Cold Run! Warm Post?

I have not done a Saturday Running Commentary Post in a while, although I usually do run on Saturday. I thought I would attempt one today.

I have been watching the weather with some measure of attention (regular readers know I rarely pay much attention to anything) so knew it was likely to be cold. Accordingly, I put on long sleeves and leggings. I found an extra warm hat and mittens in the closet (which I recently cleaned, so that wasn’t too hard). I found my one pair of actual mittens, which I accidentally stole from my sister Diane some years ago, because I figured mere gloves would not be sufficient. I debated wearing a sweatshirt for the run and something warmer for the cool-down walk, but decided my road-guard vest would add another layer. I clicked “Outdoor Run” on my Garmin and waited for it to stop saying, “Wait” (I have not completely figured out this Garmin thing yet).

Off I went and immediately noticed I had forgotten my mittens. I hate stopping a run so pulled my sleeves down over my hands and drove one. It was not long before I regretted leaving the sweatshirt and not putting on a scarf to cover my face. It is a sad truth that the Mohawk Valley is one of those places where at certain times during the year, the air makes your face hurt. Never mind, Cindy, just keep running.

And run I did. Not very far, not very fast, but I was out there trying! I seriously considered running up the hill to Herkimer College. First I turned up Maple Grove (oh dear, is that what that street is called? I don’t know how to Google that) and turned onto Pine (I’m purely guessing here), where there was a short but fairly steep section. This was going pretty well, although my body was not warming up at all.

By the time I had turned a corner and was headed towards Lou Ambers Drive, still debating about the hill to the college or some smaller hills in the residential area I call “the suburbs” in my head. Steven had told me there was little wind, but he was mistaken. Damn it was cold! How long was I going to run, anyways? I did not have to do a super long run in this cold, did I? Then it occurred to me: it is windier at the tops of hills. I turned down Lou Amber Drive and headed back to the village proper.

Oh, this was much better. My body felt… not warm, but not as freezing cold. That continued on and off for the rest of the run, as the wind picked up and died down according to its own caprice. Lately I have been running just to keep in the game, not to build up or meet lofty goals. There is plenty of time for that after I register for the Boilermaker 15K. What, did I say I was never going to run the Boilermaker again? Quite possibly I did. Was it a lie? When I do it, it is called fiction.

I see I am over 500 words. That is the beauty of Running Commentary Posts. Before I know it, I have gone a long way. I wish the runs themselves were like that, but you can’t have everything. Now I must get ready for the rest of my Saturday. My friend Kim messaged me wondering if we were to continue our, as she puts it, reign of terror in the Mohawk Valley. I’m up for that. First a little house cleaning? Let’s not go crazy over here! Happy Saturday, everyone.

Can Horror Icons Help Me Now?

They are fine, yes.

I thought perhaps some famous scary guys could cheer us up a bit. It is time to make my Lame Post Friday post, and I confess, I don’t got much. My sister Vicki tagged me when she shared this picture on Facebook recently. I spent New Year’s Eve watching Vincent Price, but I have not seen Christopher Lee or Peter Cushing in a long time. I need to add to my DVD collection.

Ooh, look, here are more!

I went to my Media Library for more illustration and found this. I guess this is a Horror Icon Post.

I can’t pick!

This is not the picture I was looking for, but I think it fits in with the theme. I wonder if there is a way to organize my Media Library. Well, I can’t worry about that now.

Here it is!

I think this was worth scrolling through the Library twice. I’m afraid this is also a Tired Friday Post, because I am going to stop short of my usual 200 word goal. I hope my readers will forgive me, and tune in tomorrow, for whatever kind of a Saturday Post it turns out to be.

Spunky, Movie, Murder, Melfe’s

I think I can manage a Throwback Thursday Post. I apologize that I have not been living up to my claim of being “totally fun” lately (my logo still says that, doesn’t it?). I comfort myself that many find unrelenting cheerfulness annoying. Thus I look on the bright side of being unable to look on the bright side. Be that as it may, let us get on with the post.

Look at that adorable overbite!

Looking back to January of 2017, I found Spunky, a dog we had for a sadly short time. That basket was not meant to be a dog bed, but Spunkman went over and climbed right in. I would love to adopt a dog in 2021.

