I am taking a Blogger’s Sick Day. I don’t know if this is a sinus infection or what. I know it isn’t COVID, because I just had a rapid test on Friday. I’m pretty sure it is just my sinuses playing their usual tricks.
I was going to have a pretty swell Monstrous Monday Post, too. But I can’t do it. I can’t even whine for 200 words. In fact, I’m still under 100 and I am signing off. As always, I hope for a better blog post tomorrow.
I did go running this morning, and oh was it ever cold! I thought I would make a Sunday Running Commentary Post to make it worth my while.
I have not been running during the week lately, which is very bad of me. I walked to and from work three days this past week, but that is only eleven or twelve minutes each way (yes, I look at my watch and check). Well, one does what one can. I strive always for improvement. Hence, running both weekend days and beginning the week with hope.
My thermostat said the outdoor temperature was 17, which is practically 20, so I hoped for the best. At least I found both mittens. They are really good mittens, which I accidentally stole from my sister Diane some years ago.
As it turned out, my hands were my only warm parts. And they got cold when I took off the mittens to blow my nose, which I obvious had to do a lot. Why oh why, did I have to be running into the wind? Why oh why did the wind have to change direction every time I did?
I had told myself I only had to run for 15 minutes. I ran for 20 on Saturday. There is no harm in doing short runs when I have not been running much. I have plenty of time to build up for this year’s Boilermaker 15K.
The cold was really my only problem. My legs, my back, my breathing all felt fine. I was quite discouraged by the weather, because I could not enjoy the run very much. At least the roads were mostly bare.
I kept it up for 18 minutes, which I felt was pretty good. I see this blog post is approaching 300 words, which also ought to feel pretty good. Unfortunately I fear they have been dull words, but I can’t seem to help that. Maybe the cold froze my brain. On the other hand, I can always count this as a Wrist to Forehead Sunday. I hope to see you all again on Monday.
Let us be perfectly honest about the fact that I am doing my post despite the fact that my computer flatly refuses to put the obvious anticipatory words on my predictive text.
This was the paragraph I typed last night (as Truman Capote famously said, that’s not writing). Then I gave it up as a bad job. Steven and I had been to the 5th anniversary celebration of the End Zone Pub and Grub in Herkimer. Too much to drink? SAY IT AIN’T SO!!!
Actually, it was not so. For one reason, we drove to the pub so kept it under control. However, when we got home, we were so into watching movies and hanging out, my blog post just went by the wayside.
It is going by the wayside again this morning, because I want to go running. Will I make a better blog post later? I can only hope.
I am tired. I have been tired all week. But I must not complain about these things. I want to make a silly blog post.
I didn’t see him at Happy Hour.
I am relieved it is Friday. Weeks are funny to me. For four days, I feel Friday will never get here. Then I think, “Wow, that week went fast!” What the hell, me?
Red or white? It’s Friday night!
I just looked through my Media Library till I found a picture with wine. In fact, I am drinking neither red nor white but rose. Unfortunately, unlike other glasses of wine, it is not making me feel fresh as a nosegay.
I hope to revive myself with a good night’s sleep. I have a lot to get done on Saturday. Perhaps I will write a blog post about it. But no promises.
After a heinous week.
I’m afraid this is a dull post, but I leave you with a good thought, courtesy Bill and Ted. Here is how tired I am. I first wrote “Ted and Bill.” Then I thought, “That’s not right.” But I felt sure those were their names. I had to do a Facebook search for “excellent adventure.”
At least I have gotten to 200 words. I hope you are having a lovely Friday.
I wonder if I can make a Throwback Thursday Post without repeating myself too much. Then again, Throwback is revisiting the past, so perhaps it does not matter that much.
One of my favorites!
I know this is a picture I have shared numerous times, but I saw it just now in February 2017 and could not resist. For those of you just tuning in, it is Rubbed Out at Ruby’s, the interactive murder mystery I wrote for LiFT, Little Falls Theatre Company.
She is hot, yes.
Scrolling through my Media Library looking for more, I came across the inimitable Laura Powers, in her character of Zelda Helsinki.
I have never been shy about showing a little leg.
Since this is turning out to be a Ruby-themed post, here I am as Ruby VanRensselaer. I had a lot of fun with that role.
More 1920’s fun.
These are not characters from Rubbed Out at Ruby’s, but they are from the same era. This picture is from a fundraiser for the Landmarks Society of Greater Utica.
Once again, my Throwback Thursday Post has made me nostalgic for theatre. I’ll be back onstage one day! I hope. Or amongst the tables at dinner theatre. Or hamming it up at a fundraiser. In the meantime, Happy Thursday, folks!
I finally purchased a few postcards last Saturday at Gems Along the Mohawk. This is a wonderful shop that showcases many local businesses and attractions. It is also where you can get tickets for Erie Canal Cruises, when they have them.
Just one view.
