Renwick Likes Bugs

I just returned from the first rehearsal for Donate to Murder, the murder mystery we are putting on as a fundraiser for the Herkimer County Historical Society at the end of this month.  It is going to be a fun show!

Oh swell!  I took a few pictures, but I am having trouble uploading them into this post!  That is so frustrating! And why us the computer underlining “frustrating”?  Oh!  It did not underline it the second time.  What’s that all about?

How easily I am led astray.  I guess that makes this a Non-Sequitur Thursday post.  I have been sporadic at making blog posts lately, and I think that is a mistake.  For one reason, I am sorely tempted to bag this post and wait for a better day.  We all know that better writing days are elusive at best.  We must make our own good writing days!  Alas, I fear I have failed at making one today.

Where was I?  I just tried once again to download the photo, but no luck.  Maybe I could just plug the show and leave it at that.

Donate to Murder will be presented at the Travel Lodge in Little Falls on Friday, March 27.  Tickets are $30.00 and include a delicious pot roast and chicken parmesan dinner.  For more information contact the historical society at 315-866-6413.

PS  I think my computer has lost internet connection, so I can’t even publish this.  I can only hope it is saved!

PPS  I had to restart my Tablet, and the wwords are all here!  Resisting the urge to try for the picture again, I shall hit Publish, before the internet changes its mind!

I Dig DikinDurt!

We recentlyenjoyed a tasting of DikinDurt Distillery of Herkimer at Valley Wine and Liquor,  also in Herkimer.  We have enjoyed DikinDurt Moonshine on many other occasions and were happy to sip a little more.

Good stuff!

We also had a nice time chatting up Elizabeth Stack, one of the proprietors of  DikinDurt.  We have met her at numerous tastings as well as at the distillery itself.  You know me, I am always ready to taste!

I had to persuade Elizabeth to let me get a picture of her and Steve.

Of particular interest was their bourbon, a non-moonshine choice.  I have only recently started to like bourbon, and I quite enjoyed this one.  Elizabeth gave us some recipes, using the bourbon and the various flavors of moonshine.  Perhaps a moonshine cocktail party is in our future!

Sometimes I like other things than wine.

We purchased the Honey Buzz Moonshine, which is made with local honey.  I am looking forward to making a few hot toddies with that!  We also talked about making another trip to the distillery.  For one reason, I would like to bring my sisters there.  I think they would enjoy the moonshine and the bourbon.

DikinDurt Distillery is located at 115 Smith Rd., Herkimer, NY.  Their tasting room is open 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday.   You can also purchase their delicious product at Valley Wine and Liquor, 326 S. Caroline St., Herkimer.

Tastes Like a Non-Sequitur Thursday to Me!

So I did not make a Wuss-Out Wednesday post and now it is late (for me) on Non-Sequitur Thursday (and my predictive text function seems to have forgotten everything I have ever typed in, what’s that all about?).   I thought I might try a Throw Not Very Far Back Thursday and share a couple of pictures of tastings we recently attended in the area.

He was nice, the cider was nice, we liked it!

This is a picture from a 1911 Hard Cider tasting at Beer Belly Bob’s in Ilion.  Unfortunately,  I cannot find my notes from the tasting.  I know we tried three kinds, liked them all, and purchased one.  We hope to visit 1911 in Lafayette, NY (don’t ask me how I remembered that) sometime in the future.

Here are Elisha and Danielle, pouring Beringer Wine at a tasting at Valley Wine and Liquor in Herkimer.  Danielle is a regular rep at these things, and Elisha was a new trainee.  We were happy to see Danielle again and to meet Elisha.  The wine was pretty good, too.  We bought a bottle of Red Blend Aged in Bourbon Barrels.

Facebook pages usually keep us up to date on local tastings.  I just love to try before I buy.

So I guess I haven’t said much about the tastings or the businesses. I hope nonetheless this will be an acceptable post.  And tomorrow is Lame Post Friday!  Won’t that be nice?

Who Doesn’t Love a Tired Tuesday Post?

