I kept thinking about this meme while I was at work today. It is the curse of the Monday through Friday worker. However, I have worked many work schedules: six on, three off; four twelve hour days, three off; retail hours with no regularity and no weekends off… Monday through Friday day shift suits me very well, if I have to work, which I do.
As you may have guessed, this is another post where I rattle on about nothing in particular till I get to 200 words. I have got to get out of the house for more than work so I can have some stuff to write about!
In the meantime, I shall bill this as a Tired Tuesday Post. I am feeling tired, as per usual. In fact, I feel too tired to rattle on for the full 200 words. I hope my readers will forgive me and tune in tomorrow, when I hope it will not be Wuss-out Wednesday.
I knew earlier today I would make a blog post about Not Writing. I knew it when I got to work early, took out my notebook, put pen to paper, and… no words. I don’t even know how to describe it. I usually say Writer’s Blank, as opposed to Writer’s Block, but it was more than a blank mind. It was a complete lack of mental function. Cue unkind remarks about how my mental facultlies’ functioning is sporadic at best.
At least he managed more than a blank page.
I threw in a picture of Nosferatu so I could combine a whiny I Can’t Write Post with a Monstrous Monday Post. Regular readers know how much I love my monsters.
It was quite the disappointment this morning when my brain refused to work. I suppose some people would have advised me to write anyways, that I was just being lazy or timorous, there’s no such thing as Writer’s Block! They could have a point. I did give up rather quickly.
Maybe my brain had been eaten!
The thing is, sometimes I want to give myself a break. Sometimes I am completely disinclined to sit in front of a blank page feeling huge resistance. Sometimes I just want to open my puzzle book and work on a cryptogram.
Um, I did not pour myself a glass of wine at work.
As I type this (on my Tablet, one letter at a time with the stylus, just to give you the picture), I am suddenly not inclined to let myself off the hook. For heaven’s sake, I say to myself, couldn’t I have written SOMETHING? Perhaps not the project at hand, but another project, a blog post, a letter, anything! Did I even try?
That’s it! We’ll blame it on Monday!
This self-recrimination is useless. I can’t jump into a time machine, return to this morning and try again, a little harder this time, to write. All I can do is work on the next time I put pen to paper.
In the meantime, I am over 300 words and have included a couple monsters. Let’s call it a blog post. Thank you for tuning in.
I am tired but determined to keep posting every day. With the occasional late post, of course. Right now it is Sunday evening (according to my watch; my WordPress timestamp may say something different), and I am looking at the movie Laura in a desultory fashion. It is an old favorite; I won’t lose track of what’s going on.
This blog post, I might lose track of. You see, I took a rather powerful nasal decongestant last night, the kind with a D that you have to ask the pharmacist for. The box said “non-drowsy,” and they weren’t kidding! I did not feel drowsy all night. I believe I must have dozed off a few times, but it did not feel like sleep. Sorry to whine about it. I’m just trying to give you the picture.
I guess this is a real Wrist to Forehead Sunday Post. Right now I feel too tired to pose dramatically. Me, too tired for drama? SAY IT AIN’T SO!!!
I did get a couple things done today: I wrote a letter, gassed up the car, mailed the letter, did a load of laundry. In that order. Oh, and just now I chopped up some radishes and carrots for the week’s lunches. Full disclosure: I got through all the radishes but petered out after about three carrots. My body just said, “No!” So I stopped.
And now I have made a blog post. I’m afraid it’s a pretty crappy blog post, but these things happen. I believe I have previously raised the question of whether a lousy blog post was better than no blog post at all. Does anybody remember what we decided?
I am still not up to having Mohawk Valley Adventures, so no Scattered Saturday Post. However, my husband, Steven, suggested I write a few lines about the Creature from the Black Lagoon. I did not italicize it, because I mean the character not the movie.
