A Side Effect of Wuss-out Wednesday

So remember last week when Wuss-out Wednesday was really a thing?  At least I posted ON Wednesday!  It is Thursday early morning (by my watch and calendar if not by the timestamp on my WordPress account), and this is Wednesday’s post.  I’m thinking my mysterious malady is nothing more than very odd migraines, manifesting more as dizziness than pain.  I don’t think there is much I can do about it, though, since the side effects of most medications (which I often experience) is dizziness.  And please don’t tell me I experience side effects because I EXPECT to; I’ve been feeling light-headed and/or falling asleep on pills since before I ever heard of side-effects.

Where was I?  Ah yes, nowhere in particular.  Just hoping to  type in a few words and pretend it is a blog post so I can still call myself a daily blogger.  Is it permissible to resort to monster pictures at 4:30 in the morning?  I think so.

He is probably drinking tea, but I feel this is an appropriate picture.

Caffeine will not solve all my problems, but at least I may stay awake to deal with them.  I am definitely enjoying my coffee this morning.

“One more thing…”

And look at me, over 200 words.  I call that respectable.  Back to coffee and hoping for a better day for myself and for my readers.  And perhaps a better blog post later, but no promises.

Amy Fisher, Can You Help Me Now?

I realized earlier today I was having a Bad Attituesday, and I confess, I did not fight it.  Now I have just coasted on down into a simple case of the blues.  I’m not whining about it, just telling you where I’m at.  My road should hit an upslope soon (what, computer? I know Attituesday is not an official word, but I thought upslope was).  As I often say, sometimes you just have to feel that way until you don’t feel that way any more.

Anyways, typing in words almost always helps.  As long as I don’t say, “That’s stupid!  I can’t publish that!” and backspace it out, as regular readers know I often do (and some wish I did more often) (you know who you are).

You may not realize it, but I paused just there to eat some supper. My wonderful husband, Steven, made potatoes, cheese and eggs.  Yum!  So now I feel a little more cheerful.

I do have a Mohawk Valley adventure in store for tonight: rehearsal for Shattered Angel, the play being presented by Herkimer County Historical Society in cooperation with Ilion Little Theatre.  I have mentioned it in this space before.  I am helping out with costumes.  I hope soon to make a blog post about How I Got My Act Together.  Some of you may be shaking your heads (or your fingers or your booty) and saying, “She’ll NEVER get her act together!”  Well, you may be right.  I shall not dispute over the matter now that I’ve gotten myself into a better mood.

In the meantime, this is the best I can do for a post today.  Maybe I could just pep it up with a picture.  And I hope to see you all on Wuss-out Wednesday (or whatever kind of a Wednesday it turns out to be).

We just saw a program about Amy Fisher the other day.

Perhaps tomorrow I can tell the story of why this picture just happened to be in my Media Library.  In the meantime, enjoy.

Bride and Bunny at the Barn

Saturday when we were out and about, I introduced Steven to a the Old Barn Marketplace, which I have been touting to all and sundry but had not been back to in a while.  I cleverly remembered my Tablet, so I have some pictures to share.

Obviously Mohawk Valley Girl would like this vendor.

There were new vendors which I was happy to check out.  I got two pictures of Mohawk Valley Candles

Ideas for Christmas presents already? I’m still waiting for Halloween!

I know a few people who would like wine glass or beer mug candles.  I personally love the look of the head of foam on the beer mugs.

There were vendors on both lofts.  I noticed a bride dress from below and happily went up to take a picture.

Not a corpse bride, but nice (yes, I still have Halloween on my mind).

As we went through one room, I pointed out to Steven where a skeleton had sat in October.  I think I still have a picture of him.

Taken last October, but I am always in the mood for skeletons.

No, the skeleton was not there last Saturday, but I will go in looking for him again in October.  I like skeletons.

The last thing I took a picture of was a bunny doll I saw.

Isn’t she nice? I love her ensemble.

We have two nice bunnies of our own.  I must share a picture of them and tell their story sometime.  I wonder if we ought to buy them a friend.  I’ll check for a price on this lovely lady the next time I stop in at the Old Barn Marketplace.

The Old Barn Marketplace is located at 6266 State Route 5, Little Falls, NY, phone number 315-508-5254.  They are open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.  You can Like them on Facebook.

Me, Cary Grant and Boris Karloff

We are spending Sunday afternoon watching movies as we often do.  I tried to do a few useful things earlier:  I went to church, I did a load of laundry, I worked on the script for my murder mystery…  But I have never had much success in being useful on a Sunday.  I’m not much use the rest of the week either, so if you were taking a breath to point that out to me you can just exhale.

