Where’s that Damn Brain?

It is Bad Attituesday, and my attitude is so bad I do not want to go back and see how long it has been since I made a post about I Can’t Write a Blog Post Today.  Is it Writer’s Block?  Is it Writer’s Blank?  Is it Writer is Too Damn Lazy and Irritable?  SAY IT AIN’T SO!!!!  Whatever it is, my brain is not cooperating.

A little Bette Davis is always a good idea.

I was looking through my Media Library for the picture I have of The Brain from Planet Arous, but I found this one from Hush… Hush, Sweet Charlotte first and thought, “Rest in Peace, Cindy’s brain (was that a Freudian typo?  I first put “piece” instead of “peace” and I meant to, because as I typed it I thought, “pie as in a piece of pie”).  I am in the mood to see Hush.. hush again.  I suggested it for our cinematic Sunday, but we decided to watch shorter movies instead, in order to fit more in (in fact, we watched two more after I made my blog post).

Perhaps the problem is that I had made up my mind to Write More.  I have one of those perverse dispositions that as soon as I make up my mind to do something, I only want to do the exact opposite, or do nothing at all.  As I walked into work, having almost a half hour before my shift began in which to write, I thought about a blog post I wanted to write about one of the movies we watched this weekend.  My brain soon became bogged down, so I thought I would ease into it by working on a letter I had started to a friend.  I got about a paragraph written, felt quite dry and dumb, so worked on an anacrostic puzzle I happened to have handy (what, computer, that’s not how you spell anacrostic?  That’s a word, isn’t it? Damn!) (just googled it: anacrostic and acrostic are apparently the same thing, but Google seems to think anacrostic is also a word).

Where was I?  Ah yes, brain dead and not making much of a post.  And yet I am over 300 words. What does that tell you?  It does not tell me much, but I think I’ll put in another picture and call it a day.  I hope I have managed to amuse somebody.

“Don’t look at me! I’m not writing a blog post for you!”

There’s that damn brain!  Happy Tuesday, everyone.

Tie It With a Clara Bow

The title is, in case you did not notice, and I feel sure you did, a reference to yesterday’s title.  Clara Bow was a personality in the 1920’s, wasn’t she?  I suppose I should Google it, but it is Friday, Lame Post Friday to be exact, and I only want to type in 200 or so words and get back to Friday evening activities.  I pride myself that I am posting on actual Friday and not early Saturday morning. Who does that?  Never mind.

We just got back from the Waterfront Grille in Herkimer, NY (where we live).  We were hoping to meet some friends there but apparently misunderstood the plan (if there was one).  I had originally thought I was going to rush home from work, shower, change, go.  That did not happen.  Instead I was able to take some time with a costume piece I thought would work for my 1920’s event tomorrow, which I talked about in yesterday’s post.  Yesterday I said the velvet gown I had found in Ilion Little Theatre’s costume collection would work. I woke up at two this morning with the realization that it would not.

I have in my possession a filmy almost dress I think I could put over a sheath dress to look kind of sort of 1920-ish.  However, it is very wrinkly and has a few stains.  I didn’t even know if it would fit.  I tried it on. Then I tried to iron it.  It was so filmy, I was worried it was too thin to iron, so I used a press cloth, by which I mean a handkerchief.  Only at first I could not find a clean handkerchief.  When I finally found one, I found what I have found every time I have attempted to use a press cloth:  it doesn’t work!  No doubt I do it wrong.  However, I managed to iron the thing without mishap.

I put it on over my black sheath dress (which no longer fits so good since I have put on weight), and showed Steven, saying, “I guess this isn’t going to work.”

He said, “I was about to say, ‘Add some beads and accessories, and that’s good.  But you have to get rid of those stains.”

Long story short (too late!), I have it soaking but am not hopeful.  I still have tomorrow morning and afternoon to make this work or find something else!

In the meantime, it is Lame Post Friday, and I find this post (as well as my costume for tomorrow) lame.  Happy Start to Your Weekend, everyone.

And I am over 400 words.  Go figure.

Do Antibiotics Make You Stupid?

I admit I have had some lame posts lately, but I do not think I have had one whining about how I JUST CAN’T MAKE A BLOG POST TODAY in a while.  How melodramatic that sounds, especially all in caps.  But do you feel I am actually whining?  I feel more that I am lamenting, poised mid-swoon, with a wrist to my forehead.  Well, at least I amuse myself.

And then I sat here staring at that paragraph, unable to add to it.  I typed in one paragraph that I backspaced out. It was dumb.  In desperation, I went to Facebook and typed in the following:

Oh My God! I just started typing in a blog post and it is the dullest thing ever!

A friend commented asking how I even start. I replied that I just put my fingers on the keys and start typing. Usually once I start I think of things to say.  Today not so much.  What’s that all about, brain?
I think I shall blame this one on my health.  I was diagnosed with a sinus infection and have been on antibiotics since yesterday.  Do antibiotics make you stupid?  Cue unkind remarks about what’s my excuse the rest of the time.  You know, I think I can make this post slightly better with a picture of Nosferatu.

“I don’t know what I’m doing in this blog post.”

