolie.  In any case, at least I have over 200 words.  We’ll try for some pictures tomorrow.

Pre-Valentine Shenanigins

I guess we didn’t really have any shenanigans,  at least none worthy of the word, but we did have a pleasant evening.

I did not get Steven a Valentine’s Day present.  YET.  I still have time. But Steven set the standard and got me one.

Please excuse the busy background.

The wine box was from our Christmas present from my sister, Diane. The dinosaur is one we have had for a while.  I put him in the bag I bring to work yesterday, just for the amusement of the security guard that has to look in it.  This morning I left the house before Steven got out of bed, so I put the dinosaur by the coffee maker, to greet him.  So Steven thought it would look nice near my present.

A great name for rum!  The dinosaur likes it too!

I have been noticing this bottle in Valley Wine and Liquor in Herkimer for a while now.  I told Steven we needed it.  It will probably last us a long time, because we are more into wine than liquor, but what an appropriate bottle for Steve and Cindy Q.

After admiring the rum (but not sampling it yet), we went to Salvatore’s in Herkimer for dinner.  Steven won a large cheese pizza on a Facebook contest, so we got that.  We also got a shrimp appetizer from their special Valentine’s Day menu.  After looking at the entrees on that menu, I am seriously considering going back to Salvatore’s tomorrow.

My WordPress timestamp probably says it is Valentine’s Day already.  That is OK with me.  Dinosaur, present, dinner… I am feeling quite romantic already!

Another Yummy Meal

I continue my posts about last Saturday’s Mohawk Valley Adventures with yet another shout-out to one of my favorite local spots, Salvatore’s in Herkimer, NY.

After leaving Little Falls after the Cheese Festival,  Steven, Kim and I were feeling peckish.  Salvatore’s sounded good.  As we walked in we saw our friend Thom, who played The Man With The Music in Where’s the Cheese Monger?, the Cheese play I referenced in yesterday’s post.  Of course we all sat together.

My dining companions.

Thom had a slice of pizza and a beer.  I had a chicken wrap sandwich with pasta salad.   Steven had a fish sandwich with fries.  I completely do not remember what Kim had, but she drank Moscato while Steven and I enjoyed Chardonnay.

As we sat there, Thom said something to Salvatore behind the corner.

“Are you THE Salvatore?”  I asked.  I had never met him.  Naturally I wanted to take a picture.

The man responsible for many great meals!

We had a fun time as always.  I know I have given many shout-out to Salvatore’s.   At least it makes a change from whining about how I can’t make a blog post today!

Salvatore’s is located at 650 1/2 West German Street,  Herkimer NY, phone number 315-866-2600.  They are open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Off the Hook on Lame Post Friday

I started to write a blog post while at work today. I had a good topic, about a theatre experience I am currently undergoing.  I guess that is now a Preview of Coming Attractions, because I never got beyond the first paragraph.  I wondered if it is because I am wired to have Lame Post Friday.  And here we are, back at my house, bra off, sweats on, glass of Chardonnay nearby, not my first glass, obviously (or perhaps not so obviously, but so it is), hoping to type in a few words to amuse or at least entertain.

The day at work passed with sometimes agonizing slowness.  I got some work done, but let us not dwell on that.  For one reason, this is not a work blog.  I sustained myself through the day with the knowledge that at some point I would get together with my friend, Kim.  She has been away, and I have missed her.

We did get together.  We tasted some wine at Valley Wine and Liquor (I must make a full post about that.  For one reason, I took a picture of the winemaker who was pouring the wines we tasted).  Then we went to Asteroga Ale House and Salvatore’s Pizzeria and Restuarant.  We had a fun time at both places.  We made plans to meet again tomorrow.

Oh what a dull post this is!  Where are my random observations and half-baked philosophy that usually enliven my Friday Lame Posts?  I don’t know.  However, I am over 200 words, which I consider respectable.  Perhaps tomorrow I can tell you the story of the chocolate cake.  Or we’ll talk about wine.  In any case, it will be Scattered Saturday or some such by then.  I’m going to let myself off the hook for today.  Happy Friday, everyone!
