TGI Lame Post Friday

Here I am trying to get back to being a daily blogger plugging the Mohawk Valley, but yet I am going to have a Lame Post Friday post today. My excuse?  I have no excuse; there is no excuse for me.  I enjoyed Happy Hour today.  Can you tell?

Lame Post Friday is traditionally the place where I share random observations and half-baked philosophy.  I did observe things today as I walked from my house by the post office (to mail a post card), past the Town Offiices (to drop off my taxes), on to Cliff’s Local Market where I used the ATM and purchased some candy (don’t judge me), then to Valley Wine and Liquor where I tasted some of the wares of Beak and Skiff of Lafayette, NY (preview of coming attractions).  I mostly admired the cloudy sky, but I enjoyed different houses and their various decorations and gardens.

A little bit of color!

This picture is actually from October 2024, but it shows about the percentage of color we are seeing currently.  Still, every bit of color is welcome.  Does that lead into a bit of half-baked philosophy about Enjoy What You Have; Don’t Worry About What You Have Not?  Discuss amongst yourselves.

She seems to feel cheery!

I close with a picture of Witchy, who is not currently on my front porch, but I hope she soon will be. I obviously have no great philosophical points to share.  Yet I hope this will be acceptable on Lame Post Friday.  I hope you are all have a delightful opening to your weekend.

Late Post, Even Later Pictures

Well, the Mohawk Valley wasn’t lame yesterday, but I pretty much was.  I was afraid the Mohawk Valley Garlic and Herb Festival would be too much of a crowd scene, so I stayed close to home.  I did a little yard word and discovered I have another Rose of Sharon growing some distance from the original bush, and it has a few blooms on it!  I meant to take a picture for inclusion here but, alas, forgot.  I could do it now, but the sun isn’t up yet.

The crown scene in 2018.

As for cleaning the house, I made very little progress.  I managed to write my usual Saturday post cards and walked them to the post office.

A regular stop for me.

Yes, the only picture I could find in my Media Library of Herkimer’s post office was in the wintertime, January 2019 to be exact, and it took me long enough to find that.  Anyways, after the post office I kept walking.  For one reason, I had not gone running (will I go running today?  Good question).  For another, I was low on cash, and Cliff’s Local Market (might as well give them a shout-out too; they are locally owned) has an AmeriCU ATM.  From there it was little trouble to cross the street and enjoy another tasting at Valley Wine and Liquor.  They usually have them from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturdays.

Full disclosure: this is not what I tasted yesterday.

This is another photo from a previous event, but at least it is more recent than my previous pictures.  Additionally, it give me a chance to give another shout-out to one of my favorite local businesses, DikinDurt Distillery.

I guess this turned out to be a less lame blog post than I expected (or do I flatter myself?).  And I feel I should appreciate whatever I manage to get done these days.  Will I have any bloggable Mohawk Valley Adventures today?  Hard to say.  It is, after all, Wrist to Forehead Sunday.  But I do hope to make a blog post, and I hope you will stay tuned.

Mid-Slack on Saturday

Yesterday I averred that a bad post was better than no post at all.  I hope that is still the case, because my aim is to make a fast post right now and then get on with my day.  Last night I went to see MacBeth at the Theatre at WoodsHill in Sauquoit.  I did not get home till after 11:30, which is way past my bed time.  More disappointingly, I did not take any pictures, because I could have made a good blog post about it.  I may yet do so, without illustrations.  I used to make blog posts without illustrations all the time.  Now I feel wrong if I do not include a picture.  They do pep up the post.

Fun in the sun!

I add a picture to prove my point.  This is my niece Jenna with my parents at a family gathering a couple of years ago.  I am going to a family gathering later today, which is one reason I am so flustered now.  Will I remember to bring everything?  Will I put on sufficient sunscreen?  The latter concern could have lasting repercussions.  I have had some painful sunburns in my day.

I should put my feet up, yes?

I looked for a picture of me at my leisure, to remind myself to chill out already.  Those sandals have broken, and my current pedicure is overgrown, but I may be able to take a similar picture later.  I hope a glass of wine will be included.  Sadly, my husband, part of whose sweatpantsed leg shows, will not.  Perhaps he will be there in spirit.  In any case, I hope to have a fun day.  At least I have made some semblance of a blog post.

Kafka Was Right!

Oh dear.  I am sitting at my Chromebook feeling entirely empty.  Lucky for me it is Lame Post Friday.  Is it Friday?  I get a little confused at my age.

