Don’t Swoon: Eat Some Pie!

This will be a Wrist to Forehead Sunday post, because I am SO in a mood to swoon upon a chaise lounge, dramatically posed with the back of one wrist to my forehead. The headache that plagued me this morning faded, but I got very little of use done.

Oh, wait, one thing we did: my husband Steve and I made a chocolate pie. It was a pretty easy recipe. Yet I think to tell it will be marginally more entertaining than to continue to whine about headaches and uselessness.

Steven had a craving for pie, and his favorite is chocolate. We had a ready-made crust in the freezer. We thought we did not have any chocolate pudding, but I pointed out we have some mincemeat I recently found for 50% off at Hannaford (with an expiration date of like 2023, score!). Then Steve found a box of chocolate pudding mix in the cupboard. Awesome!

The first step was to put the crust out to thaw at room temperature for 90 minutes. So much for instant gratification! We watched a DVR’d episode of Svengoolie to help pass the time.

I loves me some Svengoolie.

After about an hour, I started making the pudding. We took turns stirring, because you are supposed to stir it constantly. Then we let it set to cool and thicken. Soon it was time to bake the crust. I had foresightedly preheated the oven while we made the pudding. It only had to bake for ten minutes, then I put it in the refrigerator to chill.

It took longer to chill than we had hoped, but eventually I was able to put the pudding in the crust and put the whole thing back in the fridge.

OK, we did not wait till it was thoroughly chilled to have a piece. It was still yummy, especially with a good dollop of Whipped Topping. Steven had a second piece a couple of hours later.

I guess this doesn’t make too bad of a blog post. Maybe I’ll have a second piece of pie myself. Or it might make a tasty breakfast. Yum!

Svengoolie, Stallone, and Couple of Beasts

I set aside my knitting to make a Sunday Cinema Post. I still have not upgraded my blog site so illustrations may be a problem. Perhaps my Media Library will help.

We like Svengoolie.

We started with a DVR’d episode of Svengoolie, The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms. I saw that movie once without the Sven treatment. I wrote a blog post about it. However, I did not remember a lot of stuff, so it was a fun view. Looking back at previous blog posts, I note that this was the third time I have seen the movie. Let’s hear it for not paying much attention!

After Svengoolie and the Beast, Steve suggested we watch Demolition Man, a not well known Sylvester Stallone romp which we find highly entertaining. Now we are looking at Lake Placid, in honor of Betty White. It is another scary monster flick. I thought I had pictures from both movies in my Media Library, but they are proving elusive.

I guess my post-Christmas letdown is kicking in, but that is to be expected. Sometimes you just have to feel that way until you don’t feel that way any more. In the meantime, I have had a fairly enjoyable Sunday watching movies, and I have made a blog post three days in a row. Score!

Oh Crap, I Can’t Think of a Title!

I am thinking I could have made a better title for yesterday’s blog post. “Alliterations Aren’t All …” OK, maybe not. However, right now I can make a Scattered Saturday Post. Or can I?

I worked this morning. That is not blogworthy. After work, we went to the dollar store for a few fun accessories. That, too, is not particularly blogworthy. Next, however, we went to Ilion Little Theatre for a meet and greet with Santa Claus.

A fine Santa Claus.

I must make a full blog post about that. We also visited Ilion Wine and Spirits, and Valley Wine and Liquor. There was a tasting at the latter.

Adirondack Winery. Yum!

Later we stopped for a libation at End Zone in Herkimer, NY. We just tried to watch a DVR’d episode of Svengoolie, but I fear I did not pay much attention.

Can I make my make-up look like that?

I am not up to 200 words (my ridiculous autocorrect wants to say “00” as if ANYBODY can’t make a blog post of 00 words!). However, I am posting on Saturday, which I am not always able to do. I shall consider that a win.

It is almost 200 words, yes.

Movies on my Mind

I last posted four days ago. This is not normal behavior for Mohawk Valley Girl. And about all I can manage right now is a Wrist to Forehead Sunday Post. Or perhaps a Sunday Cinema Post. Hmmm…

Today has been a very relaxed day, even for a Sunday. After I took my post-run shower, I put on neither earrings nor a bra (do NOT say TMI) (you know who you are). I wore pajama bottoms and a Halloween t-shirt. We watched movies while I crocheted a crochet in Halloween colors (black, orange and purple).

My Sunday guy.

We started out with Dracula on Svengoolie, DVR’d recently. I was telling Steven some of the differences between the movie and the book, although it is not a bad adaptation for Hollywood.

We had a hard time deciding on a second feature but finally settled on Murder on the Orient Express, the newer, Kenneth Branaugh version, which Steven recently acquired on DVD.

A star-studded Agatha Christie romp!

I prefer the Albert Finney version, but the new one is entertaining, and I am happy to have it in our collection. After that, I wanted something cheesey and suggested Monster from Green Hell, which I picked up on video at a rummage sale some time ago.

It’s scary!

It actually took a lot of time to get to the monster, and there were some dull parts between attacks. You’ll have that with these old flicks. When the movie ended, Steven had stepped out of the room, so I sneaked in another cheesey rummage sale video, The Brain Eaters.

I don’t remember that chick in the movie.

I wrote about this movie some time ago in a post titled “Rest Your Brain With Brain Eaters.” Steven came up with that title. I need to start writing about cheese movies again. Um, and everything else I used to blog about.

Svengoolie, Skeleton, and Another Late Post

I admit it: I did not try very hard to make my Lame Post Friday post on Friday. In my defense, and it is not a very good defense, I was having a fun evening with my husband. We watched Svengoolie (on DVR), we made silly jokes, we watched a Dateline (also on DVR).

