Rattling Out Another Late Post

I had meant to make a Sunday Cinema post, till I fell asleep during the second feature.  I am going through this phase where I would rather sleep than do almost anything else.  Incidentally, I am on our laptop. typing with all ten fingers (Full disclosure: I  tend not to use the left thumb, but nine-fingered typing sounds like I lost a finger).  Ah, Steven just brought me coffee. That will help.

We are both up earlier than our usual stupid hour of arising, me to make my blog post, Steven I think because I got up.  He is nice that way.  Anyways, this is just going to be one of my Rattle On For 200 Or So Words posts.  That is not one of my official categories, but I suppose it ought to be, since it  is what so many of my blog posts turn out to be (oh, it is MUCH more fun to type with all ten fingers than one letter at a time with the stylus) (although, come to think of it,  it is still one letter at a time.  They just follow one after the other a lot faster).

Where was I?  Apologizing, perhaps, for yet another late post.  I guess I’m not the daily blogger I thought I was.  It is kind of a depressing thought, since I did not consider myself such hot stuff as a blogger anyways.  Oh, I know people enjoy me; I was not putting myself down.  Only, I set the bar for myself kind of low. Post every day, that is my ambition.  Well, I will try to meet that standard at least, going forward from now.  In the meantime, I’m going to drink my coffee and try to do a couple of other things I didn’t get to this weekend.

Friday the Lame 13th

Hello and welcome to Lame Post Friday.   I am sitting on my deck and hoping that my neighbor finishes mowing his lawn soon.  My lawn could probably use a going over, but that is not on my agenda for this evening.  Anyways, the sound of the mower can count as a Random Observation.  Regular readers know how I like to make random observations on Lame Post Friday.

Oh, how nice.  The first fellow finished, and now a neighbor down the street is working on his lawn!  At least it is further away so not as loud. I suppose I seem rather churlish, complaining about those industriously working while I sit at my leisure.  Well, I can’t help appearances.  Perhaps I am churlish.  I believe I also have some socially redeeming qualities.

There, those last few sentences can count as Half-Baked Philosophy, the other component of a true Friday Lame Post.

I am sorry to keep harping on about my health (or lack thereof) issues, but I am once again not feeling well.  I am hoping it is merely allergies and a decongestant at bedtime will set things right.

In the meantime, I will attempt to pep up this post with a picture or two.  I am enjoying the sight of our Brown-Eyed Susan’s peeping over the edge of the deck.

They want to say hello.

Hmm… It’s a better shot of the deck rail, but perhaps you can get the idea.  Here is a picture of the flowers I took earlier in the season.

We think they are pretty.

I am feeling the distinct urge to finish with a monster photo.  It is Friday the 13th.  I wonder if I can find…

I think this was really a Mother’s Day picture.

This is from the Friday the 13th movies, right? For all my love of horror, I am woefully illiterate about ’70’s slasher flicks. No matter.  I see I am over 300 words.  I think that is fine for Lame Post Friday.  Enjoy the weekend, all!

We Will Be Fabulous!

I may have mentioned our upcoming murder mystery to benefit the Herkimer County Historical Society.   Well, I am hard at work on it and keep coming up with more ideas. The title is Fabulous and Fatal, and the characters are all drag queens.  Rehearsals will begin soon, and I will share more about the characters and plot (but I will NOT give away all the secrets!).  For today, I took a couple of pictures of props I intend to use.

But there may be wine instead of corks in it.  Or do I mean poison?

I received this hand painted glass as a gift from the cast of Leading Ladies, which I directed at Ilion Little Theatre in 2016.  I thought it would be an excellent thing to use.  Or do I mean a fabulous thing?

Same glass, other side.

Another clue will be a cash box.  At first I had thoughts of purchasing an actual cash box and dressing it up with rhinestones and a hot glue gun.  Then I remembered I have a suitable box already, a gift of the same cast.

It’s a pretty awesome box.

Of course, this box is wood, not metal as I had originally envisioned.  But it is so beautiful,  how can I resist using it?  My only regret is that now I do not have occasion to use my hot glue gun.  Maybe I can come up with a few more props.  Hmm….

Fabulous and Fatal will be presented Friday, October 18th, at 5:30 p.m, at the Travel Lodge in Little Falls,  NY.  Tickets are $30.  For tickets or more information, contact the historical society at 315-866-6413.

Wuss-out Wednesday With Witches

I can’t wait to put her out again this year!

I was afraid I would have another Blogger’s Sick Day.  Then I thought I could manage a Mid-Week Monsters post.  Unfortunately I made a Monstrous Monday post.  Dare I have too many monsters?  So I thought a Wuss-out Wednesday post would be OK.  Still, pictures always dress up a post.  That was when I thought of Wednesday Witches.  How could I resist?