Who says you just can’t get a head?

In January 2018, I did not share any personal pictures. I picked a silly still from one of my favorite cheesy horror flicks.

Great read.

From January 2019 I choose a picture of local historical interest. I love local history. I love murder, too.

Alas, no steel-toed work boots for me.

My photo from January 2020 represents a shout-out to a local business and a sad note for me. Every January for the past nine years, I have gone to Melfe’s Shoes in Ilion, NY, for new work shoes. Alas, I no longer work at a factory. Melfe’s carries other shoes as well. Last spring I got some great sneakers there. I shall have to stop in and see if they have anything suited to my current position. That would make a good blog post.

This brings me to January 2021 and over 250 words. Yay me. I hope to see you all tomorrow for Lame Post Friday.

This Is Not Really a Post

I do not want to miss making a post nor yet to make a late post tomorrow, but I am taking a bloggers sick day. I am feeling quite ill as I sit glued to my television watching what could quite possibly be the death of our democracy. Doesn’t that sound embarrassingly melodramatic? But I feel few would disagree.

My day did not start out so great, either. My new job is in a nursing home, and I arrived to find a number of residents tested positive for COVID. Additionally, we are understaffed due to COVID. I am not fully trained so wonder if my presence is helping or hindering. Still, I do my best to make a contribution. Of course we are all following strict protocols to stay safe and stop the spread.

I can’t do anything but stare at the television and feel awful.

Yes, He Brought Me Coffee

Hello, and welcome to another late post, made around five in the morning, ten finger typing on the lap top. I have not even had coffee yet but expect my husband Steven to bring me a cup when he gets himself one right along here.

Last night I began to made a Tired Tuesday Post and just did not want to do it. For one reason, all I wanted to do was whine about how stressed and depressed I felt. For heavens’ sake, many, many people are stressed and depressed. I do not have any more reason to feel so than anybody else, considerably less than some. And from me, it is getting dull.

One thing I did to help myself last night was to go for a run. It was not a bad run. It was certainly not a long run. It felt as if I was running fast, for me. Unfortunately I had my Garmin on and was discouraged to find that fast for me is just under a 13-minute mile. Well, what am I so discouraged about? I am not racing against anybody.

On the brighter side, quite literally, a few people still have their Christmas lights on. Tradition has it we should leave our decorations up till January 6, you know, Twelve Days of Christmas. I have long wanted to throw a Twelfth Night Party. For one reason, it would postpone my Post-Christmas Letdown. For another reason, I like to give a party.

I see I have rambled on for more than 250 words. By my rules for me, that is more than respectable for a Late Tired Tuesday Post. I wonder if I should also categorize this as a Non-Sequitur Post. Or add a category of Just Babble On Till 200 Words Category. Any thoughts?

New Year, New Monsters!

Full disclosure: I just now thought of that title, and now I have to look for some monsters. On the brighter side, it is often easier to download new than it is to scroll through my ever larger Media Library. It is getting a little out of control. Dare I say (wait for it), I’ve created a MONSTER!

Here are a couple more mugs I’d like for our collection. Yesterday I shared a picture of Snapped mugs. If I had not vowed not to scroll through my Media Library, I would throw in the picture of theDeadly Women mug I covet.

Here is a monster that is new to me. I do not know what movie this is from and do not know how to research such a thing. It showed up under Public Photos when I searched “monsters.”

He’s scary!

I have not added a new picture of Nosteratu in a long time. Regular readers know he’s my favorite.

She so pretty!

As I looked at monster pictures, I realize the dearth of female monsters. When I search “female monsters” I got a bunch of scantily clad hotties. This could start a whole new discussion which I am quite frankly not up for.

This has given me an inspiration. I should write a horror novel with a female monster. Yes, yes, I am sure it has been done. However, it has obviously not been done enough. Can I add to literature thusly? I’ll let you know how I make out.

I Take a Break from Murder

Can you feel the sexual tension?

I glance down from the movie to my Tablet to make my blog post. It is Double Indemnity, a favorite of ours. Before that we looked at several episodes of Snapped, most of which dealt with a woman killing her husband. Do you sense a pattern here?

