Kitties, Pizza, Cheese: Is This Non-Sequitur Thursday?

I had a Mohawk Valley Adventure today! I have not had one of those on a weekday after work in a while. You see, I had a donation to bring to H.A.L.O. House in Little Falls, NY for their yard sale. And here’s a real pisser for you: I just went to their Facebook page and found out the sale has been postponed to the first weekend in June! Well, I still made the donation and I can still plug the sale. On with the post!

The trunk of my car.

I had books and VHS tapes to donate. Now that the sale has been postponed, perhaps I can find a few household items to add. I dropped what I had at H.A.L.O. House.

I like kitties, although I am allergic.

Since I was in Little Falls, I went to Canal Place to get some dinner from Mangia Macrina’s Wood-Fired Pizza. Yum!

It’s a decorative oven, I think.

The fellow behind the counter admired my shirt from Original Herkimer Cheese. I wonder if I can find a picture of it in my Media Library.

One of my favorite shirts!

As I left the pizzeria, I noticed some lovely flowers and just had to take a picture.

I want purple tulips and a magnolia tree!

I felt it was a productive afternoon. H.A.L.O.’s yard sale will be June 4 and 5 at 615 Albany Street, Little Falls, NY. Mangia Macrina’s Wood-Fired Pizza is at the Stone Mill, Canal Place, Little Falls, NY. Herkimer Original Cheese is located at 2745 Route 51, Ilion, NY. You can find all three of these on Facebook.

Phew! One adventure, three plugs, I call that OK for a weekday blog post. Happy Thursday, everyone!

Monday Mistake

I was going to have a wonderful Monday blog post. I thought I saw on Facebook that Herkimer’s Downtown Chowdown was happening in Meyers Park. Food trucks and live music, walking distance from my home. Fun!

After work I took a short run, showered and put on real clothes instead of sweats. I was hungry but reminded myself to select something not too fattening from the food trucks. This was going to be great!

Imagine my disappointment to walk down and find the park empty. What had I gotten wrong? As I turned around to walk back home, I noticed some lovely tulips in front of St. Francis Church. So as not to make the trip a total loss, I took a picture.

I need to up my own tulip game.

Then I backed up to get a shot of the statue, too.

I Like him.

As I took that shot, I noticed the pink flowering tree. You can just see one branch here. Naturally I had to take a picture of that.

I need more flowering trees in my life.

After I got home and had a ham sandwich, I looked up the event on Facebook and learned that it is Monday, May 31st. Silly me! But at least I had three pictures for a blog post.

Full disclosure: I am making this post Tuesday morning (I never know what my WordPress timestamp says). I had my reasons for not doing this last night, but they are not very good reasons. These things happen. I feel sure that most of my readers will forgive me.

No Lame Apologies

Last night I made a conscious decision not to make a blog post. I will not iterate my reasons, because that would smack of an apology, and I do not want to make a lie out of my headline. However, I feel bad to entirely miss a day, so here I am, pre-dawn (my usual rising time, even on a weekend), pecking away at my Tablet with the stylus.

I feel very comfy, lounged on the couch. I managed to find a position where my lower back doesn’t hurt. I tell you truth: getting old isn’t for sissies. But never mind my aches and pains, on with the blog post.

Today I have an authentic Mohawk Valley Adventure planned with my friend, Kim. We are going to the H.A.L.O. Indoor Flea Market at the Ilion-Frankfort VFW. There will be basket raffles, a 50/50, and a bake sale. It runs from 10 to 4.

Kim wants to get there right when it starts. That would be nice, because the parking lot at the VFW fills up fast at these events. However, I personally am skeptical of her ability to get moving that early; Kim likes to sleep in on a Saturday. No matter. Whatever time we go, we will have a good time.

Well, I guess this was not a traditional Lame Post Friday Post, since I plugged a local event. But if I change my headline, my first paragraph will make no sense. Oh the tribulations of a silly blogger! I need more coffee.

Ah Yes, Adventures!

How about a Way Back Wednesday Post? The only question is, how way back of a picture can I find? We shall see.

Cheers!

