I have been sitting here, clicking back and forth from “Add new post,” thinking that I just cannot write another post about not being able to make a proper blog post. Which is silly, because of course I can; I do it all the time. Additionally, it is Monstrous Monday. Why shouldn’t I make another post of monster pictures and random remarks? Yet, I feel I should be making more posts about the Mohawk Valley.

A common complaint.

My lack of Mohawk Valley Adventures is really getting on my nerves. It is largely because of these COVID times. My beloved community theatres are dark. Some of my favorite local businesses are closing their doors, we hope temporarily. Community events are rare or virtual. Why am I going on about this? We all know it.

This was in The Emporium in Herkimer, taken during a past adventure.

The other reason for my lack of adventuring is that I went back to work. My body and brain really got used to sitting home. And, it just this minute occurs to me, I am NOT used to learning a new job. I was over nine years at by last job. No wonder I am so tired!

I’m buried in difficulties!

Or am I just making excuses?

I suppose I am. However, I have gotten up to 200 words, my rather arbitrary goal. I will look about me for more local topics for future posts. As always, I hope you’ll stay tuned.

Short Run, Sunday Post

I have not gone running for two weeks. At my age, that is far too long. This morning, despite the cold, I ran. So how about a Running Commentary Post in lieu of my usual Wrist to Forehead Sunday? It won’t be a very long post, because it was not a very long run. What do you want from an overweight, middle-aged lady?

I had not planned on running. The roads are still covered with snow and ice, which is what deterred me all last week (it was my own laziness the week before). And it was frigid cold. Double digits, but barely. It was 11 degrees according to my thermostat, which often reads warmer than the actual outdoor temperature. I figured after two weeks it would be like starting all over anyways, so why not wait a few more days?

As the morning wore on, however, I damn well felt like it. I was, I realized, sick of not running. So I got into running clothes and went. In addition to leggings, long sleeves, a hat and gloves, I put a scarf around my neck and wore a zip-up sweatshirt.

Of course the scarf was not the miracle I was hoping for. My neck was warm, but I could not get it to properly cover my cheeks. Yes, it was face-hurting cold. Never mind, I told myself. Just go for 15 minutes. 15 minutes. Nobody could ask for more in this cold. Oh, well, I guess somebody could.

I started out running in the road but switched to the sidewalk on German Street, which usually has more traffic. The sidewalks were snow-covered rather than icy. This was excellent, I told myself. Look how much effort it takes to run in the snow. I would burn all kind of calories!

It did not take long for that to get old, and I switched back to the road when I turned down a side street. I went back and forth between sidewalk and road, snowy and bare, as the opportunity offered. Other than my face and my hands, I didn’t feel too bad. It was worse for my hands when I would take off my gloves to pull a tissue out of my pocket and blow my nose. Sometimes, I pulled my fingers into the palms of the gloves and made fists. That’s an old army trick to get warm.

I ended up running 16 minutes, 17 seconds, 1.22 miles, according to my Garmin. I tracked my cool down walk with the Garmin, too: 9 minutes, 46 seconds, .46 miles. I walked through more effort-inducing snow on the cool down. It felt pretty good, and my recovery beverage of chocolate mild tasted really good.

For the rest of tne day, I proceeded to eat like the huge honking hogger I am, thus negating the calorie-burning benefits of the run, but let us not dwell on such negativity. I ran. I wrote a blog post. It is a good Sunday.

Cinema on Slacker Saturday

I pause in enjoying my evening for a Slacker Saturday Post. I made up my mind earlier this week to have a relaxing Saturday at home, and for once I succeeded in my ambition.

“You made up your mind in one minute!”

Earlier tonight we watched The Bad Seed, one of out favorite cheesy movies. In the above scene, Patty McCormick is still supposed to be the perfect, angelic child, not the selfish, bad-tempered murderess we know she is. No spoiler alert needed there; we all know what the movie is about.

Technically, the blood should be spurting out.

After The Bad Seed, Steven graciously agreed to watch one of my favorites, The Brain That Wouldn’t Die. The above picture does not feature said brain. Personally I feel it is just as well that blood is not spurting out of that arm hole, as I suggested in the caption.

It is sad to me how happy he looks.

We are now watching The Bride of Frankenstein, one of the few movies where the sequel surpasses the original, although I love the original as well. We often watch the two movies together, but I can’t do everything right, especially on Slacker Saturday.