Well, that made me feel better, at any rate.  Maybe this blog post isn’t so bad.  At least it might make other bloggers feel better about their posts.  And I can always try to improve tomorrow.

Looking for Lame Inspiration

I tried hard to make a “real” post yesterday, because I knew I would be strictly lame today.  Then again, it is Lame Post Friday, and I have been known to post lame even after a whole week of stinkers.  So I will drive on, even though quite frankly, I feel like I got nuthin’.

“Nothing, you say? But you have BLOOD!”

As I often do, I look to Nosferatu for inspiration.  As I typed in the caption, I remembered a quote often repeated and I have no idea who said it: Writing is easy; just sit down and open a vein.  That is probably not even the right quote.  But I get the idea that I am supposed to bleed. Quite frankly, I have almost never found writing to be that painful.  Perhaps that is why I am a silly blogger and not the winner of some prestigious literary award.

I almost put “only a silly blogger,” but I do not feel it is nothing to make a blog post every day, even if many of them are lame.  I can always build on this and write more.  I always intend to.  In the meantime, how about a blog post now.

Since I wrote about Shattered Angel‘s dress rehearsal yesterday, it would be nice if I mentioned Donate to Murder‘s dress rehearsal tonight.  Of course, our murder mystery is by no means as vast an undertaking as Angel, and it lacks Angel‘s historical significance.  However, I expect to entertain a number of people.  We have certainly enjoyed our rehearsals.  If only I had taken some pictures.

Once again, Donate to Murder is to be presented at Herkimer Elks Lodge tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 15, at 7 p.m.  Tickets are $25 per person and are available at the downstairs bar at the Elks lodge, 124 Mary St., Herkimer NY, or by calling 315-866-1439.

W(h)ining After Rehearsal

Oh dear, it is 8:17 on Friday night and I have yet to make my Lame Friday Post.  Full disclosure:  I have had a bit of wine.  Why are you judging me?  It’s Friday!  One is allowed to have a drink on Friday!  Oh yeah, as if I do not have a drink any other night of the week.  Well, whatever.  Judge me if you like.  I am not the arbiter of who is or is not allowed to judge.

OK, so apparently that is all I have to say!  Earlier today I was at rehearsal for Donate to Murder, the murder mystery LiFT, Little Falls  Theatre Company is presenting at Herkimer Elks Lodge, 124 Mary St., Herkimer, NY, on Saturday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m.  Cost is $25 for dinner and show (I think.  Full disclosure:  I am relying on my memory for this), for tickets and more information call 315-866-1439.  I think it is going to be awfully good, but I wrote it and am in it, so I may perhaps be biased.

In the meantime, I need to get a blog post published.  Once again I have learned that a four day week can be as tiring as a five day week.  But I do not mean to repine. The week is over an I got through it.  If only I could have gotten through it with a few more better blog posts!  At least I will close with a picture. Let’s see… what would pep this post up?

Obviously it is.

Full disclosure:  I am not currently howling.

“To be or… Oh, wrong play.”

Here is a rehearsal shot from The Tempest, presented by LiFT in 2017.  We talked about potential Shakespeare plays for summer of 2019.  How’s that for a Preview of Coming Attractions?  How about Coming Attractions for tomorrow? You’ll just have to wait and see. Happy Friday everyone!

Lame Left Hand

I confess it has not been a good blogging week.  I don’t think I have had a real blog post since… OK, too lazy to go back and look.  And I don’t know how good this one will be, because my tennis elbow has been awful all day and it hurts like a sonofabitch to type. Pardon my French.  I’m trying to type with my left hnd only.  Oh dear.

I switched to my Tablet so I can go one letter at a time with the stylus.

This could take a while.

OK, I won’t!

I wanted to put in a graphic to pep things up and this bit of encouragement caught my eye. I confess I am quite fascinated by the whatdoyoucallit, that anticipates what you’re about to say .  That is one reason this is becoming a REALLY lame blog post .

Are you?

I thought yesterday I would use this picture today.

I might scream.

I thought I would look for a good Friday night movie, although we are currently watching Dateline.

Found this one right away.

OK, I’m getting REALLY tired of typing one letter at a time with the stylus (although the anticipatory thing just suggested “with the stylus ” all at once; that was pretty cool (under the heading It Takes  So Little To Please Some People)).

Oh hell, happy Friday , everyone.

No Concrete Answer for Lame Post Friday

An actual newspaper that I kept out of recycling till I got around to taking a picture of.

I shared this photo to a Facebook group about puns (Punmanship: A Salute to Bennett Cerf).  I thought I would also use it for my blog post, because, as is often the case, I got nuthin’.  Then again, this is Lame Post Friday.  I can just type in some nonsense and hit Publish.  Then I can get back to beginning my weekend.

Earlier today I had another idea for a Friday feature.  It was alliterative, which regular readers know I love.  Can I remember it now?  Of course not!  How lame is that?  And speaking of lame, I also did not run today.  I hang my head in shame (not too low, though, or I wouldn’t be able to see my keyboard, that’s bad for blogging).