I could use a cup of coffee.

I searched through my Media Library for the picture of Double Indemnity. I did not feel like doing the same for a Snapped logo, so I went to Facebook and found the above photo. Steve and I have plenty of coffee mugs, but I would not say no to one of those.

As you may guess, I do not have much to talk about today. I did not spend the day following my advice from yesterday of Do Something, Anything. I went running, so at least I got some exercise. And now I have made some semblance of a blog post. I guess I’ll call this a Wrist to Forehead Sunday Post and drive on.

I hope to see you all again on Monstrous Monday.

Write Something, Anything

I am afraid this will be a Slacker Saturday Post, although I had hopes of one of the Scattered variety. There was no chance of a Saturday Running Commentary as I woke to rain and icy roads.

After much hesitation (after all, my mother reads do this blog), I must confess that my depression has been kicking my ass lately. I am plagued by indecision, do-nothingism, and general despair.

I feel rotten about myself for giving in to such feelings. Do something, anything, I exhort myself. I am not wrong to do so, because very often doing something, anything can help. Unfortunately, doing something, anything can be very difficult.

Mostly I worry that I am being a whiny baby. Other people have way worse problems than me. I really do have much to be grateful for. I read somewhere that you cannot feel gratitude and depression at the same time. Quite frankly, I don’t know what idiot said that, but I am guessing it is someone who never suffered from depression.

So I am embarrassed for sharing my possibly unjustified tears and sadness. Yet I dare to do so in case somebody reading this feels the same way. It is such a comfort to feel that one is not alone.

As for myself, I will continue to do what I can: exercise, eat right, and strive to do something, anything. For example, make a blog post every day, as I like to do. Here is Saturday’s. Thank you for tuning in. I hope you will return for whatever kind of post Sunday’s turns out to be.

Lame Post New Year’s

We had a delightful New Year’s Eve with the result (but really, who knows where to place blame and what good does it do anyways?) that I had a wanging headache this morning. Once the headache passed, we had an enjoyable New Year’s Day. Now I must make my blog post. On the brighter side, holiday or not, it is Lame Post Friday.

I have been thinking about writing a post pondering the idea of New Year’s Resolutions. New Year’s Resolutions have fallen into disrepute. Some people proudly proclaim that THEY do NOT make New Year’s Resolutions. The more honest admit to setting self improvement goals when appropriate, in disregard to what the calendar may say. Others just let the statement stand, along with the implication that they are perfect, with no need for resolution to improvement.

The other day at work, a lady was asking about New Year’s Resolutions. She said she liked them, because she liked the idea of a new beginning. I, personally, like them, because it makes me feel that I can improve myself and my situation.

This year, I have heard the thought that we should let up on ourselves and not add the pressure of Resolutions to our current COVID anxiety. This is a chance, the thinking goes, to be gentle with ourselves.

How about this for a New Year’s Resolution: I resolve not to judge others for whether they do or do not make a New Year’s Resolution. I will even refrain from judging them for judging me, as they may, for my making and failing to keep mine.

And as others have said, may your Happy New Year outlast your New Year’s Resolutions.

New Year’s with Vincent

I interrupt my New Year’s Eve celebrations to make a blog post. It was easy for my husband, Steven, and I to heed the calls to stay home and not gather for the holiday, because that is what we usually do for New Year’s Eve. Sweat pants, wine, and movies. What more could we ask?

I could ask that my Media Library be more organized, for one thing. We are watching familiar movies, and I know I have pictures of them. Movie pictures add so much to a post like this.

The master at work.

Our first movie was House on Haunted Hill, the original starring Vincent Price, directed by William Castle.  It is one of our perennial favorites.

Me, trying to scroll through all my pictures.

I have some even better pictures of that movie, but it is too difficult to find them.  Perhaps I will make a New Year’s Resolution to find out how to better organize my photos.

We continued with both Price and Castle with The Tingler.

He’s feeding her a line, and she’s got him on a string.

I paused in my making a blog post to watch Carolyn Jones’ scenes in House of Wax, starring Vincent Price but not directed by William Castle.

Now that I am over 200 words, I shall feel free to return to my holiday libations and movie viewing.  Happy New Year, everyone!