Fresh as a Nosegay on Lame Post Friday

At work today, I told a couple of co-workers about the Recency Romance I read where the heroine had a glass of wine with dinner and felt “fresh as a nosegay.” I believe I have mentioned that in this space as well.

“So sometimes I say to my husband, ‘Dear, will you bring me a glass of wine so I can feel fresh as a nosegay?’ ” I said. I had to tell one co-worker that a nosegay is a small bouquet.

Me, feeling fresh as a nosegay.

That is not me at home, but you get the idea.

By the way, this is indeed Lame Post Friday, so I am just going to make a few silly remarks, then hit Publish and watch a DVR’d episode of Svengoolie.

He’s our date.

Right now we are watching Snapped, and before that a couple of episodes of Forensic Files. There is nothing like starting your Friday night with a little murder and mayhem!

We are not drinking our wine out of coffee mugs.

Ooh! Ooh! I just realized: the Snapped we are watching concerns a case we saw recently on Forensic Files! I love it when that happens! I am having a very enjoyable Friday night. I hope you are feeling fresh as a nosegay yourself.

A Dramatic Post for Throwback Thursday

How about a Theatre Throwback Thursday Post? For one reason, I miss theatre! Of course, I would probably feel too tired to go to rehearsal these days. And who knows how good my brain would be about learning lines. Then there are the myriad problems inherent in putting together a show…

I DON’T CARE!!!

I want to be on stage again. And I want to go to rehearsal with fun people and build characters, establish relationships and backstory, come up with great bits… The whole process, problems and all. I hope to have it back one day.

In the meantime, I will share a few theatre memories and call it a blog post.

A dramatic moment.
Quite regal, no?
“I don’t always do Shakespeare, but when I do, I wear pumpkin pants.”

The above are from LiFT, Little Falls Theatre Company’s production of The Tempest in 2017.

Our big scene.

The above is from Ilion Little Theatre’s production of Harvey in 2012. It is my husband, Steve, as Dr. Chummy, and me as Veda.

Here’s a suspicious bunch!

Back to LiFT with Rubbed Out at Ruby’s, an interactive murder mystery written by me and beautifully brought to life by a great group of actors.

I could go on and on, but I see I have met my self-imposed goal of 200 words. I know I have shared these memories before. No doubt I will share them again. I hope before too long I have a chance to make some new ones.

Now I’m Monstrously Tired

I realized last night after I hit Publish that I had referred to the last two posts as Tired Tuesday Posts. I admit I had two tired posts, but I have had, in fact, only one Tuesday this week. I damn well did have a Monday (yes, autocorrect, I meant “damn well,” not “can well”) (Sheesh!). And it was not a Monstrous Monday Post. Therefore, I will feel free to have a Mid-Week Monsters Post. I could use a little monster.

“Who are you calling a monster?”

I open with my beloved Nosteratu. I may watch that movie one day soon. It has been too snowy and icy for me to run lately. I like to watch a silent movie while I run in place on the mini-tramp.

I could use one of these!

Here’s a good picture for today! The whole week, in fact. It is The Brain from Planet Arous. Regular readers may remember that this is the picture I like to share when I feel I have no brain of my own.

Isn’t he sweet?

I close with a nice dose of cuteness. My husband Steve gave me the adorable skeleton and rubber duckies separately. The mug was a present supplied by Herkimer County Historical Society. They had made one to join the WKTV Mug Club to advertise our murder mystery, Fabulous and Fatal. Steven asked them to make another one for me.

I guess this post has been a little random, as my posts tend to get sometimes. But I feel pleased with myself as long as I am writing something. Thank you for tuning in.

Short Straitjacket Post

This will be a Tired Tuesday Post. For one reason, I am so tired I almost forgot to make a blog post. What’s that all about, me?

Me, trying to sleep. The heads represent my petty problems.

When in doubt, throw in a picture. This is Joan Crawford in Straitjacket, a William Castle classic involving Crawford chopping off a couple of heads. I think many of us have considered taking an axe to our enemies, figuratively speaking, of course. Then perhaps we realize that violence is not the answer, and severed heads make rather a mess. Or so I have heard.

Teeheehee.

Here is the end shot from Straitjacket. It has always amused me.

A much better use for an axe.

I guess this is a Straitjacket post. And a short post. But why not end on Joan Crawford with a cake? Maybe tomorrow I will try again for the post I just couldn’t finish on Monday. As always, I hope you’ll stay tuned.