Where was I?  Ah yes, about to share a couple of pictures from today’s cinematographic viewing.  We started with Arsenic and Old Lace, just to watch something we don’t pop in as often as other movies we have.  I only wish Boris Karloff had played the character everybody keeps saying looks like Boris Karloff.  I love Boris Karloff.

I think a lot of folks could say this about their families.

I should have looked for a picture of Karloff.  Or I could watch a Boris Karloff movie next.  Right now, though, we are looking at His Girl Friday, just to continue the Cary Grant theme.  Rosalind Russell too, what a goddess!

Ralph Bellamy, too.

We pop in His Girl Friday more frequently, although it is not one of our real go-to movies.  We enjoy the rapid-fire dialogue.  I confess to a little envy when they have coffee with rum at lunch.  I haven’t had spiked coffee in a long time.

There’s our Boris!

Here’s our Karloff in Arsenic and Old Lace on Broadway in 1941.

OK, that’s three photos and over 250 words.  I’m going to call that OK on Wrist to Forehead Sunday.

Waiting for the Chocolate Shake

One should have made one’s blog post earlier (one being me).

I am sitting with a paused movie in my DVD player while my husband, Steven, runs to Stewart’s to get us a couple of chocolate shakes.  If there was an ice cream place on our side of State Street (which is Route 5), we could have walked for our treat, but then I would not be typing in my post, so I guess everything has its advantages (I don’t think that is a run-on sentence).

My first intention was to do a Running Commentary post this morning.  I fell off the running wagon in a big way this week.  You see, I had an awesome long run last Saturday and was all set to register for the Falling Leaves 14K in Utica, NY, on Sept. 23.  Luckily I talked to my mother first and found out a big family thing had just been scheduled for that day.  Family first!  I had not been running since.  In my defense, that was not the only reason. I had a bear of a busy week (didn’t even get all my stuff done), and the weather was SO humid.  As regular readers know, I am prone to heat injuries (which really are a thing, so quit shaking your head) (you know who you are).

Where was I?  Ah yes, nowhere but still trying to make a blog post.  I went for a short(ish) run this morning.  Steven and I went to a couple of places in Little Falls: The Old Barn Marketplace and Ruggiero’s Trattoria.  We came home, and I took a nap.  Sorry for even more whining (then again, I do always say go with your strengths), but I had a terrible headache.  It is finally easing off, so Phew!

Here are the shakes!  While I might not be any great shakes at blogging (see what I did there?), I will enjoy this!  Steven is re-starting the movie (Double Indemnity, one of my favorites!), so I am going to call this a Scattered Saturday, hit Publish and drive on.

I just happened to have an illustration in my Media Library.

Beginning the Weekend at Asteroga Ale House

Yes, I am sipping and typing yet again.  It has been so stinking hot and humid here lately that when Steven suggested going out to eat, I said yes!  Where to go?  How about the highly air conditioned and handily located Asteroga Ale House?  Of course I could have gotten a glass of water or soda with my food instead of Chardonnay.  In fact, I did ask for a glass of water after I started hiccuping, but that was later.

We got down to the place early, because we figured Friday night would be busy.  We sure did beat the crowd!  For the first few minutes, we were the only people in the place besides the bartender!  It was filling by the time we left.  We both got a glass of Chardonnay and perused the menus.  Everything looked good!  What did I want?

Eventually I settled on the Italian Chicken Wrap while Steven got a bowl of clam chowder and a dozen steamed clams.  I helped him eat the clams.  Yum!  I took half my wrap sandwich home, as I expected would happen.  I do like to get two meals for the price of one.

As we sat and drank and ate, we reminisced about Happy Hours past.  I have always enjoyed a Friday Happy Hour.  I certainly enjoyed today’s.  And I think it makes a fine Lame Post Friday.  Happy Beginning to the Weekend, everybody!

Two Vampires, a Panther, and Joan, Not in that Order

I think a Throwback Thursday is in order. For one reason, I ain’t got much (as a change from my usual ain’t got nuthin’).  My only hope is that I do not repeat anything too recently used.  Then again, if it is a good picture, why not use it again?

He’s probably stepping outside for a smoke.

Here is Blackula, throwing us all the way back to the 1970’s, 1972 to be exact (I googled it.  I am getting better at googling things).  Things were funky in the ’70’s, and vampires were hip.

Gloria Grahame, Jack Palance, Joan Crawford, and some other guy.

From 1972 to 1952 and Sudden Fear.  Gotta love me some Joan Crawford.  I don’t suppose I have any pictures of films from 1932.  Hey, what year was Nosferatu?

Who doesn’t love a classic vampire?

Yes! 1922!  Twenty-two has always been my favorite number, ever since I could count that high.