Also at work today, I had a bout of completely unexplained Foul Mood.  There I was, late in the day, work mostly done, almost free for two days, and suddenly I felt mean.  I warned a co-worker not to look at my cross-eyed, because a Foul Mood had suddenly come upon me.  He accused me of calling him a Foul Mood, which led to some chicken and rooster puns (get it?  Fowl Mood?), which alleviated the foul mood (see what I did there?  I capitalized it when I had it then lowercased it when it was over) (what, computer? Capitalized is a word but lowercased is not?  That the hell?).

This is the most foolish Lame Friday Post I can remember (given that I cannot offhand remember any Friday Lame Posts in particular).  I’ll just finish with a picture for good measure.  What goes good with a sidewalk pun?

This is in front of my house.

How about a sidewalk and peonies?  I know: pretty lame!

Beginning the Weekend at Asteroga Ale House

Yes, I am sipping and typing yet again.  It has been so stinking hot and humid here lately that when Steven suggested going out to eat, I said yes!  Where to go?  How about the highly air conditioned and handily located Asteroga Ale House?  Of course I could have gotten a glass of water or soda with my food instead of Chardonnay.  In fact, I did ask for a glass of water after I started hiccuping, but that was later.

We got down to the place early, because we figured Friday night would be busy.  We sure did beat the crowd!  For the first few minutes, we were the only people in the place besides the bartender!  It was filling by the time we left.  We both got a glass of Chardonnay and perused the menus.  Everything looked good!  What did I want?

Eventually I settled on the Italian Chicken Wrap while Steven got a bowl of clam chowder and a dozen steamed clams.  I helped him eat the clams.  Yum!  I took half my wrap sandwich home, as I expected would happen.  I do like to get two meals for the price of one.

As we sat and drank and ate, we reminisced about Happy Hours past.  I have always enjoyed a Friday Happy Hour.  I certainly enjoyed today’s.  And I think it makes a fine Lame Post Friday.  Happy Beginning to the Weekend, everybody!

Two Vampires, a Panther, and Joan, Not in that Order

I think a Throwback Thursday is in order. For one reason, I ain’t got much (as a change from my usual ain’t got nuthin’).  My only hope is that I do not repeat anything too recently used.  Then again, if it is a good picture, why not use it again?

He’s probably stepping outside for a smoke.

Here is Blackula, throwing us all the way back to the 1970’s, 1972 to be exact (I googled it.  I am getting better at googling things).  Things were funky in the ’70’s, and vampires were hip.

Gloria Grahame, Jack Palance, Joan Crawford, and some other guy.

From 1972 to 1952 and Sudden Fear.  Gotta love me some Joan Crawford.  I don’t suppose I have any pictures of films from 1932.  Hey, what year was Nosferatu?

Who doesn’t love a classic vampire?

Yes! 1922!  Twenty-two has always been my favorite number, ever since I could count that high.

OK, that’s three pictures and only about 150 words.  Not very good words, but you’ll have that on Non-Sequitur Thursday (I know I said Throwback Thursday, but sometimes you can have it both ways).

I gotta tell you, that line about luring men on is not exactly accurate, but watch the movie for yourself.

Yes! 1932!  I should have looked that up to begin with.  How symmetrical have I been?  It’s Movies on the Two’s!  That might be a good title for today, or maybe I could come up with something that is more of a non-sequitur…  Or not.  What would be a good title?  Discuss amongst yourselves, or in the comments below.

Just Type in Some Foolishness and Hit Publish

I suppose the operative thing to have done today was to have written a blog post about one of the things I mentioned this morning.  Or I could have done a Running Commentary about this morning’s run (it was awesome, by the way).  But here I sit, looking at television and strongly inclined to just type in some foolishness and hit Publish.

Right now Forensic Files is on, but before that we were watching the divine Joan Crawford in Straitjacket.

Don’t lie; we’ve all been there.

During the movie we debated and debated what movie to watch next.  We still have not decided, hence our viewing of Forensic Files.  I was hoping to find the cheesier Deadly Women on ID, but no luck.  Not even a Snapped on Oxygen.  Some Saturdays are bad that way.

I must admit, it is quite relaxing to sit on my couch, wondering how best to veg out.  The last couple of weeks we have been moving and shaking. Even last night we were out and about (as I believe I mentioned).  It is fun to be out and about, but you can get too much of a good thing.

Just to make this a Scattered Saturday post, I will quickly cover today’s accomplishments, although they are a little thin.  My run was long and felt good.  Then I wrote some post cards and we left the house by the front door.  Regular readers will recall that our back door was ailing.  We went to breakfast at Crazy Otto’s Empire Diner then to Collis Hardware to get some screws for the door.

Back home, we fixed the door.  Woohoo, I think it was a success!  Then I had a headache so laid down with my heat-up face mask and took a nap.  On rising, I got on the laptop and typed in what I had written on my murder mystery script.  Later I thought how to finish up and made a few notes about it.  I anticipate finishing and polishing tomorrow.

And that was about it.  Eventually we got to the movie watching portion of the evening, and that is where we are at now.  If only we could agree on which movie to watch next.