This is my husband Steve at The Miner’s Table at the Herkimer Diamond Mines, I forget how long ago, but a few years anyways. When I wrote about The Miner’s Table for Mohawk Valley Living magazine, they used this picture with the caption, “Steve toasts Cindy, pricker bush slayer.” In the article, I mentioned we were out celebrating, because I had taken out a pricker bush in our yard that had gotten out of hand.

A quick check of Facebook tells me they open for the season April 15. I’ll have to go there again. I may not slay another pricker bush.

I miss that moose!

Here is a sad Way Back. Copper Moose Alehouse in Little Falls has sadly closed. We had some fine dinners and fun times there!

I wish I was there!

To end on a happier note, here is a place I hope to visit again soon: Prospect Falls Winery. In addition to visiting the winery, we have seen these guys at various events in the region. We usually buy a bottle whenever we have the opportunity. It is really good wine!

I like posts like this, when I have been having a lot of days where all I do is work and go home. There is more to life than work! There are Mohawk Valley Adventures!

I Sip Wine and Contemplate Saturday

So it’s Lame Post Friday and here I sit without much to say. I know, when has that ever stopped me? I have been having a pleasant evening, sipping wine and watching true crime television.

Previous occasion with wine.

This photo was not taken tonight; in fact, I am not even drinking white wine. But I thought it was an apt illustration. I do not rule out having a libation in a public place, masked and socially distanced, of course, at some point this weekend.

I have other plans to accomplish first, however. I mean to go running, even if it is cold and blustery. I have a few Mohawk Valley Adventures in mind, some real writing to do, and, of course, a house to clean.

Lots of merchanse to browse.

Just to throw in an example of a potential adventure, here is a picture of Rose Quartz Stand, a gem store on Mohawk Street in Herkimer, NY. I need to support my favorite local businesses, not just the bars and liquor stores!

Another Herkimer destination.

Another spot I could visit is Renewed and Rescued, part of Mohawk Valley Community Market on North Main Street in Herkimer. Full disclosure: Steven and I browsed there last Saturday before going to the End Zone Pub and Grub. I should have mentioned it in the blog post.

Whatever I do, I hope to make a good blog post about it. As always, I hope you’ll stay tuned.

Fun at the Waterfront

I love the Waterfront Grille in Herkimer, NY. My friend Kim and I had a delightful time there last Saturday.

There were no seats at the bar, my favorite place to sit. However, the owner pointed out a tall table near the bar. Perfect! Kim ordered her usual Moscato. I enjoyed a glass of Sauvignon Blanc, which you can’t get just anywhere. We decided to split an order of calimari. Yum!

Sweet wine, sweet girl!

We took pictures of each other for my blog post. Kim had to maneuver a little to get one of me, because I had my back to the window.

I like wine, yes.

A lady who was having lunch with friends offered to take a picture of both of us. How nice!

They should put us in an ad.

We had a fun time, munching, sipping, and chatting. We looked out the window at the bandstand and thought longingly of warm weather. We hope circumstances permit bands to play there this summer. It would also be nice to go on a canal cruise. However, we enjoyed ourselves at the time, and admired the partially frozen canal. Alas, I forgot to walk around the building and take a picture when we left.

The Waterfront Grille is located at 800 Mohawk St., Herkimer, phone number 315-717-0700.

I Loves Me Some Antiques

My friend Kim and I tried to help out the local economy yesterday with a couple of Mohawk Valley Adventures. We do love to get together on a Saturday. Additionally, I needed some post cards.

They had a million of them!

We started at Mohawk Antiques Mall, on Main Street in Mohawk, NY. I have talked about their huge collection of post cards. However, I like to send my post cards to people, and these are better for collectors. We browsed the rest of the antiques.

I love this sort of thing.

I admired some handmade incidental tables. There were also a couple of great retro kitchen tables which I did not get a picture of. We saw a lot of glassware we liked. Kim purchased a set of four cocktail glasses. She promised to use them at a party, to which she will certainly invite me, when such things are possible again.

We looked for Superman.