OK.  First I had the Stare Blank-minded At A Blank Screen disease.  Then I had the Type It In Backspace It Out disease.  I am, in fact, struggling mightily with myself not to backspace out those two sentences.  I’ve had worse Tired Tuesday posts.  I think.

Now there’s a character!

I thought I would pep things up with a picture.  This is our good friend Tucker,  in a truly brilliant performance in Donate to Murder, the mystery we are reviving for a fundraiser for the Herkimer County Historical Society next month.  Earlier today I was going over the script and making a few changes. I love writing.  I can never understand why I don’t do more of it.  What the hell, me?

I certainly hope I can find that hat with all the feathers.  Finishing the re-polish of Donate is not the only writerly chore I have to  concern myself with. However, I do not care to write about everything I Am Going To Write.  Then again, it would make a change from writing about How I Can’t Write Anything.  Oh dear.

Bennie the Bootlegger was not actually shaped like that.

Well, maybe one more preview of coming attractions.  LiFT is reviving Rubbed Out At Ruby’s for a fundraiser for RCIL in April.  Who doesn’t love a 1920’s murder mystery?

Nothing Monstrous About Coffee

I thought of that headline when I was pouring my coffee.  It is early Tuesday morning. Yes, once again I fell short of my self-imposed goal of being a daily blogger.  These things happen.  Anyways, a little late, here is my Monstrous Monday post.  Only I do not know how well I will do with monster pics.

I have actually never put garlic in my coffee.

I add a little local flair to my post by showing my Mohawk Valley Garlic and Herb Festival coffee mug.  Steven and I have an extensive coffee mug collection, and we try to use them all.

Next I thought of taking a selfie.  That would be truly monstrous. I am not adept at taking selfies, although a couple of ussies I have taken with Steven have been successful.  He is still in bed and I daresay would object strenuously to having his picture taken pre-shower.

EEEEEEEEEEEE!

That took a while.  I had to get stern with myself.  I said, “You’re a middle-aged lady with turkey neck, and there’s no getting around it.”   Now I’ll look for a picture of a movie monster, so we can compare/contrast.

I bet he’s had coffee!

 

Here is a cheerful monster for my early morning blues.  And now I am over 200 words.  Happy late Monday, and I hope to see you later, when I may or may not make a Tired Tuesday post.

Snapped or Cinema, Happy Sunday!

I think I can manage a Sunday Cinema post.  Can I manage to find proper illustrations?  That is another question altogether and one that may lead to a Wriet to Forehead Sunday post.

Who doesn’t love Snapped on a Sunday?

Of course the first thing we tuned into was Snapped.  We looked at an episode or two between movies as well,.  However, our primary concern today was movies.

A pretty unsavory pair.

At last I come across a picture from Double Indemnity, our second feature.  I cannot for the life of me find anything from Being Julia, the first movie we watched. How annoying!  I know I had some picture from it in  my Media Library!  That is what I get for posting on the Tablet.  On the laptop I could have downloaded a new picture.  Can my readers forgive me for being so low tech?  I can only hope so.

No wonder some people have trouble sleeping at night!

Being unsuccessful at finding a photo from Being Julia,  I share a picture from a movie I would like to watch next: The Tingler with Vincent Price.  Steven is falling asleep on the live seat, so perhaps I can put in whatever movie I like next.  Then again, why would Steven not like to watch  William Castle classic?  We shall see.  Happy Sunday,  everyone!

We Love Meeples!

For my late (judge me if you are so inclined) Saturday post, I would like to give a brief shout-out to the place LiFTers have been meeting to discuss summer Skakespeare: Meeples Mug House in Little Falls, NY.

LiFT, in case you did not know, is Little Falls Theatre Company.  For five years they brought Shakespeare to the Mohawk Valley but have not done so for the last two.  They have done a few other things along the way: Cheese Plays for the Little Falls Cheese Festival, a re-staging of the wonderful readers theatre play Strike Story by Angela Harris, as well as a couple of murder mysteries.  But now we want the Bard!

However, my current purpose is not to talk about plays but about the awesome board game cafe that is Meeples.  We love the place, and proprietor Matt Powers has been very generous about letting us meet there.