I saw on Facebook that Ricou Browning, the actor that played the Creature, was not doing very well, and his family was asking for cards or letters to cheer him up. Snail mail is right up my alley! When I was writing my usual Saturday morning post cards to my post card peeps, I included one for Mr. Browning.
Later on, when we got to the movie watching portion of the day, we found that we had on DVR the episode of Svengoolie when he showed Revenge of the Creature. Perfect!
I need a rubber chicken.
After the Creature, we stuck with Svengoolie and watched Tarantula. As regular readers may remember, we DVR Svengoolie every week so have a few episodes to spare.
I forgot I had this in my Media Library.
After the giant spider was dispatched (should I have included a Spoiler Alert? My bad), we stuck with our DVR with MadLove, which we recorded from TCM.
It is delightfully creepy.
Also on our DVR were a few episodes of Columbo from the sadly brief time that MeTV showed them (here’s a Fruedian autocorrect: MeTV became Meth. A commentary on the addictive nature of television?). We love Columbo.
Peter Falk is so cool.
It seems I have segued into a Saturday Cinema Post. Well, why not? I am over 250 words and included pictures. I call that a respectable post. Happy Saturday, everyone!
It is another Late Lame Post Friday Post. I went ahead and capitalized Late, because being late on my Friday post has gotten to be a kind of a thing with me. Do I have anything of substance to say? I don’t need to! It’s Lame Post Friday! At least it was, less than six hours ago (I get up early).
I pause to sip my coffee and to say once again, Thank God for coffee!
Yum!
Last night I cooked a yummy supper involving onions. Full disclosure: this picture is from 2018. I did not take a picture last night, and I haven’t upgraded the blog to include new pictures anyways. Also, I chopped the onions smaller. But I think a picture peps up the post.
In case you’re interested, when the onions were cooked, I added leftover potatoes and a can of mushrooms. When the potatoes were hot, I whisked a couple of eggs and poured them in. I sprinkled on a little Mrs. Dash, pepper and salt before serving.
I guess this could now count as a cooking post. I don’t mean to put myself up there with real cooking blogs; I mean the people who really know what they are doing, what you would call a chef as opposed to just a cook. Am I perhaps being a trifle arrogant to think my frying pan leftovers are of interest to the blog reading public?
Hey, that sound like a philosophical question! Regular readers (if I still have any) know I love to indulge in half-baked philosophy on Lame Post Friday. I think this has turned into a half-way decent blog post. Or do I flatter myself?
Wordless Wednesday turned out pretty good (or do I flatter myself?), so I thought I would go for a Throwback Thursday Post. I’ve had those before. If I throw back to something I have thrown before, sorry.
A couple of suspicious individuals.
Here is an appropriate memory: a murder mystery dinner theatre which benefited the Herkimer County Historical Society. It was titled Secrets at Suiter House. It is appropriate, because I am currently writing and recruiting actors for another murder mystery, as yet untitled.
This is not how this looks today, but tomorrow…?
I am having a great deal of trouble navigating my Media Library, as indeed I did yesterday. As a matter of fact, yesterday I sought but did not find a picture of snow. Now I was looking for another murder mystery picture and found snow. No matter. I can just bill this as a Non-Sequitur Thursday Post.
I hate to play the illness card again, but can I just say I am still not feeling the least bit well. What the hell, body? I have things to do and blog posts to write! Can I find one more picture to pull this post together?
I loves me some Bette and Joan.
This picture is appropriate for both a Throwback and Non-Sequitur Thursday Posts. It is a publicity shot from when Joan Crawford and Bette Davis were set to star in Hush… Hush, Sweet Charlotte in 1964. Crawford subsequently left the production. That is pretty far back. Come to think about it, it is not a complete non-sequitur, because the movie is a murder mystery. It’s a good movie. I highly recommend it.
I am not sure I can recommend this blog post, but you’ll have that. If only I could think of a title…
I thought I would try for a Wordless Wednesday Post using pictures from my Media Library. Of course I am never completely wordless (although many wish I was) (you know who you are). Let us see what I can find.
