Apropos Snow on Tired Tuesday

I’m afraid all I can manage today is a Tired Tuesday Post. I had a rather heinous day at work, but this is not a work blog, so I will not go on about that. In fact, already I’ve said too much.

A little snow to cool us off.

I throw in a picture to pep things up. This was taken a while ago, but today was a snowy day, so I feel it is apropos.

Isn’t he cute?

I snapped the snowman in a neighborhood yard back in November. It feels like years ago. I would like to build a snowman. Perhaps if it is warm enough, but not too warm, this weekend. Then again, I won’t mind if it is too warm, because I am quite looking forward to spring.

Here’s a cheery trio!

Here is a picture taken in December that cheers me up. It is good to be cheered up on a Tuesday.

I think it is even bigger now.

And here is a shot of Frankentree from December 2019. We have roughly the same amount of snow currently. This is getting to be a meandering kind of post. If Tuesday counts as mid-week, I could call this Mid-week Mental Meanderings. I have not used that category in a while.

But is Tuesday really mid-week? That question might keep me up tonight. What a terrible situation on Tired Tuesday.

Fun at the Waterfront

I love the Waterfront Grille in Herkimer, NY. My friend Kim and I had a delightful time there last Saturday.

There were no seats at the bar, my favorite place to sit. However, the owner pointed out a tall table near the bar. Perfect! Kim ordered her usual Moscato. I enjoyed a glass of Sauvignon Blanc, which you can’t get just anywhere. We decided to split an order of calimari. Yum!

Sweet wine, sweet girl!

We took pictures of each other for my blog post. Kim had to maneuver a little to get one of me, because I had my back to the window.

I like wine, yes.

A lady who was having lunch with friends offered to take a picture of both of us. How nice!

They should put us in an ad.

We had a fun time, munching, sipping, and chatting. We looked out the window at the bandstand and thought longingly of warm weather. We hope circumstances permit bands to play there this summer. It would also be nice to go on a canal cruise. However, we enjoyed ourselves at the time, and admired the partially frozen canal. Alas, I forgot to walk around the building and take a picture when we left.

The Waterfront Grille is located at 800 Mohawk St., Herkimer, phone number 315-717-0700.

Inspired to do What?

So there I was, scrolling down Facebook, procrastinating making my Wrist to Forehead Sunday Post, and the following meme inspired me.

Or am I easily inspired?

I was not necessarily inspired to start this blog post. I point this out for any critics who may be thinking that this is not a particularly inspired post (you know who you are). But I feel inspired to start something.

Ooh, I just flashed on the Michael Jackson song about “Got to be Starting Something.”

I can’t dance like that.

Now I am wondering if learning how to put pictures in my blog posts was the best thing for me.

Aaaaaand… the post veers into Non-Sequitur territory. I did say this was Wrist to Forehead Sunday, didn’t I? Well, it truly is, because now I am sitting staring at the screen and can think of very little to say. So I begin to think that just starting is not enough.

The sad thing is, I have two more Mohawk Valley Adventures from yesterday I can write about. Additionally, we have spent the day watching movies, making Sunday Cinema Post perfectly eligible. And I cooked something that I could totally blog about!

And yet, here I sit, blathering on about my inability to blog. Once again I say, what the hell, me?

“One more thing!”

I wanted to add one more picture, so I looked through my Media Library and found Lt. Columbo. Two of the movies we watched were episodes of Columbo.

I must confess, I enjoy making these silly posts, except for the time I spend staring at the screen not knowing what to say next. I hope my lovely readers are at least somewhat entertained.

I Loves Me Some Antiques

My friend Kim and I tried to help out the local economy yesterday with a couple of Mohawk Valley Adventures. We do love to get together on a Saturday. Additionally, I needed some post cards.

They had a million of them!

We started at Mohawk Antiques Mall, on Main Street in Mohawk, NY. I have talked about their huge collection of post cards. However, I like to send my post cards to people, and these are better for collectors. We browsed the rest of the antiques.

I love this sort of thing.