Unfortunately, I did not take many pictures. What was that all about, me?
I got this far last night, after attempting and failing to complete a Pedestrian Post for which I even had more pictures. Now I am on break at work, pecking into my phone, without a stylus (and you know I have fat fingers)
Where was I? Ah yes, making a Wuss-Out Wednesday Post on Thursday morning. And this is as far as I can go. Appropriate, no?
I love the Waterfront Grille in Herkimer, NY. My friend Kim and I had a delightful time there last Saturday.
There were no seats at the bar, my favorite place to sit. However, the owner pointed out a tall table near the bar. Perfect! Kim ordered her usual Moscato. I enjoyed a glass of Sauvignon Blanc, which you can’t get just anywhere. We decided to split an order of calimari. Yum!
Sweet wine, sweet girl!
We took pictures of each other for my blog post. Kim had to maneuver a little to get one of me, because I had my back to the window.
I like wine, yes.
A lady who was having lunch with friends offered to take a picture of both of us. How nice!
They should put us in an ad.
We had a fun time, munching, sipping, and chatting. We looked out the window at the bandstand and thought longingly of warm weather. We hope circumstances permit bands to play there this summer. It would also be nice to go on a canal cruise. However, we enjoyed ourselves at the time, and admired the partially frozen canal. Alas, I forgot to walk around the building and take a picture when we left.
The Waterfront Grille is located at 800 Mohawk St., Herkimer, phone number 315-717-0700.
So there I was, scrolling down Facebook, procrastinating making my Wrist to Forehead Sunday Post, and the following meme inspired me.
Or am I easily inspired?
I was not necessarily inspired to start this blog post. I point this out for any critics who may be thinking that this is not a particularly inspired post (you know who you are). But I feel inspired to start something.
Ooh, I just flashed on the Michael Jackson song about “Got to be Starting Something.”
I can’t dance like that.
Now I am wondering if learning how to put pictures in my blog posts was the best thing for me.
Aaaaaand… the post veers into Non-Sequitur territory. I did say this was Wrist to Forehead Sunday, didn’t I? Well, it truly is, because now I am sitting staring at the screen and can think of very little to say. So I begin to think that just starting is not enough.
The sad thing is, I have two more Mohawk Valley Adventures from yesterday I can write about. Additionally, we have spent the day watching movies, making Sunday Cinema Post perfectly eligible. And I cooked something that I could totally blog about!
And yet, here I sit, blathering on about my inability to blog. Once again I say, what the hell, me?
“One more thing!”
I wanted to add one more picture, so I looked through my Media Library and found Lt. Columbo. Two of the movies we watched were episodes of Columbo.
I must confess, I enjoy making these silly posts, except for the time I spend staring at the screen not knowing what to say next. I hope my lovely readers are at least somewhat entertained.
My friend Kim and I tried to help out the local economy yesterday with a couple of Mohawk Valley Adventures. We do love to get together on a Saturday. Additionally, I needed some post cards.
They had a million of them!
We started at Mohawk Antiques Mall, on Main Street in Mohawk, NY. I have talked about their huge collection of post cards. However, I like to send my post cards to people, and these are better for collectors. We browsed the rest of the antiques.
I love this sort of thing.
I admired some handmade incidental tables. There were also a couple of great retro kitchen tables which I did not get a picture of. We saw a lot of glassware we liked. Kim purchased a set of four cocktail glasses. She promised to use them at a party, to which she will certainly invite me, when such things are possible again.
We looked for Superman.
The other thing that caught our eyes was the old phone booth. I love antique stores, even if I don’t have the money or space to buy everything I would like. This was a fun first stop. I’ll save our other two stops for future posts.
I don’t really have anything to make a post about today. I just now sat here trying to think of a quote or saying or something that I could slip “lame” into for Lame Post Friday, and finally came up with the above title. I was thinking about going to bed soon. However, it is earlier than I thought it was. Additionally, I like to make a blog post.
Mmmmm… wine…
Yes, I am enjoying a glass of white wine. I found the above picture in my Media Library. I have not seen wine from Domhnall Vineyard in a long time. I hope they are still in business. I loved their Baco Noir. As for that picture, it looks like the glass has water and novelty ice cubes in it, the kind with fake bugs. I can’t really tell and am not sure how to research the matter.
Ah yes, snow.
I add a wintery picture for good measure. We got a goodly amount of snow earlier this week. I walked to work a couple of times, sometimes in the road, which was slightly more clear than the sidewalk. Today was mostly cold, so that was alright to drive in.
No, it’s not Sunday; this was the easiest logo to find.
I am currently looking at an episode of Snapped. I truly cannot get enough murder and mayhem.
I just thought of a better title for today’s post: “Don’t Wine About the Snow; Watch Some TV!” It does not use the word “lame,” but I feel sure my readers would get the idea. No matter. I have made some semblance of a blog post. I feel reasonably content. Happy Friday, all.
