I’m Afraid It’s Lame Post Friday

I made it through the week and contemplate the weekend with trepidation.  Is that the right word?  I usually try not to be so cowardly.  But I must be having a craven moment, because I just backspaced those two sentences out.  I restored them with the “edit undo” button.  I must not be afraid to admit when I am feeling scared.

So that was my first lame paragraph from this week’s Lame Post Friday post. I am tired, and I am having a bad writing week.  There, I admitted it.  At lunch time at work, as I sat cravenly doing a cryptogram puzzle instead of writing, I said, “I have got to get my act together.”  My co-workers agreed, saying that they had meant to mention that to me.  I can always count on my co-workers.

I don’t think I ever gave him a name.

I wanted to throw in a picture, to pep things up, and this one caught my eye.  He is currently lurking by me garage.  I don’t know where I will put him next.

This is where he used to lurk in the front yard, under Frankentree.

These are appropriate pictures for today, because the one thing I accomplished was to mow the front lawn.  It was in shade for the most part, so that was good.

Mmmmm… coffee…

This is the coffee cup I used this morning.  This would normally be the weekend for the Mohawk Valley Garlic and Herb Festival in Little Falls.  Alas!  One more thing to look forward to in 2021, I hope.  Oh dear.  I cannot end on such a sad note.  Can I find a cheerful picture?

Maybe I could look like this if I went on a really strict diet.

Here is a cheerful thought: COVID or not, I can decorate my porch for Halloween!  That will also make a good blog post!  As always, I hope you’ll stay tuned.

Words Are Not Forthcoming

I thought of that title earlier, when I was working on a letter to a friend.  I feel it is quite pathetic to be unable even to write a letter.

Eventually I turned to a new page in my notebook (yes, a spiral-bound paper notebook with a pen) and actually wrote something.  One word followed another and I soon had almost a whole page, front and back.  Was it any good?  I can’t tell.  What I can tell is that I need to get a better grip on this novel I am allegedly writing.

Full disclosure:  I am having difficulty in maintaining my grip at all these days.  Yesterday at work I spent a good part of the day telling people I was at the end of my rope.  A poster back in the ’70’s (it may have been an Argus poster, remember those?) said that if you get to the end of your rope, you should tie a knot and hang on.  I think you should swing.  It is fun to swing on a rope.  Or, if you are feeling vindictive, you could make a noose and go after whoever drove you to the end of the rope.  Just to threaten!  I am not recommending murder!

Well, that brings me over 200 words.  I’m going to call it Wuss-out Wednesday and drive on.  I am still working on the post about my Virtual Boilermaker 15K.  I trust eventually words will be forthcoming.

Tired But Running And Posting

I just sat at my laptop and typed in 444 words of a blog post.  There are more words to be written, but I could not write them today.  Judge me if you are so inclined.  I am having a Tired Tuesday.

This is me tired.

I do not look like this right now, at least not the hair-do or outfit.  It is me after I ran a Virtual 5K to benefit the Little Falls Food Pantry.  I must have written a blog post about it, since the picture is in my Media Library.   My facial expression might be similar, because I am still recovering from running my Virtual Boilermaker 15K on Sunday.  That is what the 444 words were about.

This is me all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed before the run.

Is “bright-eyed and bushy-tailed”  a cliche or an acceptable idiom?  Or is it a retro expression which adds color to the post?  I fear it is the least flattering option.

I went running this afternoon, thus making a traditional Running Commentary Post a possibility.  My main comment is that my legs felt pretty awful to begin with and pretty terrific at the end.  I like to remember these things, because it is motivation to keep running!

In the meantime,  I shall continue to work on the post about my 15K.  Additionally,  I still hope to run the Mini- Maker at Copper City Brewing in Rome on Sunday Sept. 13.  As always, I hope you’ll stay tuned.

Media Library, Can You Help Me Now?

Hello, and welcome to another Slacker Saturday.  The only remotely useful thing I did today was a run of just over an hour.  I went on to feel discouraged as I got on Facebook to see numerous posts by people who had run their Virtual Boilermaker 15K, most of them in well under two hours.  Of course I was happy for and impressed by these people.  But I feel… unworthy.

My plan is to run the mini maker at Copper City Brewing in Rome next Sunday.  I hope they are not too impatient with me.  I rear I will be an elephant amongst gazelles.

