Not the Hole Story

Sooo… by making my Tuesday blog post on time, I broke my streak, because I did not post anything yesterday, Wednesday.  I can’t get too exercised over it, though, because by my rules for me, this will count as my Wuss-out Wednesday post, and my streak will only be broken if I fail to post anything for Thursday, whether I post it today or early Friday morning (ooh, yes, tomorrow is Friday) (with apologies to all those who work Saturday).

What could this be?

This may look like a random photo for Waste Not Want Not Wednesday, but it is much more than that, at least in my twisted mind.  It is a well outside the Herkimer County Historical Society.  They dug in this well for artifacts some years ago and found some interesting things.  Now, as you see it is overgrown.  But could it have future relevance and interest?  At least fictionally, it could!

I took this picture after walking to the Society to purchase some post cards (regular readers know I like to send post cards to people).  I thought it would inspire me.  You see, I began writing a murder mystery for the Historical Society centering around this very hole in the ground (ooh, I just thought of a good title for this post!).  Full disclosure:  I began to write it last year for our fall show but felt it was too complicated a plot for my brain at the time.  I wrote Lights, Camera, Murder! instead, which I think worked out pretty well.  More recently I came across the notes for the other and was surprised by how much I had written on it.  I said, “Heeyyyy!”  or some such expression.

Many accept the rule that writing about not writing is still writing.  I will add that writing about what one is going to write is also still writing.  Now I just have to write it.

(That last sentence would have made a good title too.)

Monsters Help Me Over The Hump

Since it is Wednesday, how about a Mid-Week Monsters Post?  For one reason, it is still Wednesday.  Perhaps I can make at least one post this week on time.

Sometimes I just want to scream!

This is a shot from The Screaming Skull,  one of my favorite cheesy horror movies. I think I have written about it in this space but, alas, am too tired to seek out the post and link back to it.  Perhaps a little Wuss-out Wednesday is sneaking into the post as well as my day.

I’d be scared too!

After scrolling through my Media Library for a bit, I came across this shot from Nosferatu which I have  shared before.  He is scary, yes.

I was wondering that myself.

Here is an appropriate shot and caption from Young Frankenstein, a thoroughly enjoyable movie.  If you have not seen it, I highly recommend it.

I toast my monsters.

I add this lovely wine glass, which I sadly knocked down and broke to last Halloween.  I  must return to Pumpkin Junction in Sauquoit to purchase another.

The master.

Looking for one more monster to round out the post, I thought I could not do better than Bela Lugosi as Dracula.  Many consider him the quintessential vampire.  I think he is wonderful.

This brings me over 200 words, yes!  Happy Wednesday,  everyone!

Is It Really Wednesday?

OK, all I really have right now is that title.  I guess that makes this either a Wordless or a Wuss-out Wednesday when what I really feel like making is a Mid-week Monsters Post.

Of course, she does have a pretty face.

This is the movie I wanted to watch on Severed Head Sunday.  Unfortunately, I only have it on a DVD collection, not a DVD all by itself.  And with my current DVD situation, I can only put the disc in and hit Play; I can’t arrow over or down to play the second movie on the disc.  No Special Features either, although I rarely got into watching those.  Not that I mean to harp on my first world problems.

“First world problems are still problems!”

Here is my skeleton Bonita having a Wrist to Forehead moment.  I have been feeling a little apt to swoon these days, in my more dramatic moments (of course I have many dramatic moments; I am a theatre person, after all). I guess I don’t have a theme for today’s post.  It is being made out of a desire to post every day, and not to make this post late.

Is that Pinot Noir?

Sometimes the best thing to do is just pour yourself a glass of wine and hope for a better post tomorrow.  I purchased that glass at Pumpkin Junction in Sauquoit, NY, just to mention a local business.  I stupidly broke it last Halloween. Perhaps I can get another one this fall.

In the meantime,  I am over 250 words.  Not bad for a silly post.  I am going to take my own advice: sip a little wine and hope for a better post tomorrow.  As always I hope you’ll stay tuned.

Not Wuss-out, Shout-out!

