These Things Happen on Scattered Sunday

Ya pays yer money, ya takes yer chances.

I just now said this to my husband, Steven, never mind apropos what.  It is one of my favorite expressions, almost a philosophy of life.  It’s right up there with “Shit happens,” and “You’ll have that.”  But I digress.

I had a Saturday Cinema Post, so Sunday Cinema seems ineligible.   I do not feel it is a Wrist to Forehead Sunday.  For one reason, I got wined.  I joined a wine group on Facebook.  I mean to write a whole blog post about it, when I wine a few ladies this week.

What a delightful surprise!

I went for a run this morning,  but it was not as good as Friday’s run.  Friday I ran up the hill to HCCC (that is, Herkimer College, but to locals it will always be “H trip-C”).

I don’t think this really shows the slope.

Later I went to the liquid store (see earlier paragraph about wining people) and to the grocery store.  I wore my mask, which my sweet friend Margaret sent me, and kept my distant as best as I could. It is still stressful, but I realize others have far more stress, so I count my blessings.

Back home I made a tossed salad, which should last us at least a week.  I also made some vegetable cream cheese, grating and chopping actual vegetables,  including chives from my garden (yesterday’s snow apparently did not harm them). I used said cream cheese to make some stuffed celery.   I suppose I could have done a food post on that.  As they say, Oh well.

I see I am over 250 words, so I guess I will call this a Scattered Sunday Post and drive on.  I have not gotten called back to work yet,  so Monday is a blank page.  I hope to fill it well, and of course I hope you will stay tuned.

 

Svengoolie on Slacker Saturday

I am going to call this a Slacker Saturday, because, quite frankly, I have slacked.  You may judge me if you are so inclined.  I maintain that no life is wasted, because I can always stand as a bad example.

I went for a pretty good run this morning.  I thought of making a Running Commentary post, but, alas, the moment has passed.  I finished the letter I had started yesterday at the laundromat and walked to the post office with it.  That got in my exercise for the morning.

Steven and I spent a good amount of time this afternoon just sitting on the front porch.  How delightful to savor the day.  We waved to passing cars and observed neighbors working on their homes.  At least, I think we observed people working on roofs and yards.  Whether they were residents or hirees, I could not say.

Back inside, we are on our third DVR’d episode of Svengoolie.   Yes, we have been drinking wine while doing so.  Is this another occasion on which to judge me?  No doubt it is.  I do not feel I should worry too much about who is judging me.  My only thought right now is that I should find some illustrations to enhance my post about watching Svengoolie. I’ll call that a Preview of Coming Attractions.  Happy Saturday,  everyone.

 

Cook With Wine, Feel Cheerful

I just made a most delicious late lunch, so I am going to make a blog post about it.  Alas, I did not take any pictures while I was doing it, so this may not be a really peppy post.  Still, you can’t have everything.

Yum!

I paused to take one picture.  Yes, I was cooking with wine.  This time I did not put any in the food.  I had a red pepper that was getting old, and I was in the mood to put something together.  The therapeutic benefits of chopping vegetables is not to be discounted.

The first thing I did, as usual, was to peel and crush up some garlic, and set the timer for 15 minutes,  so it could reach its full cancer fighting potential.  Then I chopped up an onion.  I was chopping it into small pieces, so I stopped after half an onion.  So I guess I did not get the full measure of therapeutic benefits available to me.

I put the onions in a pan with oil over low heat and chopped the pepper into small pieces, adding it to the onion.  I added the garlic after 15 minutes, covered the pan, and let them all cook for a while, stirring frequently (of course I didn’t note how many times or how often; I’m not that kind of a cook nor that kind of a blogger) (did I mention you can’t have everything?).

Eventually I added a can of tomato puree. I seasoned it with basil, oregano, salt and pepper.  Towards the end I put in a can of chopped clams.  I served it over angel hair pasta with grated parmesan cheese.  Yum!

So now I have managed another blog post without much whining.  In fact, after managing the blog post, I am feeling more cheerful.  Let this be a lesson to me:  make a blog post, feel cheerful.  I will try to duplicate the phenomenon tomorrow.

 

I Ran, Then I Slacked

How did it get to be after five on Saturday and not have my blog post done?  The best I can do is a Slacker Saturday post.  I’m not sure f I can even manage that, but I will try to include a picture or two, just to make things a little more interesting.

I went for a run this morning,  hoping to make a Saturday Running Commentary post.  I ran by my beloved Herkimer Historic Four Corners,  and above is a picture of same, not taken during my run, of course.

Where I often feel I belong after a run.

 

Here is a picture of some of the graves around Herkimer Reformed Church, also part of the Historic Four Corners.  It is a lovely area.  I wrote a blog post about it years ago, long before I knew how to add pictures to a post.  When the weather gets a little better, and the ground less muddy, I will return and do a better post (preview of coming attractions).

Full disclosure:  I like wine.

I can’t find a better picture to close with,  so here is a shot of wine bottles on my counter.  Yes, I have been drinking wine while on quarantine.  And one reason I want to make this post: so I can feel free to enjoy some more. Happy Saturday,  everyone!

 

Judge Me If You Are So Inclined

TGILame Post Friday.   I am sitting on the couch in my living room, wishing for another glass of wine and wondering what I can say for this week’s Lame Friday Post.

