Heelpath and End Zone

He’s a handsome fellow.

On a recent Saturday afternoon, Steven and I hit a couple of local watering holes.  We started at Heelpath Brewing Company at the Frankfort Marina.  I keep thinking I will do a pint or a flight of draft beer, seeing as it is a brewery, after all.  Then I order Rustic Ridge Winery Untamed Red, because yum.  Steven got Untamed White.

“What shall we drink to?”  I asked.

“How about that elf?”  Steven suggested.

“That’s a troll,” I said.  We drank to it, and I took a picture of it.

As you can see, the Christmas decorations were still up.

After enjoying a glass or two of wine as well as some good conversation with the bartender and other patrons, Steven and I drove back to Herkimer.  We still felt like being out and about so stopped at the End Zone Pub and Grub.

We had a great conversation about wine with the bartender.  Of course we sipped a little wine while we talked. I thought I had made a note of the bartenders name, but I can’t remember which notebook I had at the time.  Before we left we took a picture of two nice young ladies we were also chatting with.

I don’t remember their names either.

Incidentally, this is the post I started to write five days ago and just could not finish.  I don’t know that the final version was worth waiting for, but at least the picture of the troll is cute.

Year End Monsters?

Very festive, no?

Here is my view of New Year’s Eve.  Our plan all along was to not go out to party hearty, but to sit home on our couch.  Well, sometimes things do not go as planned.  Sometimes they go even better.

I unexpectedly got out early from work today, leaving at 10:30 a.m. rather than 3 p.m.  Woohoo!  I went to the grocery store with Steven and to the post office.  What else?  Well, I had put on my new Christmas llama leggings.  I thought it would be nice to go out for a drink.

We ended up at the Waterfront Grille in Herkimer,  sitting at the bar and sipping wine.  It was a lot of fun!

Now I am home again and, to be honest, not inclined to write much else. Are other bloggers waxing eloquent about the year ending and the year ahead?  How excellent for them if they are.  I, personally,  have very little of substance to say.

However, I am having quite a nice time on this last day of 2019. Perhaps I can, leave it at that for today’s post.  Well, maybe a monster picture or two,  just for good measure.

“Was somebody looking for a monster?”

I don’t know that we will be looking at Nosferatu tonight.  But I would like to look at other monster movies tonight.  Then again, New Year’s Eve isn’t the only night that is good for monsters!

“You can find me any time of year in the warmer climes!”

Not Too Adventuresome, But Fun

Look at me, making my Scattered Saturday post before I get too tired and blow it off.  It has not been a particularly noteworthy Saturday, but you’ll have that.  I plan to give a quick overview of my activities thus far, then continue with my enjoyable day.

I went for a short run in 10 degree weather this morning (according to the sign in front of Trinity Lutheran Church).  It was up to 11 when I did my cool-down walk.  The irony was not lost on me.

Once Steven and I had our acts together (relatively speaking; I am not at any time known for being completely together), we ran a few errands.  We made a quick stop at the post office to mail my post cards, then went on to the drug store and super market. No, we are not ready for Christmas; did you think we would be?

At 1:30 I went to the Hot Spot Salon and Spa, where I had an appointment to get a haircut.  Danielle did a wonderful job.  She was a new stylist for me, but I have never had a bad cut there.

After leaving the salon, I picked up Steven, and we went to Valley Wine and Liquor to taste some French wines.  We bought some Beaujolais as well as a couple other bottles.  We are headed to see our friends, Phyllis and Jim tonight. I said we’d bring the wine.  Our friend Kim joined us at Valley and will join us again tonight.  I love getting together with friends!

So not a particularly adventuresome Saturday, but I am liking it.  I hope your Saturday is as fun.

Time for Scattered Saturday

It is time for a Scattered Saturday post.  I feel it is better than waiting till tomorrow and hoping to make two posts (never a sure thing, however early I make the first post).

I ran this morning, making a long enough run to keep myself confident for the Reindeer Run 5K, a mere week away (yikes!). I even had some good in-head narration for a Running Commentary blog post.  However, that was not to be.  I shall instead try for a Scattered Saturday.