OK, that’s three pictures and only about 150 words.  Not very good words, but you’ll have that on Non-Sequitur Thursday (I know I said Throwback Thursday, but sometimes you can have it both ways).

I gotta tell you, that line about luring men on is not exactly accurate, but watch the movie for yourself.

Yes! 1932!  I should have looked that up to begin with.  How symmetrical have I been?  It’s Movies on the Two’s!  That might be a good title for today, or maybe I could come up with something that is more of a non-sequitur…  Or not.  What would be a good title?  Discuss amongst yourselves, or in the comments below.

Where’s that Damn Energy Pill?

Must… make… blog… post…

You know, like in a superhero comic, when the hero (or heroine) is in some dire situation yet is determined to accomplish the mission at hand.  Or they have just enough strength to reach the one thing that will save their life so they can accomplish said mission.  Ooh, like Underdog:  “My ring… my ring I fill…  with an Underdog… super… energy… pill.”

I’m beginning to think I have one of those diseases that some people think is a made-up thing.  Yes, yes, I know that many of those diseases ARE real things and people do suffer from them.  What I mean is, I have this collection of symptoms that come and go with no discernible cause or cure; you can’t SEE anything wrong with me, and sometimes I just don’t feel up to doing what I thought I was going to be able to do.

In my defense, these symptoms don’t usually get me out of things I don’t want to do and sometimes keep me from doing what I truly would like to do.  Isn’t that the real criteria of a made-up disease?  It gets you out of work but not out of going to a party.  Well, I made it through work, although I whined a little to my co-workers (I hope they didn’t mind), but I was supposed to go to rehearsal for Shattered Angel (more about that play later) (preview of coming attractions), and I just couldn’t do it.  In fact, if I didn’t have to be to work at 4:30 tomorrow morning (because my symptoms will not keep me from working overtime, I hope), I would wait till morning to make my blog post.

I am quite mortified to be taking another blogger’s sick day and I hope my readers will not become impatient with me.  I was hoping I could get away with it with some humor and an Underdog reference.

Encouraging Monsters on Tired Tuesday

Hello and welcome to Tired Tuesday.  I have been working on other writing projects and kind of used up all my oomph.  SAY IT AIN’T SO!!!!  For one reason, I haven’t finished the other things I was working on.  Maybe I can catch a second wind.  I bet some monster pictures would help.

“Did somebody say monsters?”

Now who could resist that smile?  How kind of Godzilla to drop by to encourage me.

“Remember, I’m always here for you.”

The Creature of the Black Lagoon and Julie Adams are obviously having a heart to heart.  I bet the green guy (I’m guessing he’s green; the movie was black-and-white) is giving her some good advice.  I wonder what advice he would give me.  Maybe he would tell me to go for a swim to clear my mind.  I knew I should have held out for a house with a swimming pool.  Then again, there is a thunder storm going on right now so I could not follow this hypothetical advice if I wanted to (oh, I would want to).

I don’t know who or what this monster is, but I like the sentiment expressed.

It is actually not too sweltering right now, but things are still pretty uncomfortable at work.  Of course you’ll still have that halfway through August, so I will not dwell on it.

I’d love a copy of this poster framed on my wall.

I do like to end with my favorite guy, Nosferatu.  I had forgotten the tagline on the poster: “You cannot escape your destiny by running away.”  I wonder what is my destiny?  To be a silly blogger, I suppose. Mission accomplished!

LiFT at Little Falls

Regular readers may remember that I marched with LiFT, Little Falls Theatre Company, in the Little Falls Canal Celebration Parade on Friday.  I had a great time, but I did not bring my Tablet to take any pictures.  I thought it would be too awkward while walking.  Lucky for me, other people took pictures which I have conveniently downloaded from Facebook (with permission from the photographer).

A small but fun group!

This was later on in the parade, but I wanted to start with a picture of all of us.  As you can see, we had a variety of costumes.  LiFT is nothing if not eclectic.

This is community theatre: everybody lends a hand.

I don’t know if you could tell in the first shot that Matt had a little help holding up his end of the banner.

This was actually a pre-parade shot.

Batman made it all the way through the parade, but the Crayon fell asleep and was dropped off with his grandmother, who was a spectator.

Another pre-parade shot.

Here is a close up of the best Shakespearean costume of the night (I am the arbiter of the award).

38870664_1042358502606095_5697474182015614976_n (1)

This was a post-parade pic.

I could not find a good picture of this adorable fairy with her wings on, but when she posed with them in front,  I said it was a definite photo op.

You can see the shadows were getting long.

I close with another group shot.  I had meant to tell more about marching in the parade, but under the hope that a picture is worth a thousand words,  I shall close now.  It is, after all, Monday.  Not a Monstrous Monday, as you can see, but fun and make-believe.