So pretty!
That was difficult. I enjoyed scrolling down, remembering this and that picture. Yet none of them seemed right for the post. I finally settled on this flower, because I am longing for spring.
Looks more like a rummage sale.
This is not the picture I meant to share, but I had a little trouble scrolling and clicking. As usual, technology eludes me. This is an indoor garage sale in Dolgeville, NY. I found some pretty good stuff there. I’d like to go to another trash to treasure sale, but I need to clean my house first. I will not share a picture of the mess I currently live in. It would be too embarrassing.
Gee, I wish I’d have said that.
I close with a pun. This is not photoshopped (like I would know how to do that!) but is an authentic headline of the Utica OD. That is Observer-dispatch, as you can see on the masthead, not overdose, as you may be forgiven for thinking.
I had it all planned out yesterday. I was going to go for a walk and make a Pedestrian Post, or maybe call it a Tuesday Trudge. Then it poured rain, so I went to Plan B. Only I didn’t have a Plan B. So I am sitting here with my Tablet on Wednesday morning, hoping inspiration will strike.
Some will argue that inspiration is a myth. Just write, they will say, quoting Edison and his 1% inspiration, 99% perspiration. To that I reply, you still need that 1%. After all, without one little clove of garlic, all you have is bland tomato sauce (oh yeah, like I ever use only one measly clove of garlic!) (and I suppose some people like bland tomato sauce).
Where was I? Oh yes, trying to write. I did write a bit yesterday, a couple of paragraphs in the TV Journal and a character page on a new murder mystery.
That’s right! Another murder mystery may be in my future! That will give me something else to blog about. I will have to upgrade my WordPress account so I can include pictures.
In the meantime, I am not quite at 200 words (why does autocorrect keep thinking I want to say 00 instead of 200? Is it saying my 200 words are worth nothing? Everybody’s a critic!). Does it count if I get up to 200 words by discussing that I am not at 200 words? Discuss amongst yourselves.
So it seems I didn’t do so good at getting back into blogging. Full disclosure: I’m not doing so good at other stuff either. Well, you know what they say: go big or go home. Why just screw up the blog when I can let EVERYTHING slide?
OK, that is an exaggeration (if I’ve told you once, I’ve told you a million times: don’t exaggerate!). I have been going to work, managing eight hour days last Tuesday through Friday and today (Monday). But I haven’t done a whole lot else, and I am exhausted. Additionally, I seem to be having some mental repercussions from the illness. I feel very down and am apt to start crying at almost any excuse.
Now I feel that I have over-shared. This is a personal blog, but I did not intend for it to be me, Me, ME! I think this! I feel that! And another thing about me…
I guess I wanted to make another post just for the sake of making a post. If I make a crappy post today, maybe I could make a mediocre post tomorrow. Eventually I could work my way up to half-way decent posts. Or even good posts! No promises, though.
Regular readers may remember that before I got sick, I was going to rehearsals for a play at Ilion Little Theatre. What a terrible time to get sick! Don’t these viruses know the show must go on?
Of course, this show will go on, but sadly (for me, at least), it will go on without me. The director was willing to wait for me, when we all thought I would feel better any minute now. Alas, that has not happened. I think they got someone really good to replace me, though, so that is good news.
As for me, I returned to work yesterday but could not make it for all eight hours. I punched out after seven and had rather a miserable drive home (luckily it is only 20 minutes). This morning (as by the way, I am pecking in Monday’s post a day late), I am debating whether or not to call in entirely today.
I shall close with a plug for the play. I may not get to see it myself, but I wholeheartedly encourage local readers to do so: GameShow at Ilion Little Theatre, 13 Remington Ave., Ilion, NY (behind the factory), Feb 18, 19, 25 and 26 at 7:30 p.m., Feb 20 and 27 at 2 p.m. For more information, go to http://www.ilionlittletheatre.org/ or find their Facebook page.
