Lounging on Lame Post Saturday

It is nice when one of the chores on your to do list involves lounging on the couch and drinking coffee.  No, I did not write, “Lounge on the couch and drink coffee,” on my to do list, but now that I think about it, it is not a bad idea.  I encourage any readers to put it on their to do list.  The beverage, of course, is interchangeable.

The item on my to do list, if you haven’t guessed (which I feel sure some clever readers have), is to make my Saturday blog post.  How different is that for me?  Usually I am typing (pecking in one letter at a time on my Tablet) my Lame Post Friday post at this time (early Saturday morning)  and do not get to my Saturday blog post till Sunday if at all.

I am disappointed this image isn’t bigger.

I was inspired to make my blog post when I saw this picture on Dracula’s House of Halloween, one of my favorite Facebook pages.  Regular readers may recall that Dracula also likes Friday.

By the way, I meant to mention, regarding the parenthetical comment in the second paragraph, particularly alert readers my have noticed I did not say I was pecking in one letter at a time with the stylus. Talk about First World Problems:  I can’t seem to find any of my styluses (autocorrect seems to think “styluses” is not a word.  What’s the plural of stylus, autocorrect?  Styli?) so am using one finger.   I keep trying to switch fingers, because my right index finger is sore, but all the other fingers have longish fingernails.  The trials and tribulations!  I have to laugh at myself.

Looks like a fun time to me!

This is a picture from last May about this time, when I drove to my sister Diane’s house for a birthday party for my Dad.  This is the other reason I am making my blog post now: I hope to be in Liverpool later.

So this has been kind of a Saturday Lame Post, but it amused me to write it.  I hope it amused at least some of you.  And, bonus points for me, I made it on Saturday!  Have a great weekend, everybody!

Late Post, Lots of Stuff

Well, yesterday was a Wuss-out Wednesday as I did not post at all.  I think I jinxed myself by declaring on Monday that I was going to start posting every day again.  But late posts have been a thing with me for a while, so I press on.  I had quite a busy day yesterday, doing at least three blogs-worth of activities.  Right now, however, I want to post quickly, because I really would like to go for a run.

I ran yesterday, a little faster than the day before, although I studiously do not worry about that.  I really try not to put too much pressure on myself, as I am feeling quite fragile these days.  I puttered around the house a little but was mostly killing time till I was to join my sister, Cheryl, for adventure.

I met Cheryl at her house in Marcy, and she drove us to Syracuse, where her car was going to get worked on.  Our sister, Diane, who lives in Liverpool, picked us up at the car place, and we went to take a walk along Lake Onondaga to look for eagles.

It is a great place for a walk.

After our walk, we went to Destiny, USA for lunch at World of Beer.  I got home shortly after four, with time enough to type in, polish, and email my article for Mohawk Valley Living magazine (I hope they like it).

I think he is fun.

After all these exertions, I relaxed with a DVR’d episode of Svengoolie. It was not until I was headed for bed that I remembered I had not made my blog post.  I thought, would a late post be so bad?  I trust not.  But now I really have to go for a run.

Dominick Street Delight

It is still Saturday and there is plenty of time for me to make my Scattered Saturday Post.  Full disclosure:  I have already had a few cocktails.  Why not?  It’s the weekend!

At any rate,  I drove into Rome, NY, earlier today to visit family.  My sister Diane and I drove to Dominick Street, which has become quite the artsy area.  We enjoyed a few local businesses.  Not all of my pictures turned out, but I will try to plug a few deserving businesses.

The first place we stopped was The Copper Easel, which includes the Superofficial coffee shop.  My pictures here did not turn out, but we enjoyed looking at some beautiful local art.

From there we went to the Capitol Theatre.  I remember going there when I was a little girl and being so impressed by the ornate decor.  We missed the guided tours, but a young man told us we could explore on our own.  We were delighted to do so.

I just love the look of a curtained stage.

After the Capitol, we went to the Keaton and Lloyd Bookstore.   I love a bookstore!

“Outside of a dog, a book is man’s best friend. Inside of a dog, it’s too dark to read.” — Groucho Marx

It is a delightful bookstore. It includes a space for community events, such as author readings or book clubs.

I need to publish a book, so I can do a reading here.

After the bookstore, we went into The Balanced Chef.  Full disclosure: we went in to get a stamp, because they were doing a thing where you could qualify for prizes if you got six stamps.  However, I want to go back there when I am hungry.   It looks like a good place to eat.

Note to self: eat a lighter lunch when about to visit downtown Rome.

Next we went to Franca’s Wine Room, where I also did not get any photos.  I went there before with my friend Kim, and wrote about it for Mohawk Valley Living magazine.  Hannah, the bartender, remembered me.

Hannah, in a previously taken picture,

I greatly enjoyed my Scattered Saturday,  and my sister  Diane was happy to participate in a Mohawk Valley Adventure.

Saturday Soup

Oh dear, I missed another Saturday post. Part of the problem was that I didn’t actually do anything. It was too cold to leave the house, so I did not go running or have any Mohawk Valley Adventures. Full disclosure: I stepped out on the porch twice, putting my weekly postcards on the box for the mailman to pick up.

I did make a pot of chicken soup, so perhaps a cooking post would work, although it wasn’t much of a recipe. I’ll give it a try.

I had a rotisserie chicken from Hannaford which I had been taking meat off for my lunch salads. My mom told me that my sister Diane made soup with the remains of her rotisserie chickens. I messaged Diane and asked her how she did it.

“Boil the crap out of it and pull the meat off, throw out the bones, and add vegetables,” were the instructions. I could do that. Kind of.

