What? No Nosferatu?

I had thought about making another Running Commentary Post, because I went for a long(ish) run, but then I thought a Throwback Thursday Post would be more fun.  Let’s see what I can find in my Media Library.

Why have I never run this again?

This is from the inaugural East Herkimer Fire Department 5K in October 2017.  I ran it and had a very good time.  For one reason or another I have not run it again.  I’ll have to look for it this year, if they have it.  You never know these days.

Here is a September event which has been sadly canceled this year, the Mohawk Valley Garlic and Herb Festival. Mmmm… garlic!

Well, this is lopsided.  One 5K logo and three pictures of the garlic festival.  What else can I find?

A dramatic moment indeed.

You knew I would get back to theatre sooner or later.  This is a shot from Fabulous and Fatal, the murder mystery we presented to benefit the Herkimer County Historical Society last October.  When, oh when, will my drama friends and I murder again?

I guess this is kind of a Scattered Throwback Thursday.  Oh wait!  It’s OK, because it is Non-Sequitur Thursday!  Phew!

Monsters, Don’t Fail Me Now!

Hello and welcome to Monstrous Monday.  I am really out of words this evening, so let me start right out with a monster.

Scary creature, check. Scantily clad woman, check.

This monster looks familiar to me, but I am not sure I have ever seen the movie, although since it is directed by Roger Corman, I feel sure I would like it.  I’d like to watch more old, cheesy horror movies, but my husband, Steven, is less often in the mood.

It’s not too monstrous yet, but wait.

Here is a shot from another Roger Corman flick which I have enjoyed on numerous viewings: Little Shop of Horrors.  I have never seen the musical stage play, but I disliked the movie musical.  However, to each his own, as the old lady said when she kissed the cow.

You should have known we’d get around to him.

Here is my favorite,  Nosferatu.  He’s scary!

And here is the delightful natural monster from JAWS.  I suppose it is obvious by now that all I am capable of doing today is posting pictures and typing a few words about them.  If I did not have this obsession with making my blog posts at least 200 words long, I would be done by now.

I thought I might as well throw in a cute one.

One more monster put me over the top!  The cup he is in commemorates the last murder mystery we did for the Herkimer County Historical Society, Fabulous and Fatal.  Perhaps I should write a murder mystery featuring monsters.  That would be worth a blog post.

No Title on Throwback Thursday

How could one of these lovely ladies be a murderess?

I open this week’s Throwback Thursday Post with a photo of the cast of  Fabulous and Fatal, the murder mystery we presented last fall to benefit the Herkimer County Historical Society.  Full disclosure:  I am having difficulty in making any post at all.  I wrote other stuff while on breaks at work, so that goes against my usual contention of “writing begets writing.”   I am alternately staring at the screen and typing things in which I immediately backspace out.

Never mind that, I tell myself.  Just type.  How hard could it be?  I’ll just look for more throwback photos.

This is one of my favorite photos.  It is me and Jay Groah at the Ritz and Ragtime at Rutger Park fundraiser for the Landmarks Society of Greater Utica.  Jay Groah is a realtor and one of the main movers and shakers of the Landmarks Society.   He is also a very cool guy.

Back to murder, I add a picture of a murder mystery we did last spring.  And I will be damned if I can think of the title!   How embarrassing!  I can’t even find a blog post about it, although clearly I wrote one, since this picture was in my Media Library.  Once again I say, what the hell, me?

Well, never mind that.  I am over 200 words, and that is plenty enough for a foolish post like this.  Some might say it is too much, but I feel that would be unkind, don’t you?

Non-Movie Monstrous Monday

I am really happy that I got into the habit of making a Monstrous Monday Post,  because that is all that I am up to now.  It has not been a horrible day.  The truth of the matter is that I have very little to complain about. So I won’t.  At least right now (no promises for tomorrow).

Not a movie monster, but kind of scary.

This is the first monster to catch my eye in my Media Library.  It was a display at Valley Wine and Liquor in Herkimer.  I have missed their weekly tastings!  However, in view of other current events, this is not something to complain about.  So I’m not.

He is more fun than scary.

Here is another non-movie monster: a skeleton on my front porch last Halloween.  That was a fun evening.  I hope we are back to interactive enjoyment by next Halloween!

To continue the theme of at-home monsters, here is the adorable skeleton my husband gave me last year.  He is sitting in a mug for Fabulous and Fatal, the murder mystery we put on for the Herkimer County Historic Society last fall.  They created the mug for WKTV’s Mug Club, and Steven got them to make another one just for me.

He looks a little confused.

Another of our domesticated monsters is this delightful mummy. I think this is appropriate for a post in this time of quarantine.  I do not have to leave my house to enjoy monsters!

I may enjoy some movie monsters later,  courtesy DVR or DVD.  I hope you are all having a marvelous Monday.

Cheered by Murder Mysteries

I wrote another sentence on the post I just couldn’t seem to write yesterday.  Now I am going to have my usual Lame Post Friday.  I feel sure many of my readers have been expecting it.

A happy couple, and may I say a handsome one.

I am sitting here with my dear husband Steven, and it is a little difficult to make a blog post when we keep wanting to talk.  We started reminiscing about murder mysteries, starting with the most recent, Fabulous and Fatal.  Above is a picture of the two of us, looking fabulous (or do I flatter myself?).  I should share a picture of the whole cast.  That was a great show.

As much fabulousness as allowed by law!