He is fun, yes.

Remember that headache I mentioned yesterday morning? It came back with a vengeance, and I had a terrible day at work. However, I survived. When I got home, I felt much better. I sat on the front porch with Steven for a while. Was it the fresh air (Times Square) (I am almost incapable of saying “fresh air” without adding “Times Square”)? The good company? Relaxing after work? Or did the headache just get tired of tormenting me? I neither know nor care.

Now I sit luxuriating in the thought of a three day weekend, and the unofficial start of Halloween season. Oh, who am I kidding? I like to make Halloween last all year long!

Isn’t she pretty?

Regular readers know this is our skeleton Bonita in her summer outfit, accompanied by her friend Bonaparte. I wonder if she would like a Halloween costume or would prefer to go naked? Or is the proper expression “bare bones”? Discuss among yourselves.

Boris and Bela Could Not Help Me

Oh, Boris, please don’t rub it in!

That shot is from the movie The Black Cat, starring Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff. I recently saw it, on a DVR’d episode of Svengoolie. I started writing a blog post about it but was unable to complete it.

So here I am, typing (pecking on my Tablet with the stylus, really) during commercials while watching Dateline (she totally did it!). It surely is Tired Tuesday (and I’ll call you Shirley if I feel like it).

One reason I am tired is that I went to the laundromat after work. I inadvisedly decided to bring my laundry home to dry, since my drier survives. It would have been fine if it was one normal load. It was more. My drier has been at it for nearly three hours now. Lugging the wet laundry home and downstairs to the drier was not much fun either.

But just listen to me whine. What a big baby! Never mind. I’m too tired to go back and edit it to sound more cheerful. I’ll just have to look bad. We’ll see what I look like on Wuss-out Wednesday. As always, I hope you’ll stay tuned.

Svengoolie, Can You Help Me Now?

Hello and welcome to another Wrist to Forehead Sunday Post. I suppose it could be a Scattered Sunday, though, because I have been all over the map.

I went on a long run this morning, did some house cleaning, grocery shopped, and mowed the lawn (no small task with my non-power mower and wimpy muscles). However, as is often the case, the highlight of my day was sitting in front of the television knitting.

He is the man, yes.

I enjoyed not one but two episodes of Svengoolie on my DVR. One was a Roger Corman movie with the rather unfitting title of The Undead. The other was a made-for-tv movie from 972 called Gargoyles.

In between Svengoolies, we saw House on Haunted Hill (the original William Castle/Vincent Price version) and Murder By Death, two of our go-to silly movies.

Aaand it seems my Tablet will not allow me to download pictures of those movies. No doubt I am too technologically ignorant for these things. In any case, I am soon switching over to Snapped, my usual Sunday thing.

I really need a wine glass with the logo.

It is becoming increasingly clear to me that I must reorganize and revitalize my life so that Monday does not bear down on me with swoon-inducing force. Unfortunately, I have few ideas on how to accomplish this. I guess all I can do is pick up my knitting and drive on. At least I have made my Sunday post on Sunday. As always, thank you for tuning in.

Nything on Lame Post Friday

I had my relaxing interlude last night, but I have not been exactly un-relaxed this evening. For heaven’s sake, it’s Friday, if I can’t relax tonight when can I? Oh well, I guess almost any time.

Whenever I get all TGIF, I become uncomfortably aware of all the people that work weekends. I used to work weekends, and I hated it. Then again, I often enjoyed my days off during the week. Wait a minute, where was I going with this?

Obviously, this is Lame Post Friday. I can only feel happy that I am not typing this in early Saturday morning. I feel one must celebrate these small wins.

He’s my guy.

I just got done watching a DVR’d episode of Svengoolie. The Leech Woman. What cheesy fun! I am debating watching another episode or a DVR’d true crime show. I have a slew of Datelines on my List.

But first I must make my blog post.

Unfortunately, once again, I got nuthin’ (oh, that was a weird autocorrect: nything for nuthin’. That’s not even a word!) (Or is it?) (At least it gave me a headline).

How could I resist?

I do feel inclined to write a post about The Leech Woman. I have not done a movie write-up in a long time. They don’t get as many Likes as other posts (I am a notorious Like junky), but they are oh so fun to write.

As for this post, I see I have rattled on for over 200 words. I call that respectable, even if they have been 200 lame words. Happy Friday, everyone!

Fresh as a Nosegay on Lame Post Friday

At work today, I told a couple of co-workers about the Recency Romance I read where the heroine had a glass of wine with dinner and felt “fresh as a nosegay.” I believe I have mentioned that in this space as well.

“So sometimes I say to my husband, ‘Dear, will you bring me a glass of wine so I can feel fresh as a nosegay?’ ” I said. I had to tell one co-worker that a nosegay is a small bouquet.

Me, feeling fresh as a nosegay.

That is not me at home, but you get the idea.

By the way, this is indeed Lame Post Friday, so I am just going to make a few silly remarks, then hit Publish and watch a DVR’d episode of Svengoolie.

He’s our date.

Right now we are watching Snapped, and before that a couple of episodes of Forensic Files. There is nothing like starting your Friday night with a little murder and mayhem!

We are not drinking our wine out of coffee mugs.

Ooh! Ooh! I just realized: the Snapped we are watching concerns a case we saw recently on Forensic Files! I love it when that happens! I am having a very enjoyable Friday night. I hope you are feeling fresh as a nosegay yourself.