I did not have any vegetables, but I had onion and garlic (oh well I guess onion counts as a vegetable), so I added those plus some spices. I also did not have any noodles, so I cooked some ruffles. It turned out pretty tasty. Next time I hope to have a stalk of celery and perhaps a couple of carrots to add. I don’t care for cooked carrots, but Steven likes them.

In the meantime, I am over 200 words. Score! Now let’s see if I can make my Sunday post later today.

Field Hockey! Who Knew?

This is a late Wordless Wednesday Post. Last night Steven and I drove to Veteran’s Memorial Park in Little Falls, NY, to watch a field hockey game featuring our niece Camille. I had never seen a field hockey game before. It was fun! I took a lot of pictures, so I will share a few here.

This was my favorite.
This was just before the previous shot.
A longer shot.
The lights were on, but it wasn’t really dark yet.
Hmmm… can’t see much in this one.
We were invited to the game by Camille’s mother, my sister Diane.

OK, it was a mostly wordless post. I have even more pictures to share, and Camille has another game tonight!

Not Late, Liverpool!

This is my Slacker Saturday Post. It is almost a Guest Blogger Post, because, although I am still me, I am typing on my sister Diane’s laptop on her patio in Liverpool, NY. I had meant to make my blog post in Herkimer, before I left on today’s adventures. Unfortunately, I was too tired and needed to take a nap.

I got up around 4:30 this morning, because I couldn’t sleep. I went for a run, did some house cleaning, threw in a load of laundry, talked to my Mom on the phone, etc., etc. Then next thing I knew it was after ten and I had not yet make my blog post. I went out into the yard and took a few pictures, thinking an update was in order. I tried but found I just had to go upstairs and lie down. Here are the pictures I took:

Look how pretty!

I was delighted to see our rhododendrons blooming. I think the tree gets a little bigger every year, but of course I am too lazy to try to find a shot from last year for a compare/contrast.

It IS growing!

I took an update of our Rose of Sharon. It seemed a little brown earlier this year but appears to be greening up nicely.

More here, and more to come!

I went out front to get a picture of our daisies, which have started to bloom. I can see where we will have many more. Additionally, I see plenty of buds on our peony bush. So I guess this shot is in the nature of a Preview of Coming Attractions.

My niece Gillian just took a few pictures of me, my Mom, and my sisters Vicki and Diane. I thought I had downloaded one to this space from my phone. Alas, it seems not to have taken. I feel this does not matter, since I am over 200 words. Score! I am not late with my blog post! And I have a very silly picture to share on Wrist to Forehead Sunday. As always, I hope you will stay tuned.

Wednesday Walk

I went running this morning in hopes of making a Running Commentary post. Also for the physical and mental benefits, of course, which is good, because my brain did not want to cooperate on the blog post.  Adhering to my rule of Any Writing Counts,  I finished a letter to my sister Diane (YES, we write snail mail letters to each other; it’s fun, you should try it).  After finally talking myself into walking to the post office with it,  I decided to take my Tablet and get a few pictures.  So here is your Mid-week Pedestrian Post.

It was not as warm out as I had feared, because clouds covered the sky.  A few raindrops were falling, but I hoped for the best. So far so good when I saw some daisies I thought I’d take a shot of.  They looked almost as good as my daisies.

Hmm… not as good a picture as I took of mine either.

I had hoped to get a shot of some peonies in Meyer’s Park, but they were past peak.  I petted an adorable little dog but did not ask if I could take a picture,  because raindrops were falling again (did anybody else just flash on “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ On My Head”?) and I figured her person wanted to get home.   Then I thought to take a picture of the sign that makes me flash on the climactic scene in Poltergeist.

“You son of a bitch, you moved the gravestones but YOU DIDN’T MOVE THE BODIES!!!”

At the post office I paused as usual to look at the fliers of local events.

Preview of Comings Attractions

On my way home I paused at three large rocks.  I would love to have a few such boulders for my own meager attempts at landscaping.

Cue jokes about how the rocks in my head are probably as big.

I also got a shot of a front yard garden I particularly admire.

It would be even better if I had a shot of how overgrown this yard used to be.

The raindrops had been starting and stopping,  but I got home before the downpour began in earnest.  I paused to take a picture of our dinosaur-looking tree.  I wanted to document its progress.

It’s so unusual.

The rain is pouring down now, and it is the movie-watching portion of the day.  Happy Wednesday,  everyone.

Not a Timely Post

I have wussed out on Wednesday to this extent before, but let’s not talk about that.  I guess all my posts this week are going to be I Missed Posting on the Day, So Here’s a Late Post.  Can I break the pattern?  Time will tell.  Time is certainly a blabbermouth.  That is a joke I like to make.  My sister Diane says, “Time is relative.  Not our relative. But I digress.

At first I made those jokes in parentheses, but then I thought of the headline and brought them out into the main text. I wonder if the words feel better out in the open or safer in the parentheses?  Yes, I anthropomorphize almost anything.  But with words, I am not the first. I distinctly remember in Alice in Wonderland (which I read more than once as a child, although I refused to watch the movie in later years) the Caterpillar misusing a word and saying, “When I used a word, it means when I pay it to mean!”  That may not be the exact quote, but he goes on to speak fondly about how they all eagerly await their wages on payday.

Well, now I’m talking about time AND Alice in Wonderland (which I ought to read again; perhaps I could find the annotated version), the the headline is less apt.  Then again, I’m posting Wuss-out Wednesday at 4:30 on Non-Sequitur Thursday morning.  I say it’ll do.  Will I break the late post curse?  I hope you’ll stay tuned to find out.
