Walking into the Weekend Once Again

I’m pretty sure I’ve used that headline before, but perhaps my readers will forgive me.  If not, well that is a silly thing to hold a grudge over, isn’t it?  Oh I know, you’re not mad, only disappointed.  Now I’m getting silly.  I had coffee instead of tea this morning.

Do Not Enter into silliness? Say it ain’t so!

I have been getting out walking almost every day this week, so I thought a brief Pedestrian Post would keep me in the daily blogging habit for another day.  I actually took this picture some days ago.  I was on my way to the Herkimer Elks Lodge.  I joined recently and have met some very nice people.  I hope to participate in some of their projects.  If nothing else, it will make for some good blog posts.

Not as clear as I had hoped.

On another walk, I noticed some bird prints and paused to take a picture.  That extended my walk, because I dropped a glove and did not notice it till I was two or three blocks away and had to go back.

Some guys from the press conference.

Just to show you I have not only been taking walks and hanging out with the Elks, I share a picture from a press conference I covered for Sentinel Media Company.  Regular readers may recall I cover a couple of village and town board meetings for them.  I like to pretend I am an intrepid girl reporter from a 1930s or ’40s movie, although I am really none of the three.

I do not know what the rest of my weekend will bring, but I hope something blogworthy.  In the meantime, I approach 300 words and hope I have been at least mildly entertaining.  I wonder if there is any more coffee…

By the way, I fixed the headline.  It originally read, “Walking into the Weekend,” which I had indeed used before.

Will It Be Spring? Lame Will Tell

What is with this posting every other day, me?  Will I ever get my act together?  For the answers to these and other burning questions, stay tuned. I do not promise to answer them, but you may be able to draw your own conclusions.  In any case, it is Lame Post Friday, this hot tea is not the miracle I was hoping for, and I am sitting ten-finger typing on my Chromebook and thought I could manage at least a silly post before trying to get on with my day.

Random picture to denote passage of time while I make myself a second cup of tea.

We had a couple of days where it got kind of sort of warm.  Yesterday was not one of them, as I learned after I had inadvisedly left the house without hat or gloves.  It was the bitter wind.  I guess that makes the picture a little less random, because that is what I felt like walking, although of course not as skinny.  Perhaps after a few weeks on the South Beach Diet.

Preview of Coming Attractions?

Searching for another picture to pep things up, I came across this one of me in the garden at Raindrops on Roses Bed and Breakfast in Herkimer, NY.  I have been to their wine tasting room a few times and enjoyed it very much.  I would like to take some wine loving family and friends there sometime this spring or summer.  It is easy walking distance from my house.  We could walk there, taste a few wines, walk back to my house, then sit out on my deck drinking more wine, which I will provide.  Ah, more motivation to get my house clean!

But for right now…

Unfortunately, quite a bit of snow has to melt before I start thinking about gardens and deck parties.  In fact, there is more snow outside than is shown in this picture, but I did not feel like scrolling through my Media Library all morning.

I see I have rattled on for over 300 words.  I will try for a more Mohawk Valley related post later today, striving once again to become a daily blogger.  As always, I hope you will stay tuned.

I Oversleep, But I Post

I overslept, my coffeemaker is taking a long time to brew, and my eyes have that filmy thing going on which blinking only helps temporarily.  Sounds like a good basis for a late Tired Tuesday post.

I neglected once again to take a picture of last night’s rehearsal for a proper Post-Rehearsal Post.  It was a disappointing rehearsal, because two cast members were absent.  They both had good reasons, and the three of us that were there read through the script twice.  We meet again tomorrow (Thursday) when I fear I will not be present.  Oh dear.

Random picture to denote passage of time while I get coffee.

I am in fact using the same coffee cup as yesterday but feel it is excessive to use the same picture two days in a row (the eye film thing almost made me miss that I had at first typed “feet” for “feel”).  I will confess that I am not feeling well and have not felt well all week.  Nothing serious, I’m sure, just severe allergy symptoms getting me down, I think.  I feel a little bad whining about it. Not bad enough not to whine, apparently.

Fun picture to distract from my whining.

So we have another placeholder post.  Why is this better than no post at all?  Discuss amongst yourselves.

Off a Long Pier

Yes, I have missed an entire week of blog posts.  In my defense, I have no defense.  Right now I am fighting yesterday’s migraine (these things rarely last more than a day, so I feel quite ill-used) and wondering if neglecting my morning’s walk to make a blog post is really the right thing to do.  My fingers, happily dancing across the keyboard, say it is.  That voice in my head that continually badgers me probably says not, but I can’t really hear it this morning.

A few days ago I was feeling less than adequate but wanted to take a walk.  It was the weekend so a long walk was eligible.  I said to myself, “Take a long walk.”  And a voice in my head said, “Off a short pier.”  The voice did not have a mean or snarky tone, though.  It was kind of like Drew Barrymore at the beginning of E.T., when she was repeating what her older brother said, “A deformed kid.”  A quiet, cute little voice.  Remember little Drew Barrymore in E.T.?  Another Barrymore to love (regular readers know I adore Lionel Barrymore and am quite the fan of John and Ethel).