Is there an answer even yet?

I looked for a picture in my Media Library to pep things up.  Here is a headline from Aug. 1, 2018, when I used to subscribe to the Utica OD (that stands for Observer-Dispatch, not overdose).  I took a picture, because I found it punny.  I like puns.

Sometimes I am piddle puttering.

This is a plaque my sister Cheryl gave me.  Some time later, a friend shared that saying to my Facebook page, saying it made her think of me.  I confess I have been lolly gagging when it comes to making this blog post.  And now that I am making it, I fear it is not such a much.

Bad writing is still writing, right, Mr. Kafka?

And here is a thought about that:  I have often said that any blog post is better than no blog post at all.  I guess that is another one of My Rules For Me, like my rule of Any Writing Counts.  I have been writing letters, post cards, and journal entries lately.  Will I segue over to more worthy endeavors?  Oh, who can say what is a worthy endeavor anyways?  People like to get letters and post cards.

Sez you!

Regular readers know that when I am out walking or running, I love to enter where it says Do Not Enter.  Thus, to the inner critic who says, “Don’t publish this silly post,” I say, “Hah!”

Another Lameheaded Blog Post

The lightheaded crap continues, but I want to make a blog post regardless.  In my favor, today is Lame Post Friday.  I can make a foolish post and it will be OK.  I know, what is my excuse the rest of the days?   My problem is I am trying to write more and having the stupidest time doing it.  So why not spend some time writing about not writing?

Likewise blog posts.

I will also point out that I am writing pre-coffee or -tea.  I am at my sister Diane’s house and am the first one out of bed.  I managed to sleep in till after six, then read a book in bed for a while, so there’s that.  Oh dear, my head is spinning in an uncomfortable fashion.  I tell myself it is nothing to worry about.  It happens and then it stops happening.  All I have to do is wait for it to stop happening.  Oh dear, now I am not writing about not writing; I am writing about my stupid head.

Apparently my brain would die.

Maybe I could just take my head off.  The above picture is from The Brain that Wouldn’t Die, I add, just to explain the caption.  The nice thing is, this nonsense has gotten me over 200 words.  I am going to lie back down until the spinning stops and try for a better blog post later.

Lawnmowers and Lame Hopes

One of the quintessential sounds of summer is the sound of a lawnmower.  Personally I could live without it.  It is too loud for me.  That is my random observation for the morning.  I am sitting at my sister Diane’s house, listening to a neighbor being ambitious (mowing the lawn prior to 9 a.m.?  Isn’t there some rule of etiquette about that?), and trying to make a Lame Post Friday blog post.  Quite frankly, I don’t got much, except for a little bit of a headache.

Could it be a preview of coming attractions?

I throw in a picture to pep things up.  This is from May 2017, a “before” shot of my container garden, which I used to have in those days.  I am hoping to have a container garden this year, but this is not the weekend it will happen.  This weekend is about cleaning the inside of my house.  I hope.

This may also be a coming attraction.

Here is a picture from May 2021 at Diane’s house.  It shows me, Diane, our mother, and our sister Vicki.  I am wearing a tie-dye shirt and pearls again today, but different shirt and pearls (my late, beloved husband Steven and I between us wore out that shirt, and I have many pearls) (although I do not clutch them) (but I digress).

Diane and I will be returning to Herkimer this morning, where she will help me in my quest to get rid of things and clean my house.  I am afraid, however, I may be distracted with taking her to some of my favorite places to go for Mohawk Valley Adventures.  I will rationalize such behavior on the grounds that it will make for better blog posts.

Sometimes Lame Will Do

It is early(ish) Saturday morning and I thought I would attempt a Late Lame Post Friday post.  For one reason, I really got nothin’ except perhaps for some half-baked philosophy and random observations plus a couple of pictures from my Media Library to pep things up.  I confess it cheers me up to make a blog post in the morning.  Something about putting words together makes me happy.  I must do it more often and wonder at myself that I do not.  I know, many people wonder about me (you know who you are).  I feel it is part of my charm, but perhaps I flatter myself.

Both missed, but at least I can talk to one.

Here is one of them there pictures to pep things up.  It is my late, dearly missed husband Steve and my friend Kim, who moved to Colorado, at the Waterfront Grille in Herkimer NY.  I have not been there in a while.  It is a bit of a walk for me, although I surely need the exercise (I will call you Shirley if I decide to).  Today it is raining, so I am unlikely to make the journey.