I should have known I would wuss out on Wednesday.  I had to work late (for me).  But never mind that.  Instead of another post that is not really a Post (autocorrect decided to capitalize that, and I think I like it), I will share a couple more pictures from my Saturday adventures, thus giving another shout-out to a local business.  I have used this headline before, but I guess I am wussing out on coming up with a better one.

Aren’t they cool?

This is from Rose Quartz Stand in Herkimer, NY, who recently moved next door to a larger space.  They have all kinds of gems and minerals, but I am particularly fascinated by the geodes.  How do the geologists (if those are the ones that find them) know which rocks to crack open?

Very pretty!

I have purchased several of these angels for friends.  Who couldn’t use a little blessing?

There are also some delightful animals carved from stone.  I have a small collection, which I usually add to when I stop there.

Rose Quartz Stand is located on the corner of Mohawk and South Main streets in Herkimer.  315-868-5199. They are open Tuesday and Wednesday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.,  Thursday and Friday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., closed Sunday and Monday.  You can also Like them on Facebook.

Not a Promising Blog Post

What the hell? I just typed in about two paragraphs worth of words, and they are nowhere to be seen!

That is what I ten-finger typed on my laptop (regular readers may recall that now it is exclusively a dining-room-tabletop) after attempting to make a Pre-Rehearsal Post. With the laptop there tends to be a delay, especially when I type fast, as I often do. So I just let my fingers fly then wait for the words to magically appear. Today they did not. In frustration, I typed in the preceding paragraph and gave it up till after rehearsal.

Now it is after rehearsal, and I am reclined in by bed, pecking in one letter at a time with the stylus on my Tablet, which is what I have sadly become used to doing. I am also sadly becoming used to making post after post about, well, nothing in particular. I must do something about that, but I can’t seem to think of any steps I can take right now.

The best thing I can think to do is bill it as a Tired Tuesday Post and hope that tomorrow I can come up with something better than Wuss-Out Wednesday. But as regular readers know, I never make promises about these things.

Late Theatre Throwback Post

So after skipping Tuesday entirely and making Wednesday’s post early Thursday (why didn’t I bill that as a Wuss-out Wednesday? Missed a bet), I took a Blogger’s Sick Day, and unfortunately I mean a literal sick day by not posting at all. It was also a half sick day at work, as I left after four hours and went home to bed. On previous Blogger’s Sick Days I have managed to post a small, whiny thing explaining why I was not making a post. I am becoming a very bad blogger.

It is now early Friday morning. I believe I am well enough to make it through the day at work. As I wait for the cable to re-boot (cable’s sick day?), I thought I would try a Throwback Thursday Post. I only hope my Media Library will not be as recalcitrant as it usually is.

“To be or not….” Oops, wrong play.

This was when LiFT, Little Falls Theatre Company did The Tempest in 2017. I almost wept with happiness when I saw that summer Shakespeare is returning this year (preview of coming attractions).

Here are a few more Tempest characters. I guess I don’t have a whole lot more to say. But when LiFT gets going again, I hope for many good posts. Maybe I can have a new feature: Theatrical Thursday. As always, I hope you’ll stay tuned.

Columbo, Can You Help Me Now?

Can I make my Tired Tuesday Post on Tuesday? Probably not, but I shall try.

I loves me some Peter Falk.

We are watching an episode of Columbo which we DVR’d off MeTV. Oh good God, autocorrect changed MeTV to Meth! I’m watching television not smoking crack! Or is meth different from crack? I don’t know about these things.

That is as far as I got on Tuesday. Now it is Wednesday morning, and I am typing frantically (with ten fingers on the laptop) (which is really a tabletop, since it is permanently ensconced on the dining room table; if we move it at all it will cease to function) (just to give you the picture), trying to get to 200 words. Words do come more quickly with ten fingers. Is my brain moving any faster? Probably not. Let’s not ask for miracles.

Looking ahead, I will probably be making my Wuss-out Wednesday post Thursday morning, since we are planning to go to Fratello’s Pizzeria in Frankfort, NY, tonight to enjoy music by Phillip Arcuri. Yay! Similarly, Thursday’s post will be made Friday morning, because we are heading to Rome to see family. But that is appropriate for Non-Sequitur Thursday, so I am not deterred. Friday, however, may not be Lame Post Friday, because it will not really be Friday for me. Alas, I work Saturday. I am trying not to let the thought color my week too gloomily.

