It Is Summer, Isn’t It?

I went for a run this morning, going as soon as I got out of bed in hopes of beating the heat and humidity.  I was successful, eventually running two miles in hopes of making a Two-Mile Tuesday blog post.  In that I was less than successful, as I sit here late (for me) Tuesday night and no blog post done yet.

In my defense, I was writing an article for Sentinel Media then trying to learn my lines for a play I am in (Preview of Coming Attractions).  I managed to go to the grocery store, where once again  I did not purchase enough food. On the brighter side, I refrained from purchasing cookies or ice cream (believe me,  I was tempted!), making my weight loss goals slightly more attainable.

She’s set to enjoy the summer heat!

I was looking for a picture of the Wicked Witch of the West saying, “I’m ME-E-ELTING!” but decided to share a more cheerful shot instead.  This is my skeleton Bonita with her friend Bonaparte.  My late, dearly missed husband, Steven, had dressed her for summer.  He purposely let the tag show on the headband, going for a Minnie Pearl kind of thing (look it up or ask somebody old if you don’t know).

I guess this is shaping up to be a Tired Tuesday post.  I shall blame it on the heat and humidity, and as always, try for a better post tomorrow.

I Need Halloween Monsters!

Hello and welcome to another late Monstrous Monday post.  It is the season for monsters, after all.  I have not been in a particular Halloweeny mood recently, which is too bad, because it is my favorite season.  Yesterday I was struck with yet another bout of Don’t Wanna Do Nuthin’.  I kept bestirring myself to At Least Do One Thing, with varying degrees of success.  Here is the result of one fairly successful foray:

My mantle.

I was happy to find the lights to hang.  They were in a bag on the knob of the door to my attic, where they have been since I took them down from the porch, an embarrassingly long time after Halloween (then again, they only went up Halloween Day; feel free to judge me).  I don’t know if you can see Santa Claus in the background.  He stays there all year round.  I always think he looks like he is saying, “Good grief!”  In this case it is probably because he is wondering why it took me till nearly halfway through the month to get a single Halloween decoration up (although in general, I think it is because that long piece of paper he is holding is the Naughty List).

The well dressed skeleton.

I looked for a picture of the mantle decorated by my late, dearly missed husband Steve but could not find one.  He had a flair for decorating.  Here is the Halloween outfit he put together for Bonita, our skeleton.  She has been embracing nudity lately, but perhaps I will help her into some seasonal duds before too long.  Bonaparte, her small, admiring friend, you may have noticed on the mantle, sitting in a mug from Adirondack Railroad.  I think he is irresistibly cute.

The Ghost of Christmas Past? or Present?

I close with another decoration of my own:  our other Santa Claus dressed as a ghost.  I purchased that Santa the first year we lived in this house, 2005, walking home from the store with him tucked under my arm and feeling rather pleased with myself.  My mother gave us the other Santa one Christmas, having purchased him at an antique store in Pennsylvania when she was visiting my sister Vicki.

I guess this post has not been particularly monstrous, unless you dislike reading about personal reminiscences and the other drivel that comes out of my typing fingers.  Sometimes one can only type what comes out.  However, if you’ll stay tuned, I hope to have other Mohawk Valley Adventures later this week.

It’s Never Too Lame!

Once again I make my Lame Post Friday blog post on Saturday morning.  I thought about making it last night, but bed seemed like such a good place to be.  It’s been a difficult week, although it has had its good points.  Nothing is all good or all bad, I hope.  At least, I hope nothing is all bad.  All good, I would like to try and see.  There is some half-baked philosophy for you.  We are used to finding the silver lining in bad times, or at least it is a good idea to do so.  Do we ever look for the fly in the ointment in good times?  Are there any other hoary expressions I can throw in?  Really, me, “silver lining”?  “fly in the ointment”?  Have some more coffee.

Ah ha ha! Coffee can be evil!

I throw in a random picture while I go get another cup of coffee.  I do not want to speculate on whether coffee is or can be, in fact, evil.  I put the caption because I believe that coffee mug looks malevolent.

Since this is my second cup of coffee,  one might think I had just rolled out of bed, but that is not the case.  I got up prior to six and went for a run.  The problem with running before coffee is that sometimes I forget to make coffee.  I had my recovery beverage of chocolate milk (it’s science!), made myself an egg sammich for breakfast…  oh yes, coffee. Ahhh… coffee.