Today’s first witch is one of our own porch decorations.  We found her at Pumpkin Junction in Sauquoit,  NY.  I will be glad to go there again this year!

Witches love to make shadow puppets.

One problem is that I do not seem to have many pictures of witches in my Media Library.  I must step up my picture game.  Still, who doesn’t love Margaret Hamilton?  Many consider her Wicked Witch of the West in The Wizard of Oz to be the quintessential hag.

A few members of a scary coven.

This is from Horror Hotel, one of my favorite Halloween movies.  These are truly evil witches, not fun, friendly brew mama’s like the one in the first picture.

I cast a spell on you!

I suppose some of you were making jokes about me being a witch (perhaps spelled with a b) since reading the headline (you know who you are).  Well, this is me at the Ilion Days DooDah Parade in 2018.  It is actually my wizard outfit, but I substituted the witch’s hat, because it was a sunny day and I wanted the brim.

I think Wednesday Witches may become a semi-regular thing.  Any thoughts?

Who, Me? Run?

So I went for a run this afternoon, describing the way I move in a most generous fashion. I am still dithering about the Falling Leaves 14K,  and today’s exercise did not further incline me to take the challenge. However, one must take the bad runs to get to the good ones.  I do not despair.

After work I got myself into running clothes and out the door before I had a chance to talk myself out of it.  Earlier I had entertained wild thoughts of running up to Herkimer College.  After all, I am running over an hour on the weekends.  Surely I can handle more of a challenge during the week (I am calling myself Shirley in this context).

A few steps down the sidewalk I thought I was not up to any challenge whatsoever.  I wondered if I was even up to a lousy 20 minute run.  Nevertheless, when I had the chance, I crossed German Street.  This put me on the path to a few different hills. I thought I could manage a hill. A small hill.

I ran up the hill by Valley Health.  As I ran up it, in fact, on the last few times I have run up it, I reflected that it is not an inconsiderable hill. I really must take a walk with my Tablet and take some pictures of these hills.  My readers will either say, “Why, yes, that is a hill,” or “What a wuss!  That’s no hill!”

When I got to the top of the hill, my legs felt like overcooked macaroni!  And I was less than eight minutes into the run!  Crap!  I continued, hoping to avoid any more major upslopes.  There are some really good hills in that area.  I hope to run them again but was not into it today.

As I ran on, eventually my legs started to feel a little better.  I reminded myself of how I sometimes don’t hit the I Can Rock This stage till a good 20 minutes into the run.  I further reminded myself that I have found I can keep running for just about as long as I decide to.

Soon my body was urging me to decide on a SHORT run. I ignored it. My legs felt better or worser by turns, but I persevered and ended up running for 26 minutes.  I did not feel terrific on my cool down walk.  When I took my shower, I wished I had one of those old lady stools so I could sit down.

So, yes, I can be a big baby about these things.  I comfort myself by reflecting that (a) I did so run and (b) I made a blog post about it.  Perhaps I can improve on the run and the blog in the future.

I Love Vampires on Monstrous Monday

A sentiment often shared.

If I had stuck with retail hours, perhaps Monday would be less heinous.  However, Friday would be less joyous.  We make these trade-offs in life.  This by way of introduction to another Monstrous Monday post.  My life is not so horrible, by the way.  I feel happy to have gotten through Monday. I do not worry about what Tuesday will bring.

“Pull the string! Pull the string!”

This is Martin Landau as Bela Lugosi in Ed Wood, a tour de force performance in an excellent movie.  I will be watching that movie again soon, as it is one of my favorite Halloween movies.

No Smoking, but he is smoking hot!

This is related in a twisted way.  Martin Landau plays Bela Lugosi,  who is well known for playing a vampire.  Here is a well known vampire, Blackula.  It’s a good flick. I would like to have it in my collection.

“I bid you velcome.”

To cap things off, here is Bela Lugosi himself as Dracula.  That brings things to a nice conclusion, I think.  Maybe not, though.  Maybe I should have closed with Boris Karloff, to hook into the first image.   Oh dear.  Well, we cannot always do the ideal thing.  At least I have made my Monstrous Monday post.

For a Sunday Post, It Will Have To Do

It is SO Wrist to Forehead Sunday today!  I don’t want to make a post.  I don’t want to do anything!  What a bum!

The only reason I am typing anything at all (as Truman Capote famously said, “That’s not writing, that’s typing”) is that I do not want to be typing at 4 a.m. tomorrow.  I know, I said posting in the morning was going to be a thing, but I don’t want to HAVE to do it. Am I making sense?  Probably not,  but as usual, I ask you to bear with me.

We had a fun time earlier with our friend Kim at the End Zone Pub and Grub.  There is not much else I can say about that, and, alas, I did not take pictures.  Pictures always do pep up a post, don’t they?

