Food, Music, and STEVE!

Yesterday, Steven got sprung from the pen, and by pen, I mean nursing home. In celebration, and since it was Wednesday, we went to Fratello’s Pizzeria in Frankfort to enjoy food and music.

We got there before the music actually started. I introduced Steve to my favorite bartender, Toni. We pored over the menus, pondering.

This is actually a picture from a different visit, but she is still this cute.

I finally decided on a burger, which was a recent addition to the Fratello’s menu. Yum! Steven opted for a shrimp basket.

Yummy! The food was good, too.

Music was by Matt Migliore. We had not heard him before. We enjoyed him very much.

I don’t know who the guy in yellow was.

I did not make notes on what songs he played. Steven especially enjoyed a Beatles tune. We danced our way out to Billy Joel’s “My Life.” Matt waved us a friendly good-bye.

Nice!

We enjoyed our food and the music, and I was delighted to introduce Steve to my Wednesday night thing.

Going Nowhere on Tired Tuesday

Tired Tuesday follows Monstrous Monday, we all know that. At least, we know it now. I am trying to get back to posting daily, even it it means a lot of foolish, rambling posts. One does what one can.

In my defense, the hot, humid weather weighs me down. I feel I am a large, heavy piece of clothing saturated with warm water. Kind of like my laundry when my washing machine died before going through the spin cycle, only I wash in cold water. I do enjoy a good comparison. Earlier today, I told myself that my face will be coated in sweat for the foreseeable future. Sometimes it is easier to live with something when you acknowledge that it is, instead of wishing it was not, if that makes any sense.

In addition to the weather, I am coping with overtime at work. YES, I am grateful to have a job and grateful for time-and-a-half, so just don’t start with the “Just be happy that” crap. I want to be a lady of leisure! Is that too much to ask? Apparently so.

Where was I going with this? Nowhere, I guess. As always, I will try for a better blog post tomorrow. It will be Wednesday, my day for local music at Fratello’s. I missed last week. This may be something to look forward to. As always, I hope you’ll stay tuned.

Burning Questions on Monstrous Monday

Am I no longer a daily blogger or am I just going through a bad patch? If I return to posting daily will I truly be a daily blogger, considering the number of missed posts? Will I ever return to making a blog post daily? These are the burning questions that plague me on this Monstrous Monday.

I’m not loving the rest of the days either right now.

There is no point in iterating the various points of stress currently monsterizing my life (I’ll be damned: iterating and monsterizing are both words, according to autocorrect. I thought iterating was like a lost positive: you know, you can reiterate something, but nobody ever iterates anything. Monsterizing, I thought I just made up) (but I digress).

Nosferatu stands up to his problems.

I throw in Nosferatu just because he is my favorite. You may have guessed by now (if anybody is still reading) that I got nuthin’. In my defense, I finished and emailed my article to Mohawk Valley Living magazine. In my detriment, I don’t know if it was a very good article. Perhaps I am not the best judge of these things.

Totally me.

I close with a kind of a self portrait. OK, it’s not really me, but it is how I often feel lately. I believe I am not alone.

What I am is over 200 words. I call that a blog post. Can I do it again tomorrow? Can I make a better post? More burning questions to ponder.

Run Interrupted

I don’t feel like making a Lame Post Friday post today, because I work on Saturday (YES, I am grateful to have a job and for the overtime! Sheesh!). I went running today, since I will be unable to run tomorrow morning, so I thought, maybe a Running Commentary Post?

It would be more accurate to say I tried to go running. Things seemed to be going pretty well at first, then about five and a half minutes into the run (I did not look at my Garmin at the exact minute), I wiped out.

One minute I was running along the sidewalk, paying attention to where I was going, so I thought. Then I was down. It is kind of weird. I seem to experience these falls in stages. There is an instance where I feel I might fall (with barely time to feel I could somehow prevent it), then I know I am unavoidably going to fall, then before I even internalize the knowledge, I am down and saying, “Stupid, stupid, stupid!”

It hurt. Sometimes I can get back up and right back to running. Today I could not. I tried a couple of times. Then I gave it up and trudged, blood trickling down my leg in a couple of squiggly streams, several blocks home.

I stopped at a neighbor’s house for a little sympathy. He is a fellow runner and was setting up for a garage sale (tomorrow is Village Wide in Herkimer, N.Y.). He offered some first aid, which I declined (I was only a few doors from home), and comforted me with the fact that if you are going to run, sooner or later you will probably fall. I always feel better after I share my injuries.

And now I have shared my injury with my nice blog readers (I am taking it for granted you are all nice). I guess since I was limping after the fall, we could still call it Lame Post Friday.

Thank You, Mona’s!

Thank God for Mona’s Diner! Last Saturday there was no food in my house. Oh, OK, I still had a dozen eggs. I could have made scrambled eggs or even an omelet (full disclosure: I had a little ham and cheese, too).

BUT my kitchen sink was clogged. It had happened the night before, when I was about half way through the dishes (yes, there were a lot of them for just me, don’t judge). I thought I had solved the problem with Liquid Plumber, a small plunger, and time. When I went to finish doing the dishes Saturday morning, I found I had done no such thing. I tried by best to finish the dishes anyways, with questionable success (don’t worry: I’ll rewash the questionable ones before I use them; I’m lazy, I’m not an animal).

I was disinclined to dirty more dishes. In fact, I was quite discouraged to find I had missed a glass (the previous afternoon’s iced coffee, which I had brought upstairs with me when I went to shower and change before going to visit Steven at the nursing home).