And now I have rattled on for 200 words. Score! Next time I will try for 200 good words, but, as I said, let us not ask for miracles.

Fun Party, Late Post

For this week’s Monstrous Monday Post, I thought I would share a few pictures of the Boo Bash at the Herkimer VFW last Saturday. Unfortunately, after I had downloaded the pictures from my camera, I was too tired to finish the post on Monday. So I thought I could finish it the next day and market it as a Tired Tuesday post. And now here I am Wednesday morning and still nothing published. Judge me if you are so inclined.

Steven especially liked the Reindeer antlers.

Our friend Tracy was visiting us from out of town. At her current job she is known as a woman who wears many hats. She decided to embrace it for her costume and wear almost every hat she owns. I should have taken several views, because you can’t see all the hats. I missed a bet!

I liked Steve’s had, too.

Steven kept it simple with a Halloween sweatshirt and pumpkin hat. I walked around snapping a few pictures of the decor.

He looks as if he’s making a little bow.

Nice centerpieces.
The bartender said this was his brother.

The DJ was from Bug Country, a local country radio station. He kept the party going with door prizes and good music.

He was fun.
A closer look at his costume.
He brought a couple friends.

There were a lot of fun costumes, but I only got a picture of my favorite. During the costume competition, I was among the people chanting, “Bridezilla! Bridezilla!”

Her groom was pretty cool, too.

After I took the picture, Bridezilla laughed at herself because she was smiling behind the mask. There were a lot of reasons to smile. It was a fun night.

Why in the world did it take me three days to make a post about it? Discuss amongst yourselves.

It Is a Black and Grey Scarf

So I guess yesterday was a true Wuss-out Wednesday, since I declined to post at all. What, I wonder, is my problem? I actually wrote quite a bit before work and on breaks, blog and novel. Then I came home, hung out for a bit, went to dinner, came home, and knitted while watching Dateline. I finished another scarf. Anybody need a scarf?

Is this for Corn Hole?

We ate at The Tin Cup Tavern and Grille, just south of Little Falls, NY on Route 5. I am hoping to write about them for Mohawk Valley Living magazine. The deadline is today. Yikes!

Full disclosure: the article is mostly written; I just said Yikes to be dramatic. In fact, this was our third visit to the Tin Cup. I really did not feel like cooking.

My question now is: will I post again later so this is a late Wednesday post, or will I fail to post and call this Non-Sequitur Thursday? A little suspense adds interest to my day.

Mid-Week Run, Tired Post

I thought it was supposed to be raining with dropping temperatures this afternoon. When I left work (at my new job, by the way), it had rained but was not doing so currently. Additionally, it was warm. It felt almost summery.

Earlier in the day, I had repented not running Monday and Tuesday. By the time I got home, I realized I might have a chance to redeem myself. It was cloudy and threatening, but MAYBE I could get a run in. And I could write a blog post about it, instead of having a Wuss-out Wednesday!

I happily dressed in shorts and short sleeves. I put a sweatshirt on the porch for my cool-down walk but was not sure I needed it. I set out with high hopes.

For the first few blocks, it was not at all bad. I wasn’t too tired to run! This was great! I turned left onto German Street, keeping on the sidewalk, because afternoon traffic in Herkimer can be heavy.

A mere seven or so minutes into the run (I looked at my Garmin but do not remember the exact time), I felt tired. Just persevere, I told myself. I am up to 45 minutes on my weekend runs. I certainly did not have to go that far today. Still, 15 minutes might be a trifle paltry.

I settled on half of my longest time. 22 1/2 minutes. I ended up going just over 23. It did not start to rain. Score! I petted one nice dog along the way. I felt quite pleased with myself.

Right now I feel more tired than pleased. I’m not sure it was all that great of a run, and as usual, I question the quality of my blog post. However, also as usual, I trust the process. I ran. I posted. Happy Wednesday, everyone!