I got rained on during my run, off and on.  Now it seems mostly on, so I am sorry about the local events going on today, for example, Little Falls Pride 2024 and Dolgeville Violet Festival. I had been thinking of running the Pride Stride 5K in Little Falls.  There used to be a 5K associated with the Violet Festival, too, but I don’t know if there still is.  How uninformed of me.  Anyways, I am not in 5K shape at this time.  I am in shape, though, because round and puffy is still a shape, you know.

I don’t think these two are in 5K shape either.

Here are Bonita and Bonaparte to wish you a happy Saturday.  I will never be as skinny as Bonita.  Puffy little Bonaparte is more my speed (almost literally).  I suppose I am not as cute, although my husband, Steven used to think so.

What Else Is Lame?

I am sitting here at my Chromebook, battling the type-it-in-backspace-it-out disease, hoping to make my Lame Post Friday blog post on Friday.   Quite frankly, I got nuthin’.  You may ask, with ample justification, so what else is new?  I begin to think, perhaps being a daily blogger is not the life for me.  SAY IT AIN’T SO!!!!

They look ready for a fun Friday.

I looked through my Media Library for a picture to pep things up.  Here is Bonita in her summer outfit, accompanied by her little friend Bonaparte.  This is an old picture.  My late, dearly missed husband Steven dressed Bonita in the summer outfit.  The Hawaiian shirt is his, although I often borrowed it.  The flower headband is one of two of mine.  Steve purposely let the tag show, to have a Minnie Pearl thing (if you don’t know what that is, ask your grandparents about HeeHaw).

The other headband.

Now I show you a picture of me in the headband.  That shirt I have on was totally worn out between Steve and me.  So is this a blog post about flowered headbands and summer shirts?  Why not on Lame Post Friday?

Yeah, what they said.

What is wrong with a silly blog post on Lame Post Friday?  I know, I make silly blog posts any day of the week.  Then again, I always say, go with your strengths.

A Bottle of Bones?

I guess I only missed one day posting (just now, not over time), but it feels like two.  I’m in a kind of a time warp, which bodes well for a late Non-Sequitur Thursday Post.  Is it really Friday? I believe it is.  I have not even tried my Chromebook since yesterday morning but am on my Tablet, pecking in one letter at a time with the stylus and making use of the predictive text thingy whenever possible.

I felt that was a long paragraph and wanted to throw in a picture to pep things up (that last phrase courtesy of the predictive text thingy).  I wanted to share pictures of skeletons, because I just read a meme on Facebook about how we all have skeletons in our closets so ought not to talk about other people.  I keep most of my skeletons out of the closet for decorative purposes.

That just made me think about people coming out of the closet, as the saying goes.  Does that mean most skeletons are gay?  Points to ponder.

The above picture, by the way, is Bonita in a summer outfit put together by my late, dearly missed husband, Steven.  Her friend Bonaparte sits on her lap.  Bonaparte is my current Facebook profile picture.

Another summer skeleton, because many of us are longing for weather when we can sit outdoors.  This handsome fellow was at the home of my late, dearly missed friend Phyllis, another woman who scorned to keep her skeletons in the closet.

To make this a true Non-Sequitur Thursday Post, I ought to have a headline with at best an oblique reference to the post itself.  Nothing is coming to me.  However, since I have to change devices to add the headline, I have a little time to think (and here’s an interesting predictive text thingy thing:  it wanted to follow “I have a”  with “bottle of”).

I Rattle, uh I Mean Carry On

Late blog posts continue with my Wuss-out Wednesday Post being pecked in early Thursday morning.   I offer no defense or explanation, and the only thought in my head right now is thank God for coffee!  If it gets rid of my headache, my life will be perfect.

I do like flowers.

I threw in a picture to pep things up.  This is from July 2022.  My yard was no great shakes then, but I had a few blooms.  This year the back yard is rather a disaster and the front yard is only marginally better.  I had such high hopes, but alas did not match actions to dreams.

I haven’t worn that outfit in a while.

Since it is clear that this is going to be one of those posts where I share pictures from my Media Library and rattle on about them, here is one of me at Fratello’s Pizzeria in Frankfort,  NY in July 2021.

I wore that shirt just the other day.

To inject a little silliness, here is my skeleton Bonita with her friend Bonaparte.  My husband, Steve, dressed her in the summer outfit.  He had a flair for such things.

I confess that these days I am coping with a great deal of sadness, with varying degrees of success.  However, I did manage a blog post of over 200 words.  Perhaps I can make Thursday’s blog post on time (although my predictive text thingy does not seem to think it is likely).

Is This Any Way to Make a Blog Post?