But never mind my running problems.  I need to make a blog post, and I have done very little that is blog-worthy today.  Yes, I suppose I could do another Running Commentary Post.  Only I really do not feel like revisiting this morning’s thunk-fest.

My favorite!

When in doubt, throw in a picture.  I did not include Nosferatu in my Non-Sequitur Thursday Post,  but I noticed him in my Media Library just now and said, “Ooh!”

Now some people may say that if a blogger has not much to say, she might like to refrain from making a blog post that day.  I found a pat answer for that, also in my Media Library:

Kafka knew from insanity.

That is my problem!  I am not writing enough!  I know, some of you are looking at this post and quoting Truman Capote: “That’s not writing,  that’s typing.”  How literary of you.

Is this the monster Kafka was talking about?

Writing or typing, I am over 250 words.  I call that respectable.  Happy Saturday,  my friends!

Not Much Brain, But I Love My Monsters!

I am too tired for anything but a Monstrous Monday Post.  Yes, this is often the case on a Monday.  Perhaps I party too heartily on the weekends.  Then again, at my age, I believe I should be congratulated for partying in any degree.  If you do not agree, go ahead and judge me.  I will somehow survive.

Do you suppose she is judging him?

Here is one of my favorite shots from one of my favorite movies, The Brain That Wouldn’t Die.  I should be able to give such a withering side eye!

“Was somebody looking for a brain?”

Ah, here is the appropriate monster for a day like today, The Brain From Planet Arous.  I love to share this picture on days when I feel I have little or no brain myself.  Unfortunately,  I seem to experience those days more and more lately.

“I thought you were looking for me.”

I also wanted to share a picture of my all time favorite,  Nosferatu.  I confess to having a lot of favorite monsters and movies.  I love different ones for different reasons.  Well, why should I limit my enjoyment?  I choose instead to spread my love around!

After all, a boy’s best friend is his mother.

Speaking of love, I close with this sweet picture.  Full disclosure:  I am not all that familiar with this series of movies.  Perhaps at some future date.  In the meantime, Happy Monday!

Would Svengoolie Like My Container Garden?

He is fine, yes!

So far the highlight of my day was watching a DVR’d episode of Svengoolie.  How I went so many years of my life without this show… Oh well, I can watch it now.

However, I do not mean to make my blog post about Svengoolie, nor yet Snapped, which I have also been enjoying this Sunday.  Still, I have mentioned them.  Will that qualify this as a Non-Sequitur Sunday Post?  I hope so.

Svengoolie, Snapped and Susan!

When I began to realize I had almost nothing to say on a blog post, I went outside to take a picture of my Brown-eyed Susans, which are still growing prolifically.  I put the bucket in front of them earlier to prop them up, as they had begun to droop.  I guess it is a little unsightly.  I’ll have to come up with something else .

Pretty!

Next I went put front for a shot of my Johnny Jump-ups.  Aren’t they doing well?  I took another picture while I was at it.

An unknown plant.

You can’t really see this one very well.  I have no idea what it is, but it started growing where my peonies were after I cut them down.  I decided to let it live.  I’ll let you know if it amounts to anything.

I can only eat so much pesto, after all.

Back on the deck, I got a shot of my put of control basil.  I have not made as good use of it as I may have.  I wonder if I can dry it and use it this winter.

Not the most visually appealing display.

I took a picture of a couple other plants that were doing well.  My container garden is not as beautiful as I would like.  If I swept the deck and rearranged the pots, it would help.  However, as it becomes increasingly obvious that I will host no gatherings in the foreseeable future, I have become discouraged.

However, one must not give in to discouragement.  On the brighter side, I made my Sunday Post on Sunday.  And it wasn’t a Wrist to Forehead Sunday.  I’m going to call that a win.

By the Way, It’s Raining Again

Oh dear, I have the Type It In Backspace It Out Disease.  However, I want to make a blog post, so let us see what I can come up with.

I loves me some dark clouds, yes!

I took this picture of the sky outside my house while waiting for my friend, Kim, to pick me up.  We have had an off and on rainy day.  I felt a few sprinkles when running this morning and heard a downpour earlier this afternoon.  I got the front lawn mowed before the downpour, so that was one thing in my favor.

Not quite pumpkin time yet, but…

Kim and I had a nice lunch at Salvatore’s in Herkimer, NY.  This is a picture from October 2019.  They do not have the fall decor yet, but I hope to see it soon!