There are more murder mysteries on the horizon.  A plan is afoot to revive Rubbed Out at Rubies  to benefit RCIL.  More informative about that later!

Who killed Benny the Bootlegger?

There will be a couple of cast changes, and I intend to find another outfit. I’ll post more pictures as soon as I have them.

My writing struggles continue, but it certainly makes me feel better to think about murder mysteries.  I may have to write a few new scenes for Ruby’s.   Then maybe a new murder mystery…

Monday Monsters at Home

A few of the characters that grace our happy home.

I have been meaning to take a picture of our new skeleton, Bonita,  especially since I fixed her up with a couple of accessories. She has been lounging there, watching television with us for the past week or so.  I tried to clear some of the clutter before I clicked, but in my house it is game, set and match to clutter, with no points scored by me. However, I noticed this shot features a nice duck smiling at us out of a box and Santa Claus peeking around the corner.  How fun is that?

My next shot was a little less cluttered.  This is William Mummy (we already had  Billy Mummy), which I impulse bought for Steven on a recent trip to Hannaford. Isn’t he cute?

I’m not sure what the skeleton is looking at.

Regular readers may recall that Steven and I recently celebrated a wedding anniversary.  The bride and groom ducks are a present from our friend Kim. The mug and skeleton were Steven’s gift to me.  He got the mug from the Herkimer County Historical Society.  They had made the original for WKTV News’ Morning Mug Club.  At Steven’s request, they made another one for me.  He got the skeleton at Hannaford (we shop at Hannaford a lot).

So this is my Monstrous Monday post for the week.  I hope you’ll tune in tomorrow, when I hope to write more about my Saturday adventures.

A Few Fabulous Photos

A truly fabulous cast!

This post is going to be heavy on pictures, but I think that will be acceptable, because they are fabulous pictures!  These were taken by the Herkimer County Historical Society of Fabulous and Fatal, the murder mystery we put on as a benefit last Friday (perhaps you read a few of my blog posts about it).  Things did not go as rehearsed, because one actor decided at the last minute not to participate.  But that is the excitement of live theatre!  We made it work.  The audience was entertained, and we had fun.

Murder, Wine, Just Another Scattered Saturday

I shall attempt a Scattered Saturday post,  but no promises. I am still tired and shaken after what turned out to be a wonderful theatre experience with Fabulous and Fatal, our murder mystery at the Travel Lodge in Little Falls to benefit the Herkimer County Historical Society.

Quite frankly, I expected to wake up hung over.  However, I did not, and remembering how much I actually drank, that is not surprising. I nursed my Cabernet Sauvignon, because I was performing.  Incidentally,  the performance went awesomely.  I will write more about it when I have some pictures to share.

This morning I went for a run.  Later we had some breakfast at Mona’s in Mohawk.  Later yet we went to a wine tasting at Valley Wine and Liquor in Herkimer.  Yum!  Then it was a quick trip to the Marina in Frankfort, NY and a drink or two at Heelpath Brewing Company.  Untamed Red by Rustic Ridge Winery in Burlington Flats.  Yum!

Now we are home, having arrived at the bra off, sweats on, wine drinking, movie watching portion of the day.  What Halloween movies will we watch?  I may list them tomorrow, having a Saturday and Sunday Cinema post.  As always,  no promises,  but I hope you will all stay tuned.

Wrist to Forehead Friday

The show must go on!  Said in a dramatic voice with gestures, of course.  I had thought I was going to make a routine Lame Post Friday post before hurrying off to Fabulous and Fatal, our murder mystery (I believe I’ve mentioned it once or twice).  Well, just now one of my actors called in sick.

OH CRAP!!!

That’s all right, though. The important thing is that the audience does not suffer.  We must still be fabulous.  We must still be fatal.  We have a couple of desperate pleas for understudies out, and I am looking over the script thinking, “I can say this one, and Helen Damnation can say this one…”

In the meantime, I still have not yet assembled Ophelia Upp’s costume nor gotten Roxanne Rolls’ jewelry together.  I’m thinking my blue topaz from Weisser’s Jewelers and possibly some rhinestones…  yes, I am easily distracted.

And flustered.  In fact, I am too flustered now to make it to 200 words.  I’ll update you on how things turn out later.

What Would Peter Cushing Do?

I’m thinking all I can manage right now is a Non-Sequitur Thursday post.  We had our final rehearsal for Fabulous and Fatal,  the murder mystery we are presenting to benefit the Herkimer County Historical Society tomorrow night.  Yikes! Then Steve and I had some dinner at Salvatore’s in Herkimer.  Now we are home, looking at 20/20 on OWN, and feeling a little sorry we did not tune in earlier sooner,  since it is a case we also saw covered on Snapped.

OK, I just scrolled all the way through my Media Library twice looking for a graphic of 20/20.  How do I not have such a graphic? No matter, I suppose.  Only, a blog post pops more with illustration. I wonder if I can find something else.

No, I can’t.

I realized anything could work on Non-Sequitur Thursday,  so I hit on this shot of Christopher Lee as The Mummy.  He looks rather sad.  I don’t remember seeing this movie, but cannot be sure I haven’t seen it.

“I want my mummy!”

I guess he does not necessarily want his mummy, but I thought it would be a funny caption.  There is a window nearby out of which Michael Meyers looks.  I must get a picture of it.

“Haven’t I been in another blog post like this?”

Regular readers will not be surprised that I close with Nosferatu.  I say anything goes on Non-Sequitur Thursday.  If only I can think of a catchy title…