The other thing that caught our eyes was the old phone booth. I love antique stores, even if I don’t have the money or space to buy everything I would like. This was a fun first stop. I’ll save our other two stops for future posts.

I Don’t Just Wine

I am going to make a Throwback Thursday Post and work on having more Mohawk Valley Valley Adventures tomorrow. Any objections? I thought not.

I wish I was there!

From January 2017, I found this picture of Prospect Falls Winery in Prospect, NY. I love that place! I see by their Facebook page they are open. Not this minute, but tomorrow. There’s an adventure I could get into.

Beer is good, too!

Here is a picture of my husband Steven and me at Woodland Farm Brewery in Utica, NY. That is another site I’d like to visit again.

I think we look nice.

These hot flappers are my friend Kim and I at a Prohibition Party at Gerber 1933 Tavern in Utica. They are temporarily closed, according to their Facebook page. Oh, I hope they re-open soon! I will be there, whether or not I can dress in 1920’s clothes.

And there’s always booze.

I was looking for another picture of 1920’s clothes, but I found this one of the proprietors of DikinDurt Distillery in Herkimer, NY. I believe they are still open at their Smith Road location, as well as being available at some local liquor stores and bars. It is some very fine stuff.

I guess this has been a fairly alcohol-soaked Throwback Thursday Post. But I never drink and drive. In future posts I’ll look to share some sober adventures as well.

In the meantime, I am over 200 words. Happy Thursday, everyone!

I have been sitting here, clicking back and forth from “Add new post,” thinking that I just cannot write another post about not being able to make a proper blog post. Which is silly, because of course I can; I do it all the time. Additionally, it is Monstrous Monday. Why shouldn’t I make another post of monster pictures and random remarks? Yet, I feel I should be making more posts about the Mohawk Valley.

A common complaint.

My lack of Mohawk Valley Adventures is really getting on my nerves. It is largely because of these COVID times. My beloved community theatres are dark. Some of my favorite local businesses are closing their doors, we hope temporarily. Community events are rare or virtual. Why am I going on about this? We all know it.

This was in The Emporium in Herkimer, taken during a past adventure.

The other reason for my lack of adventuring is that I went back to work. My body and brain really got used to sitting home. And, it just this minute occurs to me, I am NOT used to learning a new job. I was over nine years at by last job. No wonder I am so tired!

I’m buried in difficulties!

Or am I just making excuses?

I suppose I am. However, I have gotten up to 200 words, my rather arbitrary goal. I will look about me for more local topics for future posts. As always, I hope you’ll stay tuned.

Here I Am! I Hope!

I think I found a way to get back to Classic Editor.  I start a post, save it, get out of it, find it under “all posts,” and then I can click on “Classic Editor, ” and here I am!  I do not know if this will continue to work, but I will enjoy it for today at least.

My computer woes continue.  My laptop turns on, but I cannot get it out of Airplane mode.  I thought surely I would be able to, since I have done so before. But even after calling myself Shirley, I failed (get it?  Airplane? Surely/Shirley? Well, I thought I was funny).  Additionally, I can no longer get onto WordPress on my phone.  And there was a picture in it I wanted to use. Rats!

Here I am!

I remembered I had shared the picture to Facebook so downloaded it to my Tablet from there. Phew!  I may catch up with technology at last!

This is a selfie taken after my run yesterday.  I know, I finished my challenge of 34 minutes for 34 days and then take a selfie (remember that?).  I did not even take selfies all 34 days.  I don’t like taking selfies.  But I felt like taking one yesterday. For one reason, it had snowed and I hoped some had stayed on my hat.  No such luck, but I snapped the pic anyways.

I thought I might crash and burn after my 34 days, but I have not quite done that.  My runs have been shorter and not every day, but I am still getting out there.  I may even make a Running Commentary Post again soon.

In the meantime,  I see I am over 250 words.  I think I will call this a Tired Tuesday Post and drive on.  Full disclosure: I actually got a lot done today, but it would probably make a dull post.  I’ll try for a good Mohawk Valley Adventure tomorrow.  As always, I hope you’ll stay tuned.