I love that guy!

Here is Lionel Barrymore in Devil Doll.  I don’t have a picture of any of the other Barrymores.

But here is a Freudian typo I almost made:  Marrybore instead of Barrymore.  Like you were going to marry somebody boring.  I may use that in a murder mystery sometime.  I often make up silly names, like Jeribilt for a set designer (just a hint of my upcoming murder mystery).

I see I am over 250 words.  Score!  I think I will bill this as a Non-Sequitur Thursday and hope it is the beginning of a new era of daily blogging for your host, Mohawk Valley Girl.

PS.  I was inspired to continue the blog by a comment on a previous post.  I have the best readers!

And I still have time for a short walk.

I Wine, I Wuss, I Make a Wednesday Blog Post

So there I was, debating between having a Wuss-out Wednesday or a Waste Not Want Wednesday.  Then I said, oh just make one of the posts you have been putting off making. So I started to do that, then realized I did not have all the relevant information in my head.  I can’t possibly go looking for the right notebook now.  So how about a Preview of Coming Attractions, using a couple of the pictures I hope to use when I finally write those elusive “real posts.”

Who me? Drink wine?

This is me at the Raindrops on Roses Bed and Breakfast in Herkimer, NY, enjoying a flight of wine from their Wine Tasting Room. I sat in their lovely garden and took a picture of my hand and a glass for Facebook posting purposes.  The bracelet, one of my favorites, I got from One Of A Kind Designs Handcrafted Jewelry by Debora Bruce (OOAK).  You can find OOAK on Facebook, and if you like jewelry, I recommend you do.   So now at least I gave shout-outs to two local businesses.

One of my favorite spots!

Here is a picture of the Eckler Building and Suiter House, where the Herkimer County Historical Society resides.  I took this picture for another Post which is not easily condensed into a few words.  However, these buildings are also important in the murder mystery I am currently writing and hope to start rehearsing soon.  It will benefit the historical society and is to be presented at the Herkimer Elks Lodge on Saturday, Oct. 12.

Ah, I see I have gotten over 250 words.  Regular readers (if I still have any) know I consider that respectable.  I thank you for bearing with me as I struggle with my blog and other problems.

I’m a Monstrously Bad Blogger

I attempt once again to make a blog post today and then one tomorrow etc.  I do not, unfortunately, attempt to make a blog post about one of those Mohawk Valley adventures I keep promising to report on.  I guess I’m going to play the widow card again.  I am having a hard time getting my act together, but I try every day to do a little something.  Sometimes that something is just to get through the day.  I hope to up my game.

An oldie but a goodie.

I was thinking about this meme today, because I wore a shirt that I usually wear on Friday.  I was, of course, aware all day that it was not Friday.  I was only happy that it was also not Monday. One must count one’s blessings, after all.

“But… you said it wasn’t Monday!”

Having missed Monstrous Monday (as well as Saturday and Sunday), I thought to share a couple more monster pictures.  Of course I include my favorite, Nosferatu from the eponymous 1922 silent movie. I think he looks a little bit surprised in this shot.

See? I’m not the only one.

Jumping around, I found this profound caption with Elsa Lanchester as The Bride of Frankenstein.  It is true I have many good intentions:  to blog every day about the Mohawk Valley, to clean my house, to write a novel, to get my act together.  Will I fulfill any of these intentions?  A little uncertainty adds interest to my week.

An Apologetic Post

I guess I have some work to do to make it back to being a daily blogger.  Once again, as I have often done with my running, I begin again.  Perhaps that was a bad comparison, because I have not been running in, oh dear, I think it has been months.  Of course I am too lazy to pull up my Running Journal and look.  And by “pull up my Running Journal,” I mean lean off the couch, to the danger of the Chromebook balanced on my legs, and paw through the mess under my coffee table.  It is there somewhere. I need to update it on walks I have taken since (oh dear) June.

Me being lazy.

I threw in a picture to pep things up.  This is my legs’ approximate position, but I am wearing slippers with no socks.  It is early Friday morning, and I last posted Sunday evening.  For that I apologize.  As it happens, perhaps I should have swooned for real and not just metaphorically.  The week has not been terrible, but my state of  mind has been.  I quite frankly do not know what is wrong with me.  I suppose a number of others have wondered that for years (you know who you are).  However, I have made it to work every day and tried to keep a smile on my face and a song in my heart.  Unfortunately, the song was usually The Volga Boatman.

Bloom where you are planted!

I add a cheerful picture to counteract the whining.  This is a photo from a previous year, but I believe my Rose of Sharon is currently blooming.  I spared it a glance while doing yard work yesterday (see, I have accomplished a few things), but I was too absorbed in gathering fallen branches and sticks to pay much attention.  We had a storm earlier this week.  Not a tornado, as Rome, NY had.  My parents live in Rome but, thankfully, suffered no damage, by the way.