A more recent picture.

This is not a picture from today, nor yet a picture from Salvatore’s.  But it is my friend, Kim, having a glass of wine, so I feel it is apropos.

Also not a recent shot.

I went through my Media Library looking for another picture to share and found another shot of storm clouds moving in.  I do so love a thunder storm!  Perhaps we will get one tonight, and I will have a chance to watch a scary movie!

In the meantime,  I am over 200 words.  Phew!  I’ll see what I can come up with tomorrow, on Wrist to Forehead Sunday.  Or will I have a Severed Head Sunday?  A little suspense adds interest to my evening.

By the Way, I’m Watching Snapped

It is that moment on a Sunday when I have to make a blog post or miss a day.  That is why I call it Wrist to Forehead Sunday, when I would prefer to swoon upon a handy chaise lounge, dramatically posed, because it is all Just Too Much.  We all know I am something of a drama queen.  I embrace it.

I have not personally reached my own breaking point, I hope.

It has not been an especially heinous Sunday.  The temperature is too warm for my liking, but you’ll have that in August.  I have Snapped on the television and a glass of wine handy, which a Facebook meme assures me is appropriate for the day.

But this is how I feel.

Here is my skeleton Bonita, striking a dramatic pose.  Looking at her, I wonder if I should not go back on the South Beach Diet.  Points to ponder.

Don’t whine! Wine!

This is obviously not August, as I am far too warmly dressed.  However, I thought I would include a cheerier picture.  I don’t spend my entire Sunday swooning around, lamenting the imminent return of Monday.  For one reason, I am grateful I have a job to go to tomorrow, so just don’t start with me, you Just Be Thankful Thats (you know who you are)!

In any case, I see I am over 200 words.  Happy Sunday, everyone!

A Productive Lame Post Friday

This is my last weekday off till Labor Day, since I return to work from my latest furlough on Monday.  I spent a good part of the day running here and there to research an article I hope to write for Mohawk Valley Living magazine. I thought I could write a whole blog post about my gyrations.  I have a number of pictures I can share.  However, as the evening wears on, I feel increasingly less inclined to do so.

Then again, it is Lame Post Friday.  How about if I share some of the pictures but do not worry if there are not as many words.  Oh, who am I kidding?  Once I start sharing the pictures, I ought to come up with plenty of words.

I love research.

My first stop was the Oneida County History Center in Utica.  They were very helpful.  While there, I realized that some of the pottery I was researching was on display at Fountain Elms, part of Munson Williams Proctor Institute.  Accordingly,  I headed back down Genessee Street.

Mmmm… beer steins.

I did not stay there long, although I was tempted to grab a bite at their Cafe.  Next time, I hope!  Instead, I took a drive to Little Falls, to Showcase Antiques.  First I did stop for a bite at Ann Street Deli.  I was hungry and needed a pick-me-up!

One photo of many.

I found the particular display I was looking for and had a delightful conversation with one of the owners.  I also looked all around the shop and took a few pictures unrelated to my project at hand.

How could I not take a picture of Schulz and Dooley?

It was a productive and enjoyable day.  Now I have a lot more writing to do.  It should be fun.  In the meantime,  Happy Friday, everyone!

I Know! We’ll Blame it on the Weather!

This was actually not the illustration I was looking for.

It is not Writer’s Block; it is Writer’s Blank.  I can pick up a pen (or a stylus as the case may be) and produce words, but they are not the words I want.  When I try to think of characters, scenes, plot… nothing.

Yet I must persevere.

This isn’t it either, but what the hell, it is Tuesday.

I knew I could at least manage a Tired Tuesday Post.  I have been trying to abide by my rule of Any Writing Counts, but so far it has not been working out well.  Today I only made some notes in the TV Journal.  Yesterday I managed a couple of cards, before that a letter.  However, when I put pen to paper and attempt fiction, nothing.

THIS is the one I was looking for!

I really did put pen to paper and try.  I feel this is important.  There are many times (and I feel sure I am not the only one here) when I feel so discouraged, I do not even try.  I will, of course, try again.

In the meantime,  this is yet another blog post about not writing.  I wonder if I can’t find one more illustration, for your amusement and mine.

Me not be dramatic? Dream on!

Perhaps the hot humid weather is to blame for my malaise.  Most likely it is, as usual, operator error.  However, I shall try again tomorrow.  Sooner or later I hope to meet with success.