We had a delightful evening:  wine tasting at Valley Wine and Liquor in Herkimer followed by dinner at Salvatore’s in Herkimer.  Yes, an entire Herkimer post.  Judgy types might be happy that I did not drive too far while imbibing.  Or they may judge me anyways, merely for imbibing.  I cannot control how other people judge.  I can only assure those concerned that we tasted a small amount and enjoyed only a glass or so with dinner.  Hence my desire for more wine now.

Oh dear, now I have been talking about my wine intake, and that will imply that I am taking in too much.  I have taken quizzes on “Are You an Alcoholic?” and there were questions like “Have you been upset about people asking how much you have been drinking?”  and “Have you gotten defensive about people saying you are drinking too much?”

Alas, bringing up the subject at all will make some readers believe I am quite the lush (you know who you are).  All I can say is:  For heavens’ sake, it’s Friday.  Why can’t I have a drink and talk about it in my blog post?

Ooh, look at that.  I am over 200 words.  I call that OK.  Happy Friday, to those who drink and those who do not.

 

 

Whine or Wine on Monstrous Monday?

“What do you mean, you’re too tired to make a blog post?”

I open with a shot of Vincent Price giving the side-eye.  I don’t know why I’m so tired.  It was a perfectly normal day at work, and I did not go running after.   But there is no use in asking why.  For one reason, it might lead to half-baked philosophy more suitable for Lame Post Friday (oh the pain of looking down the long, long week till Friday!) (Oh, quit rolling your eyes and playing the miniature violins; it was a joke!).

Where was I?  Ah yes, Monstrous Monday.  I wonder if it wouldn’t be more pleasant to have Merlot Monday.  I know, only if I brought enough to share.

“Did you say Merlot?”

The above would be an example of a monster of the human variety.  I know that no wine was involved in Psycho.  I would just imagine the plot would have taken a few turns had there been wine involved.

“You have wine?”

Of course I had to include Nosferatu.  In the Bela Lugosi Dracula, the Count famously says, “I never drink wine,” a line also used by Martin Landau as Bela in Ed Wood.  I must say, that is where they and I differ.

My friend Bruce would say, “Don’t whine! WINE!!!”  He has a point.  Well I have tried not to whine too much about being tired, but there are those who will accuse you of whining on the flimsiest evidence (you know who you are) (and it is so flimsy evidence!).  In any case, I see I am over 250 words.  Perhaps a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon.  It’s not alliterative, but it tastes so good.

 

Heelpath and End Zone

On a recent Saturday afternoon, Steven and I hit a couple of local watering holes.  We started at Heelpath Brewing Company at the Frankfort Marina.  I keep thinking I will do a pint or a flight of draft beer, seeing as it is a brewery, after all.  Then I order Rustic Ridge Winery Untamed Red, because yum.  Steven got Untamed White.

“What shall we drink to?”  I asked.

“How about that elf?”  Steven suggested.

“That’s a troll,” I said.  We drank to it, and I took a picture of it.

As you can see, the Christmas decorations were still up.

After enjoying a glass or two of wine as well as some good conversation with the bartender and other patrons, Steven and I drove back to Herkimer.  We still felt like being out and about so stopped at the End Zone Pub and Grub.

We had a great conversation about wine with the bartender.  Of course we sipped a little wine while we talked. I thought I had made a note of the bartenders name, but I can’t remember which notebook I had at the time.  Before we left we took a picture of two nice young ladies we were also chatting with.

I don’t remember their names either.

Incidentally, this is the post I started to write five days ago and just could not finish.  I don’t know that the final version was worth waiting for, but at least the picture of the troll is cute.

 

Be of Good Beer

Note to self: Do not go to the bowling alley for a beer with the guys after work.  Oh, it was fun, and the bowling alley has a very pleasant bar, but one beer easily turns into three when generous co-workers start buying rounds. It actually could have been four or five, but we passed our last upside down shot glasses over to guys with harder heads.  For feeling like a fatty so much of the time, I am kind of a lightweight when it comes to beer.

So here I am Saturday morning making my Lame Post Friday post.  We’ll, what could be more lame than my excuse for not making a post yesterday?  After all, I have been known to drink and type before.  Unfortunately, I have also been known to drink and fall asleep on the couch, which is what I did last night.

I must make a further note to myself to make my Saturday post sometime in the afternoon.  We have plans with our friends Jim, Phyllis, and Kim.  I can pretty much guarantee the wine will flow.

I guess I am showing myself as quite the lush.  It could be true, but I do not always over-indulge.  But when one is hanging out with friends and having a lot of laughs…  In other words, no promises.

 

It’s Not a Crime to Wine Instead of Whine

I did not go running today, so anybody can feel free to judge me, if they are so inclined.  I don’t know if I can manage much more than a Tired Tuesday post.  But maybe I could share a few photos of a previous Mohawk Valley Adventure I did not write about.

We often go to wine tastings at Valley Wine and Liquor in Herkimer,  as I believe I have mentioned.  We took a number of pictures at a recent tasting of 19 Crimes wine, one of my all time favorites (what a surprise).  Above is the lovely lady who poured.

19 Crimes wines have a different crime printed on each cork.  Naturally I am trying to collect all nineteen.  Full disclosure: I don’t have any idea how close I am.

An employee of the store also got in on the fun.

We had a fun time tasting the wine and taking pictures. And now I have managed to make a post NOT whining about how I can’t make a decent post today.