Oh dear, it is the Type It In Backspace It Out Disease.  That is no way to make a blog post!  Hmm, that sounds like it could be a title.  Actually I am feeling right now that there is no way I can make a blog post, which is a little silly, because, well, here we are.  I am thinking this going to be a Wuss-out Wednesday Post.

It is still summer, isn’t it?

I threw in a picture to pep things up.  It is our skeleton, Bonita and her friend Bonaparte in summer mode.  We are beginning to get whiffs of fall these days, but it is definitely August.  We will still feel plenty of heat.

Pretty! Alas, they are no more.

Speaking of August,  here is a shot from August 2020.  I hope to up my gardening game in 2023.  Of course, I will be upping it from zero, so it will not be difficult to make some improvement.

My current mood?

From August 2019, I find some cloudy skies.  I love a cloudy, gloomy day.

It’s scary!

I close with a picture from Horror Hotel, because, hey, why not Mid-Week Monsters?

So this is my blog post.  I share pictures and babble on.  Did I mention I am still tired?  Oh, that was some of the stuff I typed in and backspaced out.

Never Mind Monday; How About Monsters?

Mondays are problematic for me. Oh, who am I kidding? Every day is a problem for me.  I’M a problem for me!  However, I am sure regular readers are aware of this.  I shall get on with my Monstrous Monday Post.

Reap away, buddy!

This was a decoration at a Halloween party we attended at the Herkimer VFW last October.  He looks like he is giving a little bow.  In greeting?  Acquiescence? Acknowledgement? There is not enough evidence to draw an accurate conclusion.

I think he is just so cute!

This adorable skeleton was a present to me from my husband, Steve.  I named him Bonaparte.  The mug advertises a murder mystery we put together to benefit the Herkimer County Historical Society.  I need to finish writing one we plan to put on in September (preview of coming attractions).

Mine is definitely not that big.

I finish with a movie monster, The Brain from Planet Arous.  I have not come across this fellow in my media library in a while.  I like to use this picture when I am feeling particularly brain dead, as I often am these days (cue jokes about how I am mostly brain dead most of the time).

I see I have gotten to 200 words. Score! I hope to see you all again on Tired Tuesday.

25-Inch Lame

Can I make my Lame Post Friday post on Friday? I intend to try. But first, can I just point out that my Tablet’s predictive text thingy is very inconsistent? It used to be, when I typed in “Lame,” “Post Friday post” was automatically suggested. Tonight it was not. Then again, “used to be” is a pretty useless thing to say. When somebody else says it, I usually say, “I used to have a 25-inch waistline. Things change!”

Incidentally, it is true that I once had such a small waistline. I do not expect to have one ever again, which will be all right with me. I have other things to worry about.

My waistline was never this small.

I thought I would throw in a picture to pep up the post. This is our skeleton Bonita and her friend Bonaparte. She is dressed n her last year’s summer outfit. She has not dressed for summer yet. Maybe this weekend…

One of my many summer outfits.

I share this picture to show me in the same headband as Bonita’s, not to emphasize my lack of 25-inch waist. I am at Fratello’s Pizzeria in Frankfort, NY, I add in order to give a brief shout-out to a local business.

I see I am over 200 words. Yay! I’m going to call it a blog post and go back to enjoying my Friday.

Two Skeletons and a Glass of Wine

Monday through Friday workers know: sometimes the best you can hope for on a Monday is to Just Get Through It. Workers of other schedules know that feeling applies on other days as well. Oh, I know, I have very little to complain about. Why should I let that stop me? It seems to not slow others down. Never mind, let’s just get on with the blog post.

A handsome couple indeed.

This is our skeleton Bonita with her friend Bonaparte. She is wearing her last summer’s outfit. We have yet to dress her in this summer’s togs (Preview of Coming Attractions), but I am sure she will look equally alluring. At least Bonaparte will look equally as admiring.

He would probably like to meet Bonita.

I took a picture of this handsome fellow last Fourth of July, when my friend Kim and I visited our good friends Phyllis and Jim. Phyllis passed away the following August, and I still feel the shock of grief when I remember she is gone.

Full Disclosure: I already drank the wine.

Having interjected that sad note into my post, I feel free to point out that sometimes, for some of us, a glass of wine is a beautiful thing. I certainly enjoyed many glasses with Phyllis.

So I guess this is my Monstrous Monday Post: a couple of skeletons and a sad note. But I also smile when I remember my friend Phyllis. That makes this a not bad Monday. Once again, I thank you for tuning in.