I admired some handmade incidental tables. There were also a couple of great retro kitchen tables which I did not get a picture of. We saw a lot of glassware we liked. Kim purchased a set of four cocktail glasses. She promised to use them at a party, to which she will certainly invite me, when such things are possible again.

We looked for Superman.

The other thing that caught our eyes was the old phone booth. I love antique stores, even if I don’t have the money or space to buy everything I would like. This was a fun first stop. I’ll save our other two stops for future posts.

Now I Lame Me Down to Sleep

I don’t really have anything to make a post about today. I just now sat here trying to think of a quote or saying or something that I could slip “lame” into for Lame Post Friday, and finally came up with the above title. I was thinking about going to bed soon. However, it is earlier than I thought it was. Additionally, I like to make a blog post.

Mmmmm… wine…

Yes, I am enjoying a glass of white wine. I found the above picture in my Media Library. I have not seen wine from Domhnall Vineyard in a long time. I hope they are still in business. I loved their Baco Noir. As for that picture, it looks like the glass has water and novelty ice cubes in it, the kind with fake bugs. I can’t really tell and am not sure how to research the matter.

Ah yes, snow.

I add a wintery picture for good measure. We got a goodly amount of snow earlier this week. I walked to work a couple of times, sometimes in the road, which was slightly more clear than the sidewalk. Today was mostly cold, so that was alright to drive in.

No, it’s not Sunday; this was the easiest logo to find.

I am currently looking at an episode of Snapped. I truly cannot get enough murder and mayhem.

I just thought of a better title for today’s post: “Don’t Wine About the Snow; Watch Some TV!” It does not use the word “lame,” but I feel sure my readers would get the idea. No matter. I have made some semblance of a blog post. I feel reasonably content. Happy Friday, all.

I Don’t Just Wine

I am going to make a Throwback Thursday Post and work on having more Mohawk Valley Valley Adventures tomorrow. Any objections? I thought not.

I wish I was there!

From January 2017, I found this picture of Prospect Falls Winery in Prospect, NY. I love that place! I see by their Facebook page they are open. Not this minute, but tomorrow. There’s an adventure I could get into.

Beer is good, too!

Here is a picture of my husband Steven and me at Woodland Farm Brewery in Utica, NY. That is another site I’d like to visit again.

I think we look nice.

These hot flappers are my friend Kim and I at a Prohibition Party at Gerber 1933 Tavern in Utica. They are temporarily closed, according to their Facebook page. Oh, I hope they re-open soon! I will be there, whether or not I can dress in 1920’s clothes.

And there’s always booze.

I was looking for another picture of 1920’s clothes, but I found this one of the proprietors of DikinDurt Distillery in Herkimer, NY. I believe they are still open at their Smith Road location, as well as being available at some local liquor stores and bars. It is some very fine stuff.

I guess this has been a fairly alcohol-soaked Throwback Thursday Post. But I never drink and drive. In future posts I’ll look to share some sober adventures as well.

In the meantime, I am over 200 words. Happy Thursday, everyone!

RIP, Frau Blucher

Some celebrity deaths hit you harder than others. Sometimes it is because you feel a personal connection or great admiration for them as a person. Sometimes you were just hoping to see them soon in another movie or TV show. It was the last mentioned reason when I heard today that Cloris Leachman had passed away.

Ah, the ’70’s!

I loved Leachman as Phyllis, first on the Mary Tyler Moore Show, then on her spin off. To this day, I know all the words to the theme song of the latter.

One of our favorite artists.

It was in the ’90’s that I heard Leachman was doing a one-woman show about Grandma Moses. Steven and I would have loved to have seen that but did not get the chance.

“Ovaltine!”

Of course one of Leachman’s finest performances is as Frau Blucher in Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein. I did an homage to her in a murder mystery once with the line, “Say it! He! Was! My! Boyfriend!”

I say, thanks for the laughs, Ms. Leachman. Rest in peace.

Maybe they are in heaven sharing a laugh right now.

At least I Put a Title on This One

I just realized I never put a title on yesterday’s post. What was that all about? I was trying to think of one then took a break to add categories and tags, and apparently I just forgot. What a silly head.

Regarding my vow to write better blog posts, I am not doing so well. I started to write something while at work but left the notebook it was in at work.