My Blogging Days Are Numbered

I started to make a nice post plugging a Mohawk Valley business. I started it on my phone, because that is what I had with me to take pictures. However, it is not so easy to post from the phone, so I switched back to the Tablet.

Now, when I go to edit a saved draft, I have the option to use Classic Editor. I am delighted to take this option, because I have never found the Block Editor to be the least bit user friendly.

Well, now the Classic Editor is not working properly. When I try to type in a paragraph after a photo, it indents to the edge of the photo. I cannot figure out how to correct it.

So I say, “Fine! I’ll use the stupid Block Editor!”

Only now it seems since I committed the sin of trying to use Classic Editor, now I cannot continue with this post in Block Editor. Everything is messed up!

I can’t help thinking that this is how WordPress is punishing me for continuing with a free site instead of paying them money every month. There used to be a way to email them with questions, but I cannot find it now.

So this is my Tired Tuesday Post, ranting about how it is no longer easy to blog for free. Do my lovely readers have any suggestions?

Sunday Stroll with Snow

I did not go running this weekend, because I feared the roads would be slippery. However, I took walks both days. Today I took a few pictures for blogging purposes.

It looks a little mysterious to me now.

Years ago, when I did not have a car and walked everywhere, I hated the snow, because it seemed to take so much longer to get anywhere. Now that I walk for exercise and entertainment, I embrace the extra effort. I walked to Main Street, thinking to take pictures of an area I sometimes run.

Yes, I run right by the sign that says “Road closed.” They don’t mean middle-aged pedestrian ladies, do they?

Not the best shot.

The reason the road is closed is that part of it collapsed, I believe as a result of the flooding in 2013. That is how quickly they get to fixing things around here.

See? Others have been there.

I saw footprints, both human and canine, and knew I was not the only one. I tried to get a couple shots of the damage, but the snow hid most of it.

I have to admire the persistence of vegetation.
You can just see a crack.

I took a picture of where the road keeps going up, but I went another way today.

It really is a good run.

I kept walking and soon came to a street I like to take, because it says “Do not enter.” I like to feel like a rebel.

I do not always follow directions.

It was a very enjoyable walk, trouncing through the snow and pretending to be a rebel. I have not been running enough lately, but at least I got some exercise. Additionally, I think this makes an OK blog post. Or do I flatter myself?

Late Post About Spam

I think WordPress is slipping up a little when it comes to weeding out spam comments.  I got quite a lengthy epistle on a recent post.  I wanted to copy and paste it here, but that is not so easy to do on the Tablet.  OK, I switched to the laptop, and here it is:

wish you where here one day and see how we are living, here life is so unfair. seen is the believing, Life is treating is treating us badly which has no limitation sometimes we stay for a day without no food to eat because of poverty, Since my parent’s we are living from hand to mouth sometimes we can stay for a day without no food to eat, the only way we used to have food before, ii used to go to the forest to fetch firewood and resells it that little money i used to buy food for my family and that can’t even enough for us , but i am very sadly when the government declare that no one should brings firewood from forest which was my only source of survival recently, now i stay at home all long helping my grandmother and my little siblings till night time go to the market and seat beside restaurant’s when sometimes ate’s the food the little they left on the table’s i used to take it away so that my siblings can have food to eat,

I had to wonder how the commenter could get on a computer to read a blog and comment after the government had taken away the firewood income. Also, why didn’t he sell the computer to purchase food? But perhaps I judge unfairly.

I may have judged WordPress too harshly as well, because I when I went to spam (where I had consigned that gem) to copy it, I saw some other spammy comments that had not made it to the blog page.

Attractive ϲomponent t᧐ content. I sіmply stumƄled upon yoսr site
and in accesѕion capital to claim that I acquire in fact еnjoyed account your blog ρosts.
Anyway I will be subscribing in yоur feeⅾs or even I success you get right of entry
to persistently fast.

This one is pretty typical. I guess these are computer generated by some hack for purposes which remain unclear to me. They kind of read like someone used predictive text. If I had not switched from the Tablet, I could try to generate a spam comment of my own. However, I am to lazy to switch back again.

In any case, this post has gone on long enough. It is, in fact, a Late Saturday Post. I overindulged a bit too much last night, for which I am heartily embarrassed. I did much better on Friday. I will strive to emulate that behavior when I wine in the future.