All this by long way of explaining why I treated myself to breakfast at Mona’s Diner in Mohawk, NY. The waitress carried a mug and the pot of coffee over to my table when I arrived, to save time when she asked would I like coffee. Oh yes! Even if I did have some earlier. Coffee is almost always welcome.

I ordered a wrap sandwich with bacon, egg and cheese. It was large and yummy! I felt well able to face the rest of my day.

Mona’s is located at 32 E. Main St., Mohawk, NY. You can follow her on Facebook for pictures of all the good food she has to offer.

More Music, Please!

I did not do my favorite Wednesday thing of going to Fratello’s Pizzeria in Frankfort for food and music, but that is OK, because I never made a blog post about last Wednesday, when I heard Max Scialdone. I shall now attempt to remedy the omission.

Full disclosure: one reason I wanted to eat out was so I could have leftovers for my lunch on Thursday and possibly Friday. Additionally, I needed a treat. I ordered a glass of Chardonnay and perused the menu. When I chose the grilled chicken salad, my favorite bartender, Toni, suggested I add cucumbers. Genius!

I loved the colored lights.

When Max Scialdone started to play, he said how happy he was to be back “at the Frat House.” Why didn’t I think of calling it that? A number of his fans were in the house. We all greatly enjoyed the tunes.

He had t-shirts for sale.

The music and food were just the treats I needed, and I ended up with enough leftover salad for both Thursday and Friday’s lunches.

Fratello’s Pizzeria is located at 158 E. Main St., Frankfort, NY, phone number 315-894-8484. They are open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday, 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday. You can follow their Facebook page to find out when you can enjoy some great local music.

Is This a Post?

Late posts have been a thing for a while. I guess missed posts are now a thing, too. I don’t know yet if this will count as a late Tuesday Post or lame Wednesday post. I don’t suppose it matters much.

It is no secret that I am under stress and not handling it very well. I have no excuses, and it is embarrassing for me. But let us not go on about my petty problems.

I guess all I am doing right now is typing in a few words to let readers (if any) know I still exist in the blogosphere. I close with a preview of coming attractions.

Good Music, good food.

I realized I have yet to write about last Wednesday, when I went to Fratello’s Pizzeria in Frankfort. I enjoyed good food and good music by Max Scialdone.

In the meantime, please excuse Mohawk Valley Girl etc., etc. I hope to get back to daily blogging soon.

A Reason to Swoon?

Have I the mental and physical wherewithal to make a Wrist to Forehead Sunday Post? The question is not rhetorical. I think I am getting arthritis in my knuckles. I was having a very painful time trying to write in the TV Journal earlier. Suddenly stylus picking is a more attractive option. What a depressing thought! No more hand writing? No more ten-finger typing? SAY IT AIN’T SO!!!

The beauty part is, now it seems I have a really good reason to swoon, posed dramatically with the back of one wrist against my forehead. I would love to insert a photo here but cannot find one.

Earlier today I went on a long run. It tired me out too much to feel like making a Running Commentary Post. I started to watch movies, hoping for a Sunday Cinema Post. However, I HATED the first movie I chose so much I got discouraged. I should have turned it off twenty minutes into it, as I was strongly tempted to do, but I was curious as to when it would get exciting and how it would end (very late in the picture and badly).

So here I sit without much to say. Best thing to do in these cases is to keep it sort. I hope to see you all again on Monday.

Fun Day, Scattered Post

I pause in my Saturday evening television viewing to make a Scattered Saturday Post. I have had a fun day, with a few problems along the way. But let us not dwell on the latter but concentrate on the former.

In an unusual development, I did not go for a run. I wanted to recruit my energies, because I had a date with family members at Gold Rush Adventure Golf in Westmoreland, NY. I thought I might get a few household chores accomplished first.

Long story short (as if I ever do THAT!), I did not. But I had a yummy breakfast at Mona’s Diner in Mohawk.

We had a great time at the mini golf place. I took a lot of pictures, which I hope to share later. Then we went to North Star Orchards, just down the road. I took fewer photos there.

Pretty!

The above is the one shot I got. However, I did point out that I was more likely to purchase a bouquet from House’s Flower Farm in Little Falls. We also looked at a lot of beautiful flowers, shrubs and trees which you could plant in your yard. I really must up my home gardening game.

I hope to make better blog posts later about the fun parts of my day. For now, this will have to do. Happy Saturday, everyone!

Just to close with a happy photo.

The Name of the Lame

I thought I would attempt a Lame Post Friday post. I am feeling fairly lame today. For most of the day, my legs had that macaroni feeling. My brain, of course, is almost always of questionable usefulness. But one must persevere.

I thought the blog post I wrote this morning was not too bad. Or do I flatter myself? It doesn’t matter if I do. Flattery isn’t the worst thing you can do. Where was I going with this?

On Lame Post Friday I traditionally indulge in random observations and half-baked philosophy. I have actually observed very little today. I drove up through Ilion Gorge to work this morning, but I was listening to music and daydreaming. I paid enough attention to stay on the road, that’s all. I had an interesting drive through quite heavy rain, returning home from visiting my husband Steven at the nursing home.

I mentioned that my husband is currently in a nursing home, didn’t I? It is supposed to be merely a temporary stay. It would be a HIPAA violation to say more (have I the correct acronym?).

Well, this post certainly lives up to its name of Lame (YES, I mean “its” not “it’s”. “Its” is like “his” or “hers”; “it’s” only properly means “it is”). You’ll have that, at least with me in my blog. It matters not. I am over 200 words. I hope you will all tune in tomorrow, when I once again try for a better blog post.