Our friend Kim picked up me and my husband Steven shortly after noon.  We went to Herkimer Original Cheese, where we sampled and purchased some yummy stuff.  We went to the Mohawk Reformed Church, where we bought some used books and jewelry.  We stopped at Side Streets for a drink.  We went to the Lutheran Church on Henry Street in Herkimer for a vendor fair, bake sale and basket raffle (Steven won something!).

Our last stop was at Valley Wine and Liquor in Herkimer, where we sampled some wine and also purchased some.  We adjourned to our house for a libation and to make plans for further Mohawk Valley Adventures next week.

I realize I can make better blog posts about these stops.  Perhaps I will at some later date.  For now, I shall return to enjoying my Saturday. Happy Weekend, all.

All Dressed Up for Non-Sequitur Thursday

Oh, the days when I have Mohawk Valley Adventures and then feel too tired to write about them!  It is for just such an emergency that Non-Sequitur Thursday was invented (by me).

I got home from work, showered (I have the sort of job you shower after, I mention for the sake of those who did not know or had forgotten), and put on a cute outfit (although I daresay I flatter myself).  Steven and I had planned on shopping and dining.

We went to Rose Quartz Stand.  I had a gift certificate I had won at a Herkimer County Historical Society fundraiser.  We took a long time walking around and deciding.  I will probably return for even more Christmas shopping (and a little shopping for me).  After making our purchases, we walked down the sidewalk to Jamo’s for dinner.  Yum!

Now we are home relaxing.  I hope to write more about both our stops later.  In the meantime,  here is a brief shout-out to two Herkimer businesses.

The Rose Quartz Stand is located at 105 Mohawk St., Herkimer NY, phone number 315-868-5199.  They are open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday,  11 a.m. to 5 p.m, Saturday, closed Sunday and Friday.

Jamo’s Restaurant and Bar is located at 123 Mohawk St., phone number 315-866-1746.  They are open 4 to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday,  11 a.m. to 9 p.m, Saturday and Sunday.

Great Run on a Gloomy Day

Here is the Running Commentary post I should have made yesterday!   I knew I had to run; I had not run for two days, and the Reindeer Run 5K is a week and a half away.  Additionally, I LIKE to run!  And I like best to run when I am in good shape to do so.  That means running on a regular basis even when I do not feel particularly inclined to do so.

As I left work, however, I did feel inclined to run.  For one reason, it was a grey, gloomy day, whereas yesterday had been bright and sunny.  I love a grey gloomy day.  Steven says I am part Addams (Morticia, not Ansel, of course).  It was not overly cold, either.  The roads and sidewalks were just as much of a mess, but one must deal with these things.

I wore my road-guard vest (that’s a reflective vest, for you civilians), because I knew I would be running in the road where the sidewalks were not plowed, blown or shoveled.  I made sure I was on the left side, facing traffic.  I like to give myself every advantage.  As I started, I remembered the good thing about running on snowy roads and sidewalks:  it takes more effort.  That mean it burns more calories!  Of course I mostly run for entertainment and general health reasons, but a little help towards my weight-loss goals is always welcome.

The run was great.  I was able to spend most of my time on the sidewalk, but I kept mostly to the lesser traveled streets just in case.  I had told myself that 20 minutes would be an acceptable run, then caught a second wind and decided to go for 25.  Then I got confused and ended up running for 26 minutes.

Hmm… this is not the most entertaining blog post I could have written. On the other hand, it isn’t overly long.  I think I’ll chalk it up to Wuss-out Wednesday and drive on.  I hope you are all have a swell mid week!

It’s Not a Crime to Wine Instead of Whine

I did not go running today, so anybody can feel free to judge me, if they are so inclined.  I don’t know if I can manage much more than a Tired Tuesday post.  But maybe I could share a few photos of a previous Mohawk Valley Adventure I did not write about.

I stupidly cannot remember her name!

We often go to wine tastings at Valley Wine and Liquor in Herkimer,  as I believe I have mentioned.  We took a number of pictures at a recent tasting of 19 Crimes wine, one of my all time favorites (what a surprise).  Above is the lovely lady who poured.

19 Crimes wines have a different crime printed on each cork.  Naturally I am trying to collect all nineteen.  Full disclosure: I don’t have any idea how close I am.

An employee of the store also got in on the fun.

