Is It Halloween Yet?

Yesterday I thought surely I would be able to make a Lame Post Friday Post (I don’t mind it when I call myself Shirley). And here I am, Saturday morning, wondering why I didn’t.  Then again, sometimes “why?” is not a particularly helpful question to ask.  Far better to go ahead and just correct the error to the best of one’s abilities.  At least I have coffee.

A friendly face with a friendly beverage.

I just scrolled through my Media Library till I found a coffee mug.  I am not using this lovely mug today, a favorite of my late husband Steve’s, but I do not scruple to use it year round.  In fact it is almost time to start using Halloween mugs since for me the Halloween season begins immediately after Labor Day.

Speaking of Halloween, I need to start cleaning my house more thoroughly.  My sister Cheryl suggested I throw a Halloween party, as I have been known to do in the past.  That is, Steve and I threw them, but I feel sure I  am capable of hosting a party on my own.

Witchy would be happy to welcome folks to my house.

There are other reasons to get my house cleaned up and my act together. I will not list them here, although they may constitute some half-baked philosophy suitable for a Lame Post Friday post.  However, I see I am over 200 words.  I feel a Lame Post is best kept brief.  I shall strive for Some Sort of a Saturday post later.  As always, I hope you’ll stay tuned.

Memories of Coffee and Steve

I guess I am back to late blog posts as I site here early Friday morning to make a Throwback Thursday post.  I am up early, having gotten up just prior to five o’clock.  I like to be up early; I just don’t like to get up early.  Right now I am not even sure I like to be up early, but at least I have got coffee.  Thank God for coffee!

No fan needed today, though.

Ah, I knew I had a picture of the mug I am currently using.  I wonder if I can get to Dyn’s Cider Mill before they close for the season.  Perhaps a drive there today would be in order (preview of coming attractions?)

I rarely look this perky and cute, no matter the time of day.

I noticed this picture before I found the Dyn’s mug and thought, why not do a coffee mug throwback?  My late, dearly missed husband Steve and I collected many mugs in our years together.  I keep thinking I need to get rid of a few, but getting rid of things is not my strong suit.  Additionally, I use all my coffee mugs.  Many people have one favorite they use all the time, but Steven and I liked to use them all in turn, often depending on season or mood.

A favorite line from a favorite movie.

This was a present from Steve.  He always got me the best presents.  Well now I am throwing back to the great romance of my life.  Perhaps I should close with a picture of Steve.  If I had one of him with a coffee mug, how nice that would be!

Steven with wine is almost as good.

Looking through my Media Library for pictures has reminded me about a lot of good memories I have made on Mohawk Valley adventures.  I should do more Throwback Thursday posts.  And have more Mohawk Valley adventures.  But first, more coffee.

Monsters, Mugs and Murder at Mid-Week

I guess it is a week of late blog posts, but you’ll have that, especially with this blog.  I think I will have the Mid-Week Monster post I mentioned on an earlier post this week.  For one reason, I like monsters.

Well, this is frustrating.  I found a picture I wanted to share on Facebook but cannot figure out how to do it on the Chromebook.  It is probably Operator Error as usual.  My entire life is plagued by Operator Error!  But we weren’t talking about me for once.  I shall resort to my Media Library, also as usual.

Must have my coffee.

This is not a self-portrait.  Yes, I drink coffee, but I will probably never be that skinny.  Still, one can dream.

In fact I am a kind of a witch, spelled with a b, of course.

A coffee-themed monster post?  I used my flaming pumpkin mug yesterday.  I am not sure if I can find another appropriate illustration.

Why do I not have these in my collection?

The things you find when you are scrolling down!  I had forgotten all about these gems.  Is it too early to start planning this year’s Halloween festivities?  I think not.

One of my favorite shows.

How about some murder mugs to go with the monsters?  Murder is a monstrous crime, although I like to make light of it in my murder mysteries.  I used to have one more.  I wonder if I can find it…

I like to think I am one of these, or do I flatter myself?

Found it!  Another show I miss since I gave up cable.  I think they stopped making new episodes, though, so I had to get lucky and catch it on re-runs or On Demand.  Still, there is no point in repining.  One can find other sources of entertainment, after all.

Speaking of entertainment, I hope this blog has managed to be that.  I will try for some Mohawk Valley Adventures in the near future.  In the meantime, thank you for tuning in.

I Slack, I Scatter, It Is No Longer Saturday

It is almost 10:30 on a Saturday night.   I almost never stay up this late any more.  What the hell am I thinking?  The usual answer to that is: I am not thinking.  Which at least makes a change from over thinking.  Sometimes I like to shake things up.

I always kill house plants personally.

Earlier this evening I watched Little Shop of Horrors, the original non-musical directed by Roger Corman.  It is one of my favorites.