Isn’t she pretty?

Just to prove that point, I put in a picture of Kim.  This is at Dikin Durt Distillery in Herkimer, NY.  That lets me include another plug for a local business.  I need to get back to Dikin Durt soon.  I could use another bottle of moonshine for coffee of questionable moral fiber purposes.

So this is my blog post for today.  Two small plugs for local businesses and a little whining about How I Can’t Make a Post.  It will have to do.

Just to also include a picture of the End Zone.

To Fall Or Just To Leave?

I guess I’ll have to stop apologizing for making late blog posts; I’m afraid it is just going to happen.  Anyways, I thought I would take this morning’s 200 or so words to dither about the Falling Leaves 14K in Utica two weeks from today.

I have long wanted to run that.  I understand it is a beautiful and challenging course.  I need to challenge myself.  In fact, sometimes I even need to Double Dog Dare myself.  So why the hesitation?

Well, for one reason, the race is only 1K less than the Boilermaker.  That is not a distance to be undertaken lightly.  And I would not be undertaking it lightly.   I have been running all summer, slowly building myself up.  I feel that I am in pretty damn good shape (from some angles my actual shape could stand improvement, but I digress).

Basically what happens is all week I feel tired and discouraged.  I think of keeping up my running three to five days a week while working.  I think about driving to Utica and looking for a parking space after luckily finding where the race starts (I know these considerations do not bother some people, but I seem to be more easily intimidated in some respects), and I say, “I just can’t take the pressure.”

Then I go for a long run on the weekend, get all endorphinned up, and say, “This is AWESOME!   I am SO doing the Falling Leaves 14K!”  Yesterday on my cool down walk, I met a neighbor who runs and asked was he doing the race.  He has not signed up yet but has done it in the past and recommends it.  He is a younger guy in great shape.  I daresay he does not need to constantly consider the calendar and calculate how fast 10 percent per week will add up, as I do.

Right now I am in the discouraged portion of my dithering (although I do feel challenged to refute that parenthetical comment about being easily intimidated.  Me? Intimidated? SAY IT AIN’T SO! ). However, I have not gone on this morning’s run yet.  I expect I will feel differently then.  In any case, I am now over 300 words.  Quite respectable for a late post. I shall now get on with my Sunday.

Surely Everybody Loves Halloween

I do not want to get up early tomorrow and make a late post for today.  Surely I can manage a Friday Lame Post (and I will call you Shirley if I want to).

My allergies have been kicking my butt this week. I can’t be too upset about that, though, because it means fall is coming. I love fall!  After all, who needs to breathe?  And the lightheadedness?  I can handle that.  Bring on the colored leaves, pumpkin spice coffee, and HALLOWEEN!

I guess they went on the South Beach Diet.

Here is a shot from Pumpkin Junction in Sauquoit, NY.  I can’t wait to get back there again!

And here’s a friendly guy!

To continue the Halloween theme, here is an awesome decoration sent to me by my friend Marsha.  At least, she sent me the pot.  I added the orange stuff and vampire.

They look suspicious to me!

Here is a picture from a fall murder mystery, with a ghoulish theme.  We are working on a new murder mystery (preview of coming attractions).

I guess all I am going to do today is post pictures and write a sentence or two about them.  I find that appropriate for Lame Post Friday.

“Is this the blog post you wanted me for?”

I have not used a shot of Nosferatu in a while, have I?  I do love to close with my favorite.  Happy Friday, everyone.

A Peek at the Past with Cindy and Steve

OK, so my post this morning counted for Wednesday,  and this is my Thursday post,  made on Thursday (despite what my WordPress timestamp might say), so I’ve got that going for me.  I thought I would indulge in a Throwback Thursday,  using pictures from my Media Library.  Hey, I’m making the day’s post on the day; let’s not ask for miracles.

This was a while ago.

Here is a shot I go back to again and again.  It is Steve’s and my wedding day in 1990 (1990? Yikes!).   These days we prefer to drink champagne from a flute.  Live and learn, I guess.  I also prefer the drier stuff these days, although I cherish memories of good times with Asti Spumante.

Yes, I am giving him The Look.

Maybe I will make this a Steve and Cindy Day.  For one reason,  I love this picture of Steve and me in Harvey at Ilion Little Theatre in 2012.  I’m Veda Louise Simmons; Steven is Dr. Chumley. A great theatre memory.

I should have found a better wig.

I include this one, because it is one I haven’t shared as often.  I am portraying the ghost of Roxalana Druse at the 1834 Jail in Herkimer, NY.  It was a fundraiser for the Herkimer County Historical Society.  I shamefully forget what year.

Steven and I have had some fun times together.  But we will have to take a few more pictures, for blogging purposes, if nothing else.  In the meantime,  I hope you have enjoyed my Throwback Thursday post.