I put my cell phone in my pocket while I walked home, thinking I could get some snowy pictures for a Pedestrian Post. Unfortunately, it was a little too snowy. We had some semblance of a blizzard (nothing too bad for Central New York). The wind blew sharp, cold flakes into my face and eyes (note to self: wear a scarf) (even if it didn’t help so much when I was running). Additionally, I was afraid all that snow would get my phone wet.

So I guess this is another dull little post about the difficulties of daily blogging. But I am determined to do better. I have had these stretches before: one foolish post after another. Then I do better. I can and shall do better.

In the meantime, I am going to call this a Tired Tuesday Post and drive on. I hope my local readers (and anyone else who needs to) is staying warm.

I have been sitting here, clicking back and forth from “Add new post,” thinking that I just cannot write another post about not being able to make a proper blog post. Which is silly, because of course I can; I do it all the time. Additionally, it is Monstrous Monday. Why shouldn’t I make another post of monster pictures and random remarks? Yet, I feel I should be making more posts about the Mohawk Valley.

A common complaint.

My lack of Mohawk Valley Adventures is really getting on my nerves. It is largely because of these COVID times. My beloved community theatres are dark. Some of my favorite local businesses are closing their doors, we hope temporarily. Community events are rare or virtual. Why am I going on about this? We all know it.

This was in The Emporium in Herkimer, taken during a past adventure.

The other reason for my lack of adventuring is that I went back to work. My body and brain really got used to sitting home. And, it just this minute occurs to me, I am NOT used to learning a new job. I was over nine years at by last job. No wonder I am so tired!

I’m buried in difficulties!

Or am I just making excuses?

I suppose I am. However, I have gotten up to 200 words, my rather arbitrary goal. I will look about me for more local topics for future posts. As always, I hope you’ll stay tuned.

Short Run, Sunday Post

I have not gone running for two weeks. At my age, that is far too long. This morning, despite the cold, I ran. So how about a Running Commentary Post in lieu of my usual Wrist to Forehead Sunday? It won’t be a very long post, because it was not a very long run. What do you want from an overweight, middle-aged lady?

I had not planned on running. The roads are still covered with snow and ice, which is what deterred me all last week (it was my own laziness the week before). And it was frigid cold. Double digits, but barely. It was 11 degrees according to my thermostat, which often reads warmer than the actual outdoor temperature. I figured after two weeks it would be like starting all over anyways, so why not wait a few more days?

As the morning wore on, however, I damn well felt like it. I was, I realized, sick of not running. So I got into running clothes and went. In addition to leggings, long sleeves, a hat and gloves, I put a scarf around my neck and wore a zip-up sweatshirt.

Of course the scarf was not the miracle I was hoping for. My neck was warm, but I could not get it to properly cover my cheeks. Yes, it was face-hurting cold. Never mind, I told myself. Just go for 15 minutes. 15 minutes. Nobody could ask for more in this cold. Oh, well, I guess somebody could.

I started out running in the road but switched to the sidewalk on German Street, which usually has more traffic. The sidewalks were snow-covered rather than icy. This was excellent, I told myself. Look how much effort it takes to run in the snow. I would burn all kind of calories!

It did not take long for that to get old, and I switched back to the road when I turned down a side street. I went back and forth between sidewalk and road, snowy and bare, as the opportunity offered. Other than my face and my hands, I didn’t feel too bad. It was worse for my hands when I would take off my gloves to pull a tissue out of my pocket and blow my nose. Sometimes, I pulled my fingers into the palms of the gloves and made fists. That’s an old army trick to get warm.

I ended up running 16 minutes, 17 seconds, 1.22 miles, according to my Garmin. I tracked my cool down walk with the Garmin, too: 9 minutes, 46 seconds, .46 miles. I walked through more effort-inducing snow on the cool down. It felt pretty good, and my recovery beverage of chocolate mild tasted really good.

For the rest of tne day, I proceeded to eat like the huge honking hogger I am, thus negating the calorie-burning benefits of the run, but let us not dwell on such negativity. I ran. I wrote a blog post. It is a good Sunday.