Aaand that was as far as I got last night.  I got too sleepy searching my Media Library for a picture of the movie Tormented which I thought I had but could not find so hit Save Draft and left it for this morning.  I slept in till after seven, what a bum!  I haven’t even had coffee yet.

Words of wisdom indeed.

This showed up in my Facebook Memories. I just don’t imagine I made anybody but myself unhappy by not making my Saturday blog post on Saturday.  Then again, I am part of Everybody.

Before I typed in the preceding paragraph, I hit Save Draft again and got myself my first cup of the day.  I put it in a Halloween mug, because as all true Halloween aficionados know, spooky season starts the day after Labor Day.   Then there are those like me, who try to keep the spirit alive all year, hence my viewing of horror movies most of the time.

I see I am approaching 250 words, and I have no idea what to bill this as.  Slacker Saturday because I am making it on Sunday?  Scattered Saturday because the subject matter kind of wandered?  Oh the trials and tribulations!   But as always, I thank you for tuning in.

New Year, New Monsters!

Full disclosure: I just now thought of that title, and now I have to look for some monsters. On the brighter side, it is often easier to download new than it is to scroll through my ever larger Media Library. It is getting a little out of control. Dare I say (wait for it), I’ve created a MONSTER!

Here are a couple more mugs I’d like for our collection. Yesterday I shared a picture of Snapped mugs. If I had not vowed not to scroll through my Media Library, I would throw in the picture of theDeadly Women mug I covet.

Here is a monster that is new to me. I do not know what movie this is from and do not know how to research such a thing. It showed up under Public Photos when I searched “monsters.”

He’s scary!

I have not added a new picture of Nosteratu in a long time. Regular readers know he’s my favorite.

She so pretty!

As I looked at monster pictures, I realize the dearth of female monsters. When I search “female monsters” I got a bunch of scantily clad hotties. This could start a whole new discussion which I am quite frankly not up for.

This has given me an inspiration. I should write a horror novel with a female monster. Yes, yes, I am sure it has been done. However, it has obviously not been done enough. Can I add to literature thusly? I’ll let you know how I make out.

Nothing Monstrous About Coffee

I thought of that headline when I was pouring my coffee.  It is early Tuesday morning. Yes, once again I fell short of my self-imposed goal of being a daily blogger.  These things happen.  Anyways, a little late, here is my Monstrous Monday post.  Only I do not know how well I will do with monster pics.

I have actually never put garlic in my coffee.

I add a little local flair to my post by showing my Mohawk Valley Garlic and Herb Festival coffee mug.  Steven and I have an extensive coffee mug collection, and we try to use them all.

Next I thought of taking a selfie.  That would be truly monstrous. I am not adept at taking selfies, although a couple of ussies I have taken with Steven have been successful.  He is still in bed and I daresay would object strenuously to having his picture taken pre-shower.

EEEEEEEEEEEE!

That took a while.  I had to get stern with myself.  I said, “You’re a middle-aged lady with turkey neck, and there’s no getting around it.”   Now I’ll look for a picture of a movie monster, so we can compare/contrast.

I bet he’s had coffee!

Here is a cheerful monster for my early morning blues.  And now I am over 200 words.  Happy late Monday, and I hope to see you later, when I may or may not make a Tired Tuesday post.

Getting Some Sugar at the Shack

I usually give shout-outs to Mohawk Valley businesses, but once in a while I like to mention favorite destinations when I travel.  One of the best is The Sugar Shack in Arlington, Vermont.  They are a country store selling Vermont products including maple syrup, cheese, baked goods and more.  You can also buy all sorts of touristy items such as t-shirts, sweatshirts, glasses, post cards and other things.

Additionally, the store is home to a Norman Rockwell exhibit which was previously housed at the Norman Rockwell Museum in Arlington.  When the museum closed, the Sugar Shack gave a home to the displays.  My husband Steven and I were  so happy when this happened.  We used to stop at that museum whenever we were in Vermont and were very disappointed when it closed. We love Norman Rockwell!  We have several framed Rockwell prints on our walls as well as a few coffee mugs featuring his work.

Speaking of coffee mugs, one of our favorites is one from the Sugar Shack featuring the owner’s lovely dog Shack.  They have two dogs now, and the last time Steven and I were at the store, Steven noticed there is now a mug available with both dogs.  Our kitchen cabinet is quite full of coffee mugs.  Still, we might find room for a mug with both Sugar Shack dogs.

We follow the Sugar Shack on Facebook. We don’t need a reminder to visit when we are in the area, but it is nice to hear about fresh cider donuts and see pictures of the dogs.  The Sugar Shack is located at 29 Sugar Shack Lake, Rt. 7A, Arlington, VT, phone number 802-375-6747.  For more information you can visit their website at http://sugarshackvt.com/.  And you should definitely Like them on Facebook.