Since I brought up Steve, I will give a brief grief update (didn’t mean to rhyme) (honest).  I slowly find my way to being alone.  I will never be done missing him.  I will always be sad at times.  However, I try not to dwell on it or feel ill-used.  I guess I don’t have much to say about it.  Oh well, it was to be a brief update.  Back to being Lame.

It will look somewhat different this year.

I add this picture to encourage myself.  I said I would have a container garden this year.  I am struggling to get my house in better shape, and I must soon move outdoors, where there is a LOT to do!  In fact, I should get off the computer and get to work.  Well, maybe one more picture.

I haven’t worn those socks in a while.

This is another picture to encourage me:  the thought of relaxing after a job well done.  My relaxing feet on the front porch or back deck may have been more appropriate after the container garden picture, but this one was handy.  Full disclosure:  I spend a lot of time with my feet up, job well done or not.  I’m old and my feet hurt!  Never mind.  I have managed over 400 words worth of a blog post and that is not bad, however lame the post may be.  Will I have a productive Saturday?  Will I relax after a job well done?  For the answer to these and other burning questions (or do I once again flatter myself?) stay tuned to Mohawk Valley Girl!

Once Again, Technology Eludes Me

Can I manage a Throwback Thursday Post today?  Full Disclosure:  I was at the Herkimer Elks Lodge and had a few glasses of wine.  In my defense, I had to go and answer a few questions about Recipe for Murder Royale, the murder mystery we are presenting there to benefit the Herkimer County Historical Society.  I know, I only could have answered the questions and gone home.  I chose the more fun option.

Oh swell.  I can’t figure out how to get the flier of the murder mystery onto my blog post.  I suppose it is not very surprising  considering my full disclosure.

Here it is!

It is now Friday morning, so I call this a late post and do not despair of making a Lame Post Friday post later today.  I still haven’t figured out how to get a picture from Facebook to my blog on my Chromebook, but I can do it on my phone.  I didn’t think of doing that last night, silly me!

And while I was at it…

I also managed to share the flier from the show at Salisbury Grange, a week earlier.  That makes this NOT a Throwback Thursday post.  Oh dear.  Should I edit the first paragraph or continue in my stream of consciousness way?

This was a fun one!

One throwback, to the original production of Donate to Murder, presented at Herkimer Elks in 2019 (we presented it again a couple years later).  I’m in the feather hat on the left, then Tucker Lester in the Steam Punk goggles, my late dearly missed husband Steve, and Laura Powers.  I would love to work with both Tucker and Laura again, but they are very busy these days, alas!

I see I approach 300 words, which is pretty good for a late post.  I think I”ll bill this as a Non-Sequitur Thursday and drive on.  As always, I thank you for tuning in.

This is Surely a Lame Post

OK, so the blogging has not been going very well post-Prescription: Murder.  I have not been having very many Mohawk Valley Adventures.  I have been getting out to walk and even taken a couple short runs, but nothing worth making a Running Commentary or Pedestrian Post about (as if that ever stops me).  Now I sit, typing into my Chromebook on Lame Post Friday, thinking, surely I can manage at least a Friday Lame Post (and I will call you Shirley if I decide to).

In my case, they have done their job.

I thought I would throw in a picture to pep things up.  Yes, I have been brain dead for some time now, as regular readers may have noticed.  I have been writing letters, which I suppose counts.  By My Rules for Me, Any Writing Counts.  But I have not been, for example, making entries in the TV Journal or even my Running Journal (yes, I have multiple journals and am thinking of adding a few more to fail to write in).  For a week or more I made a daily blog post.  I hope to get back to doing that.

Cheers to Mohawk Valley Adventures!

I scrolled further down my Media Library, looking for a Mohawk Valley Adventure I could aim for.  This is my friend Kim at Rock Valley Brewing Company in Little Falls, NY.  Alas these adventures are always better with a friend, and Kim moved far away.  I wonder what other friends I could find to get into trouble with.

Then again, coffee is always nice.

Another place I haven’t been in a while is Joseph Putrello’s Coffee Barista Bar in Utica.  Will I venture as far as Little Falls or Utica today?  A little uncertainty adds interest to my morning.

In any case, I have at least written to the extent of a Lame Post Friday blog post.  One has to start somewhere.  As always, I thank you for tuning in.