We had a fun time tasting the wine and taking pictures. And now I have managed to make a post NOT whining about how I can’t make a decent post today.

No Regrets on Wrist to Forehead Sunday

Even skeletons have their moments of high drama.

After our skeleton Bonita slipped a little, I posed her so she could have a wrist to forehead moment.  Then I realized I must take a picture and use it for my Wrist to Forehead Sunday post.

As I mentioned in what should have been my Saturday post, we had a perfectly marvelous time last night.  I have a dreadful headache today.  Too much Chardonnay?  A continuation of my cold symptoms?  It matters not, I just hope it goes away soon.

I guess I don’t have a whole lot else to say.  Great time last night, headache today, here’s a skeleton.  Sounds like a typical blog post.

Some of the best friends anybody could have.

Here is a picture from last night at the Waterfront Grille in Herkimer with our friends.  I took more pictures, but most of them came out pretty dark.  And, foolishly, I did not have anyone take a picture of me.  There is only one selfie, and I am not good at selfies, especially after a couple of glasses of Chardonnay.

Oh well, I guess I might as well let you see me looking ridiculous.

I strive to go through life with no regrets.  That last glass of wine may have been a mistake, but no matter.  It was a lovely time, followed by a not bad Sunday.  Bring on Monday!  After a good night’s sleep,  of course.

Scattered and Slacker Saturday

A pause in my Saturday gyrations to make a Scattered Saturday post.  I went for a run this morning,  thinking to do a Saturday Running Commentary post.  It was a pretty good run.  I am looking forward to the Reindeer Run 5K in December in Little Falls NY. But I need to do Running Commentary posts sooner after the run.

Later in the morning, Steven and I went to a Craft Fair at the Ilion- Frankfort VFW, sponsored by the Ladies of the Moose, who no longer have a lodge.  We returned later with our friend Kim.  There was also a stop at Stuff the Bus, a drink at the End Zone Pub and Grub and some wine tasting at Valley Wine and Liquor, all in Herkimer.

Well, this is what happens sometimes on a Saturday (oh, OK, other days as well).  I am too tired to make a decent blog post.  I want to get on with the bra off, sweats on, wine drinking, movie watching, couch sitting, knitting or crocheting portion of the evening.  Is that too much to ask?  Perhaps it is.  No matter.  For what it is worth, this is my post for the day.  I hope you will all tune in tomorrow.

A Herkimer Halloween

So there I was, trying to make a Halloween blog post about the RCIL Character Brunch I participated in last Saturday.  Suddenly it was trick or treating time!  I do not trick or treat myself (insert joke of your choice about my turning tricks and/or not being much of a treat myself), but Steven and I love to sit out on the porch and hand out candy.

I brought my Tablet out onto the porch, thinking I could work on my post between kids.  They do tend to come in spurts, or waves as the evening progresses.  I got a sentence or two typed in.  Then I wanted to take pictures document the evening.

I love a grey sky, especially on Halloween.

This is the view from our front porch.  Rain and high winds were in the forecast, but it did not rain heavily, except for a couple of spurts, and the wind was not bad when we were outside.  I shared this picture to Facebook and to Jill Reale’s page.  Local readers know she is the WKTV meteorologist, and she shows viewers’ weather photos.  She shared one I took on dark clouds moving in once.

 

I think this is it.

Steven wanted to hear our Halloween CD, so I brought our portable CD player out on the porch.  Of course I had not thought ahead and gotten batteries, but an extension cord worked just as well, especially since it was the warmest Oct. 31 in recent memory.  I solidified my crazy old lady credentials by dancing to most of the tunes.

We had a good number of trick or treaters. We ran out of candy, but I had some Halloween pencils, and I found some Groucho Marx glasses we had purchased for a long ago murder mystery. When offered a choice, some kids picked the glasses.  I hope they were not disappointed when they got home and looked closely at them.

The only other picture I took was of the skeleton hanging on our porch.  Later in the evening, when the wind started to pick up, he looked like he was dancing to the music.  I thought about trying to get a video of it but figured he would stop or the music would change before I got the Tablet set up properly.

So another Halloween is in the books.  It was fun, although a little wet.  On to November!  Of course, I still have a few Halloween movies to watch…