I see I have babbled on for over 300 words. I hope to get back to posting on a daily basis, and of course I hope you will stay tuned.

I Ask Myself…

Every other day blogger?  I guess that is what I am for now.  And here I am Friday morning, ten finger typing on my Chromebook, which I still cannot navigate handily but is becoming more familiar. I sip Irish Breakfast Tea and ponder my day.  Will I do anything blogworthy?  Perhaps.  I had a rather blogworthy Wednesday, but did I write about it?  Um, no. Once again I ask, what the hell, me?

I like old buildings against a grey sky.

I throw in a random picture to pep things up.h  I am going to call this my Lame Post Friday post, so the pressure is off.  This was taken during a walk on Main Street in Herkimer, NY, the former Christ Episcopal Church and Herkimer County Courthouse.  The latter is part of Herkimer’s Historic Four Corners, which regular readers know I love to walk or run by.  I walked by them the other day but did not make a Pedestrian Post mentioning it.  See, I have all kinds of things I could write blog posts about, I just don’t.  What’s that all about?

Do Not Enter my brain; it could get scary.

Another landmark I passed on Wednesday’s walk.  I do love to defy a Do Not Enter sign.  Oh, don’t worry; I never do it in my car.  Sheesh!

Will I see any of these any time soon?

I close with a bit of hope for spring.  I’m afraid my crocuses will have a hard time showing up this year, because dead leaves from last fall lie thickly on my lawn.  Once again I neglected to put down more crocus bulbs, as I have intended to do every year since I moved in (2005).  That is, I put some down in 2005 but have never done so again.  I am not even going to ask myself why not.

However, this bit of nonsense is now over 300 words, so I say, good enough for Lame Post Friday. I adjourn for another cup of tea.

My Blogging Aspirations Continue

Here is one problem I have with going back to being a daily blogger:  lately I do not do enough blog-worthy things.  When I occasionally do something, I neglect to blog about it.  For example, last Wednesday I went to Fratello’s Pizzeria in Frankfort, NY with my friend Kathy and enjoyed the music of Max Scialdone along with some good food.  I not only did not write a blog post about it, I did not take any pictures for future blogging purposes.  I did not even take the usual picture with my phone which I immediately post on Facebook and invite others to come out.

Christmas decorations were still up.

I looked in my Media Library for a picture of Max Scialdone but was unsuccessful.  However, I was able to find this picture of Fratello’s.  Those same nutcrackers were there last Wednesday. I will just mention that I am still learning how to navigate my Media Library on this Chromebook.  It is quite a learning curve for me.  But what a joy to ten-finger type while lounged on my couch.

Frankentree is bigger these days.

This is a shot from 2018.  I wanted one of snow, because winter has returned to the Mohawk Valley with a winter storm (I guess; I don’t know from meteorological designations) yesterday evening.  I will need to do some shoveling today.  I hope I can find my shovel.  I wonder how interesting I can make a blog post about my old creaky body trying to clear my driveway and sidewalk.  I imagine it will be at least as interesting as me whining about how I am not blogging and have little to blog about anyways.  As always, I hope you will stay tuned.

Did You Ever See a Fat Vampire?

I had a wild thought yesterday that I was going to make another blog post in the evening, but that did not happen.  This morning I have reason to be grateful to my slow dining-room-table-table-top, because while I waited for things to load, my coffee maker had time to brew this morning’s cups.  I was going to put “this morning’s pot” but did not want to confuse things.  It’s legal in New York State (where I am) by the way.

As you may guess, this post is just going to be me babbling on for 200 words or so.  Regular readers (if I still have any) may recall that I reserve the right to make these foolish posts, especially if I am posting every day, which I hope to continue to do.  Additionally, it has been a long time (too lazy to go back and be exact) since I have done a Monstrous Post, and I miss my monsters!  For another reason, the pictures will pep the post up.

See? She’s happy the blog is back.

Here is a nice vampire to brighten our morning, of the Hammer Horror variety.  I’m not sure which film this picture is from, or even if it is a still or a publicity shot.  It appears her pinky ring is a little big for her.  I hope she doesn’t lose it.  I lost a pinky ring once after losing a considerable amount of weight.  I would just imagine the liquid diet of the vampires would have a similar slimming effect.  Think about it, did you ever see a fat vampire?  I just now thought about it.

By the way, there is nothing wrong with weighing whatever you happen to weigh.  I do not believe in fat shaming, and any remarks about fat vampires are not in any way meant to do so.

What’s he looking so annoyed about?

This, of course, is who many believe is the quintessential vampire, Bela Lugosi as Count Dracula.  Lugosi had many other delicious horror roles.  I loves me some Bela.

I always think he looks startled here.

I can’t close without including my favorite, Nosferatu, from the 1922 silent movie of the same name.  He is fine, yes.

I see I am over 350 words.  I say very respectable for a foolish post.  Now I have two in a row. Let’s see if I can keep this good habit up!