I like to get there well before our meeting and have a sandwich.  Yesterday I got a Nacho Turn Yet panini.  Yum!  It came with veggie chips, which were delicious, and I had Utica Roasting coffee as well.

Steven loves coffee.

We like to sit at the bar and chat up Matt.  Then for the meeting we retreated to the back room, where we could gather in a circle.

This is actually from our first brainstorming session, but you can see how comfy we are.

I think next time I am at Meeples,  I am going to get a mug cake, even if it does set me back a bit in pursuing my weight loss goals.  They have different flavors and a variety of toppings to choose from.

I must also get there when I do not have a meeting so I can play a game or two.  I have a few family members I feel sure would like to join me.  I wonder if Meeples has Clue.

Fairly Lame, Fairly Dreadful Post

I actually have a few subjects worthy of a real blog post.  I can only hope I write about them in the future,  because today is Lame Post Friday.

I have had a fairly dreadful week.  I say “fairly,”  because I believe it was not that horrible, but my distorted perceptions designated it as such.  I do not feel up to iterating the happenings of the week and discussing their possible designations. Quite frankly, I do not feel up to any sort of a blog post.

I got home from work and immediately sat down to relax myself.  Perhaps I drank a glass or two of wine.   If so, who could judge me?  Oh, I suppose you possibly could (you know who you are).  I continued to have an enjoyable Friday evening.  Again, who could judge me?

I have a busy weekend to look forward to.  The biggest event is tne third iteration on Brainstorming the Bard at Meeples Mug House in Little Falls, tomorrow at three. I wonder how well that will go.  Full disclosure: I have not done nearly enough thinking about this subject.

Can only hope that others have. If not, no doubt we will carry on.

In the meantime, have I the wherewithal to finish this post?  I fear not.  I can only hope to rescue the post with an excellent headline.  Will I succeed?  The uncertainty adds interest to my Friday.

And yet I feel I have not succeeded.  Alas.

Summer Shakespeare? Bring Your Brain!

OK, I have just now been trying to open with the logo for LiFT’s Summer Shakepeare in Little Falls, and WordPress apparently wants me to write something first.  Will it now let me continue the post after sharing the logo?  Ah, the computer tribulations I suffer!

 

Then I typed in a whole paragraph which I mysteriously deleted.  It wasn’t any great shakes as prose anyways.  The point is that our next session of Brainstorming the Bard is this Saturday, Feb. 22 at 3 p.m. at Meeples Mug House in Little Falls, NY.  We intend to discuss actual scenes we want to present, so participants are asked to bring in scenes, either photocopied or a book with a bookmark.  I guess some people have these things on their devices, too, but I am not adept at such things.

At our last session we talked about doing perhaps three or four scenes, coming to a total of 45 minutes performance.  We thought comedy would be more accessible to the audience, although personally I can think of a couple of scenes from tragedies that might be doable.  What I would really like is for a few people to step forward and say, “I would like to direct this scene.”  But perhaps I ask too much.

In any case, I hope some local theatre people join us this Saturday.  Bring a scene or just bring your brain!

Um, this is not a scene from Shakespeare, but I thought another picture would pep things up.  I think it is relevant, because in Shakespeare’s time, young boys played the girl parts.  Now we often have women playing men’s parts.  Gender blind casting!

I Would Never Whine About a Sausage Roll!

Steven suggested that instead of whining about how tired I am (he was too nice to use the word “whining,” but I really do whine), I write a little more about Napoli’s Italian Bakery and Deli, where we went on Sunday.

Regular readers may recall I used this picture on Sunday’s post.

I wanted something to write about for Mohawk Valley Living magazine, and I knew there was a bakery on Culver Avenue in Utica, so off we went. It was quite easy to find.

All kinds of good eats!

We did not order anything from the deli case but got a sausage and pepper roll, which was on the counter.  Yum!  For more immediate consumption,  we chose a couple of treats from another case.

Steven got an eclair while I chose a chocolate cannoli.

We ate our sweet treats right away.  Then I walked around taking a few pictures.  I wrote and submitted an article about Napoli’s to MVL.  I hope they print it!

In any case,  I’m sure Steven and I will return to Napoli’s, and I will write more blog posts about them.
